Hullric Torsol |
"I believe the choice made by the group was the mask, since some in the group are reluctant to deal with an alchemist."
Helme |
"Yes mask it is."
"Would you mind telling us what's in that box? I'm just dying to know." Helme asks.
GM NotEspi |
"Just making sure you didn't change your mind. Divs are quite malicious.", Marqual grins. Responding to Helme's request, he looks at the servant moving the box first. "Certainly. I'm actually surprised you didn't peek. They're albino lion cubs. My niece is having a birthday party next week. I should really find someone to tame them a bit in the meantime. They seem to be scratch-happy."
Tenibri |
"Yes, I think we might be. What kinds of enhancements are you talking about?" Tenibri, of course, doesn't use weapons himself, but they are always effective in the hands of those who are keeping him alive to cast spells.
Doran Therinor |
You mean like these? Doran says as he unsheaths his sword and dagger made of cold forged iron. I never leave home with out them. Might need to get some arrowheads though...my armorer was out of iron last time I was there....
Hullric Torsol |
Hullric shrugs, "Any help to vanquish enemies is appreciated."
Helme |
"Of course we're interested in enchanted weapons. Are these for free or do you expect payment." she gives him a cheeky grin.
Tenibri |
Tenibri will cast detect magic, without attempting to hide the spellcasting, and begins examining the blades that are on offer. He speaks openly and honestly about what he learns about the blades.
Here are 5 for good measure; feel free to roll any additional checks as needed for this.
Spellcraft: 1d20 + 12 ⇒ (2) + 12 = 14
Spellcraft: 1d20 + 12 ⇒ (10) + 12 = 22
Spellcraft: 1d20 + 12 ⇒ (16) + 12 = 28
Spellcraft: 1d20 + 12 ⇒ (17) + 12 = 29
Spellcraft: 1d20 + 12 ⇒ (12) + 12 = 24
Hullric Torsol |
Hullric is only interested in daggers and will only look to see, if a dagger is shown.
Pazacku |
Pazacku steps forward to look over the blades and test the edge of some of them. "While I do appreciate the offer to purchase weaponry from you. I will have to decline. My blades are crafted by those in the village and follows strict code on how to be constructed. A method passed down by ancestors."
GM NotEspi |
Tenibri reveals that the weapons are not actually magical, they are just made from special materials. Most of them are of masterwork quality, too. Cold steel, duh
"No magic about these, I'm afraid. But they hit like a mule, even if they are light as a feather. And look at all these beautiful carvings...", Marqual shows you the blades, which are indeed decorated (most of them, anyway) and almost perfectly balanced.
"But if you don't want them, you don't want them. Standard fees apply. In any case - here's the mask.", he says, as he hands you a white-blue sobi mask with silver lining on it. "I must say I like the design, but not the content.", he grins.
He walks towards one of the windows, and points at a tall square building a few hundred feet away. "That tower over there has a flat roof. It's pretty stable as well. Just make sure you don't fall. Or... make sure you fall on the lower floor, not on the street. Once you get rid of that presence, come back, and I'll hand you the archive."
If you wish to make some purchases on the way, you can. This is Katapesh, after all. You can pretty much get unicorn tears in this place.
Hullric Torsol |
Making no purchases, trusting in his divine blessings to enhance his weapons, Hullric is ready to set out for the tower.
Pazacku |
Been slammed at work the past few days.
Pazacku is ready to head out as well.
Helme |
Helme picks up a dagger, and checks the balance. "I'll take this one." She'll hand over the cash to the merchant.
GM NotEspi |
The slaver hands you a scroll with a single word written on it - chalifan. "The command word to release the entity from the mask. Under normal circumstances, I would not suggest speaking it out loud when close to the mask, but in this case, that is the desired outcome. So - good luck!"
Murqual’s directions lead to a rickety iron ladder in an alleyway that climbs the side of a long, low tower. The tower is near the wall separating the bazaar from the rest of Katapesh, and vaguely L-shaped. Clearly not used in a while, some of the clay bricks are missing from the walls. Once you reach the top, you have a solid view of the surrounding stalls and houses, and the wall, naturally. The entire thing is some 30 feet above street level.
Hullric Torsol |
"Make sure everyone is prepared. No telling what might happen when we begin."
After Doran checks around, heads up the tower.
Helme |
Helme casts Bless on the party just in case.
She pulls out her longspear. I'm ready."
Pazacku |
Pazacku joins Cypher and stands there, hand laying ready on his katana.
"I'll let you all with the arcane talent deal with this task"
Tenibri |
Tenibri quietly activates two wands, then looks up and gives Cypher a brief nod.
Will apply buffs of mage armor (1 hour) and heightened awareness (10 minutes) from wands.
Helme |
Helme gives Cypher the nod. "Say the word. Let's get the party started."
GM NotEspi |
You speak the word on the scroll - 'chalifan'.
At first, nothing seems to be happening. Then you notice the mask releasing a fog-like cloud from the bottom. The cloud spreads on the floor and slowly rises around the mask - Several foggy shapes spiral out of the growing cloud. They slowly materialise before your eyes. One of the creatures resembles a floating, horned beast-like head with snakes for hair. The other one, draped in rags, and hunched over on goatlike legs. The only features on its face seem to be a large eye surrounded by fangs.

"We were right. One of the enemy is a div. They are very resistant to magic, and they can call misfortune down on us."
She looks at the creature. "I don't suppose you would just like to leave?"
She casts Bless.
Doran Therinor |
Doran boldly strides over to the div and slashes at it with his cold forged sword.

"Actually, Helme, that one is resistant to magic, though it has some magical tricks of its own, and it's outright immune to fire and poison! That one is the one that can call down misfortune on us at will." Tenibri accompanies his explanation with gesticulation to identify each of the two divs. But Tenibri's player isn't sure which is which from the map and description.
Tenibri quickly focuses his energy and summons a creature to aid the combat. A portal appears next to the div, opposite Doran; a shining, shimmery eagle flies out of the portal and immediately attacks.
"Hey Doran, want to get bigger for this fight? Pazacku?" Tenibri is offering enlarge person if either wants it.

Summoned Monster: Tenibri |
Not sure which div Doran is fighting; Tenibri will position the eagle to be flanking with Doran. In either case, the spell has enough range to position for this. I've left a token at the side of the map; please place the eagle in the correct position when we know where Doran is attacking from.
The eagle quickly swoops out of the portal. Its eyes flash as it focuses its attacks against the evil outsider, and it strikes.

Doru - Green, and after this action - blue and yellow too (Disembodied head),
The creature with the toothy eye releases a bellowing sound. Almost laugh-like.
"Kadima uramai. Mamat dannav."

1d2 ⇒ 2
The aghash points to a spot on the floor. Sands shift from the entire roof to that one point, and rapidly swirl in a circle. before you know it, the sands form two balls and rise into the air. They fall back down within a few short moments, but leave two disembodied heads in their place. Disembodied heads similar to the one you were already facing.

Apologies for delays. Finding time to post is complicated, it seems.
One of the disembodied heads - (green) - rushes towards the nearest mortal (In this case, Helme) to take a nasty bite.
