So will be setting up the game over the next day/so.

I will be copying hardcopies of the map so sometimes they may be blurred/squashed. As I use an editable google doc you should be able to amend this should you want to do so.

Thanks for having me!

Thank you for the selection. I have always wanted to play this one. I'll do one last look over my character tomorrow.

Appreciate the selection... will take the time you are getting set up on your end to get my gear sorted out.. should be the last thing I am missing (though if you notice anything I missed let me know).

Ok maps, treasure list, notes page and proclamations links all set up. They are all editable. Will start first post later tonight.

One final thing, we all know RL can get in the way of gaming. If for any reason you can't post for a few days just drop a note here and we will bot you.

I made a suggestion of an edit for the proclamations. Feel free to disregard it if I am off, it just reads better with that change to me.

Should be fully equipped. A gold and a few silver left over, which he would probably use for food as needed.

You will note that the spells aren't that useful for an adventurer... that is because he wasn't trying to be one. I picked spells that he would have picked up trying to assist his music career prior to the recent unpleasantness.

Background skills for him are italicized.

Finally, this is a close approximation to what he looks like (all credit to the artist): Pellius portrait

Looks like we will not be hurting for divine talent. Baolo Halden dotting in as I finish up the final adjustments. I look forward to gaming with you all.

The edit seems reasonable.

One thing I don't like about PBP is that, regardless of pictures, descriptions, etc my mental image of your character (and often my own) is going to be the icon you post under.

Pellius, I think our characters likely know each other, both having the opera house in our background. Fellow members of the chorus waiting for our break out role?

Does anyone have any thoughts about other possible preexisting connections among all our characters? Adonara's new in town, but she's a sneaky one and ambitious, so she could already have been trying to get her fingers in an awful lot of pies.

As a courtesan, Adonara might easily have been spotted in either swankier or livelier neighbourhoods. She probably hasn't moved much in quite the same circles as the opera folks, but they might have a nodding acquaintance from having seen her on some noble's arm after a show or at a party, for example.

Basically, if anyone decides that they'd at least recognize her face from about town, I'll be guided by you, but otherwise I won't assume for the first couple of posts.

Hence me trying to keep the two somewhat similar, ;)

On relationship I would say that is likely. You would know that Pellius is a member of House Aulamaxa but that he 1) isn't anywhere near "in line" to inherit barring a major disaster, 2) his family supports his pursuit of "the arts" as they can, but that doesn't extend much beyond giving him food to eat and a place to sleep.

Being somewhat of a diva (hehe, get it... because my class archetype... oh whatever) he has his quirks about performing with others... but for some reason he had taken a liking to you. After talking with you in private it turned out you had a lot in common (worship of Shelyn, being lesser sons of the nobility, passion for the arts, etc.) so he had agreed to practice with you for roles in the upcoming opera production at the opera house... before everything got shut down.

Thoughts or additions?

Anyone who has spent any time in the slummier parts of Kintargo might be familiar with the Plentiful Tankard. Baolo works as both brewer and bouncer there. Rowdiest tavern one will probably find in the city and only those closest to the Halden's may know the true story behind the lone silver tankard that graces the highest point of the wall behind the bar.

@Pellius - sounds good to me. Obviously, we BOTH consider OURSELF the better singer (ironically, our sing skills are currently identical although yours will doubtless get a little better than mine over time)

@GM - How acceptable is it to walk around armed and armored ?

I've finished updating Kira's profile. Mostly this consisted of fixing a few math errors (oops), but I also added a ten-minute background to flesh her out a little more. Most notably I added that her father Aethilwald was secretly a member of the Sacred Order of Archivists, which (according to the Player's Guide), was recently disbanded and its hideout seized. Kira doesn't know if any of that is true, but her father has gone missing. If that, or anything else I added, would be a problem I can change it.

As for knowing people, Kira's spent almost all of her time at the Academy so I doubt she'd know anyone. At most she's caught a glimpse of Pellius and/or Lodoro at the opera.

Ooh, thanks for saying that Kira... that reminded me of something I need to ask the GM.

Obviously my Famous class feature applies to Kintargo, but it is described as being a community of about 1k people (well short of the total city population... which makes sense, he hadn't gotten his big break yet). Is there a certain sub-region/district you would say people familiar with him are from, or is it just random folks withing Kintargo at large? Granted I am not planning on bluffing/intimidating random folks to be random, but it might be helpful to have a sense of where that invisible boundary on the added buff is to start.

As a street urchin, Rutilus basically lives in the slummier part of the city. Its possible he may have been found in or around the Tankard, possibly lifting some things from some inebriated customers. He may recognize you as an employee. Maybe they have an arrangement?

Not the GM, obviously, but just brainstorming from the cheap seats (ladies and elves, to say nothing of ladies who are elves, do not spitball :) ), would the easiest thing be to pick a suitable (part of a) district of Kintargo? Like, say, the upper east side of the Greens, or whatever tickles your fancy?

I am sure that they would have worked something out. There are likely more than a few less than savory people that visit the Plentiful Tankard. And indeed, anyone who over indulges in the available drink or doesn't behave themselves would be fair game for sticky fingers. Baolo's only ask would be that Rutilus keep his attention on such types and avoid the honest and hard-working regulars that frequent the joint.

I probably should have made this clearer in my post, but there's about a 13% chance Kira goes down from the AOO before getting the chance to cast. I deliberately centered the mist to cover an exit while interfering as little as possible with the other PCs, but there may still be some minor retconning needed if Kira does go down. (Hopefully Desna is on her side!)

A couple of quick questions for our gallant GM, and maybe anyone else who’s rule-savvy. No rush, but just so I don’t pin my hopes on a character build that won’t work, and to avoid the tonal whiplash of roleplaying my character one way and then having to walk it back.

1) Is the d20PFSRD right that the “spire defender” and “puppetmaster” magus archetypes stack?

2) Idly considering the possibilities for much further ahead once we’ve got a bit of gold to burn, are the rules for organizations from Inner Sea Magic on the table? I noticed they include the Kintargo Opera House, which might be of interest to Pellius, Lodoro, and – a bit differently – Adonara, at least. Some of the rewards seem a bit high-powered, but for something like Esoteric Training, Adonara would be putting the main boost towards something other than her warpriest caster levels.

Ta.

@Adonara

1) As far as I can tell they do stack.

2) Possibly - I would say hold off on this for the time being, there are certain story based organisational features in this AP.

I could be wrong, but I don't think they stack. The Puppetmaster ability "The Show Must Go On" replaces medium and heavy armor while the Spire Defender "Bonus Feats" ability replaces all armor proficiency

Yeah I always hated that... one thing slightly modifies one class feature that gets replaced by something else, and both net the same relative affect, but because of technicalities they no longer can stack. So being strict rules-laywer-esq, no they don't.

That being said, like most rules, the DM can handwave it as being legal within his game (even though you wouldn't just be able to take the character and plop her into another game without a similar concession from that table's GM). Given he had said he didn't see a problem with it (pending further review of course) you should be able to stack them here with his buy off.

My two cents.

Sorry Adonara- after reading the comments further I'm afraid they don't stack.

Quick note about Kira's curse. RAW it only applies in combat. However the flavor text specifies "in times of stress or unease." Kira's not in combat, but she's certainly still stressed! It seems like more of a curse if it can apply outside of combat situations as well.

However if the group/DM would prefer I dial it back to only applying in combat situations, that's not a problem. Just wanted to explain my reasoning for why she's still speaking in Infernal right now.

I have no problem with you RPing the curse out-of-combat, it just means that Baolo will need an interpreter to follow anything you say. At least until he can spare the skill point needed to pick up Infernal. :P

I'm fine with it as well. Half of us speak infernal so translating shouldn't be an issue

So does she understand anything other than Infernal during these times? Pel knows the language, so he can translate both ways, but useful to know if he has to.

Female Gnome Oracle 3 | HP 24/24 | AC: 18 (T: 14, FF: 15)| Saves (+3 vs illusions, +2 vs fear/despair, +4 vs charm/compulsion): F:+3, R:+3, W:+3 | BAB: +2, CMB: +3, CMD: +12, | Init: +2 | Low-Light vision | Perc. +9, SM +6 | Spells: (1st) 2/6

Currently no. When stressed she can only speak/understand Infernal. At 5th level she’ll add an additional in-combat language, at 10th she’ll be able to understand any language even during combat but will still be unable to speak them.

Once we’re in a position to chat Kira will awkwardly explain in-character. Not that she knows why this is happening, but she has figured out the trigger for her language problems.

@Kira - I like the switch to infernal when stressed, that's very good roleplaying.

Incidentally, everyone, since you're also going to be suffering from Adonara's poor life choices, I'd welcome your input (though I may ultimately disregard it :) ). I'm thinking of splashing around quite a bit with her character, since I usually play fiddly types (especially wizards). Anyway, the upshot is a level each of magus and swashbuckler are in her near future: any thoughts as to which should come first? I'll probably decide tomorrow.

Depends on what you value more. Magus gives you some nifty arcane spells to play with, without even the normal detriment of not wearing armor (unless you go kensai or some other armor sacrificing archetype). I am a big fan, especially of the black blade variant, so perhaps I am biased.

Swashbuckler gives you more... options... dealing with melee combat. Given Pellius seems particularly inept at it, and his HP pool is rather weak, that might be a better option for right now.

Your call though.

Mainly warpriest, by way of evangelist once I qualify, with one last dip in shadowdancer, spending most of my feats to build up to Whirlwind Attack, just because combining that with hiding in plain sight and a reach weapon tickles my unhealthy imagination.

The build is ludicrously non-optimal, but the idea is to force me outside of my caster-centric comfort zone and to think a bit more tactically. I know, only a weirdo would think a warpriest is a not-very-caster-y option, but then ... guilty as charged. :)

The magus and swashbuckler levels are just for a bit of fiddliness to keep my restlessness in check: I thought briefly about the Amateur Swashbuckler feat, but it seemed a bit bland, comparatively, and from past experience with one-level caster dips, adding first-level spells to my spellbook goes a long way to keeping me out of trouble.

I would probably skip swashbuckler and just take the feat. Since we are using the feat tax rules, all finesse weapons automatically have weapon finesse so all swashbuckler is giving you is panache and deeds. Unless I'm reading it wrong, Amatuer Swashbuckling gives you the Panache as a swashbuckler but restricts you to one deed. Assuming you never gain another swashbuckler level you only have an option of 3 different deeds. If later you decided you wanted more deeds, I believe there is a feat for that.

So with that said, I would go Magus first and then at level 3 you can decide if you would rather go Swashbuckler or Amature Swashbuckler
