Maddie walks along, nose buried in the one book she grabbed from the library, seemingly oblivious to the world around her yet still unerringly avoiding running into or tripping over anything.

Kelhuud lowers his weapon, and approaches to take Viralane off your hands, "I will take this woman into our custody. But make haste, we felt a disturbance in the past few days on the island. Something stirs beneath the Mountain." he warns.

Viralane smirks, "Probably Remy's bad manners.". But then immediately pipes up, "Can you at least give me one of those books to read? Hey little girl, what was your name...Maddie! You're going back down for the books anyway, could you perhaps leave that one for me to read." She looks over to Borgol, "Besides, you don't want me to be bored, do you? Who knows all the wicked plans i'll come up with to escape while im not reading."

After an hour of preparation, you share a quick meal with Kelhuud and then set back out into the depths of the island. By the time you make it back to the entrance to The Forsaken Mezzanine, it is already dark, and you realised you've spent a full day on your journey to and from Kelhuuds camp.

Without even looking up, Maddie raises her hand and places it on Viralane's face like she's shushing her. Instantaneously, thin gray/tan lines appear along the woman's jaw, thickening over several seconds until the lower portion of her face is made of stone.
"Keep busy with this, 'kay?" Maddie distractedly asks, flipping to the next page in her book.

Maybe a little cruel, but *shrug*. Using Calcific Touch to deal a point or two of dexterity damage and petrify Viralane's mouth, if possible.

Viralane looks shocked at the actions, murmuring in pain as her lips are petrified. Her eyes, expressing what her voice could not, "You're just letting her do this...?"

Remy smirks but lets Maddie have her fun.

”Let’s camp out here before going back down,” Remy says to the others. Assuming nothing disturbs their sleep, she then leads the group down to the library level and heads down the first path they haven’t explored yet.

Maga nods, "Sounds like a plan. All this back and forth has got me fatigued. Feel's like i've been on this island for a lot longer, strange huh?" During the evening, the alchemist is helpful and makes sure the fire keeps burning. He tries to make casual conversation, knowing full well the groups attitude towards him, "So ah, one of you mentioned an elven name earlier today...Audrahni, was it? Sounds like she's no longer with you, whats the story there?"

The evening slowly turns to night, and before you know it you are engulfed by the darkness, as even the moon is not present. The darkness feels almost unnatural, and most of you struggle to get comfortable.

After you are rested, you make your way back down through the Mezanine and into the Gaunlet. Once you get to the portal room, it once again shimmers to life, the waters bubbling from the proximity to the runestone.

Maga laughs out loud, "Didn't you say you stepping through an unusual portal is what got you into this mess in the first place. And you're telling me we're about to step through another one...?" The alchemist drinks a few extracts, preparing for whatever is on the other side.

"For knowledge!" Maddie calls out, and makes to cannonball into the shimmering waters (after bottling another sample, to compare to her prior vial later on), and carries out that exact plan unless stopped.

Was there more to the Mezzanine level we did not explore? It looks like there are still concealed areas on the map. If there's nothing else to find there, then Remy will proceed into the portal.

@Remy, my apologies, yes there were a few more rooms, but they were mostly already cleared out by Viralane and the Peacock cultists who got here when you arrived. I say we just move onto the final stretch of the chapter.

You give a quick glance about the Mezzanine level, and find more nooks and cranny's where old historians used to spend time and immerse themselves in their studies and ancient literature. Nothing immediately stands out to you, as the place was mostly ransacked by Viralane and her gang.

Okay, sounds good.

Remy tells Maga about their missing elven friends, but only gives the barest details.

Once in front of the portal pool, the monk takes a deep breath and holds the Abyssal runestone as the portal activates. "I have my own misgivings as well, but this is the path forward. We must be strong and persevere to achieve victory. Let's go."

After calling upon her ki to thicken her skin, she strides forth into the waters, moments before Maddie cannonballs in behind her.

Maga rolls his eyes, and carefully steps into the portal after Remy and Maddie. The rest of the group follow suit.

I will assume normal buffs on for everyone? Let me know if you are doing anything crazy.

Drifts of dust and small heaps of rubble clutter this room. A long hallway extends off to the west, while to the east a second hallway ends at a circular pillar that blocks entrance to a large room beyond save for narrow gaps to either side. A blue marble statue of a thin man with a cruel face and long hair fringing a bald pate, his arms outstretched, stands in the middle of the room, still upright despite one-inch-wide gaps that separate the statue into six components—a head, two arms, two legs, and a torso. A plaque at the statue’s base bears a single word.

The plaque at the base of the statue bears the name “Thybidos” in Thassilonian. The statue itself is held together by a thin shell of force.

The gap in the wall looks too tony to squeeze through by any normal meals.

Remy, only please:
You feel a dark presence enter your mind. A familiar male voice echoes dark words, "You done well to come here. Speak my name and enter..."

Remy cocks her head, as if listening to an inaudible voice. ”Thybidos,” she declares loudly. ”He is inviting us in.”

At night while enveloped in the unnatural darkness, Fergus will pray to Angradd for protection.

When Remy mentions Thybidos, Fergus will try to see if he knows the name.

Fergus does not recognise the name to have any significance, but he remembers the group discussing about the now diseased runelord a few times before.

Remy speaks the name, and the large circular slab begins to decent into the ground, fueled by an unseen eldritch energy from the spoken word.

Question, what light sources does anyone have? Cause it is super dark in here. I have moved your tokens up to the next room.

Once the dust settles, you peer into the darkness of the chamber ahead. Maga comments, "Well, that can't be good. Last change to leave and go home...going once...going twice...Oh great you're all moving forward towards the darkness, not away from it."

The marble floor of this grand chamber is set with a striking design in jade and golden glass. The ceiling rises to a height of sixty feet above the pillar-lined central portion of the room, while a twenty-foot-high raised balcony surrounds this on three sides. A broad set of steps ascends to this overlooking balcony at the east end of the hall.

DC 20 Kn. Arcana or Religion:
This whole area is a temple to wrath, a place to worship the power of what the complex’s creators considered the purest and most potent form of magic.

Whatever light source you have, is not enough to encompass the entire chamber, especially since you have not made your way up the stairs. Please move yourselves forward, and let me know what actions you want to take.

Remy walks carefully down the hall, marveling at its grandeur. She lets Borgol and Flik lead the way, searching for traps. Assuming it is safe, she will surmount the stairs and check out what lies at the far east end of the balcony. The statues and pool on the map.

Borgol shrugs at Maga's statement, "Sometimes, it's our job to bring light to the darkness.., and casts a spell on a copper piece. He holds up his partially-closed hand, the light spilling in rays between his fingers and whistles, "Well, this is certainly impressive." He then laughs and adds, "Then again, my frame of reference is a combat pit and the tunnels leading up to it."

Seeing Remy move forward, Borgol steps ahead of her, taking a position next to Flik as he closes his eyes and breathes, focusing his senses befor flipping the lit coin back to Fergus. "Catch. Don't need it when I'm in these spinning things."

As before, if Flik stops to look, Borgol will too, and he auto-succeeds on attempts to aid another

Borgol and Flik can see no immediate traps within the lower portions of the hall. The group, with Remy at the lead, make they way forward and up the stairs.

The steps arrive at a domed fane with the rune of wrath emblazoned on the marble floor. Twelve ivory statues of the same fierce woman wielding a ranseur line the curving walls, flanking a pool of water and a single, thirteenth statue made of gray stone. This thirteenth statue is of a man cowering on his knees, at half the scale of the women. Fresco scenes of unspeakable violence decorate the walls and ceiling, illustrating this place’s dedication to the concept of wrath.

Your light now reaches the rest of the chamber. Further west, six slabs of stone seem to be set into indentations in the walls, while a wider alcove opens in the center of the vast room’s northern wall. Each slab, seems to have a different carving decorating it.

DC 20 Kn Arcana or Religion, or History:
The statues along the walls depict Runelord Alaznist, while the kneeling man is a depiction of Runelord Thybidos in his final moments of life.

I have put small 'descriptors' on the map for each of the stone slabs, let me know how you want to proceed.

Remy eyes the statues warily, remembering prior bad experiences with animated constructs. ”The woman is Runelord Alaznist, and the man is her predecessor, Thybidos. The disdain she felt for him is clear.”

She looks at the pool of water. ”Flik, Maddie? Another portal, perhaps?”

She then makes a circuit around the room, inspecting the slabs for any clues on how to proceed.

"Shall we investigate these writings and carvings?"

Maddie walks through the area invisible, marveling at all the scenery, sending her lights into dark corners on occasion to see better.

Maddie comes up to the pool of water, scanning the area for magic to the east. The water emanates with extremely powerful evocation magic, caster level 20th. She doesn't think that this is a portal, rather a well of sorts.

Flik wanders over and begins inspecting one of the slabs. This polished stone slab is decorated with carvings of weapons, ancient and beautiful ranseurs battle each other in an eternal presence. Flik recognizes that the ranseur was the favored weapon for Alaznist, normally and quite specifically depicting the "faith" of this wrathful Azlant.

"A well?" Remy asks after Maddie explains her findings. "I remember stories of the Sihedron Heroes coming upon several wells of power in their campaign against Karzoug. They used one to enchant their weapons and drank from others to gain magical power. I wonder..."

The monk kneels by the pool and dips her handwraps into the water. If nothing seems to happen, she then cups some water in her hand and drinks it.

As Remy goes to cup her hands in the water, Maga puts his hand out to stop her, "No, don't do th..." But he is too late.

Remy takes a sip of the water, and she immediately feels the raw magical energies course through her veins. This feels oddly familiar. A splitting headache courses pain throughout your body, you fall to the ground, quivering.

As her friends rush to her side, suddenly a wave of force centered around Remy pushes everyone back.

Everyone, except for Remy and Flik because he is too far away, please make me a DC 18 Reflex save, or take 10d4 ⇒ (2, 1, 2, 3, 3, 3, 1, 4, 2, 1) = 22 damage as the shockwave hits you.

Remy, only:
After a few moments after the explosion of force, your headache stops. You feel fine, but something primal course through you. You feel like you can muster this energy, to cast force punch at caster level 10, only once until you replenish your energies at another well.

Borgol looks around, then mutters aloud, "Is this it, then? Did she commemorate how she managed it - leaving us a map of how it can be done?"

He starts to walk away to explore the slabs when Remy speaks, causing him to turn on his heel -- and start rushing forward when he sees her raising the well-water to her lips, before being blasted by the shockwave.

Remy groans and collapses in a heap beside the pool. The force blast buffets her robes as the monk shudders for a few moments. Then, as quickly as the headache came, it passes, and Remy tentatively gets to her feet.

The monk feels power thrumming through her body, more so than even her inner well of ki. She makes a fist and feels force gathering within, so she quickly lets the magic fade. Belatedly, she sees the others who were knocked down by the shockwave.

"Sorry! My curiosity got the better of me--but I was right! The pool has filled me with a bit of magical power. It might give the power to others who drink from it too--but let's be sure anybody who is not drinking stays far away in case there's another explosion!"

While the others decide whether or not to drink, Remy wanders over to investigate the skull slab.

Borgol pauses, looking skeptically at Remy, remembering the magical influence over her the previous day. "Do we need to worry that it's only your new body that can contain the power? I'd hate to explode."

So i moves Borgol, Maddie and Fergus back to to the stairs a few ft away from Remy, after the shock wave. Remy is still where she is, standing up i assume.

After the shockwave settles, you get to your feet, but before you know it, a laughing woman's voice echo's through the chamber. "Aha-ha! Of course you'd drink from the well, Remy. And here I was placing bets that it would be that bumbling dwarf. Fergus, my darling, your kind doesn't belong here anymore, we cleared them out aeons ago..."

Suddenly, four of the statues of Alaznist begin to move, breaking free from their pedestals.

Orange swing's it's ranseur around it's head then goes in for a swing to Remy's legs, trying to trip her. ...but fails to match the monks agility as she over the weapon.

Borgol shakes his head to clear it from falling, I really wish Leandra had taught me her leaping up trick when she was teaching me to pick locks... This is going to hurt..., but rolls to his feet, trying to keep his glowing shield between him and the statue as he does. Let's at least make it harder to trip me again.. he thinks as he calls on Erastil's power of life and growth to surge through him, doubling in size, plus, it's more power to try to grind the statues to dust. He then laughs, "You're asking about my humanity? I'd say I found it when I got out of the pits and realized that there were some things - and some people - worth fighting for. Which is also the answer to your second question... that and just being too darn stubborn to quit."

Between Remy and Fergus, they are able to easily dismantle the pair of statues attacking them. Borgol, Maga and the young Maddie, the other pair of combatants crumble at their direct assault.

Combat over!

Maga juggles another bomb up and down in the air menacingly, "Oh are all the enemies down? Are you guys okay? ...and more importantly, did you piss off a Runelord?" The man eventually puts the bomb back on his lanyard.

The room goes quiet again, the light from your spells causing you to question if the rest of the statues moved on their own again. For now, you are safe.

Maddie detects magic, and notices that the kneeling statue of Thybidos has a powerful spell cast on it.

Spellcraft DC 24:
You notice the Symbol of Scrying spell attached to the statue.
