Wisdom check: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (13) + 3 = 16
Garran calls on Iomedae’s power of healing again. For the last time today…
Channel: 1d6 ⇒ 5
Paldo Greenspan |
Wisdom: 1d20 + 0 ⇒ (4) + 0 = 4
Not so wise, so I didn't read the clue
Paldo looked puzzled as Linge suggested they move upstairs. "Up the tower yes, however I do not see a way up there..." Paldo looked toward the deceased sergeant and then toward the different coloured tile on the floor that the sargeant had been moving toward. Paldo moved closer to investigate anything that might be a specific spot for the small cylinder to be place in.
Linge Hagebak |
"Maybe these tiles are a clue," Linge suggests, joining Paldo in looking for some kind of keyhole to place the cylinder in.
Perception: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (20) + 10 = 30
Paldo Greenspan |
Paldo steps back as he realizes he was distracted by the crystalline architecture and had already forgot about the searching the tile. He watched in wonder as Linge meticulously searched every nook and crack to find a place.
GM My Black Midnight |
Who is holding the key from the sergeant?
Q5
the tiles have no hole or indent that looks made for a key.
as you near the tiles, a rime of frost spreads on the floor around your feet. ice slowly moves onto your feet. if you stand still it continues to climb up your leg
Linge Hagebak |
I think Linge's still holding the key
As the druidess inspects the tiles, she audibly gasps as frost suddenly creeps over the floor, onto her feet and up her legs! She drops the key as if it had burned her. The glowing tiles are in Q5
"Sorry," she apologizes sheepishly. "It didn't exactly hurt, just- surprised me."
Spellcraft?: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (16) + 6 = 22
GM My Black Midnight |
when Linge drops the key the ice retreats and vanishes in seconds.
the cold was not as biting as might be expected and did no lasting damage.
Linge studies the magic as it happened and thinks about what it might mean. the key triggered the ice to form, but it is not a spell she is familiar with. she can surmise the ice would continue to spread over her, but then what would happen? and why did the sergeant try to do this to themselves?
Linge Hagebak |
"I have no idea what this is supposed to do," she admits. "I can- try to hold on to it for a little longer, if... If you think it'd be useful."
Eladorn |
"While Erastil has blessed me with some of his divinity, I'm by no means even close to an expert in magic and its workings. How about I try this, and those of you with more knowledge observe." He looks around for agreement before adding. "I'm fairly hardy... if this is dangerous, I've got a pretty good chance."
Garran Oakthorn |
”Maybe we should rest after all… We can use the recovery, and if someone does come down here, we can see how it’s done.” Garran shrugs. ”Maybe.”
Linge Hagebak |
"So we walk back to the soldiers's room and barricade ourselves in it?" Linge sighs. "I really don't like the thought of something ambushing us, but... We have little spells left already."
Should Eladorn try to hold the key, and then we get some rest?
Eladorn |
Eladorn holds the offered key and steps near the blue square on the floor. "I'm not sure that I like the idea of camping out here. They have to already know we're here, right? We'd almost certainly just be barricading ourselves in to save our own lives."
GM My Black Midnight |
Eladorn takes a turn with the key. as he steps on the tile, ice forms on his feet then spreads up his legs. if he stands still it continues to climb up his body.
ice continues up over your head. as soon as you are completely encased in ice, it melts very quickly. you are no longer standing in the same place you were a moment ago. you now stand in a dining room with a long curved table. behind you are windows looking out onto the snowy landscape.
in front of the long table are two shallow steps leading to a raised platform where some performers are practicing. two sprites dance and tumble in the air, while a third person plays a harp. the musician is a very familiar looking Forlarren woman, who turns in surprise when you appear
well hello there. where is the rest of your merry little band? Mierul asks with a smile.
ice encases Eladorn, obscuring him from view. then the ice melts quite quickly, but Eladorn is no longer there!
Eladorn |
Garran Oakthorn |
”Eladorn!” Garran watches in dismay as the archer melts away.
GM My Black Midnight |
you are indeed on a matching tile in this new place.
Mierul looks you over
you expect me to believe that you broke in here, beat up all the guards and stole their key all by yourself?
I don't know what your plan is, but you are in way over your head. I don't enjoy fighting, but if you're here to threaten my employer, I will be forced to send you away. alive or dead is kind of up to you
Linge Hagebak |
"I think he got transported somewhere. We should follow him!" Linge whistles for Horn to heel, and bends down in hope that Eladorn dropped the key as he disappeared.
She'll try to stand on the tiles and come with him!
GM My Black Midnight |
Linge steps on the tile but nothign happens. she looks around for the key and finds nothing.
a few moments later a block of ice starts forming again, but not around Linge. she is forced to step back or be lifted up by the rising column of ice.
a few seconds later the ice melts again and Eladorn is standing there, key in hand
Eladorn |
Eladorn steps off the tile. "Well, it's some kind of transport; I teleported to another room in this tower... at least that's where I think it was. You remember that fey bard that stopped by our fire? She was there; she recognized me, and she's got a good idea what's up." He shakes his head unhappily. "I didn't stick around to chat, but I'd expect a welcoming party; she--at least--knows we're here."
Garran Oakthorn |
”Well, we’re stuck with it then. Let’s see if we can get it to carry all of us at once. Hold hands or something.”
Paldo Greenspan |
Paldo watched as shock as Eladorn disappeared before their eyes but was relieved to see him materialize moments later.
"Was it just the Bard you saw Eladorn? Or was there others?"
Paldo looked at Garran "Agreed, we should all try to travel at once." he said extending his hand.
Linge Hagebak |
Linge takes Paldo's hand, looks down at Horn with embarrassment, crouches down a little and attempts to get him to lift his paw.
It takes a while, and he mostly looks confused by the whole thing, but finally the young woman manages to get his left front paw in her right hand.
Taking 10 on a Handle Animal check to get him to give paw? :P
Eladorn |
"There were a couple of sprites, too. They looked like they were practicing for a performance; the sprites were doing acrobatics in the air while that forlarren was playing a harp."
Garran Oakthorn |
Garran sheaths his sword and settles his shield on his back. And gets his backpack if I hadn’t already. Then he grabs a big handful of Horn’s fur, and loose skin around the bear’s neck. But not being too rough.
GM My Black Midnight |
the group holds hands and Eladorn slowly gets back on the tile. even those that can't quite squeeze on to the tiles find ice crawling up their bodies as the magic takes hold.
In moments they are all covered in ice!
second later the ice melts, and you are in another place. you now stand in a dining room with a long curved table. behind you are windows looking out onto the snowy landscape.
in front of the long table are two shallow steps leading to a raised platform where Mierul stands. she does not seem surprised that you all came together this time.
"All by yourself, eh? I suppose this means you aren't going to just leave quietly?
Linge Hagebak |
"If you're working with the Jadwiga... Probably not," Linge squeezes her way to Eladorn, murmuring a spell. She touches his shoulder, conveying some of her remaining magical powers to him.

Mierul and the sprites prepare for a fight
the two tiny fey both go invisible!
Mierul takes up a defensive position, backing up slightly on the stage and holds her hand out. a flaming sword appears in her palm and she gives it a few twirls.
the party may act
Eladorn |
Cat's grace would apply an additional +2 to Eladorn's initiative check; is that enough that he can act before the sprites go invisible?
Eladorn tries to catch them before they can act, firing off two arrows at the sprites. He nudges Shael with an elbow and a not towards the forlarren.

Garran scrambles up onto the table, then readies his shield.

GM My Black Midnight |
yes with a +2 bonus Eladorn would go first
Eladorn quickly fires two arrows before anyone else moves, but both shots go wide of the tiny fey before they vanish
Paldo Greenspan |
Waiting to see if the sprites reappear, Paldo ducks and takes cover behind the large table.
Don't mind me hiding for a bit, getting low on abilities and my sling sucks
Linge Hagebak |
Linge takes a few steps to her left, and murmurs a spell. A bright, white light briefly flashes into Mierul's face.

Horn starts moving to the other end of the wooden table, but doesn't charge into melee yet. He seems wary of the tiny creatures he just saw disappear, and even more so of the flaming sword.

Thanks for your patience with my slowed posting!
Seeing stars, Linge cowers behind Sigrun. She can only channel a bit of energy to give her a bit of a magical help should she go to battle.
Cast Guidance on Sigrun
After Eladorn shoots his arrow, Horn moves slowly towards Mierul, waiting for an opportunity to attack. As she turns her attention to Garran, he suddenly and unexpectedly lunges forward, ready to catch her arm in his powerful maw!

Paldo popped his head up and set his glare towards the bard attacking his friends. He muttered an incantation causing a burst of light in front of Mierul's face.

the group is not here to mess around. Eladorn hits mierul with one arrow, and is immediately followed up by Horn and Garran attacking
Garran's cold iron blade cuts deep, and horn gets a very precise bite on an exposed flank when the forlarren turns to react to the bite of iron. she drops to the ground bleeding out.
the smaller fey are nowhere to be seen.
the party may act. no immediate threat is seen.
Garran Oakthorn |
Garran kneels beside Mierul and tries to staunch her wounds. She had seemed honorable, if misguided. Garran wants to give her another chance.

Linge Hagebak |
"I don't think the other feys have left yet," Linge quietly tells Eladorn. Her eyes squirt the seemingly empty room warily.
Horn lets go of Mierul's wimp arm, and sniffs around for potential threats.
Perception (Horn): 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (13) + 7 = 20
Eladorn |
Eladorn keeps looking around the room--it seems he's trying to keep his eyes on every dark corner, as impossible as that would be. "I think you could be right... but how to know?" he answers Linge.
GM My Black Midnight |
Garran is able to keep the bard from bleeding to death but she is still weakened and unconscious.
Horn sniffs the air. he can tell there are still creatures in the room but is unable to pinpoint them. the tiny fey are very good at staying hidden if they want to.
Eladorn |
1 person marked this as a favorite. |
Scent detects a creature within 30' at which point you can spend a move point to determine the direction. With a planned strategy using both Shael and Horn, we should be able to pinpoint the fey.
Garran Oakthorn |
Once the forlarren is stabilized, Garran stands up to have a better look at his surroundings. He calls on Iomedae’s power to augment his sight. (Detect magic.) Then begins to scan the room, both for magic auras and anything of interest.
Perception: 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (16) + 11 = 27 Edit: And maybe spot a fey, if they rolled really low…
Linge Hagebak |
Horn keeps sniffing around, apparently frustrated by his inability to spot the tiny feys. Then, he hesitantly turns around, as if capable of sort of tell where they are. Spending a move action to detect the direction
Suddenly struck by inspiration, Linge casts a spell in hopes to figure out where they are.

GM My Black Midnight |
Detect magic does reveal that there is magic in range.
there are magical auras coming from the direction of the teleport tiles, and through the walls on both sides of the room. there are 6 auras you can see from where you are, with the strongest being Moderate
the animal companions are moved to try to get a sense of where the fey have gone. it is made more challenging because there are 2 of the, but you can guess the general area that the fey might be in.
i have put the two of them back on the map, but the locations are not exact yet
Linge Hagebak |
Linge focuses on her spell some more, intensifying her search.
"I can feel magical auras, but... I can't quite pinpoint them," she mutters. Can I take 1 more round to detect the strength and location of each aura?
Horn growls, and swats at the air uselessly, sensing the fey but unable to reach it.
Anyone has a splash weapon, or something that might be used to reveal invisible enemies? I've only got ink lol
