Zartan makes quick effort to discern no traps are on the doors, and they appear unlocked as well. Easy pickings!
I will give you the box text for doors you can see past by opening them. You may or may not wish to explore them more fully.
Five cots line the west wall of this barracks. A dusty table, counters, and a hearth share the east side of the room.
A large forge flanked by large bellows dominates the east wall, though they and the nearby anvil are caked in soot. Half-full weapon racks hold an assortment of daggers, spears, and swords, and low piles of arrowheads, coal, and metal ingots line the southwest wall.
This leads to a double door.
phosdlon |
Phosdlon casts Detect Magic and scans each room in turn for possible magic...
Northern Room: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (8) + 5 = 13
Southern Room: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (3) + 5 = 8
Eastern Room: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (13) + 5 = 18
....when the party gets ready to open the double doors that lead out of the East room, Phosdlon says.."Great Goddess, Yuelral, please bless my weapon with your goodness."
GOOD: Holy Strike (minor): At 1st level, you can touch one weapon and bless it with the power of purity and goodness. For 1 minute, this weapon glows yellow-gold and deals an additional 1d6 points of damage against evil creatures. During this time, it’s treated as good for the purposes of overcoming damage reduction. This additional damage doesn’t stack with the additional damage from the holy weapon special ability.
Zartan Samuel |
Seeing the rooms, Zartan searches each one for useful items left behind.
Perception, North: 1d20 + 15 ⇒ (15) + 15 = 30
Perception, South: 1d20 + 15 ⇒ (2) + 15 = 17
GM Worg |
In the northern room you find an old yet small diary, hidden under one of the cot mattresses. The most notable entry is the last one.
Everything! I’ve tried everything, and still my creation defies me! I would pull all the sacred prisms from their sockets to deactivate the defenses if I could, but even now those same defenses I insisted on creating prevent me from reaching the only things that could allow me to stop the defenses, which would allow me to reach them were it not for the defenses, which keep me from reaching them!
Am I even making sense anymore?
I have resolved to charge the remaining prisms. Perhaps their energy will enable me to override the system. Ideally I could remove the prisms and actually open all of the doors properly.
=========================================================================== =============================
Much of this room is bare, though there are still a few weapons left that the crusaders did not carry into battle.
+1 Axiomatic Bolts
+2 Seeking Sling Bullets
Nargal Bor |
"Not that I currently have a use for those bits of ammunition, discretion might be the better part of valor and we take them in case we need them?"
phosdlon |
With Detect Magic still functioning, Phosdlon examines the ammunition...
Spellcraft(3 bolts) vs. DC=22: 1d20 + 10 + 2 ⇒ (1) + 10 + 2 = 13
Spellcraft(4 bullets) vs. DC=27: 1d20 + 10 + 2 ⇒ (1) + 10 + 2 = 13
...and shares anything he may learn with the group.
Added +2 for Elf.
Well now, that sucks. I hope I see the last of those.
Hanlin |
Hanlin rummages through the holy symbols and alchemical supplies while the others motor off exploring the next rooms "You guys sure move fast. Don't miss anything!" He calls after them.
He gathers up what seems to be useful, especially the prisms, and heads after them in case there's trouble.
Zartan Samuel |
"What an odd entry. Does he want the prisms in or out?"
"We have the bolts, bullets, and journal. Anyone else find anything?
Tesson |
Tesson looks over Kitani's shoulder...
Spellcraft 1, DC 22: 1d20 + 14 ⇒ (1) + 14 = 15
Spellcraft 2, DC 27: 1d20 + 14 ⇒ (15) + 14 = 29
He burps and points at the bullets.
"Those are +2 Seeking Sling Bullets. Pluss two? I don't even know what I'm saying. Believe it or not but this little thingies are magical, though."
And he wanders elsewhere.
Nargal Bor |
PER: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (3) + 8 = 11
"Well, anyone besides me have a sling for them? If not, well, not that I plan on using anything ranged much, but I can use them."
Hanlin |
Hanlin heads inside to have a look after browsing through all of the alchemical equipment back in the main room "Some sleeping quarters and a forge with some leftover weapons. Let's hope we don't need to camp out here for a while under a siege." He says as he sits on a bed and tests out the springs.
Perception vs Barracks: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (19) + 3 = 22
Perception vs Forge: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (7) + 3 = 10
As the topic of ammunition resurfaces thanks to the magical bolts and bullets Hanlin reiterates "Just a dusty light crossbow for me. I still think maybe we could use some of these to rearm some of those traps. Well, Zartan probably more likely than me."
He waits for the double doors to be tackled, shield equipped and wand of bless in hand.
GM Worg |
Past the eastern doors...
A long coat rack laden with baggy leather suits and a wooden wardrobe comprise the only furnishings in this room. A desiccated body lies slumped against the north wall, cradling a glowing prism in its limp arms. A second prism lies at the body’s side. Iron doors lead to the north and west.
Suits of armor reside against the wall, five total, and they are set for medium humanoids. Two additional suites for small humanoids are also there.
Suddenly, from the corpse, a sensation of dread emanates outwards.

Hanlin gets an uncomfortable feeling as the ghostly figure swipes through his armor "Get back Ghalcor! We're here to finish what you started!"
He takes a step back into the doorway and recites a prayer to Iomedae causing a ray of bright light to shoot out of his palm towards the Allip.

GM Worg |
As Zartan and Kitani unleash their fury against the spirit, it seems to flail in pain before dispersing.
From the corpse of Ghalcor arises a ghostly form that looks reminiscent of him.
“For the second time, demons draw near,” he explains. “If you have made it this far, then I trust you have disabled many of my tower’s defenses—contingencies that trapped even me when they triggered. The weapon awaits beyond, though I suspect it lacks the energy to activate properly. The prisms that you have seen store the essence of Heaven itself, which I harvested out of hubris. You will see places to slot them in the control panel at the top of the stairs. Once you are ready to fire the weapon, turn both keys at once, and I shall pray that my creation is powerful enough to banish the scourge of Sarkoris.”
Having said his peace, Ghalcor begins to slowly fade away.
You can ask him a few questions before he fades away entirely.
Kitani |
"Everyone talks about the weapon but nobody knows what to do, what your weapon consists of and what traps or dangers await us?"Kitani ask after seeing how they are going to fight per room
Tesson |
"Is there a way to reactivate the traps after us? And where are those keys you talk about?" asks Tesson, frowning.
Nargal Bor |
Nargal snaps out of her facination, shakes her head to clear it, and wonders to herself what actually just happened.
Hanlin |
"Don't leave us just yet Ghalcor, we have so many questions. I have so many questions!" Hanlin takes a reserved step forward towards his spirit, a look of disappointment in his face. He gave us so much, he gave it all. We can't fail him.
"What does this weapon do? How will we know the right time to use it?" He asks hurriedly before the spirit fades completely.

Phosdlon goes over to Zartan..."Bright Lady, Yuelral, please heal my companion."

GM Worg |
Sorry for the delay, GM is back.
"Is there a way to reactivate the traps after us? And where are those keys you talk about?"
I do not remember how to rearm the traps you speak of... The keys remain in the weapon...
What does the weapon do?
My creation channels holy energy over a massive area, as if Iomedae herself had spoken a single word of ineffable holiness. All who are evil shall feel its wrath.
The northern doors click as Ghalcor fades away, and they pop open. You also notice his corpse has a few items of potential value on it.
Saving time, and apologizing for the delay in my posts, I'll just tell you what they are;
• Cassock of the Clergy
• Scroll of Align Weapon
• Potion of Shield of Faith (CL12th)
As most of you can beat a DC10 perception check...
You hear the sound of smashing and crashing in the northern doors up ahead. Something stirs in there.
phosdlon |
Before the doors are opened, Phosdlon says.."Great Goddess, Yuelral, please bless my weapon with your goodness."
GOOD: Holy Strike (minor): At 1st level, you can touch one weapon and bless it with the power of purity and goodness. I forget, is it possible to do 2 swift actions in a round? Perhaps one as swift and one as move?
Nargal Bor |
Nargal, hearing the noises up ahead, goes and places herself by the doors to prevent anything bad from happening to the group as a whole. "Hey, guys," she says loud enough to be heard by the group, "There is something in there!"
Tesson |
@Phoslon: You can't :)
Tesson looks at the loot and considers the elixir for a moment, then chooses that it's not for him. He moves behind Nargal, tankard at the ready.
Kitani |
When Kitani enters the room and observes the strange beings, he knows that the final battle is coming and it is time to give everything, prepare a spell and let fortune bring luck to them.
cast haste
GM Worg |
Alright, a lot happens now, so bear with me...

The entire room hums with energy. An immense column of silver and steel rises through the center of this tower, almost touching the ceiling nearly one hundred feet above, where it’s capped by an elaborate device much like an astrolabe of gold and glass. Stairs made of metal mesh round the perimeter of the tower clockwise before reaching a platform twenty feet off the ground. A C-shaped console occupies much of the platform.
Two rat-like demons, who awoke from a long slumber, begin smashing things in the room to damage the weapon! They must be stopped!
From outside, a very large and powerful demon begins climbing up the walls!
You also hear the sounds of Ollysta Zadrian shouting as she urges you to activate the weapon.
“Focus on the activating the weapon! I will hold off the demon for as long as I draw breath!”
You also hear the sounds of an explosion happening near the entrance, and the screams of Ollystra and her Crusaders.
