I've been looking at the backgrounds in the Ptolus guide, and with the skill consolidation in Pathfinder, they'll probably need some tweaking.
some what but not much depends on what you pick again let me know which one you are interested in and I will eyeball it and make a decision
after eyeballing them the only tweak would just be switching the ones that give bonuses to non-pfrpg skill into its equivalent pfrpg skill

Hey Celestial, good to see you here. So we roll for starting gold?
140Hmm, looking through the Ptolus background, will go for Arena Fighter. Though I ask what the 'special contacts' for that would be.
I will come up with it have to look at the local fitting pits, you will prolly wind up knowing someone who runs one or something to that effect. :reading/preparing adventure presently:
Will post it in a little while

Speaking of which, I'm done with my background.
As to your contact, needs some info from you I have read your background which is great by the way however on your sheet I don't see a mention of a deity of any sort and the oracles tend to be a "tool" of a deity, let me know who you will be devoted to perse and then I will be able to come up with a contact for you

Judging by the fluff in the playtest article, oracles tend to worship the gods that are involved with whatever their focus is. Since I don't know which gods in Ptolus are involved with Earth, I just ignored the middlemen and decided to just worship the Elemental Earth. (Formerly worshiped Lothian, but left on reasonably good terms)

Earth oriented gods of Ptolus
Herkan, Goddess of the Stones: A rare chaotic dwarf goddess, Herkan represents the healing energies of the earth. The Iron God: A mysterious deity of the old Prustan humans and grailwarden dwarves. No image of this god is ever seen. He is the patron of all things iron.
Morachon, God of the Forge: A religion centered around a craftsman deity revered mostly by dwarves.

I was expecting that, honestly. Yes, that's good with me.

Do you have a Ptolus God of the Sea or water?
Juranis, God of the Open Sea: God of the sea fearfully worshipped by sailors and sea creatures.
Raddashin’s Eye: Raddashin was a god of rain, slain by evil beings long ago. The god’s eye survived and still carries out his will. Many people in Ptolus revere Raddashin’s Eye.

Starting gold 4d6=14 x10 =140gp
I'm choosing Gang Member as my background, which used to give a +2 to Gather Information checks. How do you want to work this, Lord Thas?
Character is pretty much done except for equipment.
Oh, and do you remember offhand if ratmen have their own language? I was going to take it as a starting language, if that's okay. Otherwise, I'll just go for something more mundane.

Sorry, I've been out most of the day so I haven't been real talkative since this morning(and it looks like the rest of the board has been). I'll have my character up pretty shortly, any idea what starting gold for a cavalier would be? Probably in line with a fighter or a paladin, I guess?

+2 bonus to Diplomacy when trying to use it to gather information. The ratmen language is rattish. As to how you would know it not real sure. Mayhaps the gang leader you ran with knew it and taught it to you because your gang used it as a way to communicate secretly without anyone knowing, since it is such an odd langauge.

Hey, CHP, how uncomfortable would you be with our characters knowing each other? I had a half-joking idea that I think could actually be rather amusing of my character having eyes for one of the other party members, but rather than being flirty and stuff about it he would have pledged himself to her defense. One of my oaths would be to your protection. The joking idea came from the thought that at next level I get a second oath and I was thinking he could swear an oath of chastity, promising to keep her safe even from himself.
Also, DM, I don't know why I kept thinking that the order I was wanting to be part of was the order of the lion, but it was actually the order of the sword, so after all that nonsense about wanting the animal companion to look like a cat, I don't need one after all. I will be going with a pony.
Buying gear now, then my character will be ready and posted.

LOL about the oath of chastity :O
No worries about the order thing, do what you want.

City watch guard could have found me when I first woke up after the incident at sea. We could have kept in touch over the years and we call on each other to help when we have a job.
Thats what I was thinking when I looked at it too. As to everyone else if Tarlane character is a City Watch guard, he has worked in several districts including midtown where he might have done some work for the Lothain chapel at some point in the past. At some point during your time as a acolyte you may also have helped out at the Arena as a healer or a healer's apprentice, Albrek. This could easily tie you to Pol Voron

The only problem with that is I don't have any ranks in Heal and I'm guessing I didn't have any healing magic until the whole "awakening to divine power of the earth" incident, at which point I wasn't exactly a practicing member of the Lothain faith, if you get my drift.

Talking about the arena, would you consider it a place for nobility, where owned gladiators do battle for their amusement, or some place anyone can enter semi-professionally for some money? I can work with either, but I have to know which one. So far I'm reading it as the latter.
Honestly I haven't seen anything in the setting that says one way or another but the stuff about The Arena mentions mainly that there is a lot of legal gambling as well as illegal gambling going on. My take is there is a little of both. Take it in whatever direction you want. I would probably go with the semi-pro who become big stars in the Arena playing to the whims of the crowds.
oh and in case you didn't see it here is your contact info
Your special contact is Sartha Nartis, a businesswoman, she is more than she seems as you have heard from fellow gladiators at The Arena that she will pay good money to "take a fall" during the sporting events held at The Arena. You have spoke with her a few times when she has visited the stables underneath The Arena and she has expressed some interest in seeing you fight in the coming games. The last time she visited; you saw her slip a large pouch of money to a fighter who later lost a fight to a competitor who he should have otherwise have torn to shreds. Not to long after this you found out that a few nobles around Ptolus made some good money off that fight apparently they bet on the winner.

I think this is mostly what my character is going to look like. My eyes are starting to cross after a long day, so I'm going to fix some of the formatting tomorrow morning, as well as whip up his mount then, but I think this is pretty accurate.
I'll double check everything tomorrow to make sure its legit since I am pretty tired at the moment and may have made some mistakes, but if you catch anything, feel free to let me know.
I had picked city guard as my characters background, I initially listed it as being on the docks, but if I am going to have roamed the city and be the glue that brings us all together, I have no problem with that at all.
I'll have more details up in the morning, but its sounding good, everyone. I look forward to getting our characters together and starting to adventure.
Oh, and I totally approve of the idea of a party name. No idea quite yet, but I'll think about it and toss in some ideas. Would love to hear what everyone else might come up with too.

good point about the healing skill.....you might still have helped a fellow Lothain despite you inability to heal. mayhaps this would have been why you failed as a Lothain.

I was thinking more of having an enmity against the ratmen, due to past clashes with them. In retrospect though, its not that important. I'll just take something else.
