Earn Income

You give lessons or such (with Lore), or handiwork (Craft) etc. and make a roll and earn money.

__________________

re. Earning Income during Downtime:

Spend 1 Hero Point to reroll a check. You must use the second result. This is a fortune effect (which means you can’t use more than 1 Hero Point on a check).

So you can use your Hero Point to reroll your Earning Income check (but must take 2nd result).

I will thus change to have people rollf or Downtime at the end of the game, since it might be important to keep your Hero Point(s) for the game, and not die... rather than use it first on money that you won't collect if you die!

For those who did so already (rolled your check) you can choose to reroll at the end of the game w. a Hero Point if you have one left and didn't use one already.

For those who used a Hero Point to reroll your Downtime check, I will let you choose to use your Hero Point for something crucial in the game, and, if you do, then simply go with your original Downtime roll, and disregard the reroll.

Hello all!

We shall be starting after the week-end, when the Eighth PbP Game Day is officially declared open!

I have been traveling a lot for work (from country to country) and not super up to speed, but will try to catch up rapidly and see if I have all the info' on you I need etc. (probably no rush and I'll ask for things "missing" as we go).

One question: do all know about the Pathfinder Training your characters went through, that either extends your Downtime by 50%, or lets you start with one (or two) consumables for "free"?

Otherwise, it is time to start preparing to discover what all this escaping a grave face is about!

Hello all!

Game Day VIII starts at 2 am Monday (this coming night) where I am.
Since I have to get up very early Monday, and will be working all day till a bit late, I am going to fire off the opening post a bit early (before retiring for the night, expect it in about 13 hours).
And then probably not be able to answer in detail before the following evening (some 20 hours after that).

I hope all are present and ready, and their characters prepared.

See you soon in game!

It's either a google chrome or windows thing that sometimes shows up when there is an invisible character there, like a space at the end of a line to act as a placeholder. King in Thorns slideshow!

So, with:
• Arandel Grimfoe (PJP) not having showed up any more, and SodiumTelluride who did not end up checking in, we have 4 players:

-level 2 -
Kamil

- level 1s
Devin
Tybalt
Laraman

Since we are at the first encounter, and it is a few days since we started the game, I imagine we will most probably be running this as such (I will close things and keep the group as such once the first encounter is in play, since the Challenge Rating will have been enacted and it would be a different one if another player were here - there would be an adjustment, and these specific encounters have rules for adjustments).

___________________________________________________________________________ ______

I am posting my calculations so you can correct me (or learn how it is done):

Tier 1-4 scenario, w. level 1 being the lowest, and level 2 the second-lowest.
Thus 3 lvl 1's means 3x2 = 6
Plus 1 lvl 2 @3 = 3
So 3+6= 9

8–9 = Low subtier (so we are playing in a "normal" subtier 1-2)

Horizon Hunters

Male half-elf fighter 1 | HP 19/19 Hero 1/3 | AC 18 | Fort +6; Ref +8; Will +4 | Init: +6 | Perc: +6 | Speed 25ft | otherworldly magic, power attack | Active conditions: None.

Well i got no bonuses for deception or stealth so its up to you guys.

King in Thorns slideshow!

You will have to try Stealth to creep across, anyhow - or else Hustle around.

Grand Lodge

I totally misunderstood. I thought we all had to try the same roll. I would have had Tybalt hustle around. His Fort save is much better than his Stealth.

King in Thorns slideshow!

One person and only one can Set Up (harder roll but if success you get a Success and you give a bonus to others).
All the others can either roll the Skill (with possible bonuses for ideas etc.) and possibly get multiple Successes or Hustle (get a Success) and then roll Fort'.
If you fail Fort' you cannot Hustle again.

King in Thorns slideshow!

In general, I will keep things moving along when they do not entail anything special.
But I will stop and let all chip in if there is some decisive choice or action to be made. And, please, do not hesitate to speak up if you want to retcon a little, and add something that you wished to do in the meantime.
So, here, since 2 of the 4 are up for the warehouse, I will go with that, but please say if you wanted something else or whatever.

King in Thorns slideshow!

Okay, some GM things & questions (just to make sure I've got things right, since the rules are new to me).

• Though the Bestiary shows these specific creatures as being Medium, I just realized this scenario has them tagged as Large.
I believe it is a mistake, but I found nothing on the GM forums re. this, and there is no FAQ yet.
But I am still not going with the scenario for this (did the writer want it to be different on purpose?) because it seems logical they are ex-humans who are Medium... hoping this is okay (none of you are Small size, so you can trip Large etc., thus that does not change things)

• a "Reflex DC" is the NPCs bonus +10, right? (can't seem to find it again in the CRB)

• a personal rant/question: why can you only Trip with a hand free? (in reality you probably trip mostly with your leg I'd say)
• question re. weirdness: is there anything about Trip being melee etc., or, if you have a free hand, can you toss a rock with the other hand and trip your enemy at range?
(I know the Trip trait for weapons talks about reach etc., but nothing in Trip itself talks about needing a weapon, or being in melee reach etc.)
What part of the rules am I missing that precludes doing it at range?

Grand Archive

Male Human Teacher 2/Librarian 1

1) Typically you follow the scenario because maybe these are just unique ones that are large. Size doesn't really do much in 2e, so it shouldn't really affect us at this level.

2) Any DC based on skill or stats is just 10+bonus, so a reflex DC is 10+reflex save bonus

3) I'm not sure why you need a hand free to trip, but unarmed attacks are free-hand weapons and this is the entry for unarmed: "An unarmed attack uses your body rather than a manufactured weapon. An unarmed attack isn’t a weapon, though it’s categorized with weapons for weapon groups, and it might have weapon traits. Since it’s part of your body, an unarmed attack can’t be Disarmed. It also doesn’t take up a hand, though a fist or other grasping appendage follows the same rules as a free-hand weapon." Based on that, it sounds like you can definitely kick to trip

4) I think trip is implied to be melee based on the ranged trip trait existing: This weapon can be used to Trip with the Athletics skill at a distance up to the weapon’s first range increment. The skill check takes a –2 circumstance penalty. You can add the weapon’s item bonus to attack rolls as a bonus to the check. As with using a melee weapon to trip, a ranged trip doesn’t deal any damage when used to Trip. This trait usually only appears on a thrown weapon.

King in Thorns slideshow!

1/ Yes, normally I go w. the scenario when things are changed or just mistakes, w. RAW. But, here, this makes no sense at all (in tier 3-4 they bounce back to Medium ; and re. the storyline they are not Large) so, for once I am keeping them Medium as it seems to not change the fight.

2/ Thanks. I just try to re-check all the rules in CRB to make sure (I do not trust Archives of Nethys 100%) and didn't find it again (I'll find it next time!).

3/ I imagine it is for a rule reason. To have Trip need a free hand, and thus Trip-Weapons are like a bonus since you can trip w/o the free hand.
RP-wise I guess you need a free hand to keep your balance when you kick the guy's legs out from under him!

4/ I agree that is clearly implied, mainly because of the specifics in the Traits that have Trip, but I wonder why they did not clearly state this in the basic Trip rules.

King in Thorns slideshow!

Can you guys put the weapon/thing you are attacking w. & the type of damage?Like:
Strike w. Rapier vs Red: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (9) + 3 = 12
or
Rapier vs. Red
&
Damage, Pierce: 1d6 ⇒ 2
or
Pierce: 1d6 ⇒ 2
It makes it easier for me to check if any of the weapon's specials apply & if the damage type is vs. resists/weakness/specials...

King in Thorns slideshow!

re. Grab: The creature is grabbed by whichever body part the monster attacked with, and that body part can’t be used to Strike creatures until the grab is ended.
For me that means you could use an Interact to take your rapier from your one hand and use it with the other-- leaving you two actions.
(it only says the body part cannot be used, not the weapon etc.).
So no that bad... I think.

Kamil's crit':

• the "normal" way is (p, 451 CRB) you roll the damage normally, adding all the normal modifiers, bonuses, and penalties. Then you double or halve the amount as appropriate (rounding down if you halved it).
It also says that The GM might allow you to roll the dice twice and double but I'd rather keep it the same for all and doubling the damage (rather than rolling dice twice).
Though it changes nothing here! Double 10's! )))

• so, you got: 10+3 = 13 damage +10 from Weakness (vs. Slashing) = 23
x2 from Crit = 46
+2 from the Deadly = 48

King in Thorns slideshow!

re. @Tybalt how can you make 3 attack at full bonus ?
I thought you (Tybalt) were putting your full attacks in, w/o the MAP adjustment, since you did not know if the others would happen, or which would be the 2nd? Or you had just forgotten.
So I adjusted and gave you a -5 (1st MAP) for the 2nd blow.
Tell me if I was wrong.

Some Rules Points/Questions re. Non Lehtal For Any Who Are Interested:
A question for you guys re. non-lethal and undead (another old habit!).

In PF2 we have p. 453 of the CRB which only states that non-lethal attacks knock someone out instead of killing them, and the trait (p. 283) states it is used to knock creatures unconscious instead of kill them (nothing about not dealing damage to certain types).
I find nothing in the Undead entry in the Monster Manual, nor the specific entry of these creatures, nor in their immunities etc., about non-lethal not doing damage or being reduced.

Which, to me, means non-lethal works normally vs. these.

Tell me if you know I'm missing something.

On another note: I see nothing that says that non-lethal stabilizes creatures.
Since it says it knocks them out, but since the dying rules say that normally creatures die at reaching 0, vs. player characters, their companions, and other significant characters and creatures don’t automatically die when they reach 0 Hit Points. Instead, they are knocked out and are at risk of death.
Thus it seems to me non-lethal attacks put enemies to 0 and dying, vs. just killing them out right, but you'd still have to stablilize.
Does that seem correct to you guys?

OFC it does not apply here, since when undead and construct creatures reach 0 Hit Points, they are destroyed.
I meant in general, for living enemies.

Grand Lodge

1 person marked this as a favorite.

My mistake. I have forgotten to apply the -5 multiple attack penalty. I'll remember them from now on.

Grand Archive

Male Human Teacher 2/Librarian 1

In this edition, a creature is only immune to nonlethal if it says it is. For example, a stone golem lists nonlethal in its immunities, but undead for some reason do not. While weird to players of 3.pathfinder, it looks like something new we just have to forget our preconceptions about. However, undead are immune to being unconscious, so they just get destroyed by nonlethal damage once they hit 0hp.

As for how nonlethal works: Nonlethal Damage
Source Core Rulebook pg. 453
You can make a nonlethal attack in an effort to knock someone out instead of killing them (see Knocked Out and Dying on page 459). Weapons with the nonlethal trait (including fists) do this automatically

As a player character, when you are reduced to 0 Hit Points, you’re knocked out with the following effects:
You immediately move your initiative position to directly before the creature or effect that reduced you to 0 HP.
You gain the dying 1 condition. If the effect that knocked you out was a critical success from the attacker or the result of your critical failure, you gain the dying 2 condition instead. If you have the wounded condition, increase your dying value by an amount equal to your wounded value. If the damage was dealt by a nonlethal attack or nonlethal effect, you don’t gain the dying condition; you are instead unconscious with 0 Hit Points.

King in Thorns slideshow!

Thanks!
That was my feeling about Undead (I am quite clear in my mind that is a different game - in many aspects at least), just wanted to make sure I didn't miss anything.

And thanks a lot for what I sure DID miss!
That last sentence (don't gain dying condition...).
