I typed all of that up when I was rushing and hadn't really thought much about it.
At first, it was going to be that if someone who had already acted since the Clockwork Servant had spoken went to draw it, you'd be in combat. The thought there is that it took too long to respond.
I also briefly entertained the idea of making you fight it no matter what, since table 1 didn't and this creature is really cool.
But I would never do that if there are built-in means of bypassing combat. Being clever and creative are what I said this table all about.
So, anyway congratulations guys! You got "defeated" the Clockwork Servant challenge!

GM Newsie |

Nah, y'all got a much harder fight coming .. .. ..
Also!
Just as a heads up, my mom is coming to visit this weekend (well, let's be honest: She's coming to visit her granddaughter. I her father just happen to live in the same house ^_^).
So I'll probably be able to post at some point, but I can't guarantee it.
Thanks!

I superimposed the graphic from d20pfsrd to show you, in what direction the missed bomb should have fallen. Since it was within the first range increment, it drops one square from the intenden target. It should probably be the square above the ghoul and left of Guru.

Thomas 'Bellmanok' Riverdancer |

I think the ghoul has 8 hp less than originally. We just don't know his current hp

Thomas 'Bellmanok' Riverdancer |

This is my favorite table and game. With a low amount of active people we have actual progress. We're still behind the other table AFAIK.
I hope we level up soon, though.

GM Newsie |

Good work, Hanzo. Please remember to apply your -1 penalty to anything you also add your DEX bonus to.
I was hoping to get another attack on someone with that ghoul. He gets 3 attacks if he doesn't move. And each one can paralyze, and its bite can infect with Ghoul Fever.
Someone from Table 1 got it, but they don't know. And it'll be annoying to get rid of, potentially:
Disease (Su)
Ghoul Fever: Bite – injury; save Fort DC 13; onset 1 day; frequency 1/day; effect 1d3 Con and 1d3 Dex damage; cure 2 consecutive
saves. The save DC is Charisma-based.
A humanoid who dies of ghoul fever rises as a ghoul at the next midnight. A humanoid who becomes a ghoul in this way loses all of its
former abilities. It is not under the control of any other ghouls, but it hungers for the flesh of the living and behaves like a normal ghoul in all
respects. A humanoid of 4 HD or more rises as a ghast.

GAH. Stupid Win10 Home! The update corrupted something so badly I lost internet access completely yesterday. Sorry for the delay, everyone. Hopefully it's fixed now.

Hanzo Belkin |

Hey everyone, sorry for my silence. I'm stealing a minute at work to let you know that my home internet is completely borked. Please bot Hanzo and Jori until I can get it working again.
Cheers, and Happy Thanksgiving to those of you in the US!

Candid discussion: even if we manage to survive this fight, it looks like this game may have stalled out, given that one of our players (with 2 PCs) is unable to post. I'm still holding out hope that she or he can re-join us, but it has been 2 weeks with no communication. What is the plan if s/he can't return? We can look for a new player (or two), run multiple PCs per player, or abandon the game and hopefully start a new one. I'd hate to do the last because we had such a good rhythm there for a while, and I really enjoyed the characters. What do you think?

Thomas 'Bellmanok' Riverdancer |

I love this table so much, too. I definitely want to go on! Even if means playing two PCs in one campaign. Which is actually better than playing two in two, now that I think about it. Less book keeping.

GM Newsie |

I've sent a message to the player (have not heard a response). I definitely do not want abandon the game.
Thoughts at the moment:
I want to be understanding if someone cannot post due to connectivity/network issues / forces outside one's control.
(But it's not fair to the other players to stall the game while waiting for one. Especially if the one player is two characters).
For the duration of this battle, I'll continue to bot Hanzo/Joriannika.
In the long-term (if the player does not return), would the two of you prefer me to find more players for the campaign, or for you each to play two PC's?
More players means less hassle for you two, though increased opportunities for situations like this. 2 players would probably mean the pace of the campaign will increase dramatically, because the two of you post nearly every day.
I will let you decide if you'd rather play an additional PC or me find extra players.
(Ultimately, I'm really hoping he/she returns! I love the four characters we have here.)
**Other solution: We leave the party as just Thomas and Guruthos..... which, while that might sound like a terrible, terrible idea, has a plus side: after this battle, you'll be level 3, not level 2. Whenever you level up, it's 2 at time.
You'd have to learn to work together, of course. ;)

GM Newsie |

Also, if we get a TPK, I don't know how it's usually done.. but I figure you can essentially "re-spawn"/"load last save".
We'll start the fight over with the first attack, which was the ranged kobold, I believe. You'll have full health, but any usable items, daily slots or allotments (bombs, abilities, spells, etc) are still used up. That way I don't have to nerf the battle, and you can earn your victory.
As I said, I don't want this table to end, but I don't want it to be boring with no high stakes.

Thomas 'Bellmanok' Riverdancer |

I'm torn between playing two PCs or double level ups and a two-player team. I have no idea how balanced the latter is.
Adding strangers is only my third favourite option. We could have an awesome pace with only three people involved.
I'm sure Guru and Thomas can come to an arrangement :)
Thanks for the load last save option. I always wondered, why that is not an option.
What is Guruthos' development plan? Full on caster and debuff witch? It will probably still be the skills-guy, right?
Edit: I thought a little about it and talked to some. Double leveling will quickly escalate. Mathematically, 2 PCs would nee to be two levels higher than 4 PCs, in terms of APL and CR.
Gestalt is another option, but in the end action economy will always be a problem.

Guruthos |

I hadn't thought of going just 2 characters. My initial plan with Guruthos was to do a single level-dip in rogue, then go witch from 2nd on, but if we're considering a 2 person team, it might be better for him to alternate with rogue. I'd have to look at stats.
Here's the thing, if top Jori/Hanzo comes back, would it be easier for us to drop extra PCs, or adjust levels? I'm fine with either, but if down the road we decide to add another player (be it Jori/Hanzo returning, or a new player), it might be easier for us to drop "secondary" PCs than adjust our levels. What do y'all think?

Thomas 'Bellmanok' Riverdancer |

True. We save ourselves a lot of (mathematical, balance) trouble, when just adding a secondary character. And we can save the spots in case he comes back.
Let's do that.

Guruthos |

If that works for you GM Newsie, I'll work on a secondary this evening. Thomas, any idea what kind of secondary you would like to play? I'm relatively open,. but if I stick with my witchy type, that sorta covers the arcane caster. Then again, nothing says we have to fill the "traditional roles."

Thomas 'Bellmanok' Riverdancer |

No we, don't and your character covers two of the traditional roles already. Thomas will cover the brute role and can use a wand of CLW. So, we're not really missing anything important already.
A dps archer and a secondary melee could be useful. Someone with a reach weapon or to flank with. Probably a 3/4 BAB class. Maybe some way to buff a little...

GM Newsie |

Sounds okay for me. So each will create a new PC? Okay, I'm sure we'll meet them relatively soon.
As a reminder: any Core or Base (except cavalier, vigilante, vampire hunter) class is allowed; if you want to use a hybrid class, I'm okay with bloodrager and hunter (because I'm slightly more familiar with them). I can easily be persuaded on the others, just let me know first so I can take a look before I decide.
If something has an unchained option, I'd prefer you take that; again, I can be persuaded.
Make sure to create them at Level 2.

Guruthos |

Well, if I stay with Rogue 1/Witch 2+ G's ability to cover both roles will likely diminish, but we can figure that out. Here are some ideas that have swirled around my head for a while:
1. Buddy Cannon - Human gunslinger and all-around swell guy.
2. Rufus Musonius - Dwarven fighter and philosopher.
3. W31rD - Android Investigator (not sure how GM feels about alternate races)
4. Zeneka, the elven arcanist I mentioned at the beginning.
I have some others written down somewhere. I wouldn't necessarily mind trying out some of the newer classes (shifter, Occult classes, etc), but I'm not 100% familiar with them and don't have them on Hero Lab, so I'd have to build them by hand. That's fine, but I would need more time to finish them. Or I could toy with a druid, hunter, unchained monk, or some other such ideas.

Thomas 'Bellmanok' Riverdancer |

I would like to play a human Divine Hunter of Immonhiel, the empyreal lord of healing and toads, with a giant frog AC. He's a secondary combatant and has the Battlefield Surgeon trait.

Thomas 'Bellmanok' Riverdancer |

what wealth should our secondary character bring with them? starting gp + whatever the current party looted, or 1000 gp as in the wealth-by-level table?
And can I take the Battlefield Surgeon trait without being a follower of Zon-Kuthon? That is just weird.

Hanzo Belkin |

Hey everyone, I'm really, really sorry for my long silence. My internet was out at home, and my contract ended so I didn't have access at work, and to top it off, as soon as work ended I got sick. Home internet is now fixed, and I'm back now if it's okay with all of you. (Though, I will be traveling on Monday, and unable to post.)
- Hanzo and Jori

Hanzo Belkin |

The dicebot is generous today! :O Nice roll, Thomas! If our GM allows the Diplo-AA switch, we're at 30!
A kobold cohort would be fun! XD Though I guess it would break the rules a bit if she started out hostile...? She doesn't SEEM that hostile, though. Just unfriendly.

Thomas 'Bellmanok' Riverdancer |

unless you're a human with "silver-tongued" you can only shift her two steps. We won't make her helpful ever.

GM Newsie |

Table 1's rogue is a Thug, who beat Sesserak into being friendly for a period of time. The description literally said:
You can use Intimidate to force an opponent to act friendly toward you...
...If successful, the opponent will:
…give you information you desire
…take actions that do not endanger it
…offer other limited assistance
Needless to say, Sesserak told them more than I'd intended her to.

Guruthos |

Side note: Hanzo was actually the first in the party to see Guruthos' face unmasked.
(( Aug 8, 2018, 05:00 pm ))
Hanzo started to take a step back from Guruthos, then caught himself. *Either it's not contagious, or you already caught it, stupid,* he scolded himself mentally.
Draping a solicitous arm around the elf, Hanzo gave the sheriff a woeful look, and patted Guruthos' arm. "He has to wear it, you see. He's an elf, it's their way," he lied. "It soothes the pain of... the incident. Taking it off just brings up bad memories, and for an elf, that can be a big burden to bear. Long lives, you know. They carry it all inside," he sighed, choked up for a moment on crocodile tears.
"The money was going to help with the healer... I don't suppose you could see your way clear to letting Silas pay us before you take him away, could you? For his sake," Hanzo clarified.
Hells Bells, have we been playing this game for four months already?! It feels like we just started! Time flies when you're having fun!

GM Newsie |

The combat is over, which means you all get to LEVEL UP!
For leveling up, please make a post here in the discussion thread detailing the things that you gain for your new level and make your HP rolls (you can re-roll a 1, but only once per level...if that makes sense).
Remember to update all of your saves, perception, initiative and HP totals in the stat tracker on the maps link. I will always just grab the roll generators there when you need saves, and I leave it up to the players to make sure those are correct and up to date.

Guruthos |

w00t! B@@~%in'! Er... I mean witchin'!
witch hp: 1d6 ⇒ 6
In character, Gu would be fine with being called "Gu," but would likely not look favorably upon being called "Gooey," despite (or maybe because of) it being an apt descriptor of his physical appearance.
I'll try to update tonight.
