What a mess!Mao and Aurus have to flee, but their mounts don't. Does that mean they will jump off and swim, or does that mean they will try to get their mounts to leave? In either case they are in trouble and out of the fight for a long time. And Bunyip meat. Travail and mount are both paniced and will both dash off into the sunset. Lukian and Cloudia, the not combatants, could stick around if they feel like swimming while casting their spells, but would soon become bunyip meat too. No thanks.
Cloudia tucks her wand of burning hands away and casts Bless, which grants a +1 vs. fear. Not sure if that helps, but I can hope. Then she holds on for dear life as her mount dashes off.
Have we had a chance to regenerate spells? Cloudia only gets 5 and she has used up 3, now 4.

See discussion thread: As your mount is running, your spell can only be cast when your mount has finished half its move (60x4/2=120), so everyone except yourself and your mount will be out. Also it would require a concentration check. Furthermore, no new spells as it is all the same day. Unless you heroically (and maybe a bit out of character) dismount and stand your ground, you'll be out of the fight as well.

Ack! That's no good. 120' is too far for that spell. Cloudia may be self conscious and unconfident, but she is not a coward and has a great sense of loyalty. She would stick around if there was a chance.
Let me know what you all think of this plan. Ride the fleeing mount half way and dismount, fast dismount, drop her wand of burning hands, draw her wand of magic missile, and zap the weakest Bunyin. Next round she will go under but she has water breathing. Start casting summon monster spells and send in celestial dolphins.

Lukian has the same basic option. Given enough aid tokens and dolphin hits we could win this. Just hope we get one passed to us soon after we use this one.

Almost there, but too many move actions if you fail your ride check. voluntarily failing your ride check and getting thrown off the bolting seahorse would work! and as you are faling into water, there won't be any damage.
If you don't mind I'll "Fast Forward", as having 3/5 players out of the fight forsuch a long time is no fun.
Cloudia's mount bolts and Cloudia is thrown off. While sinking to the bottom she draws her wand of Magic Missiles and shoots at the wounded bunyip, while calling for aid from above. (Using the Gulgamodh assistance boon for an extra d8 of damage)
Damage: 1d4 + 1 + 1d8 ⇒ (2) + 1 + (3) = 6, which is just enough to knock it out and leave it bleeding.

GM Auke |

Bunyip Red Stabilize: 1d20 ⇒ 20
The unconscious bunyip stabilizes.
Lukian follows suit and also lets himself thrown off as his mount flees away.
The gnome casts a Summon Monster Spell while sinking to the seafloor.
Mao's mount bleeds Bleed: 1d6 ⇒ 3, but is still conscious!
Aurus and Mao command their mount to flee away as fast as possible.
The remaining Bunyip follows the source of fresh blood and follows Mao.
Cloudia sinking mount panicked
Travail Panicked, mount panicked
Bunyip Red Unconscious
Lukian mount panicked
Aurus panicked
Mao panicked, mount bleeding

Lukian's summon appears. Lukian casts speak with animals and tells it to get to him. The dolphin swims to Lukian.
Without a fresh bloodtrail and the hippocampi moving too fast for it, it returns to the battlefield and moves next to the dolphin.
Cloudia's dolphin appears as well, Lukian asks it to flank the bunyip.
Cloudia activates the inspire competence boon from the grand lodge mission and uses her wand of magic missile.
Magic Missile: 1d4 + 1 ⇒ (2) + 1 = 3
The dolphin complies and attacks!
To Hit: 1d20 + 3 + 1 + 2 ⇒ (17) + 3 + 1 + 2 = 23 for Damage: 1d4 + 2 ⇒ (4) + 2 = 6
Lukian's dolphin also attacks!
To Hit: 1d20 + 3 + 1 + 2 ⇒ (15) + 3 + 1 + 2 = 21 for Damage: 1d4 + 2 ⇒ (2) + 2 = 4
Lukian draws his wand of mage armor and uses it on his dolphin.
Wow, that was a stupidly effective round!

GM Auke |

Cloudia drops her wand of burning hands draws her wand of clw and uses her wand of magic missile.
1d4 + 1 ⇒ (4) + 1 = 5
Lukian moves and uses his wand of mage armor on Cloudia's dolphin.
Bleed: 1d6 ⇒ 4
dolphins continue their attacks
To Hit: 1d20 + 3 + 2 + 1 ⇒ (9) + 3 + 2 + 1 = 15 for damage: 1d4 + 1 + 1 ⇒ (4) + 1 + 1 = 6
To Hit: 1d20 + 3 + 2 + 1 ⇒ (11) + 3 + 2 + 1 = 17 for damage: 1d4 + 1 + 1 ⇒ (4) + 1 + 1 = 6

GM Auke |

Cloudia and Lukian can retrieve all the wands and weapons dropped by their allies.
When the panic runs out, the Mao, Travail and Aurus round up the two other hippocampi and go back to Cloudia and Lukian.
Aurus heals the two injured hippocampi and everyone is good to go again!
(minus some spell slots and wand charges)
Fast forwarded total cost:
2x mage armor (Lukian)
4x magic missile (Cloudia)
1x Summon Monster I (Lukian)
1x Summon Monster I (Cloudia)
3x CLW (Aurus)
Boon Grand Lodge
Boon Scarab Sages
Boon Silver Crusade

With the rabid beasts gone there is nothing stopping your approach to the Black Swan. As you get near the ship of the dead you command your hippocampi to drive under only to surface again next to the ship.
With the grappling hooks & ropes in the saddlebags of your hippocampi you can now try and board the ship in one of two ways:

That is about what I would have done. I would have summoned a second dolphin rather than shot the MM on the third round, but things would probably have gone the same way. And, I hate to say it, I don't think you can use an aid token to boost a MM. I think you need to have rolled a to-hit to do that. We also had a few reroll enemy attack and reroll d20 boons that could be used (not to mention the rerolls you can get from owning a character portfolio or Paizo t shirt or GM stars) and one of the PCs might have wanted to reroll that ST vs. being panicked given a chance. But that is just me being anal. I am happy with the way the combat turned out (any result with out a PK is good as far as I'm concerned).
"I don't think I'm up for a lot of climbing. That last fight with all the swimming has really tired me out. Lets go in through there."
Cloudia points at the most accessible hole in the side of the ship.

That is about what I would have done. I would have summoned a second dolphin rather than shot the MM on the third round, but things would probably have gone the same way.
I agree another summon would be the better choice (and my initial thought as well), but the battle was going quite nicely already and I didn't want to use up all your spells per day, as there is quite a lot of combat still ahead.
And, I hate to say it, I don't think you can use an aid token to boost a MM.
They actually changed the wording on the allied offensive aid token compared to previous specials. My (GM freedom) interpretation is that they did this to also allow a boost in ranged or spell damage. Also this is the specific Scarab Sage Boon which mentions Gulgamodh's arcane cannon.
We also had a few reroll enemy attack
You only have 1 of those
and reroll d20 boons that could be used
You had one of those and you've already used that one
(not to mention the rerolls you can get from owning a character portfolio or Paizo t shirt or GM stars) and one of the PCs might have wanted to reroll that ST vs. being panicked given a chance.
Actually I send out an email when the roar happened just for that resaon, and I would have granted the reroll if someone had asked. :-)
Also: there's still a lot of adventure still ahead! But that is just me being anal. I am happy with the way the combat turned out (any result with out a TPK is good as far as I'm concerned).
I agree ;-)

GM Auke |

not to mention the rerolls you can get from owning a character portfolio or Paizo t shirt or GM stars
NB: GM stars don't grant rerolls themselves, they only add a bonus to a reroll gained from a shirt or portfolio.
Also: which of the players does own a shirt or portfolio? I know Lukian does (and needed to use it on the concentration check against the Bulls). I'm asking as I can grant 2 rerolls to people who don't have rerolls themselves.

These ships once carried an array of ballistae below deck, though centuries of moldering underwater have left the siege weapons as little more than waterlogged lumps. doorframes at both the bow and stern of the ship lead to cabins, but the doors themselves haven't survived the centuries.

Aurus moves to the stairs, drawing his greatsword on the move. He's been grimly quiet during the boarding, beyond even stealth, like he's taking the panic from the bunyip fight personally.
I was going to move and post for Travail too but I can't move him on Roll20, FYI.

Aurus moves to the stairs, drawing his greatsword on the move. He's been grimly quiet during the boarding, beyond even stealth, like he's taking the panic from the bunyip fight personally.
Aurus uses the loudly creaking stairs to the upper decks and manages to spot the captain and two of his crew on the poop deck. They look at you with a unholy menance!
The creaking of the stairs has also alerted others, as you hear moaning coming from both cabins.
Aurus Knowledge (religion): 1d20 ⇒ 6
Aurus Knowledge (religion): 1d20 ⇒ 9
Aurus sees they are corporeal undead, but has no clue on what they are exactly.
Ok, you've managed to trigger the second encounter as well! TIP: Now would be a good time to activate the Dark Archive boon. Also I need some time to prepare the poop deck, as I didn't think you would go there this soon!

![]() |

Cloudia pokes her head through the portal and casts a DC 16 grease spell in front of the stern cabin (as marked).
Definitely activate the anti-undead Dark Archive boon, but wait until the undead appear. Once they come through the doors, then we activate it. Do we also want the extra HP from the Grand Lodge? If we are taking on a double encounter that sounds like a good idea.

GM Auke |

Botting Travail.
Travail moves into a position where he can shoot creatures while they try to cross the grease.
Mao moves to cover Aurus' flank, while moving he looks into the cabin.

He would like to cast glitterdust on the biggest grouping he can, trying to get the Captain in the area.
You'll have to wait for Aurus to move, as you need to be at least in his position to have line of sight to the captain and your move can only get you to that spot.
So I'll keep you in delay for now :-)

GM Auke |

Botting Lukian
Lukian decides there are not enough sparkly undead in the world and moves behind Aurus and casts glitterdust, hitting both the captain and the pink lacedon.
