Sari |
Is it my turn? I'm assuming the freaks stayed where they were? I, too, shall stay where I am.
Sari mutters to herself, "I'm SURE this isn't what mother meant when she said I should go out and 'find myself'. What I need to do is find some new places to hang out."
Sari hurls a magic missile at the freak she hit before. Spell resistance roll is 13 +2 = 15. The magic missile hits with 3 +1 for 4 points of damage. I'm now down to 10 spell points.
"Take that, you disgusting beast! The freak, Cha, not you."
Yod Akarn |
So I ran into the room and sheathed my morningstar and got out the crossbow. Then the 2 freaks came in and then I loaded my crossbow.
I probably would not have loaded once I saw the freaks, but since I have the +1bab I should be able to drop the loaded crossbow and get out the morningstar while moving and then attack on my next turn yes or no??
DM Luke |
It's actually Eberk we're waiting on. He gets an AoO, then I will finish resolving the quasit's turn. Sari's action can probably stand as stated, though.
Yod, I think you should be able to do that on your turn. Drop the loaded Crossbow (free action) and move/draw/attack. Wait until I've finished resolving the quasit's turn and sent out a new map though. Your intentions may change. Kick your dwarven wife in the butt and get her to make her attack.
DM Luke |
Yod - Hey, no pressure from me. You and Sari are the ones posting out of turn!
DM Luke |
Eberk whirls with a backhand chop that feels like it hit a flying rock. The jar registers up his arm, but the effect is certainly much worse on the receiving end of the blow. There's a crunching impact behind you and a croaking roar of pain. There are words in Abyssal within the cry.
spoiler for anyone with Abyssal
"Demon mother take thee. The magic be lost!"
You still cannot see the beast.
Sari's missile swerves around Cha and impacts on the side of the freak's head. It staggers from the blow, plainly close to going down.
New map on the way. Eberk's turn again.
DM Luke |
Eberk, roll the d10 to see if you would hit the creature, if it's in that square, and if your attack would hit. 1-5 is a miss.
DM Luke |
No problem. Your action doesn't hang on her result.
Yod's attack smashes the misshapen creature to the ground where it lays twitching.
Now Ishah, then Cha. Ishah continues to attack the same beast. Chris, go ahead and make that roll.
DM Luke |
Damn, everybody's dice are on fire. My dice aren't on fire...
The monster staggers and Ishah jumps and takes it by the throat. It splays backwards, its awkward legs collapsing under her weight. She's got the thing in a killing vice and she's shaking it savagely. Her snout is red with its blood and her eyes speak her raw animal fury.
Eberk's axe swishes twice through the thin air where the demon was. Its wheezing chuckles echo off the walls.
Go ahead Cha. No real need for Eberk to make that roll - THIS time :)
DM Luke |
No map to adjudicate that move or to take an action for the other side. I'll have to do those things when I get home tonight. Cha, FYI, I think that puts you at 3 spell points left. Correct me if I'm wrong.
Also, Yod, if you have not seen my latest post on the discussion thread, please take a look. A revised ruling on Disarm can be found there (Not that its relevant to this combat).
DM Luke |
Sorry Melissa, but if you're going to insist on sleeping, you might not have the dedication it takes to play this game.
Actually, I was trying to drop the subtle hint that the creature wasn't in that square, ie. that the roll wasn't necessary. Subtlety and sarcasm are two things that come through poorly in this medium.
Cha, didn't you cast light on the wall?
DM Luke |
I did the whole ranged touch thing because you were aiming where Eberk was pointing before. If you want to pick a square like that blindly, you don't need to make a touch attack at all.
Cha's magic splashes glowing fire at the doorway, catching a small, slight humanoid creature with bat-like wings and a curling tail. It curses you in its unholy language, gestures with one of its hands, and suddenly it's whispering, hideous laughter echoes in your brain sowing a maddening sense of fear. Everyone make a Will Save vs fear, DC 14.
DM Luke |
oh wait I think I see something.
You certainly did for just a second.
The thing is surprisingly fast and maneuverable. It darts back beyond the double doors and flies out of your sight. At least the last time you saw it, it was truly visible and highlighted by green faerie fire.
Those of you who made the save are shaken for 1 round.
Eberk, you are officially freaked out by the little monster. You got a good look at her - it's definitely a her - and she's scaly and revolting to look at. She's also carrying a little blade like a dagger sized for her.You get to be frightened for 4 rounds.
New map on the way. Sari's turn.
DM Luke |
Your missile winds its inevitable way across the room and smacks the mirth right out of the little demon's laughter. She shouts in indignation and fixes Sari with a malicious glare.
Eberk is going to spend his turn running. This is your first round of fright. Melissa, go ahead and declare your new position. Yod can go ahead.
Yod Akarn |
I want to pick up the still loaded crossbow but not sheath the morningstar yet and carry both out into the other room say to 24,8
I would like to move further into the room but I figured pausing to pick up the crossbow would limit me to 30' of movement
No new map yet so not sure wheather I could aim at anything or not. Remind me to keep an eye out for a wand of magic missles next time we are shopping! Guess we should have bought the sword token when we had the chance
DM Luke |
The map really is on the way now. Pam's new position is not reflected on it. The funny thing is I make the maps, I just forget to send them. Oops.
Eberk, send your position behind a spoiler.
spoiler for All But Eberk (ABE)
You can see the quasit as soon as you enter the room. It's about five feet above the source of the orange glow, in the back of the chamber. Like I said, it is fast.
Yod, send position when you see the map.
Ishah continues to savage the creature she has by the throat. Its neck breaks.
Cha's turn.
DM Luke |
spoiler for Eberk
Sorry Eberk, but that's running towards the sound of the guns, which doesn't work. (27,3) is actually almost adjacent to the square where the quasit is, and she's visible now. I think you pretty much have to run back the way the party came, which is going to be (15,14) or thereabouts.
Cha tuk |
Gone for the weekend, but now I'm back. Time to swat a fly. I think Ishah and I are up. She'll stay put waiting on me. I think that puts me up.
Spoiler for DM
DM Luke |
spoiler for all but Eberk
Yod - Easy enough to do. No harm done.
Cha - If that's really what you want to do, you can oppose his passage through your square. He would either have to overrun you or attempt to tumble past you. Eberk's more of the rumblin, fumblin type than the tumblin type, so I'd say this is running back meets linebacker in the hole if your intention is to tackle or grapple him. He gets a +4 racial bonus to that roll.
If you're just trying to trip him, I'll let you have an AoO on the dwarf as he passes through your square. That should have been resolved during Eberk's move if this were a table game, but given the PbP format, I'll let you have that now if you want it. It shouldn't really even have a negative impact on what you can do during your turn, unless something bad happens to you (for instance, dropping your weapon). If you want to trip him, you need to decide if you're using your weapon or not. It might make a difference when you do opposed strength checks. He also gets a +4 racial bonus to that roll, so beware.
DM Luke |
Since we're still in combat, I'm going to assume your attack on the dead creature is like a coup de grace move, which is a full round action. That will allow you a 5' step in the Dwarf's wake, which brings you to a point where you can just see his armored arse trucking down the hallway and disapperaing into the gloom. Running your scimitar through the downed creature halts the healing process that was slowly knitting its crushed skull back together.
The one Ishah's mutilating is very dead and getting deader by the moment. You've never seen your dog act like this, obviously. She's crazy ape-s$+* mad at the dead thing and has not let it go yet. Make a Handle Animal check to get her to follow.
The bad guys will act when I get home. Then a new map, then Sari's turn.
DM Luke |
Och. No more metagaming questions! I will say that they seem to continue healing while they're down, up to some threshold of damage where they seem to lose that ability. You've 'made sure' on a couple of them, and Ishah did that for you on another. I think the last was so obliterated by the AoO Yod administered that it was put beyond that point. Certainly the morningstar seems to be doing full (and devastating) damage to the brutes. The scimitar hurts them just as effectively. They just seem to have an inate ability to heal damage - up to a point.

spoiler for Yod and Sari
As you watch, the quasit raises the downturned dagger and plunges it into her own palm. Her noxious blood runs in a rivulet down her arm, dripping into the orange glow. Suddenly the light surges in a dazzling flare of white-yellow light. The light then dims precipitously, almost to the point of going out, which causes the little demon to frown. That frown is shortly replaced with wicked delight as another of the freakish monsters rises up out of the glow.
New map on the way. Sari's turn.
