The post is finally up. So sorry. I was worse than I thought but I am now recovering. Still no in-person gaming for though.
As to the conversation in the gameplay thread. I do not disagree.
I also don't understand why Starfinders are not always equipped with basic scanners to detect environmental hazards, life forms, etc.
I suppose they have to leave some easy ways for authors to offer challenges.

Ignore that. I had planned a different move, then realized I could get next to green, and forgot to delete that sentence.

Sorry for the delay, the past couple of days were exhausting travel and I couldn't get to posting. I'm home now and my posting should be much more regular until GenCon. Thanks for the bot and for bearing with me.

You found a commando enhancement serum, two nyfiber nets, two tactical pikes, and two shock grenades II.
Yeah, I should have made you identify the serum and forgot to do so.
How do you wish to distribute them?
CRB p225
Serum of Enhancement
This vial of performance-enhancing serum unlocks or enhances aspects of your body and mind. Imbibing this serum grants a living creature bonuses based upon the type of serum imbibed, as described below. The effects of a serum of enhancement last 1 hour.
Commando
The creature gains a +2 insight bonus to Acrobatics and Athletics checks, and it gains temporary Hit Points equal to half its level. If lost, these temporary Hit Points cannot be restored, and they do not stack with any other source of temporary Hit Points.
CRB p 179/189
Nyfiber Net
One-handed special weapon L2 Price-460 damage-0 range-10ft critical-0 capacity-drawn bulk-1
Created from specialized nylon fibers that contract in response to struggle, nyfiber nets are weighted along the edges to more effectively entangle their targets
CRB p172
Pike, tactical two-handed advanced melee weapon L2 price-475 damage-1d8 P bulk-2 Analog, reach
CRB p178
shock grenade II L4 price-650 range-20ft capacity-drawn bulk-L Explode (1d12 E, 15ft)

That net has always confused me. How does it not have special properties? No entangle or trip or anything. No mechanic that makes it useful.

True Silver - how are you managing 2d6 of damage from a tactical pistol?
He crit

Priest gets a -5 to the difficulty of all religion checks, regardless of who you worship IIRC. Priests are religious scholars who have studied all the religions

You are a member of an organized religion or similar association. Your belief, whether it has been a part of you since childhood or it came to you later in life, is an integral part of your character. You might travel the stars proselytizing your deity, or your church might have sent you out on a specific holy (or unholy) mission. No matter what obstacles life puts in your way, you always have the conviction of your beliefs to fall back on.
THEME KNOWLEDGE (1ST]
Choose a deity or a philosophy whose alignment is within one step (on either the good-evil axis or the law-chaos axis) of your own. Reduce the DC of Culture and Mysticism checks to recall knowledge about religious traditions, religious symbols, and famous religious leaders by 5. Mysticism becomes a class skill for you, though if it’s a class skill from the class you take at 1st level, you instead gain a +1 bonus to Mysticism checks. In addition, you gain an ability adjustment of +1 to Wisdom at character creation.
Bold emphasis mine
My reading is that you do need to select a diety or specific philosophy. I am also happy to give you the reduced DC for this check. So open the spoiler. I really did go looking to see what your specific priest theme was as well as looking for everyone's listed deities in case they were relevant. I only found one listed diety in the group and it did not apply in this instance.

Reduce the DC of Culture and Mysticism checks to recall knowledge about religious traditions, religious symbols, and famous religious leaders by 5.
The way I’ve always interpreted the theme is that this applies to all religions (after all, it doesn’t say your religious traditions. This is in line with other theme knowledges (all starships, all spells cast, all Military tradings, all corporations, etc.). The god you follow just limits your alignment. Then again, you are the GM, your call.

I read that section the same way which is why I said to go ahead with the reduced DC.
If anyone was actually a follower of Triune then they would have automatically recognised the references. That is why I went looking at everyone's character sheets.
Priest thems still requires a choice even if it doesn't particularly affect this case.

I think we should assume we have shared only the things we have said in-character. He might be perplexed by the accusatory tone of some of the responses.

I think that wording likely is intended to define it in terms of the combat action economy, rather than restrict it to something you cannot do outside of combat (although, obviously, it provides no benefit until you enter combat). Drawing a weapon, for example, is a move action during combat, but you can obviously draw a weapon prior to entering combat, even though (so far as I know) the rules do not explicitly mention it, but only define the parameters of drawing a weapon within combat.

Good point Flenn.
I look for it in the morning Korvin. I sympathise regarding the insanity.
Shelldrake and Rahdokama, I hope you can both post soon too. I am counting this conversation/diplomacy as a group activity.
We are rapidly approaching Gen Con. I am still madly prepping and will depart Monday (having a day with friends before helping to set up on Wednesday). We have one more encounter after this one. I will try to stay current but we may end up pausing until after the con, especially if others will be out of commission during that time.

Was going to ask if there was any chance we were going to finish up before Wednesday. No problem, I'll just leave Flenn out of the rotation. ;) Give the new Skittermander a shot at some table action, then.

GM Numbat |

I was really hoping to be done before Gen Con. It is still possible, just not probably unless we are all posting more frequently. I do apologise as much of the delay came from my quarter.
Edit: Looking much more hopeful now. Those diplomacy rolls were looking like this could be a combat encounter. Now it is peacefully resolved and just waiting for a little RP and Therseis interaction.
The next encounter is a skills check and is ready to post.
I will start preparing the chronicle sheets today or tomorrow.

GM Numbat |

Xenoarchaelogy will help you figure out how the game was played. At the moment you are trying to retrieve items not play the game.
I am, in this circumstance, happy to take everyone's rolls, apply any assists to the highest in the group, or if you want, the two highest.
Shelldrake - The issue is the ever-changing gravity effects. Sounds like you can withstand changes better than most but not directly affect anything. I am willing to grant a +1 bonus to acknowledge you could hang in there better than most to make a difference.

GM Numbat |

I am sorry you felt left behind, Rahodakama.
I am still working on pacing in PbP. There were times I thought I was slowing the group and times I was waiting for everyone to have posted. Much of the time I debated waiting but sufficient action had taken place to move the group on and I had originally said I was aiming for a fast game so I wanted to honour that. I was also feeling the pressure of Gen Con approaching and did not want to tie up characters through the con nor leave the story in limbo if it could be avoided.

No no, it's quite alright. This was a very fast posting group, who role played really well. I couldnt keep up for real life reason. At least I followed along and kept up in reading. Thanks for not getting frustrated with me.

GM Numbat |

As I am completing chronicle sheets, please provide your Day Job rolls
Rudura and Rahdokama, I noted yours in the early part of the discussion thread.
Also, if any of you made purchases, wish to make purchases, or have anything else you would like noted on your chronicle sheet, now is the time to inform me.

![]() |

Day Job: 1d20 + 14 ⇒ (3) + 14 = 17
Gah ... I need to just start taking 10 on those.

![]() |

No Day Job for Sunshine, may use the Downtime for crafting if I purchase a level 3 or lower item.
Seems like we're wrapping up, but just a heads up I'll be at GenCon tomorrow through Monday, so bot me if needed.
Thanks for running, Numbat! You did a great job!

Anybody going to be at Good Games tomorrow for the pre-GenCon sessions?
