Orym Rednose |
Orym grabs a matress and holds it up as a barrier between himself and the crossbowmen.

A volley of quarrels flies at the group. One strikes Orym. 8 points of damage The other hits Althea 4 points of damage
Everyone except Duncan can take their turn
Rodalas you are still scared and are unsure when it will end
Orym Rednose |
Looking at where the mattresses are Orym would have had to move south to pick one up.
After the bolt strikes him Orym rushes the crossbowmen keeping the mattress between himself and them.
Adjutacate it how you want. Orym is going to rush them with the mattress. Trying to push them over or put them under the mattress all around interfere with their firing.
str: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (13) + 4 = 17
Althea Wisk |
Althea gasps in pain as the bolt takes her in the side. Should have cast that Wall of fog
Didn't realize that Althea had descended that far down the steps after becoming aware of the enemy, but no problem.
She turns in rage towards the crossbowmen.
1d20 + 5 ⇒ (5) + 5 = 10 To Hit
1d10 ⇒ 5 Force Damage
"I hope thy made peace with thy maker today for this is thine last day to draw breath".
After the blast she looks for somewhere (Under the stairs?) to take cover.
Rodalas Windrace |
Not wanting to get too close, being scared, the elf will fire an arrow at the crossbowman that the triton attacked.

Orym heads to the wall and picks up the mattress using it as a barrier between him and the crossbowman. Taking a firm grip he turns to face the crossbowman and rushes towards them looking to bowl them over. The firbolg slams into the closest bandit yellow knocking him over.
Meanwhile on the stairs, Tanya summons her arcane armour and draws her dagger. Althea sends a green bolt at her enemy but the magic hits the wall behind them and disperses. Quickly, Althea moves down the stairs looking for some sort of cover behind the staircase.
Trying to steel his mind against the fear that has settled upon him Rodalas looses an arrow striking the man red in his left shoulder.
Duncan calls upon the ire of Procan cursing all but one of the bandits.
The bandit on the ground stands up drawing his cutlass and slashes at Orym but Orym easily blocks the slash with his makeshift mattress tower shield.
Another bolt flies from one of the standing bandits streaking towards Rodalas but it comes nowhere close to the elf. You watch as the wounded bandit red steps back and begins to move something on the shelves behind him immediately you watch as it slides away and a door opens in front of him. Without any delay the man disappears into the passage.
Party is up. Duncan is last
Rodalas Windrace |
Seeing that he has an advantage, the elf will knock an arrow and fire at the yellow bandit
1d20 + 5 ⇒ (19) + 5 = 24 Not sure if he gets a penalty to AC since he is knocked over

1d10 ⇒ 5 Force Damage
Then stomps her feat and looks at her finger trying to figure out whats wrong. If she can take cover she will after the shot.
Duncan Umber |
Raising his shield and wielding his warhammer Duncan moves to engage the bandit against the wall. (Blue)

DM Aumakua |
Rodalas's arrow ends the bandit's life before he can get up. Orym hops over the mattress as he watches the one bandit about to run down the hidden passage. The long elven blade slashes him across his back but the man stays up!
A dagger from Tanya hits the other bandit in his thigh he grunts in pain but is able to avoid Duncan's attack. Althea's blast hits the wall finding no target.
The bandit disappears down the dark passage leaving his companion to fend for himself. The last bandit's eyes flash with fear and he drops his weapon, "Mercy I ask for. Mercy. Please."
Duncan Umber |
Duncan breathed heavily, his heart racing as the battle wound down. He scowled at the bandit "On yer knees boy! We will grant you your Mercy, but first you are going to tell us whom else that friend of yours is going to tell we are here?"
Persuasion: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (6) + 4 = 10
Orym Rednose |
Orym takes stock in his wounds, holding his flank. He then looks about.
perception: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (14) + 5 = 19
Rodalas Windrace |
The elf will also move up and fire an arrow at the fleeing cretin
1d20 + 5 ⇒ (10) + 5 = 15
1d6 + 3 ⇒ (2) + 3 = 5
and if need be will dash up.
DM Aumakua |
"There are half a dozen more! Mercy! You said you would spare me! Let me go I beg of you!" the man cries out to Duncan begging for his life.
Rodalas and Althea rush to the passage hoping to get the injured man but as they look down they see a set of stairs descending down into a passage cut out of natural rock. Lit torches reveal that the passage heading down does show signs that the stone has been worked by someone's hands.
Somewhere below you can hear the echoes of footsteps growing quieter.
Orym Rednose |
Orym moves to the begging man, "Your noise small one bleats a warning as much as it begs. Beware what level of mercy you seek." The hanging threat delivered with a hunter's sensibility is a chilling reminder that there are such a thing as mercy killings.
DM Aumakua |
The man quiets down groveling at your feet. He looks up at you his face shows signs of a rough past an old scar gashed on his forehead. "Mercy. Please."
On the steps, the torches following the stairs down flicker occasionally as a faint breeze blows through the passage. The steps of the injured man growing fainter and fainter.
map updated
Althea Wisk |
Althea starts to follow the running enemy down the stairs, then hesitates at the beginning of the staircase.
"Let us not haste into a hail of deadly projectiles as we did upon descent of the last stairwell". She peers back over her shoulder at the last staircase, and at the wound she received there. "Let us proceed with care, and I can create a wall of fog to conceal us before we make our presence known... What say the"?
Althea begins to move forward stealhily. When she gets to an open exposed area she will create Fog Cloud among the enemy if any.
1d20 + 2 ⇒ (4) + 2 = 6 Stealth

Orym Rednose |
Orym looks at his wounds. "Sound words . . .," He winces as he shifts his weight.
Duncan Umber |
1 person marked this as a favorite. |
Nodding to Orym, Duncan added "My friend here has a point, quit your over dramatic grovelling. We don't have time for prisoners. Procan looks favorably upon you today, leave this house now and never return. If the others are as weak as you, we need not worry ourselves." Duncan grabbed under the arm lifting up and immediately ushering him towards the stairs leading up. "If we seen you again we will not be so merciful." Duncan threatened.
"Now Orym I can heal your wounds, but then my powers will be spent for the day."
Cure Wounds: 1d8 + 4 ⇒ (7) + 4 = 11
"This of course means we should be extra cautious and the other two have gone and running off without us." Duncan rolled his eyes. "Let's see where they have gotten off to before it's too late and we are the one's begging for mercy."
Orym Rednose |
"Thank you. I will not be reckless with your help."
DM Aumakua |
The man backs off slowly crawling away unsure if you will change your mind at the last moment. Ignoring him you head off for the stairs.
Could I get the marching order? I'll need the single file and the order if you were moving in a 2x2 formation.
Duncan Umber |
At half my HP I will take up the rear. Maybe Orym and Rod up front? Then Althea and Tanya in the middle? And that order for both single file and 2x2?
Orym Rednose |
Sounds good.
Duncan Umber |
Still groggy from the centipede poison Duncan flexed his joints. "Alright, Orym why don't you and Rodalas take the lead. I'll follow up behind and make sure nothing tries to surprise us.
Orym Rednose |
"I will lag back. I understand the hunt. I will keep you in sight though." Orym takes a minute to work out any hand signals Rodalas uses. He then follows keeping Rodalas in sight.
Lagging back about 20 feet.
Stealth: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (5) + 2 = 7
Orym moves with relative grace impressive for his size but the age of the building and the whine of the flooring under his feet make his progress slow and louder than anyone would want.
Duncan Umber |
Duncan nods at Rodalas "Yes that's a good idea. Keep your eye out for over sized insects and rodents. Well that and those bandits."
DM Aumakua |
Rodalas descends down the stairs to find that the passage breaks into two directions. The passage heading to the east is lit with flickering torches set on the wall. The passage to the west heads into darkness.
map updated
DM Aumakua |
Rodalas relays the information to all of you. From what the bandit told you of the remaining numbers they will likely be waiting for you. The limited choices available to you leave with heading west or east.
Duncan Umber |
"I do not like the idea of stumbling in the dark myself, however I can light the way for us but then anyone waiting to ambush us will see us coming. Why don't we try the lit path to the east first. Rodalas you can scout ahead again."
Looks like that path to the east also breaks into two paths.
Orym Rednose |
"Lights are kept by people who need them. If we are seeking who might be here lights mark a trail."
Althea Wisk |
"Then Choose thy direction and let's proceed. I say we move east past the lighted tunnel, and hope nothing emerges from the darkness to ambush us".
If the others don't move, then Althea starts in that direction.
1d20 ⇒ 4 Perception
"Wow these flickering lights from the torch confuse thine senses".
