Here is a place where you can discuss out-of-character matters, such as boon selection, player decisions, out-of-character jokes, anticipated schedule changes, rules questions, etc.
GM Valen |
I am on US East Coast time and most of my posts come between 10 am and 4 pm. However, my work schedule can vary considerably and I have a number of family obligations as well, so my schedule is not always consistent. Nevertheless, I try my best to post at least once per day.
I expect my posting will be limited between April 19-23 due to the holiday and the kids being off school. I will also be heading on an extended trip on May 22nd, although I expect we will be wrapped up by then (or very close to it).

Hello!
I live in Paris, France, so posting in Western Euro' time.
I'll be traveling next week, and then working for some time in Lithuania, but should be able to post mornings and evenings w/o problems.
End of May I'm in Poland for a while, but should not be any problems for posting early and late in day,

@Bisig Hi!
I think you made a mistake w. your SP/HP calculations?
Is it not, @lvl 1:
• HP is adding up race (2 for Ysoki) + class (7 for soldier) = 9
(then you only add your class HP each time you level up)
• SP is adding up class (7 for soldier) + CON (2 for your 14) = 9
(then you add your class & CON SP each time you level up)
For a total of 9 SP 9 HP
(unless you took Toughness as a Feat? Then +1 SP already)
(sorry if I'm wrong or missed something)

Nope you're correct. I'll fix that. Thanks for catching that.

For those wishing to know such things, we are most certainly playing this scenario in low tier with the four-player adjustment.
Boon Selection:
As the two faction leaders’ presence implies, this scenario is of high importance to both the Second Seekers (Luwazi Elsebo) and the Acquisitives factions, and PCs are encouraged to slot one of these two factions in their Faction boon slot. Otherwise, there are no recommendations.
Note: If you have Chronicle sheet for Starfinder Society Scenario #1–00: Claim to Salvation with this character’s name on it, please let me know.
Kadef |
Kadef's slotted boons. Looks like none of them will really help, but I'll slot them all anyway. I worked hard for those boons.
Ally:
Faction: Wayfinder Champion
Personal:
Promotional:
Social: Faction's Friend (0/3 used) (fame saver)
Starship:
Vanity:
Slotless: Marked Field Agent, Star Sugar HeartLove!!!
Igna'' |
Igna has Second Seekers (Luwazi Elsebo) slotted.
Otherwise she only played the Commencement.
My 1-00 chronicles are not for this character.
therealthom |
Guys, I checked Archives of Nethys. Under 'Recall Knowledge' you can make untrained checks to recall knowledge if the DC is 10 or less.
Bisig "Wreck" Sandahar |
I have the Acquisitives slotted as my Faction and the Welcome To Starfinder slotless boon.

Is it ok to talk to the group over the com units between rounds if we have found out some information about our subjects?

Absolutely! The agents can even gather and talk in person without drawing much attention to themselves in the crowded room.

Too much happening out there. We need 4 successful checks to influence a guest. We'll need to concentrate where we have the best chance of success. Might be best if we set up a Matrix.

GM Transparency Time: I could be wrong, but I am getting a sense that the way I am handling this may be causing some undue anxiety. I want to keep this fun (though not necessarily easy) and I am also trying to follow the scenario as written (and maintain some immersion and also encouraging good roleplaying--I want to be able to do it all!)
So, to alleviate some of the perceived nervousness among the players (not the PCs), please note the following:
1) As stated, the PCs have at least 6 rounds to impress the guests before "something happens". I assure you that the PCs will have some additional opportunities, beyond these initial rounds, to do some impressing of the guests. (So don't feel you have failed if you can't impress every guest within 6 rounds - though if you can, more power to you!).
2) The results from the Sense Motive checks are determined by the roll, which means that they may not be(and in all instances thus far, have not been)) exhaustive of the list of skills that will influence the guests. I have tried to reveal first, those skills that I think (based on a cursory review) the PCs can most readily complete, but additional Sense Motive checks may reveal others.
3) Don't be afraid to try skills that you think may work based on the information you gathered initially about some of the guests. Mentioning certain information the party has gleaned, if used appropriately, may garner additional success.
4) A round's action may be used to Aid Another.
5) Don't fear being creative. The scenario allows me to reward creativity and good roleplaying. I intend to do so liberally.
Hopefully, this information will help address any real or perceived anxiety, though please don't think that I have revealed all of the mechanics as I hope to provide a couple of surprises during the gala.
Let me add, that I have enjoyed the introductions and look forward to roleplaying this encounter in particular with you all.

Nice chart, thom the real!
@GM Valen: could we borrow space to put up a slide on your Slides?
It would be easier for us to add notes and track and such?

[ooc]Sure, I have added a slide and cut-and-paste the above matrix.

Eric, your the first person to mention recognizing the components of therealthom. 'Tis nice after all these years. Now I've a challenge for you, if you're willing. Can you figure out the second rationale behind the name?

Thanks for the note, GMV. On the player transparency side, I wasn't terribly anxious, just a little concerned. See the spoiler about when I played The Commencement. I believe explicit organization can really help everyone keep track of what's going on.
The commencement race is very similar to this encounter in that there are several NPCs and the party splits up to try to influence them or do other good stuff. Making the bike better went great. But no one really tracked the deals we'd made with other riders. In the race team members repeatedly declared attacks or tricks against other riders that we had alliances or non-aggression pacts with.

Pushing the DC up on failed attempts is a significant penalty.
We don't have a lot of skills that fit well with what we know about the guests. We might have to use a lot of aid another.
For the following discussion, I don't know Igna's strong skills, so I might be overlooking something.
Royo, 'scholarly affairs' looks like a tough sell for us. Ancient cultures and science are not our strong suit. Unless Igna has a strength in those, I suggest we write Royo off, don't even try.
Zo! ' entertainment mogul' As noted in the game thread, we've got a good start with him. We've got flashy physical or combat oriented skills. If we can repeat checks I think we'll be in.
Iteration-177 'Aspis Consortium'. Religious artifacts and connections. Not engineering. I'll guess he's also interested in knowledge checks. It might be worth Kadef small talking him.
Naiaij, Starfinder VC. Despite the unlucky start with Naiaj, he still looks like a good candidate. Piloting and computers are strong for Feriac and Wreck, and I can help out Wreck on piloting in a future round. I'd be willing to bet Naiaj would like engineering too. Another strong Feriac skill.
Ykris 'corporate lobbyist'. I really want to see what Ykris is like. I can't even begin to guess what might work for him.
Igna'' |
Sorry, I forgot I did not add Igna's skills to the slide.
I'm traveling a lot and in hotels and such so a lot of phone which is not good for slides.
Now I've a challenge for you, if you're willing. Can you figure out the second rationale behind the name?
Well, without Google... no.
Thom for Thomas?
A fake one...

Pushing the DC up on failed attempts is a significant penalty.
Agreed, but I have to go with as written. That being said, I intend to award liberally for role-playing, which the scenario also expressly allows.
GM Valen |
Unexpectedly heavy work load today and my wife is out of town, so I have all the kids' activities to cover. Will update and move us along tomorrow.
GM Valen |
GMV, I see what happened in round 3. I got it wrong -- I should have been using sense motive instead of diplomacy for small talk. The net roll would have been 9. So no information.
And I should have asked, can I take 10 on sense motive for small talk?
I realized the source of the mix-up, too, only after I went back and re-read it.
Yes, PCs may take 10 for Sense Motive.
Bisig "Wreck" Sandahar |
Would someone be willing to aid me in talking to Naiaj about piloting this round?
therealthom |
The rest of us have all gone in round 4. So no help then.
I'd be happy to help on piloting in round 5. Feriac also has a few points in piloting.
Our best overall chance might be, round 5 Feriac helps Wreck try piloting on Naiaj. Kadef helps Igna" with Acrobatics or athletics on Zo!
Round 6 we gang up on Naiaj. Feriac and Wreck run engineering on Naiaj. I'll try diplomacy with Igna's help.
Actually a round 4 engineering check on Naiaj, if successful could put us in very good position.
Just my suggestions. There's probably a more optimal arrangement.
Bisig "Wreck" Sandahar |
Can you attempt to Aid if you are untrained in the skill?
GM Valen |

A complete and total success at the social interactions! Well done, Starfinders.
That "mini-game" accounts for the bulk of the adventure, so expect events to progress a bit more quickly and along the lines of a typical scenario from here forward.
therealthom |
I'd like to put in for the armor and at least one grenade, but am a firm believer in letting gear go where it will be the most use.
Kadef is grenade proficient. As a bombard Igna can probably make more efficient use of the grenades, but would we be better served by the option to deliver two in a single round? Or to let Igna deliver damage in other ways?
In his brief career, aside from 1 crit, Kadef has been a non-factor in combat. He's been most useful as a damage sponge. The armor would be helpful in that role.
