I'm really happy to continue the group, no matter the system or campaign. I know running PF2 up through the playtest to release has been confusing at times. If the system is causing drag, then I don't mind switching up.

This has actually really helped me learn 2e. I'm kind of burned out on 1e. I played the crap out of it and I need a few years to let the bitter wash away. So much power gaming.

Heh, yeah I totally get that too. Using PF2 has been a kinda refreshing -- confusing at times with the new rules, but I appreciate the relative simplicity.

Sounds like we just continue as we are for now. I'll need some direction in-game.

Sounds good. I'm cool with that :)

  • Looking at the sheet, I've added everything to sale that I think we should sell. Left things in red that need to be either claimed or sold.

There are 14 healing potions: recommend Rodi and Mikos take 4 and Ben and Keg take 3.

    Cheetah elixirs: Keg and Rodi?

    M Human (Rostlander) Fighter 4; AC 21, HP 29/52 wounded 1; spot +9

Wasn't there something funky about the labels of the cheetah potions? Might want to get someone to check them again to figure out what that's about first. Otherwise, looks good.

Oh yeah, the "cheetah" elixirs are poison.

    M Human (Rostlander) Fighter 4; AC 21, HP 29/52 wounded 1; spot +9

    ah, don't drink those :P

Mikos splits the selling errands with Keg and attempt to make short work of liquidating the loot.

Apologies for my lateness. Work has been busy recently. Rodi will buy replacement picks (3 sp) and a repair kit for 2 gp. Otherwise he will donate his portion back to the party, since he's rocking a magic rapier and magic armor. I think that's more than enough for him.

  • So, I've been reading up on crafting.

The Keg is going to buy a +1 armor potency rune formula (8g), a +1 weapon potency formula (2g) and a basic crafter's book as well (1sp). With some down time, he'll be able to start scribing runes on some shiz (4 days minimum per item).

For ranged weapons, he will buy 3 light hammers (9sp total).

    If available, I'll buy 1 moderate acid (10g), 1 moderate fire (10g), and 2 lesser alch fire(@3g).

To clarify, these are all alchemical items.

    RUNES sound cool.

  • Yeah, so if there are specific properties you want, pick up the formula and The Keg can scribe it for down to half price (assuming success on crafting rolls and enough time to burn down the cost)

For example the formula for +1 weapon potency was 2gp. The Rune itself would cost 35gp new, the Keg could do it for 17.5gp plus a day of work (beyond the initial 4)for each 1 gp we want to drive the price down .. critical successes can make that go faster and it gets faster as the Keg levels up.

    Gnome Rog4; HP 48/48; AC 21; F+8, R+11, W+9, Perc +9 (+10 vs traps)

Rodi already has the following formulas for crafting that they can share: Weapon Potency +1, everburning torch, minor healing potion, gecko potion

Hey all! I haven't posted (obviously)... at first it was because I got busy, and later more deliberately because I needed the break. I've not checked out though, and plan to pick up again after the New Year.

I figured I should jump on and post an update. I hope everyone has had a relaxing holiday season!

I figured/hoped we were on a holiday break. Thanks for the update and I hope you're enjoying your holidays. Looking forward to carrying on next year. Happy New Year, all!

    M Human (Rostlander) Fighter 4; AC 21, HP 29/52 wounded 1; spot +9

Oh wow. Glad to hear that you are ok. It was fairly mild though or did it get worse?

    Gnome Rog4; HP 48/48; AC 21; F+8, R+11, W+9, Perc +9 (+10 vs traps)

It was (for me) just a bad head cold. I honestly didn't think I had it. Until the test came back positive. And I lost my sense of taste for a couple days.

My coworker, on the other hand, has been in the hospital for 14 days sedated on a ventilator while they try to stabilize her blood oxygen. It's definitely a wildly varying virus that hits different people in different ways and degrees.

Yikes! I'm glad you got through it okay.

I'm slowly scraping off the crem and getting back into things. I'll post here in a minute. Thanks for being patient!

  • Nomadsage, I have a question about a potential shield house rule that I saw advertised on the boards.

Currently if you block a hit, shield absorbs up to its hardness and then both the wielder and the shield take all of the remaining damage.

It seems excessive as written and the houserule idea is simply to split the remaining damage 50/50 between the shield and the wielder.

Changes how often the Keg would use the shield and makes them a touch more valuable but I don't believe overbalancing and honestly the double damage bit seems excessive.

    Gnome Rog4; HP 48/48; AC 21; F+8, R+11, W+9, Perc +9 (+10 vs traps)

I like that house rule. Makes sense.

Yeah, that rule sounds fair. Let's use it!

I hate to do this but I think I'm going to have to drop this game folks. Life is getting very busy for me now and I just can't drive games like I used to. I'm running one PbP and playing in two others that are close to wrapping up, once I'm down to only running one game that'll be all I can focus on.

I don't blame you, to be honest. This game, and pretty much every other play-by-post I run or play in, has been on life support for all of 2021, and struggling for a while. Play-by-post is a great medium but requires momentum to survive. Where I used to check the boards several times a day, now I find myself going days before I remember to check. That's really a disservice to the game and players, but I suspect its a shared experience.

There's a number of factors -- 2020/COVID, returning to "normal" (seems even busier because of last year), mental fatigue.

Last year, due to the extra time at home, I also started running a weekly live game over the internet, which really scratched an itch I'd gotten numb to. I picked up play-by-post 20-ish years ago (first email, then boards) because time and access to friends was severely limited by life and work. And the VTT tools and such weren't there in the capacity they are today. I think the contrast in satisfaction(?) of the mediums has definitely contributed to my growing lack of enthusiasm for the play-by-post games.

Anyway, that being said, I'm still happy to continue this game. You're all great players and I'm still really proud of us completing Jade Regent together. But... the reality is posting/response is way down across the board. With Balodek leaving, I'd want to get a 4th player new recruit. I'd only really want to go through that if the rest of you are enthusiastic to go on. If not, its probably best to just call it.

    Thoughts?

I loved Jade Regent, absolutely a blast and that was hands down one of my favorite games played ever.

I'm in the process of leaving a job I'd had for ten years after a new boss made the place unpleasant and starting a new job Monday which will require a lot of training. My brain has been... taxed and my attention has been low. I should probably bow out now because I just don't have a lot of bandwidth to spare at the moment.

I truly did not expect PBP to languish during the lockdown, but yes, I think a new era of virtuality has presented more options and the end times have meant lots of life changes for folks.

My PF1 PBP game that I've been running like 10 years(!) is still mostly going, though the future is uncertain, so i've kept a toe in PF1, but my new game groups are all DND 5e. Thus, I haven't really played PF2 other than here and it's just a lot of work trying to recall how Mikos works. I am totally enjoying this game and group, but it's another barrier to posting for me. I feel like I'm having bandwidth issues as well. Sadly, I think this is an opportunity for a clean break for me, too.

Thanks so much for running Nomad Sage and I have truly enjoyed the company of my fellow adventurers.

    We'll always have Minkai!
