We are going to be using a modified version of the Influence system from Ultimate Combat during some of these downtime sections in Sandpoint. Days will be divided into three segments (morning, afternoon, evening), and for each segment in which nothing else is happening, we'll hold what's called a Social Round.
In a Social Round, you spend time either trying to Discover information about an NPC through a Discovery check, or trying to influence an NPC through an Influence check. You may only make one of these checks per social round, and the check represents how successful you were in either discovering information about or influencing an NPC over the course of that part of the day.
Discovery Checks - if you choose to make a Discovery check, I will provide you a list of skills you can use to try to discover information about a particular NPC. If you succeed at the check, you can learn one of the following:
* Bias - an NPC's bias either for or against particular types of people
* Strength - a method of approaching an NPC that will make it more difficult for you to influence them (these approaches should obviously be avoided)
* Weakness - a method of approaching an NPC that will make it easier to influence them
* Skill - a skill that can be used to successfully influence the particular NPC[/list]
Influence Checks - if you choose to make an Influence check, you choose a skill to use to try to Influence the NPC. You might know which skills are effective (though a successful Discovery check), or you might just guess. Each NPC takes a certain amount of successes to influence them, and successfully influencing them will bring benefits, quests, etc.
Finally, the first time you attempt a Discovery check on an NPC, you can make a Knowledge check (I will tell you which ones you can use) to gain a +4 bonus on all Discovery checks on that NPC. If you listed an NPC as one of your allies or enemies during character creation, then you gain that +4 bonus automatically.
I hope this makes sense, and I think this will be a fun, flexible, but more codified way of running interactions with the people in Sandpoint, but please let me know if you have any questions or concerns! And you should obviously still roleplay any of these interactions - I think we'll get the hang of how to weave together the story with the checks.
A list of the NPCs that you can attempt to Influence, along with their primary location in Sandpoint, can be found here.

I'm waiting for DM to answer my knowledge check so I know what the dog can do. :). I won't be running into combat without that info, because that's how you get dead and a considerable focus of my character. I'll likely move slightly forward and ready an action to defensively thwap, though! I overall agree that we should either focus down their apparent champion or get rid of the numbers, though. Maybe if I fight defensively in the front I won't go down and you'll be able to color spray several foes... But if it turns out that's a goblin heckhound or something, I'd prefer my knowledge avail me that it isn't a normal dog. :)

Would it be untoward of me to ask for you to roll knowledge for me when monsters arrive so you can let me know what I know when I see the monster? Or would you be willing to do something like what is going on in This Post?
Hi folks - I'm going to be delayed in posting for a couple of days. I'll be able to kick things back off by Monday at the latest. Thanks for understanding!
Ok.
I have to tell you all that Tuesday I'll be traveling to spend the holidays with my fiancé's family. I'll try my best to keep up, but I'm sorry if I don't manage to post sometime. I'll be back January 14th.
The meeting with Foxglove will be the evening of Day 2 - and if you go, the only person you'll be able to Discover/Influence will be him. But that's several social rounds away, so for now you can do whatever you'd like.
Also I put a spoiler of the Influence system at the top!
I know I've been pretty sporadic with my posts recently. It's been a pretty crazy few weeks both at work and in life, and though I've had all the best intentions, it has caused me to be less than reliable.
With all of that said, things have calmed down and I'm ready to get back at it! So, please accept my apology and look for me to hop right back in!
If that hit kills the red skeleton someone can move up, also Leona has a sap on her hip if someone wants to take that. It is Nonlethal but should bypass DR.
You can deal lethal damage with a nonlethal weapon You will take a pretty heavy penalty to hit but leona can move to give someone else the flanking bonus but IMO this thing is pretty screwed right now.
Lethal Damage with a Weapon that Deals Nonlethal Damage: You can use a weapon that deals nonlethal damage, including an unarmed strike, to deal lethal damage instead, but you take a –4 penalty on your attack roll.

Mmmm, DC 15 K(Local) is probably a bit high for what Ileana knows there. Something like the Late Unpleasantness should probably be like DC 10 for outsiders (After all, there was likely talk about it outside of Ileana's minor speech prior, after the goblin attack), and probably DC 0 for locals. I feel like you'd have to be very introverted or lack any amount of intelligence to not know about the Late Unpleasantness. As it stands, Ileana is the only person trained in K(Local) and the only person who could roll for it as a result.
She also had a 40% chance to fail, despite it being core to her backstory and drive. Though, had I failed the roll, I wouldn't even know not to know about it ;)
I do believe that knowing more details should likely be a higher DC, but I don't think it's reasonable for Leona or Eloen to not know anything about the late unpleasantness as a whole.
@Ileana - you're probably not wrong, it's probably a little high. I was attempting to account for two things:
1) that for those who weren't around at that time, it's pretty unlikely that they'd know much about it since the locals don't like to talk about it at all, and
2) for those who were around, this is more a roll about connecting this event to those events; obviously if someone said "the late unpleasantness," a local would instantly know what was being referred to.
I think I'm going to keep it as DC 15 for those who weren't around 5 years ago, but adjust to DC 5 for those who were.
I'm enjoying this discussion so I'll let it go on a bit more before Foxglove arrives - so feel free to keep discussing and I'll move us forward later today!

Hey DM,
It looks like most of the party members are not really happy with the idea of a boar hunt. I understand that this is a way to get some more xp onto the characters (a raging boar is no joke) and to create a scene with some tension with Aldern; would it be ok for us to suggest an alternative, or would that derail things too much?
Female NG Human (Chelish) Inquisitor 1 | HP 10/10 | AC 16 T 13 FF 13 | CMB +0 (3w), CMD 13 | F: +4, R: +3, W: +4 | Init: +3 | Perc: +8, SM: +9 | Speed 30ft | Judgment 0/1 | Spells: 1st 0/2 | Active conditions: None.
Ileana's happy to help him hunt a boar. It just seems so... odd and out of place. Like... I expected something like 'will you be my guards?' or 'I called you here to have a feast in your honor!' or 'When did you first become adventurers?'
'Help me hunt boars' wasn't on the list. Also, as Eloen said, boars can wreck people. Now, if he wanted us to help him go hunt for more gloves... I'd likely turn him down. That never ends well.
I'm not too concerned about the XP honestly, so please feel free to suggest whatever you'd like. And also, if certain people want to stay back in town while others go on the hunt, that's fine too. I definitely don't want to force anyone to do anything they don't want to. And you don't get the sense that he'll fly of the handle or anything if you decline.
Female NG Human (Chelish) Inquisitor 1 | HP 10/10 | AC 16 T 13 FF 13 | CMB +0 (3w), CMD 13 | F: +4, R: +3, W: +4 | Init: +3 | Perc: +8, SM: +9 | Speed 30ft | Judgment 0/1 | Spells: 1st 0/2 | Active conditions: None.
So, barring 'pcs get kidnapped' or the like, this isn't a 'multiple days foray'? That kind of determines whether Ileana is willing to go or not. If it's just a single day of 'spend time getting to know people', that's not as bad as 'spend three days in the wilds after finding out someone stole the bones of the old priest, and you should probably investigate that.' :P
Hi all. I apologize, but I unexpectedly lost internet last weekend, and it hasn't yet returned. I will get us going again as soon as it returns. Thanks for your patience!
