Yod Akarn |

Sari be sure to get that returning dagger after you finish her off, be a good weapon for you when your out of missles. Cha getting my dagger might have to wait, there is something in the room with the funky liquid you might have to get down here to help us. I'm down to I think 5 HP so I'll need some healing soon.

DM Luke |

Beach + Free WiFi = WIN!
Eberk charges up the steps, axe swinging in a mighty arc that buries into one of the monster's many shoulders. One of the vestigial arms goes dead and hangs grotesquely down the monster's back. It howls in pain.
Yod's turn.

Yod Akarn |

I'll take a double move to 20,12 and pull out the morningstar
I was thinking of using total defense while fighting this thing since I'm down on HP, it would give me +4 dodge bonus I can't do AoO's while using it. That about all I saw in the PHB any other issues with it?

DM Luke |

Total defense is a Standard Action, so if you do it you cannot double move. So you can either make it to (24,9) with a single move and Total Defense, or you can make it to your stated target square.

DM Luke |

It swings wildly at Eberk with a hefty looking longsword. Perhaps it's drunk from the gloop it just consumed, but it leaves its grotesque abdomen open to attack.
Yay monsters! Go team! Natural 1, followed by a missed Reflex Save gives both Eberk and Yod Attacks of Opportunity against me. :/
New map on the way.

I've seen how this works...if we kill this one, you'll just make more. :)

DM Luke |

Cha - I've yet to hit you guys with anything that could take you to the wall. Your time is gonna coooommmme...
You're right Yod. No attack of opportunity for you. Eberk!

DM Luke |

The monstrosity continues its turn, oblivious to the danger that just passed. Its ax-blow whistles past Eberk's ear, but the darting dagger lands a blow along the dwarf's scalp. 2 hp of damage.
"KORUVUS KILL!" it bellows. Its breath smells like burning garbage.
Sari's turn.

DM Luke |

Nope. She's just neglecting her civic duty. Hopefully she'll post this morning.

DM Luke |

She was once exquisite, now she's just ex-quasit.
Eberk's turn.

DM Luke |

Eberk's launches a fearsome ax-blow into the monster's torso, causing it to hunch over the lodged weapon. It bellows in agony as the heavy blade tears free, spilling the thing's black, polluted blood down the steps in a torrent. It looks up at the dwarf in complete derangement. Its hate is probably the only thing keeping it standing.
Yod's turn. Keep making fun of my jokes and I'm going to hit you with Koruvus's mother-in-law during one of her hot flashes. You guys will never see third level.

DM Luke |

Hey gang! Luke's Runelords Thread has gone trans-Atlantic. I am posting from the Hotel de France on the Isle of Jersey. Woohoo! I need a nap. Do you guys know the difference between a bed and an airplane? I do. You can SLEEP on a bed, but not on an airplane. :(
Cha pushes his way into the combat and spits the bellowing monster on his scimitar. It falls to the ground in a heap of mishapen flesh.
The four of you (five counting Ishah) stand in stunned silence. Dead monsters lie all over the place in various states of fatal disrepair. No other sounds can be heard in the room but your labored breaths.
I have the following hit point totals for you:
Yod 5
Cha 14
Ishah 4
Eberk 12
Sari 12
I think Cha has 3 spell points remaining, and Sari has none.
End of combat - everyone is free to act.

Cha tuk |

Actually, I think I'm down to two. Trans-Atlantic, Isle of Jersey? Where are you and what are you doing there? I cast CLW on Yod. 1+2=3.
"Sorry Yod, that's all I've got." I give him one of my CLW potions. "Hang on to this in case we run into trouble. Let's investigate this area, search the bodies and then head back to town. I think we're done exploring for the day. Sari and I are both out of spell points and everyone is wounded."
I move to retrieve the dagger and then I'll start exploring the upper platform after that.

DM Luke |

Business trip. It's an island in the English Channel. My sleep cycle is both upside-down and backwards right now. I get back Thursday, and then the thread will probably freeze for a week as we'll be headed for North Carolina (vacation this time).
Cha retrieves the dagger that Yod threw. It's lying next to the orange well. The glow is almost imperceptible now, though the liquid still gives off an unnatural cold that seeps into your bones. The room has two closed doors, one to either side of the double doors you entered by. There are the same spiky runes along the walls that ring the well.
The well at the foot of the platform is perfectly circular, and the water seems to be natural if somewhat slimy. The skulls impaled in a ring look to be human skulls. The quasit's mutilated body lies between the foot of the platform and the well.

Sari |

Oh, my holy slow....this site is KILLING me! Hey, honey, maybe since we can't get together, our avatars could....
Sari looks at the carnage she has created, and is suddenly weary. She searches around her for, well, stuff.
She's looking for loot, errant crossbow bolts, thrown daggers, and whatnot. Oh, yeah, and the all important CLUE. She'll take 20 on the search and add a +1 to that....unless we're in a big hurry for some reason?

DM Luke |

I'm a flippin' Satyr. That means ready-to-roll at a moment's notice.
You have 4 people searching. By my rough math, taking 20 to search every square is going to take a total of about an hour.
The group pores over every detail of the two rooms. The runes are really all over the place. Certain runes appear over and over again, and you can take rubbings of these if you like. In terms of items found, there are the three weapons that Koruvus wielded (silver dagger, handaxe and longsword). Though they are encrusted in the gore-of-ages, the latter two weapons look like some care and craftsmanship went into their fashioning.
The quasit was wearing a tiny silver tiara, and carrying a tiny little knife that you've now seen and felt in action. She also has a little piece of obsidian around her neck shaped into a stylized jackal's face. This motif also appears on the walls, leading you to believe that it might be a holy symbol of Lamashtu. She was also wearing a black silk gown, but it is rent and bloodied.
There's also the two doors in the well room.
I'll let you guys know how many xbow bolts you recover when I get back to my room tonight.

Yod Akarn |

Well I don't think we've been down here very long and we haven't gone very far I've got 3 days dungeon rations in my pack, so we could camp out for a rest period if thats ok with everyone. I do want to try out that returning dagger see how much damage I can do with it and find out its range. Also I want to go get the Ransuer before we leave.
Do you have anything left to cast detect magic on any of this stuff?

DM Luke |

According to my records, Yod fired two bolts and Sari fired three. During your search, you find 4 of them. The last was destroyed when it impacted the stone wall. Also, Cha owes me two fort saves versus poison, DC 14.

Cha tuk |

"Poison's coursing through my veins...argggghhh! Don't think I'll be hanging around this place much longer unless this stops."
4+4=8 and 19+4=23
Manual says I can use a heal check to treat poison as opposed to Saving Throw...says which ever is higher. This only references when I'm trying to help another character not myself. Also, I get a +2 for having a healer's kit. Thus a 4 with a +8(heal skill) and a +2(circumstance bonus) would equal 14. Give me a ruling on how this applies please. Thanks.

Yod Akarn |

I show having 2165 EXP so if we are going up we should see if we are leveling while we are there. I think we should make a drawing of the statue for the old guy in town, I can't remember his name right now and copy the runes around the orange glowing pool. Maybe it will help us find out some more about this palce before we go back down.

DM Luke |

Sorry guys. If I wasn't working my ass off, I was busy not sleeping or possibly getting drunk. We're off to Appalachia for a week of vacation tomorrow morning, so don't expect to see any updates until I get back here. They may have hotspots in Horseshoe Beach, but I know they don't have them where we're going.
And yes, there's definitely some lag-induced crankiness going on right about now.

DM Luke |

I'm baaAAACk in the saddle agaaaaaaiin! I'm baaAAACk!
Cha, the rule is ambiguous. If you were trying to give yourself First Aid, Long-term care or stabilization I'd say no way, but with Treat Disease and Treat Poison I think it's reasonable that you should be able to help yourself. We're probably talking about dosing yourself with the right herb to help you make the save, right? Seems reasonable. You pass the second set of saves without taking further damage.
Eberk, you're correct at 19. I was looking at your first level char sheet.
Sari is able to take rubbings of the glyphs and make a quick sketch of the statue. The group limps its way back up the dark tunnel, emerging in the cellar of the Glassworks building. The guards stationed there gather around as you come up the stairs, eager to hear the tale.
You've been gone several hours. It's early afternoon on the outside. It seems it's been raining on and off since you descended this morning. Distant thunder warns of more of the same.
Should I assume you nabbed all the items left after the last fight?
What next?

DM Luke |

Incidentally, I've posted some admin questions here to kick off the leveling process.

Cha tuk |

Glad to see you back. We'll grab everything.
"Keep up the watch. Any sign of something moving down there and bar the door. Don't engage it. We'll be back in the morning to see if we can get any further. Let's get to the Mayor's office and gather up a council meeting. I think we need to bring Quink to the meeting this time...maybe Father Zantus as well if this poison doesn't stop."

DM Luke |

You make your way through the sodden streets to mayor's offices. Someone runs to gather Zantus and Brodert Quink while others of the staff try to help you wipe away some of the gore from your little underground foray. Zantus enters during this and examines the various wounds. He mutters Desna's blessings to alleviate your suffering. You are all healed back to your full (2nd level) capacity.
The Father examines Cha's swollen scratches where the quasit's nails burrowed into his thigh. "The infection here is passing," he says as he bathes the wounds in water from a flask. "Your body has already defeated the poison, though without my help you may take days to fully recover from the strain of it. After this little talk with the mayor, you must come back to the chapel where I can properly say a prayer of restoration."

DM Luke |

You all are escorted into Mayor Deverin's office. She seems a little out-of-sorts, like maybe she's been up all night. Her attire definitely looks like it might be yesterday's clothes. By her elbow is a half-drunk glass of some thick brown liquid. Hegred stands to the side of her desk and grins at the group as you enter. There are seats for all who want them.
You are shortly joined by Brodert Quink, leaning heavily on his cane and peering at you through thick reading glasses. "Well," the old man intones, "so I see our stalwart pair is back from their demon hunt?"
He nods his head in deference to the women in the room, then goes on. "Did you find your little quasit? Persistent little buggers by my reading. Happy to have never made their acquaintance."
