Starfinder GM Red |

Following up on previous intelligence about a broad conspiracy against the Society, the PCs undertake a daring raid against a fortified complex near a city within the Pact Worlds. With only a limited amount of time to breach the site and retrieve valuable data before an automated system scrubs the files, the PCs need to use all their skills in order to complete this mission in a race against the clock.
Content in Data Breach also contributes to the ongoing goals of the Dataphiles faction.

"Apologies, everyone," Hawthorne says. "She's been feeling rather impish since we integrated some recovered kishalee technology into our exocortex."
The image of a cell-shaded woman in an ancient Golarion, formal dress (Chelish design) appears on the screens of your com units and blows a kiss. Animated hearts splash across the screen and then the screen refreshes.

I suppose I'll clarify regarding Solar Sortie as well since everyone else is doing it. I'm currently finishing up a run of that scenario, but with a different character. Just slogging through the most dragged-out starship combat I've ever experienced due to bad luck on a lot of rolls.

List of Less Common Abilities
Tattoo of the Starfinder: 1 time use. Gain 10 temporary hit points as an immediate interrupt when struck by a critical hit or at least 15 points of damage from a spell or supernatural ability (also regain 1 resolve point). Bot instructions: Use to avoid unconsciousness/death otherwise save for a time when RP < maximum.
Remote Hack: Can perform Computers and Engineering checks at a range of 20 ft (observers Perception/Sense Motive to notice DC = 21).
Wireless Hack: Sophia (exocortex) can access computers within 20 ft and perform Computers checks on her own while Hawthorne does other things. Or Hawthorne can assist to double up the actions per round.
Hack Directory: Whenever Hawthorne (or Sophia) fails a check to hack a system, they immediately become aware of all countermeasures triggered and may make an immediate Computers check at the original DC to stop one counter measure from triggering.
Hawthorne has a +18 modifier to Computers/Engineering to hack systems controlling doors or to disable locks.

Starfinder GM Red |

Thanks for listing those abilities, Hawthorne!
If you've played it, can someone paste the text of the #1-14 'Tip of the Conspiracy' boon from your chronicle for me, please?

![]() |

You got it, boss!
Tip of the Conspiracy (Unidentified Boon): You assisted Historia-7 in learning about a growing conspiracy against the Starfinder Society, though the trail of clues seemingly ended at Songbird Station. This boon represents your involvement in thwarting one of the conspiracy's plans. This boon might have repercussions in future scenarios, which you will be told prior to slotting your boons. Future scenarios calling on this boon will specify what boon slot it must be slotted in.

![]() |

Moxie will slot Known Quality for her Social Boon (Multiple Day Job by Acquisitive faction tier) and Publicist for her Ally Boon (+1 Diplomacy and the ability to sacrifice the boon to reduce Infamy by 1). She also has the Tattoo of the Starfinder Boon.

![]() |

Before I lock in my Ally boon, just confirming that Envar's Attention from 1-07 does not apply.
Thanks!

Starfinder GM Red |

@Hawthorne, doesn't look like the Envar's Attention boon applies here.
@Chikasa, it should go in the Ally slot.

Good deal. Then my updated boons are below, including one I forgot earlier:
Ally: Tip of the Conspiracy
Faction: Second Seekers (Luwazi Elsebo) Champion
Personal: Scoured Stars Veteran
Social: Instructor
Slotless: Marked Field Agent, Starfinder Insignia, Ghibran Linguist, Scoured Stars Veteran

Starfinder GM Red |

Slight delay here as I haven't had much time to update today - will resume tomorrow... My apologies.

![]() |

Sovyal’s last Intimidate post kind of gave mixed messages there. ;)
Divulge what you know... rats get their heads replaced by tentacles.
Guess that jives with the 16. ;)

![]() |

HAH! Not only was my roll bad, but I didn't think about the Rat=Snitch association at all. I just picked some vermin at random that I felt would sound insulting.
Earning my nat 1 on all fronts.

![]() |

I'm good with the second row of targets. Will move to within 20 ft of things that need to be hacked or bypassed.
SOP: Sophia will Take 10 for 28 on any Engineering or Computers checks to bypass any locks/doors within 20 ft. She will access any unsecured computer systems with 20 ft to see what they do. If they are secured, then we move on to Hacking, which is circumstantial and outside SOP.

![]() |

There's two cloaks. I'm thinking that Chik chik should take one because he does have the lowest HP/STA of the group.
In regards to the drone wearing and using a magical cloak...I'm not the GM but as someone who mostly GMs, I really hate the idea of this. It feels cheesy. And it means pretty much every Mechanic will want to pick up a ring of resistance...because why wouldn't you?
Its another issue entirely, but with the way drone's AI is described in the book, I don't think they even get their own reactions. Not sure everyone would agree with me on that, but note that they don't get any feats that use reaction actions, such as Step Up or Bodyguard.

![]() |

Yeah, I couldn't find anything definitive online so really leaving it to the GM. (Not that it would matter much I think since T771-M4 is not likely going to last long in combat.) Drones are considered constructs of technological sub-type, so the question thus is whether constructs can use magic items? My sense is items that require active use, e.g. fusions on weapons, hybrid items, etc should be fine. I mean, a drone should be about to pour a serum down someone's throat - it is essentially an extension of the mechanic. However, wearable magic items become more grey.
Ah, didn't think about the reaction issue but you're right. RAW, no mention that drones have reaction so they don't. Huh, so that makes unweldy weapons so much more attractive now. :) So I guess the cloak issue is moot.

![]() |

I feel a little bad, because I'm sounding like a buzz kill here. The reaction thing came up in a game where I was playing a drone mechanic with a melee drone and it was pretty annoying at the time because I had a tactical pike on the drone.
A drone should definitely be able to feed some one a serum...if it has manipulator arms that is.
And in regards to magic items...I was reading through the drone entry again and while it specifically says that drones can't wear armor and they can't use items that increase their states. There are also mods for what kinds of weapons they can use and a mod that lets them use a technological item. But nothing about magic items.
It's kind of amazing they never thought to address what drone can and can't specifically use in a clearer way, especially because in Pathfinder they ended up having to come out with a huge FAQ addressing exactly what items familiars and companions can use.
And you're spot on about unwieldy weapons. I think they're great for drones, especially because they're not great at full attacking either.

![]() |

Haha no no not buzzkilling. I tend to be a bit of a rules lawyer so always glad to understand the rules better. The reaction thing was something I never thought about but reading it again, it makes sense. Until level 20, the drone is more of a remote control device than a true autonomous being. For example, if the mechanic falls unconscious, the drone can't take actions. So I can imagine that it would not be able to take reactions either. I guess one could argue that the mechanic could use its reaction for the drone, but I can't quite picture how that works - reactions are very quick responses while I imagine controlling a drone requires more complex actions.

Starfinder GM Red |

What do you guys think a good marching order would be inside the vault? I'd think Hudathan up front? Can you all drop your pawn in the order you'd like on this slide?

![]() |

As long as we’re not stealthing, Hudathan is happy to be up front!

Starfinder GM Red |

Hudathan, doesn't a Corona Artillery Laser do 2d8 damage instead of 2d10? Or is there something modifying it?

![]() |

Yep, should be 2d8. I'm almost entirely sure that there isn't anything in Starfinder yet that could bump it up to a different die type.

![]() |

Well, shucks! I did think that seemed like rather high damage. Thanks for checking! I must have mistyped when I levelled up and bought it.

![]() |

Since I totally failed to mention it ahead of time: Sovyal is centered around combat debuffing (he applies flat-footed, off-target, and shaken (and 2/day entangled) all on the same trick attack). Probably won't matter against these guys, but if we have more dangerous enemies, feel free to let me know if you have a particular target you think needs debuffing and I'll get in there.

![]() |
1 person marked this as a favorite. |

Hmmmm...I was wondering why you went with the Star Knight. I didn't think you did it for the free Heavy Armor Proficiency. I did notice that feinting is also now just sense dependent also. Which is great, because I think robots are by far the most common enemy you face in Starfinder.

![]() |

BTW, as a heads up I'll be out at PAX East for the next four days. I hope to be able to get some posts in, especially tomorrow and Saturday, but if you need to bot me please do.

![]() |

Soyval, I'm curious...how is the shaken penalty also applying to the damage rolls? I like demoralizing as a tactic so I was looking your build over and I couldn't figure out what would be giving you that.

![]() |

The penalty to damage rolls comes from the Grim Trophies armor upgrade!
I'm looking forward to also picking up the Ferocity Blazon once I scrounge up enough credits to afford it.

![]() |

Don't take this personally Sovyal/Mnamae.
Pet peeve: When players (or worse GMs) play out the long gaps between posts in PbP as if the characters are actually standing around dawdling. In game time, it takes Hawthorne all of 42-48 seconds to enter the inner office, pull out the crate, and tell people what's in the crate.
But in player-time, the player updated his other PbP threads, put his son to bed, watched TV with his wife, and then went to sleep before waking up to get ready for the day, change his daughter's diaper and clothes, and then took a recertification exam. For example.

![]() |

Hey no offence taken. That's the whole point of PBP, playing at a time and pace of our comfort. Mnamae-6 was reacting to the tense situation of infiltrating enemy territory. He thinks he is a cool and collected android, but under stress, cracks start appearing. :)

![]() |

Yeah, I get that, but I'm reading it is that some of the other players are just chomping at the bit and trying to move the story along.
Not to clutter up gameplay, but some of those weapons are pretty cool and meta game wise...sometimes you get something because you can use it later.
Like maybe Soyval should hold onto those tetrad rings because they deal force damage and he seems to be the only character besides Moxie that uses small arms.
The polarity gauntlets are an odd one...you need two hands free to attack with them, but I don't know if they fill your hands up the way a doshko would, for example, or if you can hold items in them when you're not using them. It'd be a cool weapon for a multi-armed operative though.
