Looks neat to me, Tavarokk.

Also, progress has been made on the maps and such, so I'm pleased.

Overall, I'm incredibly impressed with the number and quality of apps so far, and do not envy my future self the choice that I'll have to make.

I just hope that Atsuii's origin is not relevant for the AP given that I've appropriated her for my background.

Without getting into spoilers, I can say that what you've done with her is perfectly fine.

A new page has come, and therefore, a new list!

Also, campaign trait-wise, we have three submissions with Best Friend, three with Friend of the Family, two with Childhood Crush, four with younger sibling (none of whom are Sandru or Shalelu, which is amusing), one Student Survivalist, two Rescued, one Caravan Guard, and one Foster Child.

Koya's surprisingly popular, and no one's chosen Childhood Crush Ameiko or Sandru, which also amuses me.

Just because we don't take the trait doesn't mean we can't also have a crush on Ameiko or Sandru. Or both! :)

Very true - there are a few submissions that have mentioned that, even without the trait. I'm just amused by the seeming lack of love for them.

the Crush thing can get a little slashfic-like, I think, and people shy away from that. (see: Seoni, Meresiel...)

I'm down for intertwined backgrounds, although probably it's best to do that once people are selected. :)

Also just realized a typo in my own submission: Mick is of the Enchantment School, not Abjuration!

Sandru is my best friend! :P The lack of love for Ameiko does surprise me, I feel like whenever I see a recruitment or hear about a Rise of the Runelords story in Sandpoint it always seems to mention a love for Ameiko!

I've got a question in regards to my Oni-spawn tiefling idea. Would you be ok with an alternate version of the Pass for Human alternate racial trait, namely Pass for Half Orc?
I care less about the typing change and more about the no disguise needed part.

In addition, would you be ok with trading away the spell-like ability for the Maw part of the Maw or Claw trait in that case? Normally that wouldn't work with Pass for Human but bite attacks already are a thing for Half Orcs.
If that's too much, how about the alternate abilities from the rolling table from Blood of Fiends?

I'm asking this because of the idea I have in which my character isn't even aware it is a Tiefling. As far as my character knows they are a Half Orc, or quarter Orc strictly speaking. Having a spell-like ability would cause some issues with not knowing.
The father would be a Shoanti Half Orc that moved to Kaer Maga since then, unable to handle the quiet life in Nybor, a town east of Sandpoint known for the large number of half bloods living there. The Oni taint would come from his side. The mother would be Isa Korvut, younger sister to Sandpoint's grumpy smith, Das Korvut. My character would have ended up in Sandpoint as their uncle's apprentice, mostly because their mother wanted them away from the house for a while as my character clashed with it's new stepfather.

EDIT: Only the basis for the background, further connections are still to be constructed. All I'm sure of beyond this is that my character works as a bouncer at the Rusty Dragon on busy nights. My char would be close to Ameiko, just haven't decided what form it takes.

Pass for Half-Orc would be fine with me, yeah, as would the Maw thing. I think it would make sense, in some ways. On the other hand, alter self is the normal spell-like ability for oni-spawn, so you could style it as him not being aware he has that ability until he manifests it in a moment of stress, or the like.

That said, would he still have the Infernal/Abyssal language? From what Blood of Fiends indicates, if I recall rightly, the language manifests itself during adolescence, such as it is. Oh, Pass for Human Half-Orc mentions that the tiefling doesn't get that by default, so never mind.

Anyways, I'm fine with both of those. You could also roll, if you wanted.

With my (slowly approaching completion) submission going to be a wayang, any of the ‘crush’ traits seemed hard to fit in. I mean, I guess romance is still possible between small and medium characters (heck, there’s a Pathfinder Tales trilogy which prominently features a romance between a human and a naga), but it just seems like a human or elf wouldn’t be his type. Too bad none of the prominent NPCs are a halfling or gnome. Then again, who knows what might develop in time?

Exciting ideas! Looking forward to Wednesday.

For sure, can't wait to find out if I make the cut, fingers crossed :)

Ancestor's Blade You were trained by your family with a weapon passed down from a venerable ancestor. You begin play with an heirloom masterwork weapon worth up to 400 gp. You gain a +1 trait bonus on attack rolls with weapons of this type (not just your initial heirloom weapon) when you smite evil.
Younger Sibling (Ameiko) You’ve lived your whole life in the shadow of your older sibling, a person who seems to have the adventure-filled lifestyle you’ve always wanted for yourself. While your sibling always took care of you, he or she never supported your desire to become an adventurer—your sibling never explained why, only saying, “Adventuring can cause a lot of pain just as easily as it can bring success and riches.” As a younger sibling to one of Sandpoint’s more influential citizens, you share some of that NPC’s innate talent and skill at adventuring. If you’re Ameiko’s younger sibling, your ferocious independence and self-confidence give you a +1 trait bonus on Will saving throws.
Aura of Good The power of a paladin’s aura of good (see the detect good spell) is equal to her paladin level.
Detect Evil At will, a paladin can use detect evil, as the spell. A paladin can, as a move action, concentrate on a single item or individual within 60 feet and determine if it is evil, learning the strength of its aura as if having studied it for 3 rounds. While focusing on one individual or object, the paladin does not detect evil in any other object or individual within range.
Bravo’s Smite / Smite Evil Once per day, a paladin can call out to the powers of good to aid her in her struggle against evil. As a swift action, the paladin chooses one target within sight to smite. If this target is evil, the paladin adds her Cha bonus (if any) to her attack rolls and adds her paladin level to all damage rolls made against the target of her smite. If the target of smite evil is an outsider with the evil subtype, an evil-aligned dragon, or an undead creature, the bonus to damage on the first successful attack increases to 2 points of damage per level the paladin possesses. Regardless of the target, smite evil attacks automatically bypass any DR the creature might possess.
Bravo’s Finesse A virtuous bravo can use her Dexterity modifier instead of her Strength modifier on attack rolls with light or one-handed piercing melee weapons (though if she carries a shield, she applies its armor check penalty to such attack rolls), and she can use her Charisma score in place of her Intelligence score to meet prerequisites of combat feats. This ability counts as having the Weapon Finesse feat for the purpose of meeting feat prerequisites.

BACKGROUND
=================================================
Tay is Ameiko's much younger brother. He was still a child when their parents passed. Since Ameiko was busy running the inn, his education came from books and the local church that schooled him. The family library was surprisingly extensive, filled with old books about Tian traditions and history. And Tay loves reading. He learned it early, first from his father, later from his older sister and he spent days not leaving the library, dreaming of Tian gods and heroes. The Sandpoint clergy on the other hand taught him the way of the priest and the values of a righteous citizen. But while the local faiths of Erastil and Abadar agreed somewhat with him, he secretely felt a much stronger connection to the somewhat mythical faiths of his ancestors. On this topic he also strongly disagreed with his older sister who lived a very liberal life somewhat following Desna's ideas. She also disregarded their aristocratic status, which Tay didn't take likely. In his opinion it's her duty as the eldest remaining to carry on the noble title. But since she wouldn't he will.
She even ran away for a while adventuring. Something he had very mixed feelings about. On the one hand he felt she was totally abandoning her family and her duties as the first-born. On the other hand he had to admit that travel can provide very valuable lessons. Lessons that he needs to make, too, at some point. But she barred him from leaving claiming it's too dangerous. Furthermore he believed that traveling is an important part of their heritage. After all, their ancestors came to this place from far away Tian.
Another family tradition is much more tangible. A very old heirloom sword, a Katana passed down for generations. He has been training sword fighting since he started understanding Shiziru's teachings: An old leather book about family, loyalty and honor, including honor on the battle field and towards your enemy.
Tay is not strong, but has quick reflexes and handles the sword with utmost precision. He sometimes helps out the town guard and is liked by most of Sandpoint's citizens, because he is so well-mannered and reliable. The rest looks at him with pitty, for his ascetic and his strict life style. He doesn't have many true friends to fool around with, but you can often find him in a tavern and start a religious debate. Except, of course, for the Rusty Dragon, he is rarely seen there. And if he is, he keeps quiet to not accidentally start an argument with his sister. It would be most dishonorable to disagree with the family eldest.

Ooh, neat. Just one minor, itsy-bitsy thing that has to do with reasons.

Nothing Major:

The thing is, at the start of the AP, the Kaijitsu family is not in possession of its ancestral katana. Now, Tay likely doesn't know about that, and I would say you can keep the trait, but know that the blade itself is a relatively recent construction.

Also, Lonjiku would probably have educated him in Tien or possibly Minkaian rather than Varisian, because Lonjiku was a stuck-up, arrogant old man, so you could take that language rather than Varisian if you were so inclined.

Edited my profile to add the background and a character development plan (healing and support abilities come online at level 2).

If I am selected, I would like to look into the Pei Zin Practitioner archetype for the Oracle which I believe has some nice flavour for the setting, but not take it with the first level of Oracle. Instead, would like it to develop organically as we reach the Far East lands and Lor-Sin is exposed to local medical practices. Her upcoming Oracle curses would also be nice to weave into the story and roleplay out.

Depending on how you want to handle that, I'd be okay with it. Seems interesting.

Just know that you won't reach Tian Xia until about halfway through the Adventure Path - 'tis a long journey from one end of Golarion to the other.

The cultures' influence, however, can be felt early on in the AP, so that might be when she starts engaging with them.

oh hai, Kittenmancer! Kitten is in my Reign of Winter campaign that I'm GM'ing. Good player. You can take two healers, right, GM? :D

Haha. Sure, if their backstories are both ones I'd like to include!

I wonder how many siblings Ameiko will stand to have by Wednesday, myself. Didn't expect that particular trait to be so popular back when I started assembling the character.

Here's my (Tilnar's) submission -- I'm recycling an older alias, so the avatar pick doesn't match at all. And I'm still debating the level 1 feat, but that's a pretty minor mechanical thing.

NG Half-Elven Druid (Nature Fang) - built more as a secondary combattant/caster.

Tavarokk wrote:

Ameiko currently has five younger siblings - two half-siblings, a cousin, and two full-blooded siblings... Eesh. xD

Alasdair looks pretty interesting. It's gonna be a hard thing to decide who is gonna be a part of the game.

I was briefly considering doing two tables, but I'm not entirely sure I could handle it, so I'm going to stick with one.

It looks like the other campaign has started up again so I'm officially NOT applying for this one :-).

Good luck everybody. From what little I've seen of it so far this is a great Adventure Path

Excellent, good luck on your own journey!

Yeah, the field is pretty crowded with Kaijitsus. I can submit an alternate backstory, basically a riff on what is there, if that is something that you would be interested in Second GM. Later today I plan on adding a bit about build plan and expected party roles anyways.

On an unrelated note, how much in terms of culture and customs does Minkai share with medieval Japan? The reverse naming scheme is explicitly mentioned in the gazetteer, but I'm wondering if I also should bring out the suffixes and the like ^_^

You don't have to change anything, unless you want to. It's up to you, ultimately.

There's a fair few parallels, and suffixes can be included, but they're explicitly Minkaian, rather than Tien, which is what most of the Kaijitsu family speak. It's a bit nonsensical, in my opinion, given that they're Minkaian refugees, but the canonical Kaijitsus all know Tien, but not Minkaian, to my knowledge.

Mind, I am in a bit of a position to change that, but I suspect it's the result of Lonjiku, who didn't know the homeland, studying what he could and getting the language wrong. xD

Ok Pike's background updated. I made some assumptions about where Koya was from before Sandpoint (Magnimar) and figured that she didn't start caravaning until she was at least 20 or so. Please let me know if I'm wrong! I don't see a lot of info on her.

Pending any changes due to Koya or suggestions from you, my submission is complete and ready for review.

Well if it'd make it more likely I'd get to play I'd gladly do so. I like it as it is, but I'm not so tied to it that I couldn't move things around a bit.

BTW I included the update on the planned build and such for anyone who's interested. I know I've seen quite a few builds that this would pair well with and I've been enjoying reading through the submissions. (Though a part of me cries a little every time the list grows longer lol.)

Kaede would gladly teach Ameiko if she's interested. And also poke fun in a suitably roundabout manner about her not speaking Minkaian before.

Koya's a native nomadic Varisian - sorry not to mention it. She's always lived in the vicinity of Sandpoint, even before Sandpoint was a thing, and one of the negotiated factors in creating Sandpoint was making a large manse for Koya's mother, Madame Niska Mvashti, in the town (in addition to including Desna in the Sandpoint Chapel - and then Cathedral), so that all the local Varisians could come to visit her on a regular basis - and because Niska was elderly even then.

I can't comment on whether or not it'll make it more likely or not, because I haven't made my decision yet. There's more to it than that, including not wanting to unduly influence the submissions of others, but that's part of it, at least. xD

That said, I understand the crying inside - I do it more and more nowadays. xD

Minor thing, but Defender of the Society has to do with the Pathfinder Society, and is otherwise a fairly potent trait. I'm somewhat wary of letting it through without Ol' Pike having been a member of the Society.

Beyond that and the above, it looks good.

Honestly, the number of people on this list is kinda small compared to some of the others where I have thrown my hat into the ring.

I really don't understand how so many GMs build a single table out of, say, 35 applicants. You get 6 characters that are slight variations on a single build, through different classes. How do you select one of them, or more, or even pass all of them by for something completely different?

Do you worry about balancing the table compared to the written material, or do you just pick what feels good and either modify the material or let things happen how they will?

Ah thanks! Will adjust today. Is this info in the wikis somewhere and I'm missing it? The wikis I'd found on Koya so far have less info than the player's guide...

I'm totally fine with changing it something else. The trait is definitely the one that is least tied to the character. I don't see Pike working with the Society at some point. I just wasn't that familiar with the trait's meaning since the pfsrd was very brief.

Eesh, I'm glad, in retrospect, that I'm not that popular, 'cause that sounds like a hell of a difficult decision process.

Nah, it's from a variety of sources, including the first book of the AP: The Brinewall Legacy, as well as Sandpoint, Light of the Lost Coast, and a few other places I'm probably forgetting. Mostly those two, though.

Yeah, I had to do some thorough checking to see what it was from, and it's from the Faction Guide, where it's the Society. It's up to you what other trait you choose, though - heaven knows there's plenty to choose from!

Hopefully there's nothing in Alasdair's backstory that doesn't jive with things in those other books... I really only have the player's guide and knowledge from Book 1 of Runelords to work from.

I understand the above, even if I don't like it :)

Second GM, is there any information about Sandru's parents? I'm thinking I'll put together an alternate story that makes Cael his brother, but since I don't really know much about him and his family other than they are Sczarni and I'd like to put together something that makes sense.

You're fine. I would've brought it up had anything especially clashed.

Sandru Information:
Sandru's parents died in a flood in 4687, when he was 7, and his younger brother Alder was two. Jubrayl, their oldest brother, joined the Sczarni, as he was old enough to strike out on his own. The two younger brothers joined Koya as her adopted sons, and Sandru became a caravan guard when he grew up, while Alder became a priest of Shelyn. The two of them eventually joined up with Ameiko - when Sandru was 26 - to form an adventuring group, wherein Alder died, and the other two returned to Sandpoint incredibly wealthy. Sandru left Sandpoint at that point, becoming a caravan leader, which is more or less where he remains to this day.

Hopefully that helps. Also, remember that siblings can be adopted, too.

Ok I think I'll take affable then. Pike's a pretty good-natured fellow when people aren't being horrible. I would have liked to take one of the +1 will save traits as Pike's also quite stubborn and will saves are what's most likely to take me out of the fight. But I don't know of one that fits well with his fairly irreligious nature.

OK I have completed an alternate backstory that I think could be pretty good. Let me know if any of that doesn't mesh properly with the timing of events or such. I tried to leave it deliberately vague on such thing to allow it to be adjusted easily.

Looks decent to me.

I had another quick question, can a character that started with a drawback later take the additional traits feat and instead of gaining 2 traits erase their drawback and take a single additional trait. For some traits idk if this would make sense, but I know for Cael this would represent him losing the naivete of his youth as he grows.

That would seem to make sense to me.

After some more thought I decided to make my character a regular Half Orc instead of the Tiefling. The reason being that the background became to complicated and had way too many moving part. So instead I grabbed the parts of the background I liked best (Niece and former apprentice of Das Korvut, grew up in Nybor, Half Shoanti - Half Orc dad, close friend of Ameiko, part-time bouncer at her inn, nicknamed Yoji by Ameiko (as in Yojimbo, the Minkaian/Japanese word for bodyguard or bouncer)).

Now I just need to decide whether to go for the Fighter (Varisian Free-Style)/ Samurai (Ironbound Sword) combination I mentioned before or for a Butterfly Blade Slayer.
Either way, it'll be an intimidate build that is very good at dishing out non-lethal damage.

That's a shame, but makes sense. Sounds otherwise good!

I really liked the Tiefling idea but my initial concept would have been another Kaijitsu but there are plenty of those already. Then I read through the Sandpoint book and just really liked the character of Das Korvut and his red mastiffs so ended up wanting to tie my character to him somehow in addition to the campaign NPCs.

I think I'll give it another night to think over. I may have another idea.

A bit of a story spoiler:
I played this AP once before up until just inside Brinewall castle and am using what I know to build my chars background. It obviously would not be character knowledge at that would ruin things.

That said, I had the timeline of the original events there all wrong. Now knowing the correct timeline I might have another idea.

The other concept would be for my character to not be Das's niece but his cousin. In this case the Oni taint would actually come from the fact that her mother, Das's aunt, worked at Brinewall when the original event took place. She would have escaped but was and still is too traumatized to talk about it.

alternate ability rolls in case I decide to go with Tiefling anyway:
1d100 ⇒ 100
1d100 ⇒ 34
1d100 ⇒ 22

I'm not at all familiar with the adventure path, so let me know if Zvetlana's father's history could be changed to make her more integrated into the story. Of course I'm perfectly willing to make modifications after Zvetlana is accepted-- if she is accepted-- as you think best.

Both of those are acceptable to me, in my opinion. Whichever you prefer. :D

There's some possibility that she could be more easily tied into the setting, but I think she's fine as she is. Her father's background being blank lets me use it as a big old hook, if need be.

Didn't get a chance to update background tonight bc my phone doesn't allow me to edit profiles (I've tried rotating it). Thought I'd have a little more computer access today but no biggie. Tomorrow.

I'll be submitting Kage Kurai, Wayang Unchained Rogue(Shadow Walker). Specialist in stealth, darkness, trap disabling, and stabbing people in the back. Might eventually go into Shadow Dancer, but probably not. Background is in the alias, but the short version is that his family are the last remnants of a ninja clan that fled Minkai long ago, and he moved to Sandpoint to investigate the Late Unpleasantness in 4702, but stayed because he likes the town. He really hates goblins though(mostly because the ignorant sometimes confuse him for one), so he's working with Shalelu to become better at killing them (pursuant to the variant campaign trait I asked about earlier).
