The Midnight Mirror

Will: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (14) + 9 = 23
The dragon certainly doesn't look undead, but it recoils slightly as Bemmer calls Torag's power against it.

Hannar pulls out the wand and hits Kalkamedes with a ray to weaken him briefly.

Claw #1 vs Ironshanks: 1d20 + 13 ⇒ (13) + 13 = 26 damage: 1d8 + 3 ⇒ (2) + 3 = 5
Claw #2 vs Ironshanks: 1d20 + 13 ⇒ (3) + 13 = 16
Ironshanks, your AC says "27(25)" -- which is it?

Bite vs Bemmer: 1d20 + 13 ⇒ (18) + 13 = 31 damage: 2d6 + 7 ⇒ (2, 4) + 7 = 13
Tail vs Wraith: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (10) + 8 = 18

The dragon claws at Ironshanks, scratching dangerously close to his neck, while scoring a vicious bite on Bemmer. The cleric falls, bleeding from the wound.
By my count Bemmer is at 32 damage on 30 hp, so he's unconscious and needs to roll to stabilize. Ironshanks is either at 9 or 14 damage depending on whether that claw hit.

Kalkamedes, weakened but not slowed, marches into the cavern, trailing his rope behind him. He goes around the central pillar, and appears to be planning to walk right past the fight with the dragon.

Anvilbrow is down! Will we all be dying in a cave; fighting a dragon for a man who can't even wake up to help him self? With desperate fury, Wraith attacks again, wondering if it will be for the last time.

Hannar tries to secure the grapple...

What kind of check?

The Midnight Mirror

Ironshanks: Got it. Evil: check. No hit.

With renewed ferocity due to Bemmer's going down, Wraith and Ironshanks deliver another series of blows, and take down the dragon.

Combat over!

As Hannar grabs the rope and attempts to bring Kalkamedes to a halt, it becomes clear that he is heading toward the unconscious elf in the second magic circle.

Once the dragon hits the stone floor Ironshanks rushes over to Bemmer "Don't be dead, yer too young!" He digs out a healing potion and tries to revive the man.

Did we find any healing potions in our journey? If so I'll use that, otherwise I have a cure light potion I can use.

CLW Potion: 1d8 + 1 ⇒ (2) + 1 = 3

"Getta hold of 'im Hannar, we don't know if she's just like that gnome... CRAZY!" He hollers as he trickles the liquid into Bemmer's mouth.

The Midnight Mirror

Ironshanks quickly pulls out a potion and carefully pours it into Bemmer. The cleric's eyes open as the healing magic does its work. He was at -2, so the 3 healing brings him back to 1hp.

He says a prayer to Torag and goes again.

The Midnight Mirror

Wraith and Hannar hold Kalkamedes back while Bemmer channels Torag's energy to heal everyone.

"Welcome back Bemmer!" Ironshanks claps a hand on his favorite cleric of Torag to whom he's not related. "Alright, now let's get to the bottom of this! Someone keep an eye on that treacherous GNOME!" He takes a hold of Kalkamedes' rope and slowly heads towards the Elven woman.

"Hey there lass, you awake?" He looks for a response from her and/or his lead.

Bemmer will follow Ironshanks. Without getting too close he will try to ascertain what the elf's physical state is.

Heal: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (18) + 3 = 21

The Midnight Mirror

From a distance all Bemmer can tell is that she's unconscious. However, something about her seems to be off, possibly meriting a closer examination.

Bemmer moves closer to the elf to take a better look.

The Midnight Mirror

She is clearly hurt, as you can see wounds and bruises on her skin. As you get closer, you see that her eyes are extremely pale, the exact opposite of what you would expect from an elf.

She is lying unconscious in a magic circle nearly identical to the one holding the gnome.

Her picture is on the slide show, in case anyone didn't notice.

Grand Lodge

Ironshanks lets Kalkamedes get close to the woman but does his best to keep him out of the circle "How do we know she isn't gonna sick a dragon down on our heads too? One dragon a day is plenty fer this Dwarf I tell ya."

He chuckles but then slowly adds "But I guess if we were to take down TWO dragons in one night then that's a story that grows legs quick fellas!" That'd put cousin Chuck in his place.. I think I've heard his hill giant story fifty times!

The Midnight Mirror

Kalkamedes continues to pull directly toward the woman.
Make me a STR check, he really wants to go inside the circle.

"Hey now man, you know what yer doin'?" He digs in his ironclad boots and drags Kalkamedes to a halt just outside the circle.

"Whatcha guys thinkin' here? Let him in and deal with things if they go south or what?" He glances over his shoulder towards the gnome in the circle.

Perception: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (17) + 10 = 27

The Midnight Mirror

From this close to the elf, you can't see the gnome - you are down a long side tunnel (see the map). However ...

You hear the voice of the gnome calling out, "You thought that dragon was a problem? You wake that woman up without me to help you and you will really be sorry! Come let me out, and I'll protect you."

Despite his insistent tugging, Kalkamedes isn't able to overcome Ironshanks' hold.

You don't see any mundane traps or dangers in the area, and the elf herself is badly wounded and doesn't seem to pose any risk. What the magic circle does is another question entirely...

Hannar goes to the magic circle and tries to figure out it's meaning/purpose....

Knowledge(Arcana): 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (8) + 7 = 15
Spellcraft: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (16) + 7 = 23

The Midnight Mirror

Hannar examines the circle. The runes and sigils aren't familiar to him, but just from his general knowledge of how spells work, it appears to be a containment circle of some kind, probably attuned to keep specific sorts of creatures inside. Crossing in should have no immediate effect, but getting out could be problematic.

Grand Lodge

I get the impression that the elf is a better ally than the gnome. Bemmer moves to enter the circle and take a closer look at the elf.

Heal: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (3) + 3 = 6

Bemmer has no idea about this elf.

I am going to cast Lesser Resto in the next round

The Midnight Mirror

We're not in rounds at the moment. If you want to cast Lesser Resto, tell me which ability score you are intending to heal. Also, even without good roll on that heal check, you can see that she is suffering from fairly extensive wounds and bruises.

Extensive wounds and bruises? Ok, lets heal her first then.

Bemmer pulls his wand out and begins to heal the elf.

The Midnight Mirror

After a few more uses of his wand, Bemmer succeeds in rousing the elf. She blinks, and looks around. Her eyes glow briefly as she looks at each of you in turn. Then she asks, "Tell me, is the demon still contained?"

Ironshanks looks around at the others and shrugs "If yer talkin' 'bout my great aunt Moira then I sure hope so. Other than that yer gonna need ta get the cobwebs outta yer head n explain." He takes a look at Kalkamedes to see if he's had any changes.

The Midnight Mirror

"No, I mean the glabrezu in the other circle! Are you saying he's gone??!!"

The elf is in a near panic, and stands up, trying to exit her circle. However, the magic of the circle appears to have her trapped.

"I'm sayin' my Auntie is the devil, at least accordin' to Uncle Cecil. Can't say I know her so well." He strokes his beard and gives the frantic Elf a look.

"If yer talkin' 'bout that ornery Gnome fella, well he should still be there, right near his dead dragon friend."

The Midnight Mirror

She looks at Ironshanks and says, "If the circle is occupied by a gnome, it can walk out at any time. If whatever is there is trapped, then be assured it is from another plane than your own."

She closes her eyes and concentrates, and her form begins to change. She becomes a column of bright light, then resumes a humanoid form, but this time of a tall yellow-haired woman clad in golden armor.

DC 18 Knowledge (religion) or (planes):
This appears to be a ghaele azata, a creature from the good-aligned planes that hunts undead, demons, devils, and evil dragons.

"I came here because I felt the demon's power. He was bound here by the Thrallkeepers, who are long since gone from this world, but his trap is weakening. I came to destroy him, but his undead dragon caught me by surprise. I crawled into this circle so that its holy power would keep the undead out, but then I was as trapped as Koth'Vaul. I used most of my power to send a telepathic call out, which I assume is how you came to be here. If you can free me, we can banish the demon. Do you have anything with which you can simply smash and destroy the circle?"

From the other chamber, you hear the gnome call out, "Don't trust her! She's trying to trick you! If you release her, she will destroy you as well as me!"

Ironshanks looks at the woman with an uneducated eye for such otherworldly things "You don't say Hannar. Are ye sure? Is there a way we can test if they be lyin'?" He tugs on Kalkamede's lead again, trying to keep him out.

"Anyone have some holy water? They say it burns evil creatures from away just like it does to the walking dead..." He floats the idea past the others, still a bit torn on the 'he said, she said' dilemma they've found themselves in.

Seems like Kalk at least has an eye for the pretty lady.

I am not evil. I am aligned with The Father of Creation, Torag. You seem to be aligned with good also. How may I assist you?

She nods at Bemmer. "Your people's gods are a bit too devoted to custom and tradition at times, but they serve the good and we are allies. Ironshanks chuckles as Bemmer tries smashing the circle with his warhammer "Hey now kid, if ye believe this Elven tart that's fine, I trust ya. But if ye wanna carve stone ya gotta have the right tool fer the job." He hands him his adamantine waraxe for his warhammer.

The Midnight Mirror

Hannar inspects the pool, and finds nothing of interest in the murky water.

Ironshanks gives Bemmer his adamantine axe, and even though the axe is ill-suited to busting up stone, the sheer hardness of the material allows him to eventually break it enough for the azata to escape.

She takes a deep breath and closes her eyes. After a short time, she frowns. "My power is weakened by the time I spent in that cage. I'm not sure I can focus my will sufficiently."

She looks at Bemmer, and places a hand on his shoulder. "Priest of Torag, I can see that you are a man of faith and deep power. Would you permit me to transfer some of my magic into you, so that you can use your power to banish the demon back to its home?"
