Brunhild sat on the body of an orc, her head in her hands. All around her she could hear it. The moans of the dying and the screams of those who would live. It had happened *again.* And it only took ten years this time. She had thought that she could have lived within the small community of Kazad Bryn. It was a mining outpost, founded to follow a vein of gold. Miners had been flocking to it and she joined them. For awhile life was good. She didn’t tire, and as long as she pretended to, she was able to more or less fit in. She was a normal person. That is, until the orcs came.

The horde was a large one. It was led by ‘The Beard Burna’, a rather unpleasant orc all things considered. Attracted by the mine’s reputed wealth, the orcs has launched an all out attack under the cover of darkness. They had caught everyone by surprise, as they needed to take the mines before any reinforcements came. The gates and the first hall became a charnel house.

And it was there that Brunhild had stood. She planted her feet at the second gates, which had been torn asunder by a hill giant, and she held. The few soldiers there died soon enough, but the waves of orcs could not dislodge her. Her arrows never ran out. Her bloody axes could be summoned at will. Any wounds done to her healed as fast as they came. The warlord itself had it’s arms torn off and used as improvised cudgels. The miners, once rallied, cams to join her. They pushed out into the first hall, and there they died. The few remaining ones retreated past her and her gate. They had to climb over a mound of corpses to do so. Corpses that Brunhild made.

The night turned into day. The orcs had long ago run out of arrows to shoot at her. They were now running out of bodies. And morale. Even the captured bolt thrower only slowed her down. Her own arrows hit harder in the counter fire.

At length the horde broke, fleeing into the painful glare of the sun. Already Brunhild could see the surviving dwarfs coming out of the depths. Mostly women and children. Far too many of the men had died in their suicidal counter attack.

And...she could hear the whispers. “Warbringer” they said. It was a growing legend. It was said that when a dwarven maiden came with hair of gold and eyes of ice came, then war would soon come. She was the bloody handed harbinger of death. Where she walked, ruin followed. Always there was victory. Always there was loss. Peace never lasted when the Warbringer was near.

She had tried so hard to act like one of them. To live a normal life. But it had happened again. She was starting to believe it. That she wasn’t a defender of her people, but rather a magnet for all that would destroy them. Ten years peace had lasted. Ten years was one of the longest runs that she had. Places which had known peace for generations inevitably picked up arms when she came.

She looked at the survivors with guilt. Widows. Orphans. Grieving fathers and brothers. There would be no victory feast this day. The dead outnumbered the living. The Beard Burna’s Horde was as broken as his body. A cold consolation for the few survivors. She wondered if they could even bury all the dead, or if they would have to wait for more to come.

Brunhild got to her feet. By dwarven standards she stood tall. For a human she would have been short, but the bulging muscles that covered her body made her weigh as much as any human warrior. She was not tired. That was barely possible for her. But her soul was weary.

She resolved, at that moment, that she would leave. She would go as far away as possible, in the hope that her people would know peace.

And so it was that Brunhild began her wandering. Needing no food, water, or even sleep, she walked without direction, without purpose. She easily fell into the role of a mercenary, fighting not only for gold, but to relieve her burden. Never staying in one place for too long, she easily earned the reputation as being a mercenary worth spending coin on.

From the cold of the mountains to the heat of the desert she traveled, following the coin. Until she reached the City of Brass, having completed a contract guarding a caravan. She charged as much as an entire company. She made the contract worth it.

With her contract complete, Brunhild has accepted an invitation from the rules of the city. A problems had arose. It seemed, that war was coming. Brunhild was not surprised.

A rationale for why Brunhild is there.

And for her soloing an Orc Horde, lest anyone think the write up was over the top:

Fast Healing 4 and 5d6 channel. So plenty of healing.
Ranged: 4 shots per round, +20+20+20+15, each doing a minimum of 34 damage. Can Swift action an extra shot. Not counting any buffs.
Close Combat: 2-4 attacks per round. +22/+22/+17/+17, doing 13-22 damage each.
AC36-44. Saves minimum of 24/24/26.

Against standard foes, especially in a choke point, there isn’t much they can do. The toughest orc I could find published is an Orc Chieftain. AC24 HP99.

Hit: 1d20 + 20 ⇒ (19) + 20 = 39
Hit: 1d20 + 20 ⇒ (19) + 20 = 39
Hit: 1d20 + 20 ⇒ (15) + 20 = 35

Down to -3HP if Brunhild is unbuffed. Last shot goes against anything else.

That’s a CR9 best of the best orc killed in under 1 round. Even if it made it into close combat it would need a natural 20 to hit her, doing an average of 13 damage. And with 150HP bolstered by fast healing 4...there just isn’t enough in an orc arsenal to challenge the daughter of the god of war.

——

For fun I did run the numbers for her against some foes. While an orc army would be screwed, something intelligent and powerful like a dragon easily put her in her place.

I think I will keep this simple, Alyln dose not yet have a large cult following, so she would be looking into others. To see how they work, the management structure and communication lines.

The Sister to change, lover of wandering, had walked over land, air and sea, with each step she strode a league. With each step she changed from, from male to female, and all the races of the world. Such was his mode of movement, and in this way she had found himself in the realm of the Empire of Flame. Where sorcerer-kings ruled. And the The Cult of the Forge, a Golthagga cult. Held strong. She wanted to study it, and if she could meet a few Quorrashi. Such was her whimsy of late. Faith was a thing to study if He wanted a cult of her very own. And so in the city of Elzistan/Huzuz, looking like one of the locals he enjoying the simple life and while researching the nature of divine power.

In young boy Elf form Alyln was walking back to her small garret. It was late, the city dark and large, He had just been to a small scroll shop with things to read. He was now walking down a alleyway come back street, when a dark shape came out form the street shadows and stood before her.

"What you got there boy!"

A voice said from under the hood.

Alyln stopped and looked up at the shape, the hood, cloak and all where an illusion. What was behind them was something covered in pockmarks and pustules. What ever race it had been was long ago lost in the rot that covered this being. She know at once it was a follower of the Pestilence Tartan. Behind she felt more then could see other forms moving behind her. letting the scrolls drop to the floor, and reaching two hands Alyln pulled back own his own hood. Taking a moment to see how many they where. Four, four petulance cultists looking for new meat.

"I will give you this one warning, leave me be or you may not like what happens next."

The leader of the plague gang chuckled. Seeing only before him a young male elf.

"O we are going to do such things to yyy..."

He never finished.

There was a wave of magic and one of her attackers disappeared into darkness. Another Shrank in size to that of a dog. Another had all clothing and items become ghost like. Last of all to the one talking a spray of small Gems flow from Alyln and hit all of the attacks in the face. Before falling to the floor.

This brought attention from others in the side street. Her four attackers fled as she bent and picked up her scrolls. And carried in her evening.

So what just happoned, well Alyln's Corona of Fury [godbound] Smight power acts as an Area affect [url=https://www.d20pfsrd.com/magic-items/rods/rod-of-wonder]Rod of wounder[Dice] with saves at DC25. She is immune to her own powers so it was centered on her. What use is a godling of change if her powers do not reflect that. Thematic wise, I think is also add depth to her, a kind of like Brunhild, one crafted as a weapon of war the other as an agent of change.

Everyday now as She walked back to the little garret Alyln had been renting she passed a large butchers market. Everyday as he passed he spotted a another young boy. For she had take then form of a young boy running errands for her master. The other boy was washing down the floors and dragging the large baskets of bones out for the glue makers to collected. One day she/he stuck up a conversation with the child. His name was Mill, and he had no last name. He had been sold to the market owner as a child and put to work at once. Swilling floors and cleaning the chopping tables at the end of the day. At night he slept on one, to act as a guard dog. For food he got lumps of fat and odd scraps of meat.
They would sit and talk for a while. Mill hatted his life, hated the fact he was chained up day and night, hated the endless hard work the cold of night, the stench of dead meat. He would complain and rant but soon be called back to work. One day Alyln said.

"Would you like a chance to change your life. To maybe travel the world, or be rich, or be whisked away to a name place."

"That I would like very much Al"
For Al was the name Alyln was going by while looking like a young elf boy.
"Any thing but this, any thing but endless washing, scrubbing and being kicked out. A chance to change that, Ye I would take it"

Alyln looked into his eyes.

"I have the means to give you that chance. Would you like to"

"What you, you talking like your a high born mage. Like.. O did you steal something of your mage master is that it AL. What is it. Come on Show it us."

Alyln stood up and took a step back.

"You wish to see your chance is that it. Now be 100% sure now."

Mill nodded, there was a gleam in his eyes, hope that was it, there was hope in his eyes. Hope that some how this Al, the runner for a mage has something that could change his life.

"Then so be it"

And Alyln change into her true form. The Eld boy shifted, grow in size, clothing chanced color to purples as did eyes and hair. And from somewhere the sound of children laughing near by. Mill fell back pulling away from the form. Finely Alyln stood her 9' long noble clothing and ears of Silver. Slender and stunningly beautiful. She looked down at the butchers boy.

"I am Alyln, Sister to Chance Brother to Change and I can offer you both if you wish, you need only ask. BUT! before you do, know this, Chance and change can be both good and bad, You chance could lead you to the change of true death. Or that of true kingship. So knowing this what will is be. Will you take a chance for change?"

And into Alyln's hand came a card.

"Take it and see what Chance has for you, Brake your fate and see what change will come."

Alyln waited.

Mill stood and came close.

"This come kind o magic joke Al, you spinning one of them Aluushoons"

Alyln shock her head.

"I sees, will then if you offer is true, then I will takes it"

Alyln nodded,

"Then take the card, we will only know what it is until you look at it, until then the card is blank."

Mill reached out a hand and took the card, his and was trembling, slowly he turned the card.

Dice rolls:

To control outcome: 1d100 ⇒ 76 [No]
Outcome: 1d54 ⇒ 29 The Juggler CG The character gains a +2 bonus to two ability scores of his choice, but must swap them with one another.

On the card as Juggler, suddenly Mills mussels got bigger, he seemed to fill out, arms legs stronger. Heather looking as well.

"Wow, I feel great, strong and my chest dose not hurt any more" The card in his hand flow from it and once more to Alyln's where it faded form view. Mill Reached down to the chain the held him in place and with a mighty tug broke it. There was some sounds from the market and running up to Alyln Mill said.

"Thanks"
And with that speed off as fast as he could run.
Alyln looked after him as he left, shifting back once more into the form of an Elf boy.

::"Do you think he will do well"::
The thing with in her asked.

"Who knows, but he now has a chance to do so, don't you agree."

::"I do, and more to the point he will remember me, tell others about me and who knows may even join the ranks of the faithful"::

And with that Alyln left humming a tone.

Any news GM?

I was still waiting for everyone to finish their characters -- are Tokhaan and Monkey God ready yet?

1 person marked this as a favorite.

The first thing I'm planning on running is a Frog God games desert module for 12th level characters -- but set in Scarn. That's your first journey on the way to the Slarecian domains underground.

I want to see what kind of damage these characters can do -- this is going to be hilarious.

Indeed it will be :)

Also if anyone needs assistance on completing their build, I’d be willing to help

I should have Tokhaan ready later today or early tomorrow (so probably in the night for those in the US).
I'm mainly struggling with finding suitable godling abilities beyond what he has now, though I'm most likely at least picking up Divine Portfolio to grab some things from the Solar Oracle mystery.

I made a change to him in that I swapped out Harbinger for Kineticist with the Psammokinetic archetype, making him a desert based kineticist.
As a result he's less teleport crazy, though he still does his fair share of dimensional hopping. The way I envision it he would vanish in a swirl of sand and dust (all cosmetic of course).

That also links to why is at the start location: he lives in self imposed exile after slaughtering his own family and followers while under the influence of Belsameth. So he is already cast out by Mormo and at this time he actually still receives emotional guidance from Madriel as his sister contacts him in his dreams.

I must note he isn't a follower of Madriel and won't be one, mainly because he thinks it's weird to worship your sister. Instead he holds an animistic belief at this point, speaking with the spirits of the desert.

EDIT: Any feedback on what I have or ideas would be greatly appreciated.

Remember each time you take Divine Portfolio 1 the ranks go up by 1. so taking it again at 1 cost 2 ranks and so on. This one got me until I spotted it.

Yup! It really hit me hard too. Took a lot of time to fix that mess

so everyone ready?

I'm still waiting for everyone to give the go ahead. We're going to start with a desert trek where you're already on the road to a desert clan under siege by the Slarecians.

* Tokhaan: Aasath / Eldritch Godling - Harbringer / Archmage Mythic / Alacrity Word
- Estranged son of Mormo: Goddess of Witches and Hags
missing items, back ground, Godling traits and Domains, mythic, Godbound 3 gifts. Cuas what core word do you think best fits your PC, from that we can work out the rest. Domains Godling traits etc

Player: MonkeyGod
* Dhaunae: Swanmay / Eldritch Godling - Radiant / Hierophant Mythic / Sun Word
- Daughter of Madriel: Goddess of Redemption and Mercy
missing items, back ground, skills, bits of crunch, Godling traits and Domains, mythic, Godbound 3 gifts. + shifted focus to my Yaksha

So we have three players done, two that will be completing.
GM can we start with three and help the others as they need it.

Cuas for your PC how about for your PC
Using Sorcery as your Godbound word
Then you can have.

Godbaound word [Sorcery]

Fray Die: 1d8 Inflict this damage every round to lesser enemies

Perfection of the word [18 Cha]

Gift1: Divine Wrath [Sorcery] (Smite) Action [10d8]
[No Save] [Range: Sight]
Full Round action: You smite a chosen foe within sight with the energies of the Word, inflicting a 1d8 damage die per character level.
You are always immune to the wrath of your own bound Words, as are other entities that wield similar powers. Divine Wrath cannot be used two rounds in a row.

Gift2: Greater Pavis of Rule
You gain spell Resistance of 12 + your Level, Also you gain a +4 bonus on all saving throws versus Mythic spells [Constant].
You may drop both as a full round action. Also 3+Cha rounds per day. You can gain Spell immune to your maximum CL spell level. Theses rounds do not need to be consecutive. For the duration If the spell would not normally allow a save, you can make one without a +4 bonus to resist its effects.

Gift3: Sapphire Wings
The hero can fly at twice their usual movement rate. If undistracted and able to fly in a straight line, they can reach speeds of up to 100 miles an hour.

How dose that sound.

As I mentioned above, I switched from Harbinger to Kineticist using the Psammokinetic archetype from Heroes of the Fringe. Basically he controls the sands now and has the Air and Earth elements (and Air will be his third again)

He has Alacrity now and his second Word later would be Sky. He has his gifts as All Directions at Once (1p) and Faster than Thought (2p)

As for Domains, he actually already has 2: Madness and Desert. The former is his link to his mother and to the events that caused him to become estranged (murdering his family and followers in a mad frenzy induced by Belsameth), it also links to heat strokes. The Desert connects to his new home, the location of his self imposed exile as he fears he is a threat to those around him.
Since we are starting during the divine war he still is healing from those events mentioned above and still in regular communion with his sister Madriel.

He still needs gear, mythic traits and some godling traits, including picking his spell list, though I'm heavily leaning towards Wizard. He also still has 2 minor ascendancies and 1 major ascendancy but I have trouble picking options that fit him. In addition he has 1 Divine Trait point left that will be put into Divine Power, just figuring out which mystery (Ascetism or Solar) and which revelation to pick.
For the kineticist part I still need to pick some infusions, but that's a minor thing.

Just to be clear: Tokhaan despises his mother and almost all she stands for. The only part of her portfolio he still holds dear are serpents.

I'm still deciding whether I'd want the Scalykind or the Serpent domain, the latter being a Druid domain. In part that comes down to a choice between an animal companion or a familiar.

Cool, sound good, soon as your ready I think we are a green to go.

Just let me know and I'll begin, you're basically going to start out in a combat situation, so the characters really do need to be done. I think we can start with 4. Cimmer has a character in one of my other games -- I think he might be busy with childcare right now, so he may join in after we get started.

This is going to be very interesting. Each PC is hyper specialized in one thing or another. Look forward to seeing how this plays out.

Just give me a signal when the group is ready, and I will begin....

Most of the group is ready. How about we begin and Cuan joins once his character is built?

Yes I agree, that way we can get things moving, :)

Dhaunae is actually a lot more finished than what her alias showed. I had forgotten to update it, lol.

yeepppee so we can start

I'm still making up my mind what exactly the first scenario is going to look like -- let's plan on starting Friday and give another day for Tokhaan to finish up.

I put up a first post just to get things started; you're being sent to investigate the trouble hinted at in the in-setting text that begins the post. You can spend the next couple of days filling out the story a bit. You should have gotten together beforehand to deal with this new threat in the desert.

can we do the meet up part, that way we can get a handle on our PCs before the fight and give time for final PC build stuff.

Shaun

Incorporate your backstory into your interactions on the caravan. You were hired by the Seat of Thulkas of the Aurimar Empire to deal with the threat of the slarecians described in the letter. We can spend a week or so doing some character building posts, introducing NPCs, and establishing character relationships. I don't want to backtrack to the city they came from, since that will slow things down unreasonably.

The capital of Zathiske is Quelsk -- so that is where the Seat of Thulkas should have procured their services

um... we seem to have only two of our group here in gameplay? How's it going other dudes and dudettes, are you still playing?

I didn’t know that it was open! Came and checked this thread to give it a bump and look what I find...

GM:

Under Ukrudan Desert I have this.

Ukrudan Desert: This region is as blighted and
devastated as any in Ghelspad. Some asaathi,by means
of the ancient magic that preserved them before and
during the Divine War, manage to live here. With the
exception of one city believed to be in the Swamps of
Kan Thet, the largest remaining community of asaathi
dwell near the center of this wasteland

and this
Splintered River:Long assumed tobe two rivers, the
Splintered River in fact appears to be a single river,
originating in the Gascar Peaksand running toward the
Ukrudan Desert, where it mysteriously drops into the
earth through a great rent in the ground.

Thats all, is this what you ment?

I meant the campaign book not the gazettere, sorry -- it has some more information in it.

Got it

GM,

Wanna open up discussion, so we can keep this clear for people still working on their PCs, or if we need to recruit more?

Just don't think I am going to have the time to dedicate to this unless it is a slow moving campaign. Sorry for the inconvenience (to myself as well as I spent a lot of time on that build) but RL is getting too busy for what I have on my plate already much less adding more to it.

I am sorry to hear that Storyteller. While this does seem to be a slow moving campaign at the moment, I understand the need to be reasonable with one's obligations. Good gaming to you!

If there's need for another player, I'd still like to play Silvertail... :)
