Some of y'all may have heard this already, but it was news to me so I thought I'd share it!

According to a recent Pathfinder Fridays twitch with Jason Bulmahn, a few big changes have already been announced for the final product of 2e. I don't know if you want to implement any of them GM (there will be no more playtest updates; 1.6 was the last one), but I figured I'd share them for posterity regardless. Even if we wait til launch for any further rules changes, they're exciting announcements.

1. The proficiency numbers were changed. Instead of untrained being level-4, it will simply the ability score modifier and nothing else. Then it goes Trained = Level +2, Expert = Level +4, Master = Level +6, Legendary = Level +8.

2. All skill check DC's will have a simple, streamlined chart that gives a baseline number for the level of the challenge. You want it more challenging? Go up the chart. Less challenging? Go down the chart. Easy peasy. (Jason didn't actually give the DC's from the table, so this one would probably be tough to implement regardless.)

3. They're adding a lot more thematic flavor. Instead of everything just being crunch, class abilities that you pick from will get a little bit of juice to them. For example, the rogue picks from three abilities at 1st level; these are now referred to as your "Racket." The wizard picks a Thesis at 1st level. Whether that's a familiar, or a school specialization, or what have you. (This one was a little vague, so I'm not sure how we'd implement it other than in a flavor sense.)

4. This one has the least to do with our game, but he completely rewrote the first chapter to be a little more like the first chapter of the 1e CRB. For example, lots of the terms scattered throughout the book that are new (or have new meanings, such as "proficiency") are listed in the first chapter, along with an example-of-play scenario like the 1e book.

5. And saving the best for last: Resonance is gone. It exists in exactly zero shapes or sizes. The only thing kept was the limit on the number of magic items you can wear, but no more of this nonsense of "how many potions can I drink today without risking wasting it?" Zero!Drink them all! Get wasted on potions of invisibility! Okay don't do that, those are expensive. (They did say they're working on how wands will function without the resonance system; they don't want them to be "potions on a stick," so I would guess we'll have to see on that one.) BYE FELICIA!

During the stream, Bulmahn also said that more announcements would be made between now and 2e launch, mostly at cons and such.

On a personal note, after playing PF for a decade, I *finally* get to go to Paizocon! My girlfriend and I are making arrangements as we speak! I'm so excited. It's even possible the 2e CRB will launch during Paizocon! I mean, if they intend to keep the current Adventure Path model from 1e into 2e, then the first 2nd edition AP will drop in July, meaning at the very least the CRB needs to be out before then, and Paizocon is at the very end of May. Maybe I'm just dreaming but that would be SO AMAZING to get my CRB for 2e at my very first Paizocon.

I have a support ticket in with Paizo for this thread, since it appears that I can't post in the gameplay thread. Fortunately, I have my post from yesterday saved on a notepad on my home computer, so once it's resolved I can just copy/paste and go.

I'll try again when I get home and see if it's been resolved, but they just haven't informed me yet on the issue.

I am posting this to all of my games, so apologies if you see this multiple times:

Unfortunately, I have some bad news.

A combination of work-related stuff has lead to me having to take some time off from the forums. I am, in all honesty, going to need to be gone for several months, as I am going to be travelling for extended periods of time (weeks or more) and I'll likely not have good access to the internet.

As I am not someone who would want to have you all sit and wait for me here, I am going to be withdrawing/closing all of my open forum games.

I want to thank everyone who I have had the pleasure to game with over the last couple of years here, as I have immensely enjoyed my time on the forums, and hopefully, once my work stabilizes, I will be able to rejoin the community.

Thank you again for your time and energy, and I am sorry that I won't be able to keep things moving forward in any of the games that I am running.
