Duncan Umber |

Duncan dismissed himself “Well tomorrow we go to cleanse this house. I shall go pray to Procan that he may give us the strength we need to vanquish these foes. See you all in the morning.” With that Duncan retired to his small room at the inn.

Althea Wisk |

Isn't it still early afternoon? I thought we had decided to scout out the area around the house since it was still fairly early... but that might be my imagination.
Althea takes a sip of the wine and struggles to keep her face from displaying the distaste. She then discreetly slips a small pouch of salt from her cloak, and pours a generous amount into the wine, smiling as the taste improves.
"I will walk about the town a bit myself. Tis a bit to early for me to end my day, however I shall meet you on the morrow for the journey".
Since this is the first time Althea has spent any time in the big city not hiding or meeting discreetly, she'll spend some time exploring the city, especially around the docks. She might even take a swim before turning in for the evening.

DM Aumakua |

Apologies all this was supposed to have been posted a few days back. I'm away on vacation but will update as often as I can.
You return back to The Wicker Goat to rest up before heading off the next morning. Going over the bridge you see that it once seems to affect Rodalas but Orym is quickly at the elf's side and helps him over it.
When you enter he inn you notice that a few more people are in the inn. The majority of them are town guards who's shift has likely ended for the day. The pay you no real attention as you enter the inn other than a cursory glance before returning to their drink and company.
Althea heads off to explore the growing town of Saltmarsh.
Althea give me a CHA check
The next day you all awake ready to head off to the mysterious mansion. It takes only a little over an hour to reach your destination. The road to the house winds through the rocky coastal terrain, often offering a view of the sea below. Low clouds press upon you; occasional patches of sunlight appear out over the water. A stiff wind blows in off the waves, carrying the briny stink of churning salt water.
Nearing the decrepit house you see it sits on the highest ground in the area. Around it, a stone wall has crumbled in many places, exposing the interior grounds. An ornate metal gate lies open at the end of the road, swaying slightly in the wind. Wild flora grows throughout the inner yard, but all the years cannot hide the evidence of a well-tended garden that once sat here. Near the house, the rotted wooden roof of a water well rises out of the tall grass.

DM Aumakua |

Standing before the house you each look at one another about where to proceed next.
Your choices seem to be investigate the garden, the well or look an entrance into the house. You recall that the old drunk said something about an entrance near back of the house close to the well.

Duncan Umber |

“Agreed. Why don’t you check this place out. Don’t get too far ahead n case anything goes wrong. We will still need to be able to hear your cries for help.” Duncan closed his eyes and uttered a short prayer “May Procan spare you his wrath and guide you.”
Casts Guidance catnip.

Rodalas Windrace |

The elf will try to sneak around back to the other door.
1d20 + 7 ⇒ (7) + 7 = 14 sneaky sneaky sneaky

Orym Rednose |

Orym keeps his eyes peeled looking about.

DM Aumakua |

Orym and Duncan watch closely as Rodalas moves to the back door. Rodalas makes it there easily and finds the door to be closed. The wooden door looks weathered and old but it still looks serviceable.
While Rodalas moves to the door, Althea and Tanya look at the well. A cluster of small animal remains in the tall grass can be found around the well as they make their way there.
Looking down the well it is hard to determine how far it goes down but it goes more than 15 feet before it disappears into the darkness.

Duncan Umber |

Once it looks as though there is no danger Duncan moved towards Althea and Tanya around the well. Looking into the darkness Duncan focused on a the furthest visible spot below and muttered and incantation.
Casts Light cantrip - 20ft radius light + 20ft radius dim light.

DM Aumakua |

Duncan summons his light cantrip casting it upon a rock that he sees jutting out inside of the well. The light is enough to illuminate the entire well. You see that the well goes down about 20 feet before ending in a shallow pool of clear water. From atop here you also see something glinting off the light at the bottom of the well.

DM Aumakua |

Giving the door a quick check Rodalas finds no traps and the door to be unlocked.

Rodalas Windrace |

He will attempt to sneak back to the main group
1d20 + 7 ⇒ (7) + 7 = 14 Stealth
The door is unlocked and untrapped he says.

Duncan Umber |

Duncan nodded to Rodalas "Well that will make getting inside easier. What about this well? There appears to be something down there. Are you able to scale these walls?"

Rodalas Windrace |

The elf will attempt to climb down, using rope to keep him safe.
1d20 + 2 ⇒ (15) + 2 = 17 athletics check.

Orym Rednose |

"You small folk are thorough investigators."

Rodalas Windrace |

Well technically, his curiosity has ME investigating further. I do hope that you have missile weapons to cover me the elf says with a bit a sarcasm in his voice.

Duncan Umber |

Landing his hand firmly on Rodalas shoulder Duncan said "I'm sure you will be fine. Now just get in there and see what's down there. May Procan spare you his wrath."
Casts Guidance Cantrip on Rodalas.
You can use that extra d4 on your climb back out in case it's rushed. :)

Duncan provides a simple blessing to Rodalas as the ropes are tied and secured to the elf. Slowly Rodalas begins to descends down the well as the others look on. The inside of the well is damp making it slippery in parts. Rodalas has gone only a couple feet when his eyes catch something darting towards his face.
Slithering at an incredible speed a large dark green snake opens it mouth and prepares to lunge at the surprised elf. As Rodalas shouts out in surprise another snake emerges from underneath some fallen rocks located by the well. Only Orym and Duncan catch its movement in time to react.
For this encounter there is no real map so we'll use theater of mind to play it out. Everyone but Orym and Duncan are surprised for Round 1.
Orym. Your Turn

Orym Rednose |

Orym rushes towards the snake he moves quick for one so large. He strikes hard with his elven styled blade. Then slides his sickle along the other blade toward the snake.

Prolly on your own to scramble out Rodalas but you do still have an extra 1d4 on your next check.

Rodalas Windrace |

Seeing the snake attacking him and knowing he is secured by the rope, the grey elf will unsheathe his dagger and a short sword and attack.

Orym rushes the snake reaching it before it reaches the others sliding the long, thin blade from its sheath he slices the snake across the back drawing a thin line of blood. The other snake retaliates attempting to take down the firbolg but Orym uses the sickle to fend off the large snake.
The snake in the well strikes at Rodalas narrowly missing the elf's face! From up top Duncan tries to pull Rodalas up but his grip slips on the rope.
The sudden drop causes Rodalas to miss with his dagger but he follows up with a stab of his short sword making the snake draw back a little.
Rodalas when you attack with two weapons your second weapon, the dagger going forward, does not apply any bonus from your ability modifier for damage (i.e., in this case no +3 for your Dex since the dagger is a finesse weapon)
Althea, Tanya and Orym You can make your Round 2 action.

Orym Rednose |

Continuing the attack Orym slices about with his blades.
Scimitar: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (19) + 6 = 25
Sickle: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (14) + 6 = 20
Scim Dam: 1d6 + 4 ⇒ (1) + 4 = 5

Orym drives his scimitar down into the snake. He lets go of the scimitar still stuck in the beast and he leans into his sickle strike the palm of his empty hand pushing at the back of the sickle. Arc of his cut tears free from the snake and he grabs the handle of his scimitar again ready for what comes next.

Althea Wisk |

"Ware the land Eels! Some of them carry venom in their bites! Keep thyselves well away from them".
1d20 + 5 ⇒ (7) + 5 = 12 To Hit
1d10 ⇒ 6 Force Damage
She steps to a location not in their immediate reach, and the smell of brackish salt water feels the air as a dark green tentacle of force blasts from her hands towards one of the serpents.

DM Aumakua |

dmg: 1d4 + 4 ⇒ (4) + 4 = 8
poison dmg: 3d6 ⇒ (2, 1, 5) = 8
Orym with sickle and elven blade severs the snake into two pieces! You watch as head and body fall into the high grass with a thud.
Tanya and Althea move to the well where they hear Rodalas engaged with another snake. They rip their magic at the snake but both the mote of fire and the dark green tentacle strike against the hole of the inside of the well where the snake's head is poised to strike at Rodalas again.
Hissing the snake rears back and drives its head forward. Easily Rodalas evades the strike by pushing his feet off the well at the right time just enough to be out of the distance of the snake's mouth as it snaps down.
Duncan. Your Turn.

Duncan Umber |

Not wanting Rodalas to plummet down the well Duncan again tried to pull him up.
Athletics: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (1) + 4 = 5
Butterfingers!

Orym Rednose |

"This . . . um sna . . . land eel no longer swims the grass." He looks about as if he doesn't get the language right. He looks around seeing a second foe and steels himself for more.

Althea Wisk |

Not sure where we are in the initiative order, so I'll make my action, and you can insert as needed.
Althea grunts in frustration as the slithery land eel avoids here tentacle of force. She sends another blasting at the remaining creature.
1d20 + 5 ⇒ (19) + 5 = 24 EB
1d10 ⇒ 3 Eldritch battering.

Tanya (HP 8/8)
2. Snake in well (-7 HP)
Snake outside well (-18 HP)
3. Duncan (HP 10/10)
*******************************************************************
Duncan digs his boots into the ground trying to haul up Rodalas but the ground gives way causing sand and rocks to fly about and the rope to slip through his hands.
Instantly Rodalas feels the rope go completely slack!
Rodalas you can make a Dex check (DC 12) to drop a weapon of your choice to grab at the wall OR you can forego grabbing and slice the snake before being falling down into the water below.
Hearing Duncan shout out, Althea and Tanya turn to watch as the rope holding Rodalas gets yanked down the well.
We'll wait to see what Rodalas decides on

Rodalas Windrace |

DEX Save 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (7) + 5 = 12 to grab the wall
Feeling the rope begin to slip and a slight descent, the elf uses his gracefulness to grab ahold of the wall before he falls, barely able to grab onto it but dropping his shortsword.
He curses under his breath in elven.

Orym Rednose |

Can I reach the snake in the well?

DM Aumakua |

@Rodalas definitely you could have went after the blade. You can also make an attack at disadvantage if you so choose Rodalas.
@Orym doing so would require a weapon with reach or range
Althea sees Rodalas' hand quickly catch a protruding stone preventing him from falling. Seeing the elf secure himself she lets an eldritch blast at the snake strikimg it on its underside.
