GM_Starson |
Volsung does not detect psychic significance on the items, but is also unable to determine what the magic of the belt is.
Shabah's Warform |
"A worthy suggestion, Mr. Ricci. However, I worry that the potential to rescue Ms. Beusophis's colleagues dwindles. Perhaps the archaeological significance of completing the mask could be deferred for not. So long as a path remains before us, let us tread it."
Dunno if anyone else wants to take a whack at identifying the belt, but if not, Shabah's up to wear it. They wouldn't trap a cursed belt, right? ;-)
Volsung Dreamborn |
Volsung follows Shabah to the entrance to the shaft.
I believe is time to descend to see what waits below.
GM_Starson |
As Shabah puts the belt on, they feel a surge of strength! (Belt of Strength +2!)
Iron rungs make the climb down the shaft easy, though it is a long way down. After climbing 30 or 40, the team finds themselves in a pitch black room.
There is no light here, so you only have what you have. I'm assuming somebody has a light spell or a wayfinder, but please say who so I can assign targets... er... i mean light sources!
The ceiling of this chamber is ten feet above, and its walls are covered with fading frescoes depicting a parade of cultists engaged in grisly acts of self-mutilation involving knives, scourges, and more bizarre implements. The depiction of the ground beneath the repugnant pageant seems to be composed of thick, snake-like tentacles whose appendages and tooth-filled orifices lick greedily at the blood cascading down from the cult figures. To the east, debris from a smashed wall is scattered, spilling into the hall.
Volsung Dreamborn |
Volsung looks around at the frescoes and sighs sadly.
I feel a profound sorrow for the minds that venerate these images. Destroying them will be a great mercy.
GM_Starson |
??: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (20) + 8 = 28
As the team steps into the hallway, they have two directions they can go in, north and south. Alani's keen eye's however, spot two hidden doors to the south along the wall, one along the east wall and one against the far south wall. Both could be pushed to spin them, granting access to whatever lies beyond. Choices...
Shabah's Warform |
"Excellent, Ms. Fox. Let's uncover some of these secrets."
Shabah advances towards the closest door, and after a quick inspection, pushes it round.
Perception: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (14) + 8 = 22
Volsung Dreamborn |
Volsung's rapier is out and a few bubbles leisurely float through the air.
Toral Kargar |
Toral also walks behind the Shabah still feeling the wound that he was able to close with magic.
He looks at Truddig and nods.
"You are right! We can be happy that we are dwarfs. Few others have our tough hide! Ha ha ..." he says smiling.
Then he checks his surroundings too.
Perception: 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (7) + 11 = 18
GM_Starson |
This long and narrow chamber contains niches in the walls that hold a number of statues, some of which are humanoid and some of which are clearly demonic. Murals cover the walls depicting human cultists being abused and reshaped by demonic figures. The ceiling of this black stone chamber is barrel-vaulted fifteen feet above.
What is much more pressing however is the screaming. Two voices scream in pain and agony, and the screams don't stop. Tears and sobbing echo through the room as someone else screams. As the team moves into the room, those with darkvision...
Those without darkvision only see 40 feet towards the end of the chamber, where the light fades into darkness.

"There are fiends across this room with the prisoners. The prisoners are gravely injured, but yet alive." Turning to the fiends, Shabah adds, "Release them, and your ends may prove swift."
Truddig |
Truddig has been silent most of the walk. It's unsure if this is a personal stoicism, or if he's been disturbed by the imagery carved and painted all along.
Are we all in the room yet, or only once we can act in initiative?

looks like most of us are out of the room. see map. guessing Alina gets botted today so expect to take a combat turn shortly.

Alani bot moves
Alani swiftly moves in, but without a light to see the enemy at the end, can't do much more.
Meanwhile, the Horrible THINGS hear Shabah loud and clear. They turn and give out gargling hisses as they stand, one of them moving forward and swinging it's Ranseur wide, hissing it's challenge out.

Ransuer: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (15) + 5 = 20
damage: 2d4 + 1 ⇒ (3, 3) + 1 = 7
Unfortunatly, the monster is to far to be reached by mace or rapier, and it's wild charge is enough to bite through Umberto's defenses, leaving a nasty cut across his side.

Move: 20'
Standard: grant thundershot to bow (1 min duration)
At 4th level, a stormwalker can wreathe his weapon in lightning. As a standard action, he can grant a single weapon he holds the shock special ability for 1 minute; while under this effect, the weapon counts as magic for the purpose of overcoming damage reduction. A stormwalker can use this ability a number of times per day equal to 3 + his Wisdom modifier.

Toral and Truddig identify these as wrath sinspawn, twisted monstrosities of the embodiment of the sin of wrath. They are immune to all mind effects, and have a spell resistance to boot. Careful of their bite, which can spread the poison of their sin obsessed madness to you!
Orange rushes forward, slashing it's Ransuer at Volsung!

Hmm... Examining the initiative rolls it looks like I should have gone alongside Truddig and Toral.
Eyeing the wicked ranseurs of the sinspawn, Shabah grits their fanged snout against the pain and advances to deliver a precisely measured chop. Provoking from Green, then striking Green
Falchion (PA): 1d20 + 10 - 1 ⇒ (13) + 10 - 1 = 22
Slashing: 2d4 + 10 + 3 ⇒ (3, 3) + 10 + 3 = 19
Volsung Dreamborn |
Could I have attempted a swashbuckler parry against the sinspawn attack?
I know that I can parry the an attack by a reach weapon (though I can't riposte), and I'm pretty sure that I can attempt a parry (which is essentially an attack of opportunity) while holding a readied action.
Hoping that I can do this...
Spend one of Volsung's five panache points and one of their four AoOs to attempt to parry Orange's attack.
Parry attempt (need to beat a 22): 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (2) + 7 = 9
GM_Starson |
Whoops! Sorry about that!
Shabah grits their teeth and strides forth!
Ransuer: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (17) + 3 = 20
damage: 2d4 + 1 ⇒ (2, 1) + 1 = 4 I assume your AC is the one in parenthesis?
But it just barely misses Shabah as it swings. Now they are up close and personal, and slash at the sinspawn! The blow is devastating, and the sinspawn falls before the cut!
