Truddig |
Channel energy is normally a 30' radius burst; Truddig is farther than 30' away from the priest (I think). Does he still need to make the save?
Will DC 16: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (10) + 5 = 15 8 damage if channel affects Truddig
Truddig fires of another shot at the priest, sparks of electricity trailing after the arrow as it flies across the room. He continues moving deeper into the room, trying to stay away from the burst of swirling negative energy that the priest sent out.

Truddig, your fine then, I did the math wrong.
The horrible priest attacks, glowing with a furious demonic energy as it attacks Shabah!

as Umberto dodges the creatures fangs, it suprises him by digging it's claws deep into his side under his armor, knicking something that felt rather important. Umberto feels the life poor from his body as the blood spills out.... it almost feels a little like being drunk...
Unfortunatly Umberto, I believe that crit may have been a kill shot, as that puts you at -15 unless you or someone else has something to save you...

Volsung Dreamborn |
Is it possible to take a diagonal 5 ft step to SW into the square which has part of the altar, or would that be considered difficult terrain or squeezing?
Volsung Dreamborn |
Volsung would frantically wave their bubbling rapier at the priest in order to distract the baddie from Umberto.
GM_Starson |
Sorry, but this is one where i differ a little from other GMs who purposefully avoid killing PCs. A creature with half way decent wisdom and intelligence (And this guys in the 20s!) knows that unless a combatant is put down permanently, he's just gonna get back up and be just as dangerous with a quick heal spell. Animals or things without the ability to tell that your just unconscious and not dead may retarget if provoked, but just as a smart PC is gonna make sure that the enemy healer is properly down, so will a smart NPC. That means that if the opportunity presents itself, a smart enemy (Which this guy is) is gonna double tap.
Toral Kargar |
”Umberto, nooooo!!! Noooo! The healer of the reef! You undead without heart!“ Toral shouts.
Toral steps back and casts spiritual weapon on the undead.
Spiritual weapon : 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (20) + 7 = 27

Which square is the spiritual weapon in? I'd like arrange for Volsung to get flanking if possible.
Toral Kargar |
The spiritual weapon cannot flank. :-(
Volsung Dreamborn |

Volsung takes a 5-foot step to the SE.
Will you do me the honor of attacking me now, foul thing?
Rapier To Hit: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (20) + 7 = 27

Toral Kargar |
Volsung, did you know that you can preview your posts? You can then see what you rolled and change the descriptions or already roll confirmation rolls in the initial post. ;-)
Volsung Dreamborn |
I knew about the preview feature, but I'd not thought about using it in the manner you describe. I'll this in mind for my many future criticals!
GM_Starson |
As Umberto is struck down, Alani and Volsung decend on the priest. He's unable to pull his claws free of the downed priest in time, leaving him open to both bullet and blade. With a croaking cackle that fades like wind from trees, the thing slumps onto Volsung's blade, collapsing to the floor.
PATHFINDERS... WIN?
Umberto does not move, and the tomb once again grows silent as the sounds of combat fade.
That monstrosity is NASTY, 25+AC at low level! Good job beating it at all, even if it was with some loss.
Toral Kargar |
Did Toral need to cast spiritual weapon or was it clear that the priest is beaten?
Silence ... nothing but silence can answer the sadness felt when Toral’s eyes fall on Umberto’s body.
Toral shakes his head and tries to stabilise him.
Heal : 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (20) + 9 = 29
He then walks to Shabah.
Heal : 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (16) + 9 = 25
GM, how long does it take until Shabah is not paralysed anymore?
Shabah's Warform |
Shabah stirs as Toral examines them, eyes cast down as they retrieve their wand to get patched up.
"You have my apologies. I should not have been so easily... sidelined."
CLWs: 3d8 + 3 ⇒ (7, 5, 6) + 3 = 21
Volsung Dreamborn |
Volsung smiles at Shabah ...
I see that horror's focus on you as a sign of its respect and fear.
Volsung pulls out their Wand of Cure Light Wounds and approaches Toral ...
Would you be so kind as to apply this to me. I seem to have been burned the creatures emanation of negative energy.
Volsung is down 8 hp.
Toral Kargar |
Volsung, you don't have a wand yet so just roll whenever you are hurt and assume I used it on you - I will deduct the charges.
Volsung Dreamborn |
Volsung, you don't have a wand yet so just roll whenever you are hurt and assume I used it on you - I will deduct the charges.
Actually, Volsung does have such a wand. It's listed under the Gear spoiler on their character description page.
I'll go ahead and roll and deduct charges from their wand.
Wand of CLW: 1d8 + 1 ⇒ (8) + 1 = 9
All healed and one charge deducted.
Truddig |
Truddig, unhurt, is happy to see the faint rise and fall of Umberto's chest after Toral's first aid. "I thought we'd lost him," Truddig chuckles lightly at the end, out of unease perhaps, rather than anything particularly humorous.
He draws a wand out of his belt and applies it to the Caydenite. "That wake you up?" he asks, knowing Umberto could likely call on the Lucky Drunk to do the rest.
cure light wounds: 1d8 + 1 ⇒ (5) + 1 = 6
Umberto Ricci |
Umberto's eyes open slowly as he lets out a groan. He stands up, hooking his mace to a belt loop. He looks down at his tankard, empty. Probably from when he collapsed in a heap. Looks like we made it out alive. Barely. Umberto kicks the corpse of the evil cleric.
He draws a wand and begins healing himself.
GM, are there residual saves from those attacks I need to make?

He replaces the wand and summons ale into his tankard. To the Lucky Drunk! Some luckier than others! and he takes a swig before moving on.
GM_Starson |
Nope, your good. Let me know what you want to do now.
Volsung Dreamborn |
While understanding Umberto's enthusiasm to find any additional survivors, Volsung takes a second to cast detect magic and study the remains of the undead, particularly gold mask element attached to the priest.
Toral Kargar |
Toral starts searching the room in general.
Perception: 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (8) + 11 = 19
Truddig |
Truddig also takes a moment to search through the room, and he pays particular attention to what Volsung uncovers with the priest.

Shabah's Warform |
Shabah insists that Umberto restore himself to full vitality before continuing, offering the use of their wand if necessary.
CLW: 1d8 + 1 ⇒ (3) + 1 = 4
Then they turn their attentions to aiding their companions in the search.
Perception: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (18) + 8 = 26
GM_Starson |
Sorry for the delay guys. A combination of sick and self doubt on GMing had me out for a day or two. I'm back now, and I'll stick to the adage I have on my profile. "I am simply a force of nature. I neither cheat for, or against the adventurers. In Beating me, they prove themselves heroes."
After inspecting the horrid priest, they find that he has been wearing the gold jawbone piece of the mask in place of his own jaw! He also has a kit filled with obsidian scalpels, platinum needles, and other strange instruments that may be worth a lot to a collector (AKA end of mission treasure.)
There is still the direction they had not traveled at the very beginning... dare the team continue in that direction?
Volsung Dreamborn |
Volsung examines the kit of "tools" and looks over at the bodies on the floor.
I suspect these instruments are the products of a very sick mind. I would like to see them destroyed or melted down.
We now have the brow/nose guard and jaw piece of the golden mask. Based upon the iron mask we saw upstairs, is it possible to say what parts of the golden mask we're still missing?
GM_Starson |
It looks like your need one more piece to complete it, basically the cheek plates that the whole thing hinges on.
Edit: Just double checked, you already have the left cheek plate which you found in the room the men where being tortured in, missed it in the treasure description. So you only have to find the right cheek plate to finish the mask.
Toral Kargar |
Thanks a lot GM!!
Then let us continue to the hallway to the unknown areas!
Toral keeps his eyes open!
Perception: 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (19) + 11 = 30
Volsung Dreamborn |
Volsung nods ...
Yes, let's see if we can locate any additional survivors as well as the last part of this mask. It is a most curious item.
Umberto Ricci |
Umberto tugs on his beer again making room for a potion to save for later.
depositing a potion of Protection from Evil in his tankard. If engaged in two-weapon fighting with a light weapon in one hand and a tankard in the other, I can drink a potion from the tankard in place of attacking with it.
GM_Starson |
As the team turns the corner, the wall seems to break away, revealing a black ooze filled with bones and smelling of horrible flesh!
Init Umberto: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (12) + 2 = 14
