Did my long distance "radar" technique tell me anything while the others were healing up and such (would have been at least 4 rounds based on the healing for Moselle, unless they waited for me to use the whole duration of my potion which would have given me 9 rounds)

GM_Starson |

Sorry socraties, ya had to stick your head in the boat and take a good look to notice stuff.
And here are the swim rules:
A creature with a swim speed can move through water at its indicated speed without making Swim checks. It gains a +8 racial bonus on any Swim check to perform a special action or avoid a hazard. The creature can always choose to take 10 on a Swim check, even if distracted or endangered when swimming. Such a creature can use the run action while swimming, provided that it swims in a straight line.
So swim speed means you don't need to make a check, and you can choose to take 10 in the boat with a +8 bonus (So you need to have at least a +2 swim to make it on a take 10.

![]() |

Fair enough, just wanted to check before things moved on.

Jack Escalara |

Do we need to make swim checks if we have a swim speed?
It depends - having a swim speed means several things:
1) You can move the listed speed with a successful swim check instead of 1/4 your land movement speed.
2) You can always take 10 on swim checks, even when rushed, hurried, or in a hazardous situation
3) You get a +8 racial bonus on swim checks
So if you have a swim modifier such that 10 + 8 + your swim modifier gets you to at least 20, then you should not need to make swim checks. If it is less than 20, you need to roll.
Edit: whoops, didn't notice there was a new page on the discussion and our illustrious GM had already answered.

GM_Starson |

Hey Everyone. Sorry for being a lazy bum about this, here are your chronicle sheets for part 1
If there is anything off, let me know.

Moselle |

GM what type of damage is the gaze attack? Wondering if Moselle takes full damage or 1/2.
Also is the channel/holy having an effect?

GM_Starson |

It's untyped, and the channel did damage, but hasn't stopped anything.

Nyvorlas |

Great job GM. I am currently running incorporeal in Deeper Darkness at level 11 so I know how difficult these encounters are to adjudicate - espically over PbP.

Dragos Pavlenco |

I third that - there are so many moving parts to a very complicated encounter. Really nice work here.
Also, thanks for letting us know about what we can add to our post to help make your job easier. Please never hesitate to ask for that kind of stuff in the future. GMing a PbP is more time consuming than most people think, and it just gets tougher the higher level we get. Anything we can do to help shoulder the load, I am happy to volunteer for.

Nyvorlas |

Sorry everyone I wasn't seeing updates. I will get on this soon.

Nyvorlas |

Ugh ... still here just wicked busy. Ready to kill some sea cats.

Nyvorlas |

GM The yellow seacat is Frightened: A frightened creature flees from the source of its fear as best it can. If unable to flee, it may fight. A frightened creature takes a –2 penalty on all attack rolls, saving throws, skill checks, and ability checks. A frightened creature can use special abilities, including spells, to flee; indeed, the creature must use such means if they are the only way to escape.
Frightened is like shaken, except that the creature must flee if possible. Panicked is a more extreme state of fear.
I don't see anything on the map that indicates the seacat can't flee and Moselle should be able to take an AoO when it does.

GM_Starson |

The seacats have driven the hippocampus up onto the beach, and the seacats can't flee that way. The only way to flee would be for it to go towards Moselle and around her, which it can't do, so it'll fight for the moment.
As i mentioned, this is a minor battle... you guys will have it cleaned up in another round or two barring dice suddenly turning on you.

Dragos Pavlenco |

Sorry for the delay guys. Currently on a layover on my way to vegas, been a busy couple days of prep.
Couple of notes - dragos does lethal damage with his whip. He has 15' reach and threatens 10' and 15' out, plus has half a dozen or so AoOs per round.
Ill do my best to keep my posts up! Back home by this weekend

Nyvorlas |

Hey everyone = back from my vacay. I would have healed Moselle offscreen. Ready to kill the guardians. With the DR - how much damage did she take?
CLW #1: 1d8 + 1 ⇒ (6) + 1 = 7
CLW #2: 1d8 + 1 ⇒ (2) + 1 = 3
CLW #3: 1d8 + 1 ⇒ (4) + 1 = 5
CLW #4: 1d8 + 1 ⇒ (5) + 1 = 6

Jack Escalara |

Hey GM - I assume we're getting pretty close to the end of this part? I have a game starting up on the 22nd that I need a 5th level PC for. In order to have one in time, I'd need this chronicle to apply to the character. Do ya think you'd be able to get me a chronicle by then?

GM_Starson |

Absolutely. :) This is pretty much done, and even if for some reason we're not, I'll get you your chronicle sheet for it. :)

Moselle |

Wow. That is ... disappointing. Misses both attacks against ff ac with a +12 to hit.

![]() |

Why can't Jack make the charge? He has a swim speed (from touch of Sea)so he can charge in water, are you saying he can't because of the transition from land to sea?

GM_Starson |

I forgot he had swim speed.
And also, it means that she has enough damage to be killed! Does a lot of damage (7d6 per hit) but not much HP especially if you bypass her healing by hitting like tanks and DR by using Cold Iron.
But you completed Chapter 2! Hooray!
You get a level up and 6,756 in gold! Because Jack needs his chronicle, I'm gonna work on getting this up right away and not be lazy this time.

GM_Starson |

I uploaded mostly filled one Here
Since we had a few deaths on this one, I wasn't sure if you wated me to report diffrent names or what, but their all reported under the same number as last time. Just let me know if there needs to be any changes, or if you'd like me to fill out the top half for you as well.

GM_Starson |

No problem! Excited to see what everyone does for their next level, and begin the FINAL CHAPTER! (Dramatic Organ Music)

Dragos Pavlenco |

I would prefer to have everything reported to the same character number. I am assuming because we are in campaign mode the character doesn't get reported as dead right? I am sure that once the character is actually assembled with all the necessary chronicle sheets I would be able to afford to bring him back to life anyways using the prestige or with gold he would have.
Thanks! This has been a blast so far, can't wait for the last part!!

GM_Starson |

Nope! Character is not only not reported as dead, but you don't have to spend anything to bring him back since your "Real" PFS character didn't actually die.
Yay for Campaign mode loopholes. ;)
But some folks get attached and feel oddly about dead characters, so i didn't want to force anything.

Jack Escalara |

Thanks! I'm going to apply credit to the same character for this one - the last two I might switch...
I'll let you know as we get closer to the end.

Dragos Pavlenco |

You get a bonus chronicle for applying all the chronicles to the same character right?

Jack Escalara |

Oh, I thought it was just for playing all of them. If you have to apply them all to the same character, I'll keep em all on the same character.

GM_Starson |

Everybody all leveled up and ready to start part 3?

![]() |

*cough* gold/chronicle sheets? *cough*

Right here Socrates. :)

![]() |

A *woosh* can be heard around the boards as that post just barely skims the top of Socraties head, but somehow he himself doesn't notice the sound and continues on like nothing happened to everyone elses shock....
Lol

Dragos Pavlenco |

I just have to spend some gold and I will be good to go. Dragos gets a bit of a 'keystone' feat at 6th level - the ability to threaten a large area around him, paired with his maximum of 6 AoOs per round, he should have a pretty decent ability to control the battlefield.
We will see how it works in actual combat... ha :)

Nyvorlas |

Updated and ready to go!

![]() |

Got my stats updates, but haven't bought anything.
Does anyone have any support gear they suggest I get?
I don't really think an extra AC or two or another +1 or +2 to saves is going to make or break me so looking for suggestions.

Nyvorlas |

her adopted/halfling helpful trait
Wow - an Ifrit raised by halflings. Where can I read that backstory?

GM_Starson |

Have you ever met halflings? They practically spend all their time raising kids chucked into the river and left to die by parents who are freaked out by weirdness.

![]() |

Ha ha!!
Okay, so of course there is a backstory! ;-)
My Katsu Clan consists of several Kitsune and Ifrit characters that were raised together by a halfling ‚father’ and an Ifrit ‚mother‘.
Let me start with the Kitsune Katsu siblings and explain from the perspective of Setare's Kitsune stepsister Zaarah:
"Being a quintuplet is not easy. Especially when your mother is a Kitsune that fled Cheliax years ago as a pregnant woman with five unborn babies in her belly. Well, her husband was willing to sacrifice her unborn children to close a deal with a devil. You know … it sounds better when I say „ her husband“ because I do not have to say … „my father“.
We grew up near Palin's Cove, an industrial town near Korvosa in southeast Varisia. Out of fear our mother gave us a herbal mixture sourced from a Varisian witch that hindered us to take our natural fox form but also made us physically weak. Even if a sudden transformation happened we were never allowed to look at our red fur in the mirror … let alone tell anybody what we were.
As a kid I was always a little too protective … and so full of guilt … and although I did not know why, I knew something was missing. Today I know that my dead mother only wanted to protect us. Maybe if we understood what a dangerous man our father was, we would have paid more attention to her teachings ... maybe then not only she but also our eldest sister would still be alive.
It took my uncle Xiao two weeks to find my two brothers, my sister and I in our vulpine forms somewhere in the woods north of the Falcon River. It was also surprising for us that we had a relative that was a Halfling.
None of us remember much of the travel to Tian Xia except of the lonely hearts that longed for our mother and sister. Although uncle Xiao was always with us, we were all very frightened when we arrived in the village we later all called home … Leng Hao, a village full of Kitsune and Halflings in the Forest of Spirits east of Hongal. But please do not believe that we were welcomed with open arms. We were Kitsune that could not properly change into their natural form, looked like the barbaric human invaders from Avistan and did not even speak Tien … I do not need continue, do I? Religion never really ment much to our mother but Xiao waited some time but eventually taught us the lessons of Chaldira and our eyes opened to all the possibilities in the world … and we got along better with the halfling community that thought it was funny that we were followers of a Halfling goddess.
Xiao was married to Soreya, a kind woman and pious follower of Sarenrae that had lost her first husband years back. Xiao raised Soreya's kids together with her as if he was the kids own father. You can imagine my surprise when I later learned that these funny kids that I now love as much as my real siblings are all Ifrits although they look so human!
After Xiao died we all decided to choose our own paths. Mine led me to Minata, the massive archipelago located on the far southeastern edge of the continent of Tian Xia. Living among Wayang was certainly more difficult than I assumed but what they know about shadow magic was beyond my comprehension. Now I am seeking the power to manifest my own kind of shadow magic ... my intelligent black blade!"
---
Now Setare's past is much simpler to tell. :-)
”You have to know that my siblings and I are a diverse lot! We are a real patchwork family. My father died when I was very young and my Ifrit mother remarried ... the result was that my Ifrit brothers and sisters grew up with beloved and wonderful Kitsune step-brothers and step-sisters and that we learned to love a halfling man who treated us like his own children... that is why I carry his name!
Xiao always tried to show us what our true potential is. He knew that I have a good heart but that it is hard for me to show all the emotions that I feel inside. And he also helped me understand that I find inner peace in being helpful ... to aid others was one of the lessons I learned from him!
But I have to admit that my mother's faith was always the driving force in my life so that I left Tian and traveled the inner sea. My mother's love for Sarenrae guided me to find my own path to a pious life in the name of the Dawnflower and I visited many temples in Garund which tought me the code that I follow as a Paladin of Sarenrae.
But it was my halfling step-father Xiao - who was a Pathfinder in his younger years - that was the role model that eventually led me to join the Scarab Sages and the Pathfinders ... to learn from the past and help to make this world a safer place!“

Nyvorlas |

+1 made my day.
Thank you for sharing. Always a pleasure to read top notch writing.

Honestly I have never played a halfling (even back to original D&D) and none of my players mentioned that. So no, I guess I haven’t.

It's half in jest, half serious. In jest, because halflings have some of the best racial traits and are prime picks for the "Adopted" trait, so lots of adventurers end up having Halfling parents.
Half serious because, lore wise, Halflings are super tolerant of people who are down on their luck and are in need of help and are incredibly likely to just sorta adopt someone into one of their caravans if they need and that especially applies to kids who are "Banished" from home for being weirdos of some kind or another, AKA adventures in making.
