I might have to change up my character here. It's going to be difficult to play a Paladin... even a lawful Neutral one with so much chaotic behavior happening around him. I mean one of my companions just murdered someone!!!

Up to you....some juicy roleplay opportunities with such differing alignments.

As to the morals of taking out the sentry....that's for you guys to sort out :)

I'm OKay with role-playing the differing alignments... it's just different in PbP because things happen in a vacuum. Mitchell would have tried to stop Talliree from murdering the goblin, but in PbP things happen then there are consequences.

Talliree - If you're okay with some anger and inter-party conflict going forward I am as well. It's not personal just Role playing :-). But I don't want to cause any less enjoyment for others in the game.

I'll give Mitchell until this evening to post...

Sorry about missing my turn. Thanks for the botting. Weekends are often busy for me and I tend to keep further from the threads.

Tania has informed me that he's going to have to give up on some games...including this one.

I'll bot Tania in any remaining combats for this part of the adventure, then she'll wander off into the city...

Darn. Who's gonna be Talli's moral compass now? ;)

Sorry to see you go Tania. Well wishes and good luck to you.

If we are looking to add a new character I might know someone who would likely be interested.

I wouldn't mind a new player joining. Do they have something in mind?

That said, I hope they are ready for the ball of kookiness that Talliree is fast turning into. I'm not even sure if she's putting on an act or is 100% serious about her interactions with Mr. Whiskers.

Rules question: the friends cantrip specifies that it works on someone who is not hostile to me. Does it mean just that it doesn't work in combat and it could be applied here? Or does it extend to a hostile disposition?

HP: 16/16. AC: 16(13). 1st Level Spells 0/3

I haven't poked them too hard on it... I'm sure they'll adjust to the situation, as best as anyone can.

Hob Teabadger wrote:

Sure, let them know about the vacancy..

Ellena Garvaneel wrote:

Yeah, he's hostile...plus I'd say anyone you're in combat with are hostile towards you as well...though I guess it could get situational if someone was fighting you, but reluctantly...

Male

Hello folks! Said friend of Hob here.

I have lots of ideas and I'm happy to be flexible on what role(s) my character will cover in the party. Currently mulling over rogue, dexy fighter, and cleric of thievery. Are there any bases that you especially need covered (e.g. handling thief's tools)?

Hi Decimus, welcome!

Our departing player was the party rogue so...looks like your ideas would be of benefit.

Male

Cool. :) Also, hello Lolly! This character will be a little different to Talathel. :)

I'll roll scores and think over them. Any changes or clarifications to character creation from the original recruitment post?

4d6 ⇒ (6, 3, 1, 1) = 11 10
4d6 ⇒ (1, 5, 4, 3) = 13 12
4d6 ⇒ (1, 3, 1, 4) = 9 8
4d6 ⇒ (4, 5, 6, 1) = 16 8
4d6 ⇒ (2, 2, 2, 4) = 10 8
4d6 ⇒ (2, 2, 3, 3) = 10 8

Oh. Any chance of a reroll on those?

Hey there, Tal......doubly welcome!

Yeah, retoll...

Male

Cheers!

4d6 ⇒ (2, 3, 2, 5) = 12 10
4d6 ⇒ (3, 1, 5, 5) = 14 13
4d6 ⇒ (1, 4, 4, 3) = 12 11
4d6 ⇒ (3, 5, 2, 4) = 14 12
4d6 ⇒ (6, 5, 6, 5) = 22 17
4d6 ⇒ (1, 5, 3, 4) = 13 12

That looks healthier!

I'm thinking a half-elf cleric of trickery, following Mask. He's been long disowned by his family and is seeking to make his fortune, (nearly) whatever it takes! Chaotic Neutral work?

Yeah that's fine....I trust you not not play it disruptively.

HP: 16/16. AC: 16(13). 1st Level Spells 0/3

Just don't let Sir Mitchel Cloudkeep find out about your misdeeds... past, present or future!

Male

Grand job. I'll get a write up done tonight or tomorrow. :)

Female Half-Elf Barbarian HP: 25/25 | AC: 16 | Saves: STR* +5 DEX +3 CON* +5 INT +1 WIS +1 CHA +3 | Perception: +3, Investigate: +1, Insight: +1 | Rage: 2/2 Status:

Oh this should be fun. Talli's CG (if only just because of her, ah, tendency to resort to direct action.) I wonder how this will play out.

Decimus...looking back at the original discussions on party history and such.

Like the others you get one uncommon magic item.

The original conceit was that the party had been together for about a year. I'm thinking that your character was part of the party for some time , say about three months. That way they all know you, so when you're sitting at a table in the yawning portal, when, or if, they return , there won't be any ' why the hell is he/she coming with us' to worry about.

Sound all right to everyone?

Female Half-Elf Barbarian HP: 25/25 | AC: 16 | Saves: STR* +5 DEX +3 CON* +5 INT +1 WIS +1 CHA +3 | Perception: +3, Investigate: +1, Insight: +1 | Rage: 2/2 Status:

Sure. Just need to know what he's like. That'll give me an idea of how Talliree feels about him.

HP: 16/16. AC: 16(13). 1st Level Spells 0/3

I had an idea that perhaps more than one person has been kidnapped... depending on how big this place is.

I present Himo Liadon, half-elf cleric of Mask. I'm fine with either Yawning Portal or found trussed up. :)

Personality Traits
I am incredibly slow to trust. Those who seem the fairest often have the most to hide.
The first thing I do in a new place is note the locations of everything valuable-or where such things could be hidden.

Ideal
People: I’m loyal to my friends, not to any ideals, and everyone else can take a trip down the Styx for all I care. (Neutral)

Flaw
When I see something valuable, I can’t think about anything but how to steal it.

Bond:
My ill-gotten gains go to support my family.

Criminal Speciality:
Burglar

Backstory:
1) Where were they born?
Himo was born in the Trade Ward of Waterdeep.

2) Who are their parents?
Himo's father was Laucian Liadon. Laucian was an elven scholar and adventurer who only intended to visit Waterdeep briefly. Laucian did not expect to fall in love, especially not with a human. Himo's mother, Tessele Dundragon, was a merchant's daughter. The bookish Laucian and the joyous Tessele made an unusual pair, but her parents were willing to accept the relationship so long as Laucian did not treat her poorly. In order to allay their fears, Laucian took the step of marrying Tessele even without a decades-long courtship. Laucian began to trade his scholarly services to patrons in Waterdeep while Tessele assisted him with winning over custom. When the pair found that Tessele was expecting, their joy seemed complete.

2a) Are they still alive? Are there any other guardians/close family members?
Unfortunately, an old -and unknown- enemy of Laucian's found the relationship most useful. One night, it came for the elf in his home in the Trades Ward. Events moved too quickly for Tessele to do much more than overhear the last words of both the enemy and her husband:

Enemy, in archaic dialect of common wrote:
"...now you pay the price for wandering where you should not!"
Laucian, with laboured breathing, in common wrote:
"NO. I am finished but so too are you, creature of darkness!"

Before Tessele could force the jammed door open, a blast of radiance from within cracked it! When the dazed Tessele entered, she saw her husband lying dead, his body pierced in a dozen places, and a vaguely humanoid shadow burned into the wall, as if an afterimage of someone - or something.

She did never did find out what her husband's enemy was, or exactly why it had sought out her husband with murderous intent. She found life increasingly difficult, as the strange events drew unwanted attention and whispers in the Ward. She eventually giving birth to a son. Naming him Himo after his never-seen elven grandfather, Tessele raised the boy as best she could. Bekron and Jasrun Dundragon did their best to assist their daughter, remaining moderately prosperous. Tessele eventually remarried, an Illuskan trader named Stor Helder. Three human half-siblings followed, namely Amafrey, Jasrun, and Frath.

3) What were they doing before now?
Himo slowly grew to adulthood, and had opportunities in Waterdeep that a half-elf elsewhere may not have had. He nontheless felt cheated and hurt that his father had been taken away from him before he was even born, that his mother had been denied the life that she had chosen. This frustration led Himo to find a way to "even the score". He drifted between circles, eventually finding himself seeking out the secrecy and freedom of a sort offered by Mask. Himo's quick wits and determination saw him push past being a thrillseeking son of a trader, into being an acolyte.

3a) Why leave it all?
Himo thought that staying in a rut would doom his efforts and plans. So he struck out, seeking danger and coin to match.

3b) What did they leave behind?
Himo's family remains in their lives in the Trade Ward. Himo does visit.

4) What does your character want?

Himo wants to "even the score". He is fiercely loyal to his loved ones but believes that the best thing he can do for them is to work on their behalf away from them, at least most of the time. Through shared dangers, he has accepted the party as near-family in his level of loyalty and will back them up.

The luckstone was inherited from Himo's father. Giving it up is not an option by his reckoning.

So, does Himo seem good to go, or do I need to tweak anything?

sorry, busy busy...looks good..I'll get a post up soon

I've updated the permissions on the battle map to allow anyone with the link to be able to edit. Let me know if anyone has issues.
