Spanner |
Spanner stays in the back, not trusting the newly possessed Pangea-Zeta.
Pangea-Zeta |
Pangea asks itself: "Do we continue to see this city?"
Shohiraj . |
"Yes, we are going to see the city. It may not be what Jadnura intended, but we are Starfinders."
As they walk down the passage, Sho keeps up a barrage of questions.
"Do other Mentrasi wait here to guide visitors to Xaharee?"
"We were attacked by rocks that dissolved into something like your spirit self. DO you know anything about them? Will we run into more?"
"How far is it to Xaharee?
NPC Lupulus |
The spirit resonds some more through Pangea.
"Mentrasi are always waiting here, but not for visitors. Waiting because we cannot leave. Cannot finish dying."
"I apologize if you were attacked. Some Mentrasi are angry, some are frustrated. I do not think we will find more like that on our way to Xaharee, it is not far."
The spirit will answer more questions you may have on the way, the rest of your trip only takes about an hour.
Keep asking any more questions you want now, or after you arrive at the city.
GM Lupulus |
The narrow passages open into an enormous cavern with ceilings 200 feet high in places, and a subterranean city lies before you. Or at least the remains of one. Many buildings have collapsed, and connecting passages cut off with hardened magma and fallen rocks from the seismic damage.
Occasional wisps of green above or around show you that there are other spirits here, though none approach. Throughout the town are small piles of dust.
Medicine check to find out about the dust
The spirit gives Pangea an encouraging urge to see two buildings in particular, which he can tell are the library and the a museum. The library is right next to you as you enter and the museum is across the town square.
A new map is up
Spanner |
"Do you remember what happened to your people? How did you come to be this way?"
Pangea-Zeta |
Pangea glances at the dust.
Medicine: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (18) + 6 = 24 (The insight may also grant you a +2 bonus on certain checks about their magic or technology)
NPC Lupulus |
The spirit responds to Spanner through Pangea "I do not remember what happened anymore. All I can remember is that I used to live. Now I am dead. I want to move on, but I am anchored here. I think these things will tell you. The library and the museum."
@Kane: Pangea is translating everything the spirit says, so Kane is getting all of that dialogue too.
Pangea has a pretty good idea the dust is the decomposed remains of the Mentrasi.
Pangea-Zeta |
"To the library..."
Pangea will have a look around as it heads into the building.
Perception: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (15) + 9 = 24
Dart Handman |
"Save the Books! For there is were all Heroes tales are recorded."
Dart heads to the building indicated
Kane Hue |
Library first, but after that, I want to search for lucky pennies in the water fountain over there. Yes I know, there are no pennies in starfinder, but there might be a similar concept in the Starfinder world of toss this in the water for good luck. Might be bottlecaps or whatnot.
GM Lupulus |
But you all head into the library. This building contains multiple data terminals for public use. The inside looks in worse condition than the outside, as the data records that line shelves have been shattered or crumbled, probably from some moonquake.
One of these user terminals does appear to still be intact, and even has power from a battery. Several potentially operable datapads are scattered around, and you may be able to download some data from the terminal to them.
Pangea-Zeta |
Zeta will take a look, and, if easy, will try downloading some data.
If it looks a bit complex, the android will let someone else work on the computer, but will help.
Computers Aid Another: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (17) + 6 = 23
"Well, there's one of these user terminals that appears to still be intact, and even has power from a battery."
Pangea also points to its Starfinder Insignia.
"Thiscan store as much information as a common tier-1 datapad."
Otherwise the Comm Unit', on your armor, is a tier 0 computer.
GM Lupulus |
The datapads on the ground allow you to easily download the data onto them, and from there you can make a copy on your own systems.
When you get the usable data off of the terminal, you find a series of diagrams showing how to convert planetary scale shields into barriers for repelling lava flows, a personal datapad journal (see slide #2), and information about a necromantic ritual for binding spirits.
Anyone with Mysticism can study the ritual and give me a Mysticism check.
Shohiraj . |
Way to take care of business, PZ.
"Interesting. It looks like the Mentrasi were faced with a similar situation to the ELebrians, and chaose a similar, but less successful solution. Did something go wrong with their ritual?"
Pangea-Zeta |
"Any way of knowing what these Orbit dates are for us? I imagine it would coincide with when the "Tears" were first sent out or left the Scoured Stars, right?
And is this place we are at Xaharee?
Also, who is this Kadrical? Charming fellow it seems..."
no Mysticism
Spanner |
Mysticism is for Mystics, not Engineers. Spanner helps connect to the computers and download the information.
He will also peruse the personal datapad.
NPC Lupulus |
The spirit bonded with Pangea tries answer some of the quesitons. "I don't remember the ritual, or how long this has been, or what a "Tear" is, sorry... Yes, this is Xaharee. Kadrical? He is a god. The museum knows more I think. Nothing else is here..." He begins to spiritually pull at Pangea, encouraging him to move on and go to the museum.
GM Lupulus |
Kane and Dart are unable to get any particular insight into the ritual.
You leave the library and head across toward the museum. But you stop a moment at least as you pass the town center (Where the fountain is.
Here in the center of this downtown area sits a raised pedestal with the remains of a fountain in the center. Debris surrounds the fountain from the hurried installation of a seven foot tall stone menhir. At the base of the fountain, a small placard sprays sparks and generates random chirping noises due to malfunctioning holographic projection technology. Various tools used in both stone working and magical rituals litter the area. This object was definitely tied to the ritual mentioned in the library data.
The spirit with Pangea definitely imparts some feelings of awe, importance, and even dread at the menhir. But he continues to encourage the party to see the museum for more answers.
You can keep moving on or inspect this area now, with more Mysticism or Perception checks.
Pangea-Zeta |
Pangea has a quick look at the menhir, and the fountain--
Perception: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (13) + 9 = 22
--but is ready to move to the museum.
Spanner |
Spanner does a quick scan of the menhir.
Perception: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (15) + 6 = 21
Shohiraj . |
"Remarkable that the computer's battery still held charge and that ... this still has power."
Sho leaves the group to trot over to the menhir. He crouches beside the placard trying to determine whether the sparks indicate a malfunction or integral to the menhir's operation.
Perception: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (15) + 9 = 24
Engineering: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (18) + 10 = 28
GM Lupulus |
Pangea and Spanner notice tools scattered around, suggesting the menhir was installed hastily. A circle of dust piles surrounding it give another morbid clue about what happened here.
But as Shohiraj gets (too) close to the placard, he can tell the technological part is shot, but the mystical bit, a geomancy focus, seems to be somewhat operational and may be retrieved. Shohiraj isn't the only one thinking that though, as two security robots activate and emerge from hidden alcoves.
Pangea can understand them speaking Mentrasi "Illegal activity detected. Anti-theft measures required. Deploying maximum force crowd control measures." They have integrated hammers readied for their crowd control measures, in addition to some kind of electric arc canon.
Shohiraj: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (20) + 6 = 26
Kane: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (14) + 2 = 16
Pangea Zeta: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (7) + 3 = 10

Redbot: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (16) + 5 = 21
Greenbot: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (1) + 5 = 6
Correct me if I'm wrong, but you took no rest after the cave-in? So everyone is down that 6 or 12 stamina, and Shohiraj had 2 HP damage, right?

Whether or not the others rested, I wasn't going to burn the RP for 6 points so your stats for me are accurate.
Can we see the museum doors from here?
"Maximum force doesn't sound good! Head for the museum!"
Shohiraj leaps and engages his jump jets while drawing his pistols. As he touches down he unleashes a shot at the northern robot.
"Sorry, cousin."

Hopefully the fountain/menhir provides cover from the southern robot.
Spanner |
There was that confusion with the healing serum. I had Spanner take the rest. If he didn't get it, I'll correct his resolve.
Dart Handman |
"Maximum Force! I can oblige. I will clear the path!"
Dart Leaps in to the air attuning to his photon mode and calling forth his mote. Then as a blazing arc, shoots forward in a stellar rush

OK Spanner, I'll update your stamina, makes sense after taking that big hit from the falling rocks that you would heh.
From where you are you can see the entrance to the museum, and the doors are wide open, and in fact could not be closed if that was the plan.
Shohiraj's shot flies wide of the overzealous security robot, and while Dart can't get the leverage to shove the thing, he does burn it pretty decently. Red Robot takes 11 damage.
The Redbot retaliates by swinging his swoop hammer arm at Dart, and smashes him in the face for 15 damage!
The security bots definitely seem malfuncitoning after so long, and are using lethal force in reaction to the tampering.

EIDT: Thanks Dart, I fixed this post so Dart takes the blow he should instead of Kane.
Pangea-Zeta |
Just to double-check: Kane did not take a RP 10 minute rest, correct? (for my tracking Inspiring Boosts)
"It's just a flesh wound!", Pangea calls out to Dart!
Inspiring Boost: Dart gets 15 SP back.
And the android points at the red robot.
"Get that evil little bot!"

Dart feels renewed energy at Pangea's words (or are they the spirit's???)
Kane sends three force darts splatting into the green robot (14 damage to green).
Spanner misses his target.

The green robot sends an arc of electricity that strikes Kane and then arcs to Spanner and Pangea. The direct shot surges through Kane's whole body, but Spanner and Pangea manage to dodge and only get struck in the arm or leg. (6 Electric Damage with Reflex 13 for half)
It then moves to engage its targets.
While damaged, neither robot looks particularly close to being disabled.

The robots turn out to be vulnerable to electric attacks. Which is fortunate as Shohiraj and Dart both put some electric hurt on the red one.
Shohiraj's attack hits for 5+2=7.
Dart's first swing misses, but his second hits for 21+3+1=25.
