Flouncy Magoo |
Flouncy tells the group what he noticed.
We should set off these traps now, so they can't be used later. Once it all collapses, it can't hurt anyone.
Look out below!
Flouncy Magoo |
Unless we plan to use them sometime, yes, we should just make sure the kobolds can't. Let them fall down the hill while there's nothing for them to fall on.
If they've got these in multiple locations, they're planning a larger attack. We should disable any traps there are, and figure out the larger plan. They would need a lot of kobolds to pull it off. They'll be coming from somewhere.
Aviz |
As the rest of the party stares on blankly or daydreams, Aviz takes the initiative and begins disabling the traps, shoving the rocks down into the valley after a cursory glance to make sure he's not crushing anybody.
Brolof |
As Aviz and Flouncy go about knocking the rocks out, it quickly becomes apparent how bad it could have been if someone had been a target for it. As the large rocks slowly went into their rolls down the hill once the stones had been removed, they quickly begin knocking other large and small rocks out of position. By the time everything has settled and all the traps have been activated, half the hillside has found its way to the bottom of the valley. Part of it has even managed to make its way into the river, causing some large waves.
Aviz |
"Was this why the arrea was marked on the map? Maybe there are many of these traps for some kind of ambush. Rrather smart for kobolds." Aviz notes as he looks around the area.

They may be taking orders from someone else.

Doesn't seem like there would be enough kobolds around here to organize such a complex attack. Then, I don't really know anything about this area.
Amaya Shirina |
"I tend to agree, there is no way that kobolds planned this level of strategy on their own, without anyone knowing about it. Surely they would have been spotted attempting to make an ambush with this level of detail" Amaya remarks.
Quellina Esstanov |
Quellina listens to the others speculating, then decides to chime in. "Who would help the kobolds though? I know very little about their culture, having only ever met them in combat."
Brolof |
Borr scratched his head, squinting down at the damage caused by the landslide. He's quiet as he does so, eventually adding his bit into the conversation. "Towns been noticing strange fires in the woods for about a week now. Most people just waved it away as dwarven caravans. Don't know anything about Kobolds, they don't live in these parts normally."
The area around is deathly quiet, most of the wild life seeming to have been scared off by the thunderous sound of the landslide.
Aviz |
"Hmm, well it seems there is nothing else of interest in the arrea. Let's go to the next spot on the map. Maybe we find more traps and ambushes set up?"
Brolof |
Borr nods and glances down at the map again. "An O this time... might be another camp." With that, Borr starts leading the way, leaving the landslide behind.
Going at a fairly brisk pace, the distance is eaten away with relative ease with Borr's aid in finding the best paths through undergrowth and up the sides of ridges. Eventually, the party starts nearing the second of the O's, the first one having be left behind.

Aviz Perc: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (2) + 7 = 9
This time, it's Amaya and Quellina who manage to spot the smoke of a campfire rising up above the treeline.
Amaya Shirina |
"I"ll speak to them, I create my weapons out of thin air so I look less threatening, which might discourage a further attack."
Brolof |
So, what shall the party do? How are they handling this? Are everyone besides Flouncy going to march right up to the camp? Is it just Amaya going up while the others hang back? What shall be done?
I am very sorry for the time this took. Life got very busy lately. School nonsense.
Amaya Shirina |
I think the goal is Amaya goes up, because she is less threatening. The others (except Flouncy) can be nearby to encourage initial aggression if they want. I think we check for traps before we walk up, since that kick started things last time, but yes, Amaya takes point and walks into the camp attempting to look non threatening.

Quellina Perception: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (2) + 5 = 7
Flouncy Perception: 1d20 + 5 + 1 ⇒ (13) + 5 + 1 = 19

Assuming Flouncy helps check for traps with the rest of the party, he can point out the couple of snares the Kobolds have got set up along the way towards their camp. As Flouncy sneaks off to get ready to snipe, Borr follows his example and sneaks off in the other direction.
Moving around the snares, the rest of the party advances forward towards the camp, Amaya taking point with Quellina and Aviz on either side and a little bit back. Clearing the rest of the underbrush, the party quickly finds themselves at the edge of the kobolds camp. Scattered around the camp are the kobolds, interrupted from their various duties and staring at the party. There are four drudges, two standing next to the stew pot with chunks of vegetable and meat in their hands, and two off to the side skinning rabbits. Sitting infront of the tents talking are one of the sorcerers, and a more martial looking kobold in studded leather. A shield is strapped to one arm, a crossbow across his back, and a shortsword at his hip.
Amaya, time to make your entrance. If anyone wants to roll a diplomacy to try and assist her, go ahead and do so.
Amaya Shirina |
Amaya walks slowly towards the small grouping of kobolds, keeping her hands away from her body, palms up, trying to look as non threatening as possible. She is still on high alert, ready to tap into her destructive energies, but doesn't do so just yet.
"I'm just here to talk, see, no weapons. Are you happy to talk with me, does anyone speak for you, or understand the common tongue?" she asks briefly.
Diplomacy: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (14) + 7 = 21
Brolof |
The kobolds just stare for a bit longer before the sorcerer jumps up and yips something out in their foreign language. The response is immediate, as all the drudges hands drop to their weapons and the warrior next to the sorcerer actually draws his sword. The sorcerer lets out a high pitched growl, almost sounding more like a whine before he speaks in a high pitched voice. "We understand, you leave! This our camp, smooth skins not welcome!"
Sorry for taking this long to post, I figured I should give others time to potentially roll to aid.
Quellina Esstanov |
Quellina takes a step forward, hand on her glaive. She looks down at the sorcerer and then says, in her harshest voice, "Stand down! My friends," she motions to Amaya and Aviz, "and I would rather not resort to violence, but we will bury you all if you push us."
Intimidate: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (9) + 9 = 18
Amaya Shirina |
Amaya puts a cautionary hand on Quellina's shoulder. She isn't that happy with inflammatory words at this stage, all it did was provoke a fight when it was unneeded.
"You will have to forgive my friend, she is tired, and its been somewhat of a long day already."
"I understand completely that smooth skins are not welcome, it is indeed your camp. With that said, my friends and I are here because scale skins invaded our camp last night and dug traps, holes in the ground. A smooth skin got hurt. Not his fault, smooth skin had done nothing to hurt scale skin's in his life. So I'm here, in your camp, asking why scale skins are invading our home, and hurting smooth skins. Why are scale skins doing this?

If its pointless rolling Diplomacy after Quellina rolled Intimidate, then treat the above roll as an intimidate check instead, and subtract 1 from the total. I'd prefer Diplomacy though, since I'd rather not fight and actually learn some information for once.
Aviz |
Aviz leans on his fauchard casually, as if it were a walking stick and he was resting his legs. A casual, relaxed pose, but the fact was his weapon is still in his hands.
Aviz will wait for the others since he is terrible in social situations.
Brolof |
Diplomacy: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (6) + 7 = 13
The kobolds all start yipping rapidly at Quellina, their hands flying from their weapons to be up in the air. The warrior tries to yip at them to get them into order, but they aren't listening. The sorcerer for his part, seems to be thinking. He eventually raises a finger at Amaya. "Trap in wrong spot. Meant for road. No one go into mountains, no one leaves! Chief commands it!"
A 22 Intimidate thanks to size modifiers... Works for me!
Amaya Shirina |
Amaya doesn't let up on the pressure, seeing the kobolds respond towards Quiellina's tough language. "So who was going to tell the smooth skins about the traps on the road then? Were you all going to wait and laugh when someone inevitably got hurt?" she responds dangerously, her eyes boring into the sorcerer's ones.
"I think you owe us an explanation, at the very least. We are only here, after all, because you couldn't dig a trap in the correct place and therefore hurt a smooth skin. Had you left us alone, we would have left you well enough alone. So now I want you to tell me why your Chief commands no-one entering or leaving the mountains before I start to lose my patience. Someone got hurt thanks to this incompetence, and I want to know why."
Intimidate (included the size bonus): 1d20 + 6 + 4 ⇒ (12) + 6 + 4 = 22
Quellina Esstanov |
Quellina raises a brow at Amaya's words, impressed by the other woman's commanding tone. "Are we back to tough talk? Should I chime in?"
Amaya Shirina |
Amaya extends a slim hand in Quellina's direction. "By all means, feel free to let these scale skins know how upsetting this has been for us. There is no need for any explicit threats though, I'm sure the scale skins didn't mean to intentionally cause harm or offense and will do what they can to make things right. Isn't that so?" Amaya asks, turning the question back towards the sorcerer and giving him a pointed look.
Quellina Esstanov |
Quellina pauses a moment, picking up on Amaya's meaning. "It'd better be so, scale-skins," she says, leveling a severe gaze at the sorcerer.
Brolof |
The sorcerer and the warrior take a step back, glancing between the two women before looking over at each other. They quickly yip at each other a bit, the warrior eventually just whacking the sorcerer on the top of the head with a fist. Grumbling, the sorcerer turned back to the party with a nervous look. "Chief orders it. We loyal, we no ask 'why', we do. He say lay traps, we lay traps. What happen to smooth skins no matter to us, we follow Chief Slizzick's orders to letter. No one go into mountains, no one leave mountains!"
Aviz |
"Sounds like we need to speak to the Chief than..." Aviz mumbles to the group. At least it didn't turn to violence immediately. That's a good sign.
Amaya Shirina |
”It didn’t...matter to you?” Amaya remarks in a deadly soft voice, before letting an awkward silence build. Slowly, despite the light, a shadow falls over her face, shrouding herself in darkness. Behind her, her shadow seemed to grow a little larger, a little leaner, a little hungrier.
Eventually Amaya speaks. ”I am not, a particularly nice person. I try, but sometimes it is just so hard. So everytime I try not to lose my patience and snap, because truthfully I want to snap. I need to snap. So, when I ask you, as I am now, to think of a solution where I can learn why you are building traps, I am recommending that you put your heads together and find something. Or alternatively, continue to frustrate me, please, give me a reason to snap.
I can use basic chaokinesis to basically place myself in shadow, like I am now. There’s no magic words or gestures to do so (unless I’m missing something) so I’m hoping that it’s intimidating as heck

The sorcerer raises his hands, looking at the warrior and yipping out something. The warrior grumbles and plants a hand into his face, rubbing it slightly before taking it off and looking at Amaya nervously. The two glance at each other, before eventually the warrior throws his hands up. "You want meet Chief? Fine, we tell Chief want meet. He tell you reason, we get back to orders. That work?"
Amaya Shirina |
"That sounds...acceptable for now" Amaya responds simply to the kobolds answer
