Hello everyone!
Welcome to the scenario. Feel free to say hello and decide what characters you'll be playing. So you're all aware and fully warned, this will be my first attempt at PbP GMing. Things might start out a little bit wonky as I get the button pressing order down, so thank you for your patience as we work through that together.
I'm running a face-to-face table of 1-37 in about 30 hours, so I'll hold off on doing the major prep work for this PbP table of 1-36 until probably 54 to 60 hours from now. I've already played this scenario as a player, so I have that advantage for cutting down prep time.
My goal is to start no later than the evening of 13 June in the US, and hopefully before then. Once we get started I'll plan on making a minimum of a post per day and hope you can do the same. If something comes up please let me know; for this scenario I'm not going to be botting or playing for potentially inactive players (largely because I'll have enough to figure out without that) but if needed you can ask one of your fellow PCs to do that if needed.
I'm really looking forward to trying this out with all of you. Thank you, and welcome!

Player name/Forum Alias : zer0darkfire
Character name: Gogglez (and Hole Puncher v2)
Character level: 2
SFS Character #: 193338-701
Day Job:Profession (Mechanic), take 10: 10 + 14 = 24
Slotted Boons:
Faction: Dataphiles
Hours of traversing Vabaimus’s uneven ground has given you valuable experience when maneuvering a vehicle in dangerous conditions. While operating a vehicle (but not a starship), you increase its EAC, KAC, and hardness by 1. When a vehicle you are operating would be wrecked, you can cross this boon off your Chronicle sheet and attempt a Piloting check; the vehicle is instead reduced to 1 Hit Point and remains operable for a number of rounds equal half the result of your Piloting check unless it is reduced to 0 Hit Points first.
Having met the amalgam of intelligence known as Guidance, you have successfully completed your induction into the Starfinder Society. The Society offered you a sub-dermal implant as part of your commencement. You receive this augmentation for free.
This implant rests underneath the skin of the palm of one hand...The augmentation can be activated or deactivated mentally as a swift action. Activating the implant causes a rendition of the Starfinder Society's symbol to glow underneath the skin. This augmentation acts as a mark, letting others know you are a member of the Starfinder Society. It also increased the light level within 5 feet by one step while active.
During your commencement missions, you had the chance to pick up your own copy of the latest album from sugar-pop sensation Strawberry Machine Cake. This album is already a pact worlds hit and has quadrupled in price...You can decide to keep the album, which might somehow prove useful in the future.
Venture-captain Arvin presented you with a commemorative insignia in gratitude for your services to the starfinder society. Although it appears to be an ordinary medal showing the symbol of the Starfinder Society, this insignia can store as much information as a common tier-1 datapad. Unless told about this secret, a non-starfinder must succeed at a DC 20 Perception or Sense Motive check to realize the insignia is a storage device. This insignia is worth 0 credits and cannot be sold.
Benefit: If you complete a scenario that you played online, such
as by using a virtual tabletop or a play-by-post format, you earn 1
additional Fame and 1 additional Reputation with the Dataphiles
faction (regardless of whether you have the Dataphiles Champion
Faction boon slotted for that scenario).
Special: You can benefit from this boon only a number of times
equal to your current Reputation Tier with the Dataphiles faction
(maximum four total times at Reputation Tier 4). Each time you
fulfill the requirements of this boon, mark it on your Chronicle
sheet along with the associated Reputation Tier. Have the GM sign
beside this notation

Hello and thanks for running this!
I'm sure you'll be fine in PbP (you have time to think a lot more before doing anything, vs. tabeltop) and just ask anything you have doubts about. Someone will have some idea.
Hello folks, I hope to be a good companion and that we have fun.
I will be playing Bones, a front-liner (Healer Mystic w. Heavy Armor & Adv. Weapons w. full Weapon Spec. etc.).
You can check his character sheet out if anyone wants to, for choosing what to play.

Bones is the one that got DM Credit for the game you just exited and that I DMed.

Farol |

Hey All,
I am also looking forward to this game. I have two PC's that I can bring here
Croaker - Ysoki Mystic level 1, range rifle and some face skills. He is known by Googlez and Bones(to some extent)
Vecro - Kasatha Solarian level 1, melee and some face skills. He is known by Revvy
I am leaning towards the Solarian but if you have strong opinions feel free to share them.
Overall I see that we have some 'high' level PC's. If you prefer to make it high tier run I can give my spot to someone with higher level PC

Oh, Croaker!
Don’t drop out re. Tiers.
I am fine doing it in « higher » or « lower » with Bones.
And feel that if in lower tier he would not steal all from
others who are level 1
But if the GM wishes I can change
(just thought cool to bring a Dwarf on this one)

Farol |

I wanted just to propose it, I had one experience with mixed tiers (like 3 level 1 and 3 level 3+) and I had a feeling that it can be awkward. But it could depend (2 fights ended in the 1st round by critical hits).
Either way, I will go with the Solarian

I'd like to have played my Operative, but it looks like his game won't finish any time soon.
Since there's already 2 Technomachers I won't be bringing mine
And with Farol playing a Solarion I'd rather not bring another one
So that leaves
*Drummroll*
Savoy - My lvl 3 Envoy+lvl 1 Mystic, who will do his best to try to keep everyone in one piece and motivated

![]() |

Good news everyone! With our current group of characters: you get to choose whether we'll be playing subtier 1-2 or subtier 3-4.
Right now with the characters chosen, by my math, our average party level is 2.5 (Goggelz: 2, Bones: 3, Z Data Z: 4, Rin Jabo: 1, Vecro: 1, Savoy: 4; 1+1+2+3+4+4 = 15, 15/6 = 2.5).
Per the Starfinder Society Roleplaying Guild Guide (v. 1.1) page 12, "Determining Average Party Level", "If the result of the Average Party Level calculation ends in 0.5, the players should decide whether to round up or down."
So it's up to all of you, the players, whether you want to round down to 2 and play the low subtier or round up to 3 and play the high subtier.
Please vote or use another method to come to a consensus!

![]() |

More gold credits!
I’d vote for playing up.
But no problem going lower if Ron Jabo and Vecro prefer...
Their opinion is the most important.

![]() |

I vote for playing down and getting less credits. I don't want level 1s getting their butts kicked. Plus if we play up at 2.5, we too will get our butts kicked, unless grab the best stuff.

Data buys Frag grenade II for backup and prays to Jesus that all goes well. He answers all prayers, hopefully he answers right.

![]() |

"Pray to Pharasma. Seems that one you are praying to is still on lost Golarion..."

![]() |

"I prefer to be protected by shields and a red-lined engine. But hey, I'll take the faith of companions too."

![]() |

Okay everyone, I’m just about ready to get going. I’ve posted the pre-introduction post in gameplay, and after we all get settled in we can commence with the VC briefing.
For the purposes of this scenario, please let me know if the character you are playing has played SFS #1-12: Ashes of Discovery and has the Contractor’s Respect boon for Ulrikka Clanholdings. If your character has that boon, it is strongly encouraged you slot it as your social boon.

![]() |

"Pray to Pharasma. Seems that one you are praying to is still on lost Golarion..."
I should have put a period after buys frag grenade and said DoubleGold Prays to Jesus, Data will pray to whatever deities exist in the Starfinder world.
Nope, don't have 1-12 on this character.
![]() |

No 1-12 either.

![]() |

No 1-12 :( But if it is important then Croaker (my second PC) completed that quest. So if you will tell me that PC that finished 1-12 will be carried around and worshiped as a reincarnation of one of the gods, I might reconsider whom I am taking on that quest ;)
Kidding of course. I am taking Vecro and he has neither of those.

![]() |

Everyone,
Rin's player reached out to me to let me know he was dropping out due to other obligations. Rin leaving doesn't affect the scenario's subtier (it actually puts us even more firmly in "up").
While we have started, we're just entering the first room and could conceivably bring a new 6th player on. I don't have anybody in mind and think you'll all do fine with five, but wanted to survey the group since we're just getting into the first room.
Post thoughts here!

![]() |

Bones doesn't think much... and when he does, he keeps it to himself!
Seriously, I am fine going on as we are, but no problem at all if someone steps in to replace.

![]() |

That might not have come out like I intended - I didn't mean it ironically.
Don't worry, reading a text make it hard for me to interpret the emotions. Yet if I would give that advice I would fill it with irony until it poped.
Young, inexperienced Solarian have an opportunity to start an ancient artifact of unknown purpose ;) What could possibly go wrong.

![]() |

re. Barricade, remember that it has been hit a few times by electric explosions, and once it or a creature adjacent to it is hit by an attack, the barricade collapses at the beginning of your turn in 1d4 rounds (unless the barricade is destroyed completely by the attack).

![]() |

I didn't even consider that AOE attacks could damage the barricade, I was just thinking of intentional attacks to it.
Don't forget we were given a healing serum at the beginning of the mission. I've got the grenades, but they aren't too useful in this situation.

![]() |

No idea if they damage the Barricade or not, up to the DM, I just meant to say there are things to keep in mind as possible, mainly for later situations etc..

![]() |

@Bones with regards to attunement and stuff.
Yeah I decided to change my attunement to graviton attunement and you can do that by going through unattuned. I can use +1 to reflex saves a bit more now than +1 to damage. I was thinking that the 3rd enemy was the last one, but I am less sure now.

![]() |

Okay, sorry for butting in! My bad. I thought maybe you believed that if you did not use your 3rd round it reset. Sorry.
+1 Reflex is nice!

![]() |

Hey, no worries and keep the bits of advice coming. I screw things up regularly so assuming that there is a sense in what I do is a bit of a stretch.
In this fight +1 to reflex would be awesome, yet switching from photon to graviton is a pain in the butt (mostly due to having to go through unattuned).

![]() |

Grenades are well explained in the CRB.
You target a grid intersection.
And must hit AC 5 (counting range increments and cover).
If you are not proficient etc. that reduces the DC of the save by your negatives to hit.

![]() |

I was looking at grenades on the archives of nethys. My actual book is pretty dusty at this point. Mechanics are proficient though so that's fine.

![]() |

If you plan to use Grenades, do take the time to read the rules. And checking your CRB is way better than AoN which is a great site, but does not have all the rule info' etc..
You rolled:
grenade attack roll: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (4) + 2 = 6
But thrown weapons and Grenades use STR, so you have +1 BAB and -1 STR, so you have +0, not +2 (which was BAB + DEX).
Thus you roll 4 + 0 = 4 and you miss, even without counting cover (which probably gets you to a nice attack roll of -4).
And now that you totally missed AC5:
If you miss on a ranged attack with a thrown weapon, the weapon lands in a random square or grid intersection as appropriate near your target.
To determine where it lands, roll 1d8. This determines the initial misdirection of the throw, with 1 falling short (off-target in a straight line toward the thrower), and 2 through 8 rotating around the target creature or grid intersection in a clockwise direction, as illustrated in the diagram above. After you’ve determined the misdirection of the throw, roll 1d4.
The result is how many squares away in that direction the weapon lands.
With a bit of (un)luck you'll drop it at your feet and blast us all.

![]() |

You use STR to hit with thrown weapons in Starfinder? So everyone has a belt of mighty hurling essentially? I'll have to look into making a throwing weapon PC then.

![]() |

Jump is Athletics, and the DC is the number of feet you want to jump horizontally, or 4 x that vertically, if you have a 10 ft. running start.
So, as a GM, I rule to pass a 10 ft. chasm you need to jump 11 ft. etc. (but could be just 10?).
(since you jump as part of a Move Action, and you can not jump more that what is left as part of you amount of movement, well, if Bones takes a 10 ft. running start, he can only jump 10 ft. max - it seems you cannot "double move jump", thus 20 ft. max' jump w. 10 ft. start & 30 ft of move).
So, yes, jumping up 20 ft. is dc 80... then divided by gravity.
re. Fire Extinguishers: it takes 2 rounds to put out a fire (so, normally I guess Bones would have gotten another 1d6 of "burn" on the 2nd round) and they carry 20 rounds of foam or whatever, so we can put out another 9 blazes!
