Etheric Tether Andani can sacrifice any number of hit points to prevent the same amount of damage to Niska, but only if an attack would send her back to the Astral Plane. Niska can travel up to 50 feet away from Andani. If she travels farther, he must succeed a concentration check (DC = 10 + 1 per 10 feet between them) as a full-round action each round or Niska transports to the Ethereal Plane and cannot return for 24 hours. If Niska is outside Andani’s line of effect for longer than 1 round, she returns to the Ethereal Plane.
Friend of the Family Your family has been close friends with the Mvashtis for as long as you’ve been alive. Old Niska Mvashti’s recent death wasn’t all that unexpected—she must have been over a hundred years old, as far as you know—but it was a sobering moment nonetheless. What no one else in your family knows, though, is that in the weeks before her death, Niska must have known that her days were numbered, because she called you to her house one day and made you make a promise: If her daughter Koya ever went on a long trip, you would go with
her to ensure her safety. Although the chances of Koya going on a long trip seem remote (she must be at least 60 years old, after all), you’ve made a promise to Niska to accompany her daughter if such an event comes to pass.
Ever since you made this promise, you’ve felt a strange sense of destiny looming in your future—you might even think that Niska is now watching over your shoulder, just as she asked you to watch over her daughter. As a result of this eerie sense of being watched over, you’ve been able to react to dangerous situations more quickly than ever. As long as Koya remains alive, you gain a +1 trait bonus on Perception checks, and Perception becomes a class skill for you. In addition, you gain a +1 trait bonus on all attack rolls against foes that threaten Koya.
Phantom Andani’s phantom, Niska Mvashti, may dwell inside his mind, or manifest fully as an incorporeal or ectoplasmic creature with a 1-minute ritual. When Niska manifests as ectoplasmic creature, she may interact with the material world and gains DR 5/slashing. When she manifests as an incorporeal creature, she gains the incorporeal ability (making her immune to physical attacks, and reducing damage from magical attacks by half) and can attack incorporeal creatures, but cannot affect material creatures. Shared Consciousness When Niska isn’t manifested, Andani gains a +4 bonus on saving throws against mind-affecting effects and gains the following bonus feats: Skill Focus (Diplomacy), Skill Focus (Heal); these grant him a +3 bonus on Diplomacy and Sense Motive checks. Once per day, he can reroll a failed saving throw against a mind-affecting effect, but doing so removes his other shared consciousness bonuses for the spell’s durations.
Trustworthy Andani gains a +1 bonus on Bluff skill checks to fool others and a +1 bonus on Diplomacy checks. Diplomacy is a class skill for him.
Background:
Andani cannot remember a time in his life without Niska Mvashti. As soon as he could walk, he was toddling around Mvashti’s house, fetching anything the elderly matron called for. Andani’s father had been toting hot teapots for Mistress Mvashti for years, and the boy grew up hearing stories of traveling across the lands of the Inner Sea.
As he grew older, Andani took over more and more responsibility around Mvashti’s household. Eventually, his father retired, complaining of achy joints, and Andani took over as the Mistress’s valet, housekeeper, and personal bodyguard. He became well-known to all of the shopkeepers of Sandpoint as Mvashti sent him hither and yon throughout town on her errands, and he explored the nearby woodlands for the special herbs that went into her teas.
While Niska Mvashti always seemed eternal to Andani, it became clear in the last few months that her health was waning. Andani reassured her that she was worrying about nothing when she called him aside and extracted a promise from him to protect her daughter should she leave on a journey. Though the old mistress’s passing was no surprise, it still deeply saddened Andani and his family. He’s been at loose ends ever since, and with no sign that Koya will be going on a journey anytime soon, Andani is eager to make himself useful around the village. He has the sneaking suspicion that Niska Mvashti is still watching over him, and he can almost hear her voice at times, though it seems likely, having spent so much time with her, that she it just the voice of his inner monologue.

SPECIAL ABILITIES Benevolent: When the phantom uses the aid another action, the bonus granted by a successful check increases by 1. If the phantom aids the spiritualist this way, the bonus instead increases by 2.
Opening Strike (Su) As a standard action, the phantom can make a melee attack against a foe. If this attack hits, the spiritualist designates one ally threatening that enemy. This ally can make a single attack at his full base attack bonus against that enemy as an immediate action.
