I apologize but I have mislaid Piotr's health it seems. He just got hit with 37. Scrolling back through he got hit with 15, but Winter healed him for 15, but looking back I might have misunderstood. Maybe he took 30 and was healed 15 and ended up taking 15?

If so, yep he is out, since he seems to be down 4 (I'll hunt down the four later today after work), Ann would go with him, I'd assume, unless the rules of this world is different.

Looking back I think you're right. For some reason I saw one of the attack rolls as damage, I thought you just took over 70. Hmm... I will still cast spiked pit but I'll just move it to get some of the mooks.

I'm confused. So the thing to Piotr's right is the captain that stabbed him. So for both Piotr and Ann to attack they need to take those two spots that are open. But we can't cause Rose needs to attack as well?

Ann probably can step to Piotr’s space (she doesn’t block Rose? —I say risk it, and let Mort tell us her call).

Piotr can go north one and not block Rose. I think I just need that straight line.

Yeah, Rose gets 4 attacks, but any movement greater than a 5’ step means 1 attack. (Granted, only 2 of them hit. I’ve been rolling mostly single digits this whole battle!)

Rose has the compression special ability from her Malleable Flesh vigilante talent so can compress down to a single square if needed. Ann still provides soft cover if she stands in front of Rose when she attacks, cover doesn't make an exception for incorporeal creatures. You can flavor this increased AC however you like. Can't see the target, Ann's natural deflection field throws Rose off, etc.

So my suggestion is Piotr attacks and moves, Rose attacks, then Ann moves in and attacks.

You can make your full attacks, Piotr. Ann needs to become corporeal(some action on your part, Piotr?) Before she can harm anything that isn't incorporeal, so point is moot.

Ann can step into Piotr's space without causing cover issues.

Compression is awesome! So I can have the benefit (well, and DEX penalties) of Enlarge, including 10 foot reach, but can opt to take one square?

Can I also share a square as if tiny when not enlarged? (I gotta look up the rules on compression, but I think it’s 2 size categories. Maybe that’s squeezing.)

Wasn't sure if that would work across the boat's edge. DC is 18 with a +2 bonus. If you like living dangerously haste does give you another +1.

The +2 bonus and haste bring my reflex save to +17… but enlarge knocks me down to +16, so if I roll a 1, I fall in!

@Mort Yes I know. I'm guessing that you interpret that glitterdust blindness and de-invisibility only happens after the spell is cast and not on subsequent rounds. People interpret it both ways.

My intent is to give the remaining two dudes a bad choice between a spiked pit and blindness effect. If you rule that glitterdust is only really effective on the moment it's castn effectively making it and instantaneous spell with a effect duration, please move me into a position where I will glitter bomb both of them.

I would still only provoke once in any case.

Wow… AC > 25 then… not sure I can hit this guy, even with four attacks with no penalties!

Is d20+11 low for this level? It might make sense to retrain if I can, swapping out Cornugon Smash (and Hurtful) for Arcane Strike. Take ‘Em Alive also adds to atk/dmg, but I think there are too many immune-to-nonlethal foes in this AP to make use of that.

To have both Arcane Strike and Hurtful/Smash is just a waste of feats since I can only use one at a time and in retrospect, Arcane Strike is better AND is one feat instead of two.

He is a Magus who had time to buff himself. It is normal that he has an high AC Rose. No need to overthink it IMO, but why don't you try to trip or grapple him instead? Personally I think it is more useful to have alternative 'attack modes' then simply stacking more and more bonuses to hit/dam.

BTW, man I love maguses... :D

That would be the other benefit of a retrain. Hurtful & Smash out, Arcane Strike + Imp Trip. If I could do that over the next two levels, that might be a bigger help than what I’m doing now. (High DEX, so definitely better off with trip… I think.)

For comparison the game would expect a two weapon fighter to be at +11/+11/+5 without any buffs. With haste and bless they would be at +13/+13/+13/+7, enlarge is a wash for a str fighter, but a dex fighter goes down to +11/+11/+11/+5. I should probably cast reduce person not enlarge person on you.

This is a boss fight so it should be difficult. And you do hit 25% of the time, its not like you're crit fishing. We know it's AC is 26 since you hit, on a 26 here.

You could bull rush it into the pit. But high AC also typically means high CMD.

I think you are focusing too much on optimization and this specific fight, but I already said that.

I actually think tripping loses efficiency the higher level you get (because opponent’s CMD usually climbs fast), unless you keep up with a plethora of feats to boost it. So take that also into consideration.

In any case, it is your character, so up to you and Mort ;)

We've also had a lot of opponents who are immune to trip, 2 incorporeal, 1 ooze. I was planning on doing the occasional trip but haven't had the opportunity yet. This combat was the first one but it's a serious enough fight that I've just been dumping spells.

Spellbook No one else can really use it and it doesn't sell for a great amount.
Scroll of See Invisibility Selling this would gain the same amount of gold that I would spend on scribing it from someone else.
Scroll of Dismissal The DC will be crap on the scroll, better for me to cast it after I've copied it to my spellbook.

On the processed page I'm taking the scroll of fox's cunning that is just hanging out in a bag of holding.

The total value of these items are: 1870. Feel free to deduct from my cut of future loot. I just don't want these items to be sold off when I'm thirsty for spells to copy.

At higher levels a lot of things fly(which makes trip useless),or are huge/have multiple legs which makes tripping hard/next to impossible. The only stuff that scales from optimization standpoint would be dirty trick to blind(esp if you have a rogue in party) or grapple/pin/tie up cdg combo which can be a boss killer. Provided they don't have freedom of movement (but again there are tetori monks).

More single digit rolls that we really don’t need. I don’t think this captain is *that* difficult, but I am consistently rolling below 10 two or three times a round!

@Mort, without a retrain, I can get Arcane Strike next level. (If I take shield of blades as my vigilante talent.)

Would I be able to retrain, dropping smash and hurtful to free up two feats (eventually)? I’m not quite sure how that works.

@GM can I cast mnemonic enhancer before I rest and get the extra slots for most of the day and the 4th level slots back?

My short list for new spells are mnemonic enhancer (if it works as described above), ddoor, and shadow conjuration. I can't decide.
