Taking a drawback is alright.
I'm not a fan of the whole Traits/Drawbacks system for numerous reasons, so I like to get the selection done and move on as soon as possible. But I looked through the Drawbacks, and Family Ties seems pretty appropriate to my character, so I'll take that for Kaeldron's suggested (Fate's Favored).

The Party Thus Far
* Kaeldron
- Race: Aasimar
- Class: Tempered Champion Hospitaler Oath of the Crusade Paladin VMC Cleric of Korad
- Weapons/ Armor: Fights with spear/shield combination and wears heavy armor
- Deity: Korada

* Sariel
- Race: Aasimar
- Class: Divine Hunter Tempered Champion Paladin
- Weapons/Armor: Fights with longbow and light armor
- Deity: Erastril
- Background Summary: Born in Kenabres to crusader parents. Both of whom have passed away due to their profession. He follows in their footsteps in worshiping Erastril and combatting the demons.
* Claire
- Race: Human
- Class: Chosen One Paladin VMC Sorcerer Celestial Bloodline
- Weapons/Armor: Rapier, buckler, medium armor
- Deity: Cayden Cailean
- Background Summary: Her mother gave birth due to divine intervention from Cayden himself. She grew up in her mother's 'Lucky Bar', and only became a paladin when her father sent a little brown bird to guide her down her fated path.
* Davok

- Weapons/Armor: Greataxe and heavy armor
- Deity: Vildeis
- Background Summary: Raised by his Kelid father (paladin) and orc mother (shaman), Davok can trace his lineage back to Sarkoris. He seeks to reconquer his lost homeland and to rekindle the worship of Vildeis in his ancestral lands.
* Fredric
- Race:
- Class: Paladin with VMC Barbarian
- Weapons/Armor: Based on stats looks like two handed weapon and heavy armor?
- Deity: Ragathiel
- Background Summary:
--------------------------------
That's where we stand thus far. Looking things over, we have a healthy spread of deities. Everything from "redemption is always an option" (Korada) to "I'm going to need a bigger sword for this heresy!" (Ragathiel) and "why are we out of liquor? Oh right, I drank it all" (Cayden).
We also have 4 close combat paladins, which is not surprising. Three of whom will be wearing fullplate once it can be afforded. That should make for quite a sight.
Finally, Claire: I was looking over everyone's sheets and noticed that you don't have darkvision. I'm not sure how important that is to you, but it could be a hindrance later on. As a human, you can trade skilled for dimdweller, giving you 60ft darkvision. Not sure if it is worth the trade to you, but am throwing it out there.

Tempting, but I wanted Claire to start as a 'normal' girl despite her absurd quirks. That's also why I chose not to be an aasimar, even though I could easily justify it. She's got her torches for now, and if it becomes a problem in the future she'll cross that bridge when she comes to it. Besides, she'd prefer to bring some light and colour to the world, rather than adapt to the darkness.
For the record, my favourite races to play are actually dwarves and half-orcs. So darkvision will be sorely missed.... Haha.

Glad you like it! And looking forward to seeing your character when you are ready.

GM, a question:
(1) Kaeldron's Father is Sir Isgor Darahan, minor son of House Darahan. The Taldorian house are known as famed monster hunters and have won fame in the Shining Crusade. Sir Isgor, being the fourth son of his family, inherited little more than his armor and horse. He joined the Mendevian Crusade to earn fame and fortune like his forefathers before him. He became a paladin after joining the crusade.
(2) Kaeldron's mother (Tereia) is a merchant from Cheliax who came to Kenabres to escape creditors.
Given that parentage, would he be considered a noble, albeit a very minor one?
From what little I know, Taldor is supposed to be a confusing mess of laws and regulations concerning nobility...so I'm sure that the fictional country would have rules on this, though I am not aware of them.
I'd just like to know his status, and it would influence how he'd see his heritage and place in the world.
Fredric Fulk |
I let descriptions and questions help shape Fredric's past and appearance.
Build: well-muscled
Digits: metallic nails
Hair: animated
Shadow: winged
Skin: metallic sheen
Quiet and slightly withdrawn. Except when enraged. Which is all to often.
1) Where were they born?
In a sleepy part of Taldor, to farmers.
2) Who are their parents?
Laurence and Wilma Fulk. Honest people.
2a) Are they still alive? Are there any other guardians/close family members?
No. They were murdered by a demon cult, who tried to corrupt the clearly god-touched Fredric.
3) What were they doing before now?
Hunting down cultists.
3a) Why leave it all?
Wandered here.
3b) What did they leave behind?
Surviving siblings. A brother and sister.
4) What does your character want?
VENGEANCE.

Pre-Game Relationships
* Sariel: Kaeldron knows him as a fellow crusader. But as Sariel is an archer/scout and Kaeldron a squire, their relationship would be aquiantances. Someone you’ve talked to but haven’t worked alongside. Perhaps Kaeldron has had to fetch arrows and other supplies to learn humility before, and met Sariel then?
* Claire: Just typing up the first post I had it in my head that he knows Claire by face but not by name. Just as I don’t see Kaeldron as being someone who’d spend much time in any tavern.
* Frederic/Davok: Both are new to the city, are they not? If so, I’d imagine that they’d be strangers.
That work for everyone?

@Kevin: How about adding a discussion thread?
I'll second that.
Btw...I'm glad that we have this time before the campaign starts. I was thinking about how we have paladins of Ragathiel and Vildeis in the party...and how Korada is a polar opposite of them. And the more I thought about it, the less fun it sounded to play someone bound to mercy and redemption.
So I've made my final change. I found Lythertida, the goddess of idealism, potential, and young death. I figure that she will let me play Kaeldron as a healing paladin who is very LG, without being too....lawful stupid. Idealism was what I planned to go for, more than forgiveness. So this gets it right.
For the party, all that this means is:
(1) Less friction with the more militant "RAGE AND DESTROY THE HERETIC" type paladins.
(2) At lvl 3, he'll be able to give +1/2 his level as a bonus to skill checks that others in the party take. Given how skills in general are going to be rough on us, I figure that this will help up shore up that deficiency. Especially as we level up, as this bonus will only grow.
Anyways, that is all...though I suppose this does show why we need a discussion thread. ;)
