Ylosani
|
Ylosani steps up to deal with the first real challenge they've faced. He slashes at the machine, caring not if he defeats a construct or a creature.
Katana: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (3) + 8 = 11
Slashing: 1d8 + 3 ⇒ (5) + 3 = 8
| GM XaveTheNerd |
Goblin Reflex: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (8) + 4 = 12
The goblin is smacked across the face with the meteor, and now looks angrily to Avi with a fresh burn mark across its face.
Victor bravely runs away, away.
Ylosani slashes at the machine, but clashes harmlessly against the creature as his blade is deflected.
Initiative Order - The Bold may act. Will bot in 24 hours

Willow
Ji
Clanky
Goblin (4 damage)
Ylosani
Ji Naga
|
Ji launches an arrow at the despised little creature.
Attack: 1d20 + 5 + 2 + 1 ⇒ (15) + 5 + 2 + 1 = 23
Damage: 1d8 + 2 + 2 + 1 ⇒ (8) + 2 + 2 + 1 = 13
"Willow" Saye
|
Willow steps to the side to avoid having her attack blocked by the construct, and flicks her whip at the goblin she assumes is its master.
Attack: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (19) + 6 = 25
Damage: 1d4 + 2 ⇒ (2) + 2 = 4
| GM XaveTheNerd |
Ji's arrow pierces the goblin's skull, and it falls unconscious. Willow, please revise your turn.

I'll just step backwards instead to get the proper range against the construct and use the same attack against it. I'll update the map, the rest should be the same
| GM XaveTheNerd |
The step backwards, due to the rough terrain, causes the creature to get an AoO.
Automaton SMASH: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (5) + 6 = 11 It misses.
Willow's scorpion whip connects with the creature, but some of the damage appears to be resisted.
Clanky has taken 2 damage.
The creature, angered by the death of its master, will step forward (5 foot step. 'cuz reasons. I don't like it just as much as the next guy), and aim for Ji.
Automaton SMASH: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (2) + 6 = 8
The creature swings wide, and Ji easily jumps out of the way.
Initiative Order - Everyone may act.

Avi calls down the rain of fire again, this time on the metal man.
Minute meteors, fire damage to Clanky unless DC15 Reflex made: 1d4 + 1 ⇒ (2) + 1 = 3
Draw light crossbow, move action
Ylosani
|
There is the faintest sign of satisfaction as Ylosani finds himself facing a worthy opponent.
It will go the way of the unworthy, though.
Katana: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (5) + 8 = 13
Slashing: 1d8 + 3 ⇒ (7) + 3 = 10
"Willow" Saye
|
Back to the wall, having no way to utilize her whip at such close quarters, and not trusting her spells against a creature like this, Willow drops her whip and draws her dagger.
Attack (cold iron dagger): 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (1) + 4 = 5
Damage: 1d4 + 1 ⇒ (1) + 1 = 2
Note: AC is now 14 until I pick my whip back up
| GM XaveTheNerd |
Ok. This RNG is NOT happy right now. Goodness!
As Ji leaves, he provokes an AoO.
Automaton SMASH: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (4) + 6 = 10 At least the RNG is bad on my end too!
A flurry of missed attacks bounce of the automaton's skin. Well, all except Ylosani's. It seems to resist a little bit of the damage.
Clanky then, still focused on avenging its master, moves to attack Ji again, provoking an attack from Willow, Ylosani, and Victor (it moves down).
Willow AoO: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (5) + 4 = 9
Ylosani AoO: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (1) + 8 = 9
Victor AoO: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (9) + 4 = 13
Victor damage: 1d10 + 6 ⇒ (8) + 6 = 14 OUCH
Clanky has taken 22 damage. Half health has started.
As Victor's fauchard manages to find its core, the creature begins to whir, smoke, and spark, but still manages to stay up.
It attempts to attack Ji Attack: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (6) + 6 = 12, and misses horribly.
Initiative Order - Everyone may act.

Uh oh, that's a little close!
He puts the crossbow away and again summons the meteors.
Minute meteors, fire damage to Clanky unless DC15 Reflex made: 1d4 + 1 ⇒ (3) + 1 = 4
Ylosani
|
Ylosani's movements become a little less precise and controlled as he misses the machine when it turns its back on him and moves away. It comes right within his range again, though and he aims to redeem himself by aiming at a vital part of the creature.
Katana: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (18) + 8 = 26
Slashing: 1d8 + 3 ⇒ (8) + 3 = 11
Crit?: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (9) + 8 = 17
Crit Damagage: 1d8 + 3 ⇒ (6) + 3 = 9
He can feel with satisfaction just how accurate that strike is when it hits.
| GM XaveTheNerd |
Ylosani TEARS into the creature, cleaving it in two as it begins to shatter, preventing the explosion from dealing any major damage to anybody (whew).
Out of initiative.
What now?
Avi Solrem
|
With clanky disabled, Avi takes a minute to look over all the desks in the room and see if there is anything of interest...
Perception: 1d20 ⇒ 15
"Willow" Saye
|
Out of breath and a little unsettled from such close combat, Willow sheathes her dagger, retrieves her whip from where she dropped it on the floor, and joins Avi in looking through the room.
Perception (aid another): 1d20 ⇒ 15
Ylosani
|
If Ylosani is pleased, or even satisfied by taking out their most challenging opponent to date, he shows no outward sign. He simply takes a moment to ensure it does not rise again and another to ensure that there are no other immediate threats.
Then, while the others search, he moves to the next door, taking up a readied stance and waiting for them to join him.
| GM XaveTheNerd |
The room appears to have nothing of true value, as if the automaton here was created out of pure luck. The goblin has nothing of worth on him aside from a wand.
(and, because there isn't combat in the next room:)
Ylosani opens the door after the party reassembles, finding nothing more than loose glass in the room. It appears the cave in to the southwest may have been another entry point to the ruins. (upon reading after prepping the beginning, you could have received a perception check at the beginning to find this way in. Darn sneaky sidebars. Sorry.)
Where to?
Avi Solrem
|
Spellcraft, DC16: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (2) + 4 = 6
Avi, seeming like he can be bothered with a scroll that is of arcane origin, quickly dismisses it with hmm, ask me again about this one tomorrow.
After giving up on his search of the lab he moves into the next room, following Victor but keeping his back cautiously to the wall.
"Willow" Saye
|
Willow takes her usual placement behind Ylosani.
"So far this place seems pretty high risk, low reward. Let's keep moving and hope we find something more interesting ahead."
| GM XaveTheNerd |
A plush, human-sized bed stands in this chamber, along with a table holding a bone scroll tube and jars filled with eyeballs, claws, and teeth. Various automaton parts lie scattered around.
What do you do? Nothing immediately jumps out to stab you (which, arguably, feels quite odd)
Avi Solrem
|
Avi muses, Hmm, there has to be something to this bed.
He places his head in his hands as he focuses his mind's arcane eye on the bed...
Cast detect magic, scanning the bed for auras
| GM XaveTheNerd |
The bed does not have an aura, but the bone scroll tube contains something with an aura.
Victor and Ji find nothing in the room of value. Aside from the contents of the bone scroll tube.
Avi Solrem
|
As Avi scans the room he finds nothing interesting of the bed itself, but comes to focus on the scroll case for some time...
There is something magical on this scroll case, but it is not simply a spell. Alas, I do not have the knowledge to identify the aura.
spellcraft only, no arcana here.
| GM XaveTheNerd |
Ji opens the door to a stairway that heads upwards. It appears MOSTLY intact, and, in fact, is free of most of the debris.
Map updated. What next?
| GM XaveTheNerd |
Everybody please update your positions. Victor just triggered a combat. Please honestly answer the question, where would you have been given the previous actions.
Avi Solrem
|
in position. avi would have been just back outside of the door to the room with the bed. he's been hanging towards the back the whole time and wouldn't yet have a reason to change that behavior. and with that honestly, he might be taking a double move when combat begins :)
"Willow" Saye
|
In position. Willow has been trying to be a couple steps behind anyone that opens a door, and with two being opened she'd be pretty equally centered between the two.
| GM XaveTheNerd |
Victor throws open the door, expecting another bedroom. He finds a "bedroom" full of straw "beds", and three sets of goblin eyes peer back. Unafraid, they each begin some kind of crappy sounding war chant. It's a shame they aren't even singing the same one.
Willow: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (15) + 4 = 19
Ji: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (18) + 6 = 24

Avi moves up to the next door as quickly as he can in this place.

That's definitely my last post before this trip.

Both Avi and Ji approach the doorway to the room.
Initiative order - the BOLD may act (will bot in approximately 24 hours)
