Siege Lord Wynsal Starborn rides toward the gate accompanied by several mounted soldiers. They help dispatch the last of the enemies in the area before the Siege Lord motions for you to speak with him.
The Siege Lord removes his steel helmet for a moment, shaking out his braided hair beaded with the teal and gold colors of Absalom’s flag. With a respectful nod and congratulatory salute, he introduces himself.
“I am Wynsal Starborn, once captain of the First Guard and now the Siege Lord ensuring Absalom’s safety. You fought bravely, and thanks to your help, we’ve got the situation under control here.”
“I am less confident about affairs beyond our gates, though we could seize control of the tides of war with a targeted strike by capable operatives like you. As you probably noticed, those fiendish abominations are quite tough, but they’re not very organized. In fact,
I saw two groups of them fighting each other until one of the minotaur commanders sorted them out. We might be able to use their lack of discipline against them!”
“I’ve heard the Pathfinder Society has already done a great deal for the city today. While I’m reticent to ask more, I cannot afford to surrender your expertise. I ask that you sneak past enemy lines, seek out Huntmaster Minawar, and kill that horned beast. The First Guard will be ready to exploit the opening.”

After you've travelled to the cairnlands, you can spot a black-and-red banner with a bull’s head on it flying above the shattered remains of an ancient siege castle. A group of groaning, hunched creatures stitched together from strange flesh patrol the ruins.
Knowledge Arcana
Lukian: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (10) + 7 = 17
Aurus: 1d20 ⇒ 10
Lukian recognizes the creatures as wax golems. Medium constructs, immune to all magic, except fire magic. As they are not intelligent Lukian figures the party can try and sneak past.
Stealth
Mao: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (14) + 7 = 21 Succes
Lukian: 1d20 + 2 + 4 ⇒ (14) + 2 + 4 = 20 Succes
Cloudia: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (15) + 2 = 17 Succes
Aurus: 1d20 + 2 - 4 ⇒ (10) + 2 - 4 = 8 Failure
With 4 players you need 3 successes, so you've avoided the wax golems
| GM Auke |
Within the ruins, a towering humanoid creature with a bull’s head is observing the battle and issuing commands to demonflesh creatures. Tiny homunculi race off to deliver orders across the battlefield’s churned soil. A blood-red symbol depicting a bull’s head adorns the bull-headed creature’s armor.
Knowledge Religion or Planes
Aurus: 1d20 ⇒ 10
Mao: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (11) + 6 = 17
Lukian: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (2) + 7 = 9
Mao realizes that the bull symbol on the commander’s armor is actually a minotaur’s head, and that it’s a stylized unholy symbol of the demon lord Baphomet.
I'm assuming Mage Armor has been reapplied and that Lukian used his pearl of power to regain a spell (Please let me know which one). Also assuming Cloudia is holding a wand and scroll of her choice.
You've got a surprise round!
Cloudia: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (9) + 2 = 11
Aurus: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (11) + 2 = 13
Lukian: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (18) + 6 = 24
Mao: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (15) + 5 = 20
Huntmaster Minawar: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (11) + 2 = 13
rolloff
Aurus: 1d20 ⇒ 12
Huntmaster Minawar: 1d20 ⇒ 7
Cloudia (surprise round)
Aurus (surprise round)
Lukian (surprise round)
Mao (surprise round)
Lukian (regular round)
Mao (regular round)
Aurus (regular round)
Huntmaster Minawar

| 1 person marked this as a favorite. |
Cloudia has a Potion of Displacement, but gives it to Aurus to drink for this one and instead drinks the potion of invisibility before they approach the command center. She does NOT cast mage armor on herself, but will cast it on Mao.
The invisible Cloudia casts bless on the group in the surprise round.
"I got your back!"

The only 1st level spell I have cast is Magic Missile but that was from my arcane bond with my wand
Which potions do we have again.

I remember a certain Color Spray ;-) And a Summon Monster I :-)
Which potions do we have again.
You were quite busy at the time, so I think it slipped your mind to actually choose. I'll let you pick now from these lists:
Choose one 2rd level potion:
Potion of Barkskin
Potion of Fox's Cunning
Potion of Invisibility
Potion of Lesser Restoration
Choose one 3rd level potion:
Potion of Fly
Potion of Heroism
Potion of Magic Circle vs Evil
Potion of Displacement

Oh yeah, let's use that boon.
Aurus draws the potion of Haste he had picked up before. "Hit 'em hard and fast, right?" he says to the others. When he feels the magic take effect, he hurls the bottle to his feet, yells "ABSALOOOOOOOOOOM!!!" as loud as he can, and hustles into the fray.
Ruling on whether I could have drawn the potion during the sneaking period? If so, I'd go:
Suprise round: Drink potion
Regular round: Move (up to 50 feet now with Liberty's edge and haste), ready longbow shot against the first visible enemy.
If not, drinking the potion would happen instead of the bow.
Damage: 1d8 + 3 ⇒ (7) + 3 = 10
Aurus Goldson

Great! Then I'll have drank my potion of Blur too. Tanktanktank!
Cloudia
|
I guess Cloudia will keep the potion of displacement if Aurus is not going to drink it. She may choose to force it down someone's throat in the near future! Gonna want to stay invisible so she is going all out support mode.

I got the armor and the Blur up, so I'm all for sharing some of the damage-avoidance :)

Drinking potion of bull's strength on surprise round. Will also move for round 1
| GM Auke |
@Mao & Lukian
Maybe you've not totally understood my generosity. I'm allowing you having the minute buffs (like Bull's Strength, Fly and Invisibility) to be running before the surprise round.
So in the Surprise round you can start drinking your round/level buffs (like Displacement, Haste and the like). (Which you can even have in hand)
Mao Asaka
|
oh ok. So both displacement and bull's strength active prior to 1st round for Mao. Thank you for the clarification.
Cloudia

oh ok. So both displacement and bull's strength active prior to 1st round for Mao. Thank you for the clarification.
Displacement is a round per level, so it would not be active before init. You could have the bull's strength active pre-init and drink the displacement in the surprise round and get 5 rounds of displacement.
Cloudia does a double move, potion of CSW in one hand and Potion of Displacement in the other, keeping up with the fighters.

Aurus rounds the corner, bow in hand, and finds a shot through some columns that look too small for the minotaur to charge through. "Hey, ugly!" He fires an arrow.
Attack: 1d20 + 5 + 1 ⇒ (2) + 5 + 1 = 8
Damage: 1d8 + 3 ⇒ (5) + 3 = 8

He flies at triple his speed.
Not at a place where I can place myself as my work computer doenst have rolld20

Mao hurries towards Aurus and places himself behind one of the broken pillars.
Double move
| GM Auke |
Aurus rounds the corner, bow in hand, and finds a shot through some columns that look too small for the minotaur to charge through. "Hey, ugly!" He fires an arrow.
Mao's arrow misses.
"Your insults are lacking."
The Minotaur rapidly shoots 3 arrows at Aurus.
To Hit: 1d20 + 11 + 1 - 2 ⇒ (4) + 11 + 1 - 2 = 14
To Hit: 1d20 + 11 + 1 - 2 ⇒ (13) + 11 + 1 - 2 = 23 Blurr Misschance: 1d100 ⇒ 25 Hits for Damage: 2d6 + 6 + 1 ⇒ (4, 4) + 6 + 1 = 15
To Hit: 1d20 + 6 + 1 - 2 ⇒ (4) + 6 + 1 - 2 = 9
One of the three massive arrows hits Aurus and the impact makes him realize it might not have been wise to antagonize her.
Party is up!
Mao Asaka

Mao runs up towards Huntmaster Minawar and delivers a punch towards the gut.
Unarmed, Stunning Strike: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (19) + 7 = 26
Damage: 1d6 + 3 ⇒ (4) + 3 = 7
Aurus Goldson
|
Aurus looks at the gaping wound. "Well sh**," he says, "I ain't having a bow fight against no one-man ballista." He tosses the bow behind the pillar, calls upon his paladin-ic might for 1d6 ⇒ 3 points of healing, and runs behind the minotaur in order to get a flank with Mao, drawing the greatsword in one clean pull as he goes.
"They weren't insults - they were observations, ugly," yells the paladin as he swings his sword around his head.
Power Attack: 1d20 + 6 + 1 + 2 - 1 ⇒ (2) + 6 + 1 + 2 - 1 = 10
Damage: 2d6 + 4 + 3 ⇒ (3, 2) + 4 + 3 = 12
Cloudia
|
Cloudia makes a double move towards the battle, keeping quiet so as to not give away her position.

Botting Lukian
Lukian finishes his summons and a tiny celestial poisinous frog appears.
It smites evil and attacks the minotaur.
To Hit: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (11) + 3 = 14 Misses
I going to assume that Lukian retreived his Summon Monster I spell earlier and that he's casting it now. If you want to something else, we'll retcon.

Sounds good. And I like to keep the aid tokens moving.
Cloudia casts a nice slippy DC 15 grease spell under the minotaur.
The she moves up next to the minotaur, figuring she will present an unexpected blockage if it tries to sidestep again, and also getting into position to deliver her potion next turn.

You do realize that casting the grease will break your invisibility?
The spell ends if the subject attacks any creature. For purposes of this spell, an attack includes any spell targeting a foe or whose area or effect includes a foe

Aurus steps forward, smiling grimly, feeling the energies of the haste potion and the bardic performance coursing through him. "Oh yeah, that's the stuff." He begins to whirl the greatsword about his head, supernaturally fast.

Ack. Check that. Put the grease to the west of the minotaur so that if it moves there it will slip, and move Cloudia to the east.

The Minotaur shoots another volley of arrows at Aurus (provoking).
To Hit Mao AoO: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (6) + 10 = 16 Miss
To Hit Aurus AoO: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (2) + 9 = 11 Miss

Aurus goes down!
The minotaur grunts "That's for calling me ugly" steps back and shoots her 3rd arrow at Mao.
To Hit: 1d20 + 6 + 1 - 2 ⇒ (3) + 6 + 1 - 2 = 8

Based on Maths, I believe Aurus would be down at -6 if I take both those arrows, so... Time to go bold
When the minotaur tries to shoot him, Aurus attempts to cut the bow in half.
Sunder attempt, Adamantine Greatsword: 1d20 + 6 + 1 + 1 + 2 - 1 ⇒ (15) + 6 + 1 + 1 + 2 - 1 = 24
Damage: 2d6 + 7 ⇒ (3, 3) + 7 = 13
If that fails to work...
Stabilize Con check DC 16: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (5) + 2 = 7
Aurus lies quietly, arrows sticking out of his chest - but he still breathes.
