"I can't do anything here! Bennett you speak wisely, let's take that note and move on!"
Miseria Extasis |
Miseria grabs the note and looks it over.
Linguistics: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (15) + 4 = 19
"There is a body here. Two bodies to be exact. We should summon the guard and get this on the record."
Ivan D'Ifrit |
"Agreed. This is just the sort of evidence against the Spider that we need to find."
GM Ietsuna |
Miseria looks over the docuemnts comparing Senlokto’s signature on the deed with the signature on the renovation details. She finds that these latest signatures are forged.
Miseria Extasis |
"Looks like they offed the real gnome and forged these papers."
Ivan D'Ifrit |
"More evidence to submit to the authorities!"
GM Ietsuna |
The night is getting on. The speech is in 1 day so you have the option of returning to your lodgings or just wandering the city. I suspect the casters may want to get some rest and regain their spells. You must confront Ouidda at 9am the day after tomorrow as she prepares to give her speech.
Bennett Florence |
Bennett is content to go back and rest for the evening. Perhaps spend the day tomorrow searching for some last clues and protecting the evidence we have.
Ivan D'Ifrit |
I'm afraid I've lost track of the various clues and leads we've collected. Are there any places/people we've heard about and not yet investigated that we could go deal with before confronting Ouidda?
Miseria Extasis |
"At this point we may have to worry about ourselves. One of her associates is dead and her latest batch of slaves has gone missing. It's probably not going to be a stretch for her to guess the Society is behind it and eventually to determine we are the agents responsible. I suspect she will send someone to try to silence us between now and when she makes her speech."
Bennett Florence |
Then we should find a defensible position away from bystanders.
GM Ietsuna |
You had three places to investigate. The ship, the Swiftsail where there were the slaves. The Investment place with the cowardly slave-mule. The theater where the actors are acting strange and there was a dead gnome and something impersonating a gnome. You have been to everyone of them. You got through them quicker because you didn't have to track down one of the clues and went there from the boat. To interupt the speech and present your case you will be making Diplomacy checks, with bonuses for pieces of evidence that you present. I will make the diplomacy checks since the scenario says they should be made in secret. We'll move to that soon.
Ivan D'Ifrit |
Ok thanks for the clarification - very helpful.
GM Ietsuna |
So we are heading back to lodgings for the night?
Ivan D'Ifrit |
That works for Ivan
Miseria Extasis |
"You," she says sharply to one of the actors, "summon the guard. This pile of flesh is not Senlokto, it is his murderer."
GM Ietsuna |
The group traipses through the dark streets back to their lodgings. You bed down for the night. The inn-keeper grumbles as he opens the door for you, making comments about being roused in the middle of the night by inconsiderate tavern-hoppers.
You have a full day the following day to do what you like with. I can leave you space to RP if you like, or we can fast forward the day. Just let me know what you want to do.
Bennett Florence |
I'm fine to fast forward.
GM Ietsuna |
The day passes uneventfully. You spend the day completing minor tasks around town. Consumables and ammunition are restocked and a delightful light lunch is enjoyed. The sun sets and you head out to a local tavern for dinner.

No other creatures accost you on your way to the inn. The night passes without further incident. You awake on the morning of the speech, break your fasts and dress before heading to the council chambers.
At 5 minutes to nine you enter the audience gallery and take seats. The council files in and after small pleasantries Ouidda gathers her notes and makes her way to the lectern o begin her speech.
Now is your time.
Ok so here you present your case and evidence. I will make diplomacy checks with your bonus plus various circumstance bonuses from bits and pieces throughout the scenario. Over to you all

1 person marked this as a favorite. |
"Esteemed Councilors, before today's proceedings begin it is our duty to appear before you with a most grave accusation. We are prepared this morning to prove right here and now that one of your own, Dorianna Ouidda, is none other than The Spider, leader of Almas cell of the Shadow Lodge, a rival organization to the Pathfinder Society, and perhaps of more dire consequence, a notorious slaver as well."
"Two days ago, we raided the Sailswift, after convincing the sailors to let us inspect the vessel we found a group of captives in the hold of the ship. They were ensorcelled to believe they were actors on their way to a performance, yet I ask you, what actors would be chained is such quarters? You can ask any of them that have agreed to appear as witnesses today. Their enchantments have all expired and they can tell you that it was all a false memory implanted in their heads."
"But by whom were these slaves sent to Almas? Well, see here for yourself, a note we had discovered while aboard the Sailswift, in the captain's quarters, signed with the stylized depiction of a spider, the mark of the one known as THE Spider. Who in this very note admits that they have a speech to give to the 'blasted bureaucrats'. Now who is it that is scheduled to give a speech today? That's right, Dorianna Ouidda."
"After that we followed another lead, to Jarovar Investments, where after some interrogation, the proprietor admitted to an association with both Ruovarn Krillis, the captain of the Sailswift and Senlokto Boraminder, the proprietor of the Captive Audience. He would make deliveries from the Captive Audience to the Sailswift."
"Following that lead we decided to pay a visit to Senlokto Boraminder who upon our questioning him, attacked us without provocation. We defended ourselves, of course, and when Senlokto had been slain he was revealed to be not a gnome but a creature with rubbery gray skin that had only appeared to be a gnome just a few minutes before. So as we were summoning the guard we took our liberty to search Senlokto Boraminder's office. Where we found another note signed by The Spider, who we have already established is none other than Dorianna Ouidda. This note is addressed to a man named Yaro, who we can only assume is the gray skinned creature we'd just been accosted by. As you can see it clearly states that the 'actors' that were being brought in were being sold. Upon further investigation we found a trap door in that office, and stuffed inside that trap door was the body of the real Senlokto Boraminder and some more incriminating documents. We discovered both a deed to the Captive Audience signed by Senlokto Boraminder as well as some work orders for very recent renovations. Now if you carefully look over these documents you will notice a slight discrepancy in the signatures. Those work orders are forged. They were NOT signed by the real Senlokto Boraminder, but the one who took his place, all in an effort to establish a base of operations for slave trading right under your very noses!"
"There is no doubt based on the evidence we've presented here that. Dorianna Ouidda is The Spider, Dorianna Ouidda has been smuggling slaves with both the help of Ruovarn Krillis of the Sailswift and Yaro, a/k/a Senlokto Boraminder of the Captive audience. This is the same Dorianna Ouidda who means to besmirch the reputation of the Pathfinder Society. Not only should her words not be trusted, but she should be made to answer for her many crimes committed in Almas! Thank you."
Diplomacy is base +11 but only +7 if the target audience is good or chaotic.
If this works I may have to take a rank in Profession (barrister) when I have the opportunity.

Bennett uses his magical garments to look presentable, at least. He's not one for all the pomp and circumstance of court or stages. He follows the crew in to hear the speech. he wasn't sure what would happen or how he would participate but is relieved when Miseria stands up and relays the litany of evidence we have.
Abhorrent business, this kidnapping and trafficking of slaves. Shameful.

Tthe chamber bursts into chaos, and the president of ceremonies bangs his gavel, demanding order. Bailiffs move in to take Ouidda into custody while the Council investigates. The authorities have Ouidda escorted out of the courtroom by two guards. The legislature thanks the you for your service to the city. Shortly afterward the meeting is adjourned and you shuffle out of the room only to see a crowd gathered in a hallway. You very quickly see that the two guards who were escorting Ouidda now lie on the floor dead and there are bloody footprints leading away towards the section of the building containing private offices and quarters.
A bailiff approaches you. Guards, go out and make sure she is not escaping and you they turn to your group please pursue her and bring he for trial.

Double doors lead into this large, opulently decorated room, a holdover from the palace’s former use as home to Andoran’s now defunct aristocracy. Intricately woven rugs cover the hardwood floor, and plushly upholstered furniture graces two distinct sections of the room. Bookshelves line the walls of the eastern half, while a small wetbar and decorative tables fill the western portion.
