Dungeon Master S |
Magics and retries yes, but it must affect the Climb skill. Flight won't help here.
The party tries to scramble, but with each attempt the wall recedes and the howling intensifies. You all slip and fall, though there is no crash, you feel your bones bending and bruises forming.
Everyone takes Bludgeoning: 2d6 ⇒ (5, 4) = 9
You can try a second time! Only by climbing the wall can you complete the vision!
Telka: Go
Pavo: Go
Wyatt: Go
Kaya: Go
Ironshanks: Go
Sir Ninn: Go
Kaya Leafwing |
If Featherfall was used would it negate the damage or no?
Kaya takes a deep breath and retries to get up the wall, "WE CAN DO IT!!!"
Climb: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (15) + 1 = 16
Ironshanks Magee |
Ironshanks lands with a solid thud on the ground sending jolting pain up through his old joints "I really thought I had it there. This time fer sure."
He spits on his gauntlets one more time and starts making his way up the rock face. Climb: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (18) + 3 = 21
Dungeon Master S |
Featherfall won't help as you've actually not fallen at all.
The party continues to struggle but Ironshanks manages to climb to the top! Instantly the haunted realm falls away with a final bay of the wolf!
The room returns to normal. Your wounds from the haunted vision are real however....
Kaya Leafwing |
Kaya pulls out the wolf figuring and tries to figure out where it would go while chattering along, "wow that was interesting. I'd guess we were taken on some sort of spiritual journey by the ghost or spirit of the wolf here who was probably peeved that his statue thing was gone or something. Hey, find out where this thing goes so we can get outta here."
While wandering around, her aching bones remind her that she needs some healing. She pulls a thin stick out and attempts to remember the words and motions associated with activating it.
UMD: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (11) + 10 = 21 for CLW Wand: 1d8 + 1 ⇒ (3) + 1 = 4
And then tries again to eek some more healing from it.
UMD: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (6) + 10 = 16
UMD: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (4) + 10 = 14
UMD: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (11) + 10 = 21 for CLW Wand: 1d8 + 1 ⇒ (8) + 1 = 9
Feeling much better, she continues searching the room. May she use her 22 perception roll from earlier?
Dungeon Master S |
Kaya finds neither a shelf nor a niche for the statue. It appears that it just needs to be here.
Meanwhile Wyatt finds nothing else of important as the party licks its wounds.
Yes, you can keep the roll. Just let me know what you guys are doing.
Kaya Leafwing |
While looking around, the little halfling keeps chattering, "oh I'd guess the injuries were a cost for the spiritual journey. Gotta take something from us or cost us something. But I don't think anyone lost an arm and a leg or got turned into a suit of armor, so we probably got off easy."
Without finding anything, she shrugs and sets the statue on the floor, "well I can't find any specific place this needs to be so I guess we'll just leave it here. We can tell the tribes in case they want to come put it somewhere special."
She moves to the door, ready to move on.
Dungeon Master S |
The instant Kaya sets the statue down a new vision appears. This isn't the lamenting haunting vision you just experienced. This is a vision of a young Shoanti hunter sitting atop a cliff overlooking a sprawling forest. A massive wolf lies next to him, head on her paws. The hunter and the wolf get up and turn to walk away as the sun rises, bathing the forest in its orange glow. The vision fades.
For a moment you see your own faces in the flame...
Ironshanks Magee |
Ironshanks hands Ninn his own healing stick for a bit of self repair. "Mind doin' me a solid kid? You got the way of Iomedae behind ya, good for you."
Wand of CLW: 1d8 + 1 ⇒ (6) + 1 = 7 "Good nuff, knees were a bit stiff after that fall.."
But I don't think anyone lost an arm and a leg or got turned into a suit of armor, so we probably got off easy.
"Now what the hell is wrong with being a suit of armor? If its ok with Torag then its more than OK by me!" He grunts dismissively as another vision kicks in. Again? Oh, that's a bit better. We must have done good here then.
Once the vision fades the walking suit of armor proudly leads the team towards the next room. "Follow me kids, we got more work to do so put away those marshmellows n hots for later." He says, nodding towards the fire.
Standard procedure towards the next room. Take 10 perception on the way, take 20 at the doorway. 20/30. +2 vs stone stuff.
Dungeon Master S |
Currently Wyatt and Ironshanks are at two different doors.
Sir Ninn de Hawtey |
Sir Ninn uses Ironshanks' wand for him, then tightens one of the straps on the dwarf's armor. "Looks like that fall loosened your cuirass."
@GM: How many wand charges have I used so far?
Dungeon Master S |
That's more a function of who said yes to you. Good point, and good catch though. Thank you for the reminder. Practically speaking it's been 4 rooms (about to be 5.) So it's 5 x whomever says yes.
Ironshanks Magee |
Ironshanks would decline buffing for threats that aren't known. If there is likely to be trouble then sure, otherwise he'd pass. So no charges on him used yet.
"Thanks kid. Where'd that Elf wander off to? We've got work to get done, no time for dancing n whatnot."
Kaya Leafwing |
Kaya turns from the vision, a bit of moisture caught in the corner of her eye, she murmers to herself, "we're doing good here, that's for sure."
With a genuine smile she heads out of the room. Wandering by the stocky dwarf she waves a hand at him to follow her, "silly, those stairs don't go anywhere. The jerkbutt that messed stuff up never got past em either."
She stops when she sees Wyatt checking over the next door and waits.
Pavo: the Crimson Nuthatch |
Pavo pulls out his own wand of bone and works on erasing the spiritual bruises. "I'm glad we were able to put it right at the end," he says. "But I wish it hadn't been so painful."
CLW: 1d8 + 1 ⇒ (6) + 1 = 7
CLW: 1d8 + 1 ⇒ (3) + 1 = 4
Dungeon Master S |
The party heals, chides, and walks over to Wyatt. Once the door is deemed safe, it's opened.
In the center of this circular room is a platform overlooking a shallow pit. Inside the pit is a heavily damaged sarcophagus and a broken skeleton. You can only imagine the fury the Shoanti must have felt upon seeing this.
Kaya Leafwing |
Kaya moves in and sighs, "yeah. But we gotta get it up first. Ugh, that is not going to be light. Someone want to go down and scope it out and does anyone have block and tackle?"
Dungeon Master S |
Indeed it looks like it's going to require a lot of muscle to get back into place. Thankfully it looks like you can ALL fit at some angle to help...
Rather than rolling repeatedly for days, I'll rule this for PbP, everyone helping can make a STR check and I'll count the highest as the main and others over 10 as aids?
Pavo: the Crimson Nuthatch |
Pavo hops down into the pit. "How did he mistake this for Thassiloian ruins?" he sighs and shakes his head while he helps put the lid in place.
Strength: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (12) + 1 = 13
Ironshanks Magee |
Ironshanks flips up his visor as the little Halfer drags him to another door where the Elf is waiting [b}"Well why didn't ya say that earlier? I don't read minds ya know!"[/b]
He heads inside and stops and shouts what you can only assume is a foul string of words in Dwarven "Seriously? I think we're cleaning up after a frickin' half orc. They're the only ones the Society would let in that would do something like this!"
Steam starts to flow from his ears as he starts dragging out a length of hemp rope, some pitons and a crowbar. "I got this stuff, it should help at least. Now how should we set it up exactly..."
Anyone with K Engineering perhaps? I'll include the +2 from the crowbar in my attempt.
Strength, crowbar: 1d20 + 3 + 2 ⇒ (14) + 3 + 2 = 19
Dungeon Master S |
Yes to the crowbar. Unfortunately, a high Engineering check will get you little.
Telka Ibn Jad |
Telka tries to help
1d20 - 2 ⇒ (15) - 2 = 13
Kaya Leafwing |
As does Kaya.
Strength: 1d20 - 1 ⇒ (5) - 1 = 4
Dungeon Master S |
The party ALMOST manages to get the sarcophagus up. [i]You'll have to try again. If the party doesn't mind, I don't mind one person rolling en masse.[/ooc]
Wyatt McDonald |
The party tries again...
Pavo(Aid): 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (7) + 1 = 8.
Sir Ninn(Aid): 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (20) + 2 = 22 = Yes.
Wyatt(Aid): 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (11) + 2 = 13 = Yes.
Telka(Aid): 1d20 - 2 ⇒ (19) - 2 = 17 = Yes.
Kaya(Aid): 1d20 - 1 ⇒ (17) - 1 = 16 = Yes.
...this time, most of the party manages to get some kind of grip upon it...
Ironshanks: 1d20 + 3 + 2 + 8 ⇒ (18) + 3 + 2 + 8 = 31.
...allowing Ironshanks to really flex his muscles!
Dungeon Master S |
And with a heave and a ho the party gets the sarcophagus up out of the pit. It's really a mess. Even the skeleton is broken in places.
You think you'll be able to use the stone on the sarcophagus lid. This is the first time you've seen actual remains here though, so who knows if it'll work on the skeleton...
Telka Ibn Jad |
Well done everyone, great group effort there.
Telka examines the bones to see if more mundane means might be able to put them back in order.
Heal: 1d20 + 12 ⇒ (13) + 12 = 25
Kaya Leafwing |
Panting from the exertion, Kaya pats the hefty dwarf on the back, "good work there, now I know where to go for the muscle."
Looking over the skeleton, she double checks her notes and then rustles around the pack with the stuff to return. Pulling a small ring out she looks for the finger it came off of, "let's get this back. Maybe it's magic or something. The last thing was solved by putting the statue back." If she locates an appropriate digit, she will slip the ring on. If nothing happens, she'll try to help Telka with his task of reorganizing the bones.
1d20 ⇒ 13 All Knowledges except Nobility/Dungeoneering +7, Craft: Any +3, Heal +0.
Ironshanks Magee |
Ironshanks puffs up proud as a peacock that he was able to show the group he's still got it. "All in a days work my Dad would always say. Dwarves, we may be short be damned if we aren't stout!" He chuckles and takes a step back to let the others figure out the next steps.
Gah I think I pulled a hammy...
Dungeon Master S |
Telka confirms that the bones are snapped. It'll take magic to set them right. Seems the stone is the best option. Kaya has a good guess on the ring going on the left ring finger.
Use the stone?
Dungeon Master S |
So what, specifically, are you doing now?
Ironshanks Magee |
"Fix that sarcophagus up first, then put them bones back in how they should be n fix 'em with that magic rock. Then we can put the lid back on and fix that too n seal it up tight. Sound good?" Bet most these kids never even been to a burial before. Too damn young!
Dungeon Master S |
Following Ironshank's plan, the party puts everything back into place. There is a lot of stone in the sarcophagus, so while the skeleton is an easy fix, the sarcophagus takes a bit more time.... 2 charges for the skeleton, 3 for the sarcohpagus. Scavenger’s stone: 25/50
Kaya Leafwing |
Kaya slips the ring back onto the left ring finger before they slide the lid back on, "right, that's settled. Onto the next room!"
She points to the door she is standing by, "this one next so we won't have to backtrack. Notes say it's empty but can't trust those completely."
Telka Ibn Jad |
Telka he;ps make sure the bones are placed properly in the sarcophagus. He shakes his head a little, so sad, safe journey friend, wherever you went. I hope this has not disturbed your path
Heading over to the next room he again activates his bless wand, just in case. I'm ready
Dungeon Master S |
After executing the normal door procedure, the party opens it up. This large, mostly empty room features two statues and an incomplete staircase to the north.
The statues in this room are of two Skoan-Quah boneslayers of ages past.
Map updated.
Telka Ibn Jad |
Telka jogs over to have a look at the statues. These look interestiing, anyone know who they are?
I dont have local
Kaya Leafwing |
Knowledge: Local: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (11) + 7 = 18
Kaya looks them over closely, "well I can't guarantee anything, but they look quite like pictures I've seen of Skoan-Quah boneslayers. I don't recall much more than that, but certainly from this region."
She looks around to judge if anything appears to have been disturbed.
Perception: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (14) + 2 = 16
"Anyone see anything that appears to need fixing?"
