Lem Longbarrow
I think you were fine Lem until you hired the damn trumpeters to precede you and the flower girl to adorn your path with petals. :)
Lem can't help that he's a "job creator" who wants to stimulate the local economy. Give a man a fish, teach a man to fish...

So I like the idea of heading South in one group early AM then doing a little overland loop (wandering monsters and all). Also, Cyn, I take it we weren't able to find any map that showed the different areas of the prison correct - Reaper's Hold, etc.?
cynarion
I would normally suggest asking people about the map (which I don't think you have done directly yet), but in the interests of brevity, no, there aren't any maps.
Diplomacy roll: 1d20 ⇒ 18
You do, however, find someone who is able to tell you that Reaper's Hold etc were wings of the dungeon level, and that the cell blocks were on the top floor. The prison has three floors altogether: dungeon, ground level, and first floor (second floor by US reckoning).
Let me know if you have any other pressing questions about the prison itself, you seem to have got lucky and found a random npc who knows a fair bit. : )

One group is best in my estimation; although splitting into 2-3 groups would be more subtle, if there are indeed Whispering Way agents or others waiting for us, it'd be easier for them to ambush those smaller groups and potentially overwhelm them.
A loop to throw off trackers isn't a bad idea. As far as the rest of Ravengro caring where we're going, well, those of them who don't like us will probably think it just as well that we're heading out of town en masse.
Septimus Smythe
Also, I realize I'm not helping Septimus's case for integration in the group by acting like a bit of a jerk to Lem, but Septimus is really a bit of a self-pitying child when all is said and done. But once you crack his shell of sarcasm and defense mechanisms, trust me, you'll find a gooey center of...well, probably best not to dwell on that quite yet.
Rose Springdawn
I dobut Rose would fully trust Septimus yet, but didn't want him left behind as a player (having been on that end before, it's annoying). Now just don't miss with a bomb and have it scatter into us. That could be 'suspicious'.
Septimus Smythe
I feel like I'm just going to do my best to earn my keep during the exploration, and maybe try to pull some folks aside whom I haven't engaged in conversation yet. I think I have an interesting "in" with Walter and Lem at this point, and once I connect the dots in-character on Raj and Kendra, that will be another fun scene to play out. I suspect making in-roads with Dragomir, Theron, and Rose will be hardest, but there are always opportunities. Not everyone has to be best friends.
For what it's worth, I hope to move Septimus notch by notch toward NG over time as he comes into his own and stops being such a self-loathing brat.

No, we had no secret discussions via PM to 'accidentally' have an alchemist killed off after making a bunch of potions for us.
Of course not. The secret discussions via PM were quite clear that the death would be by no means accidental.

I have already determined that Theron doesn't think Septimus is an agent of the way. Unfortunately, this is entirely because Septimus left a different kind of bad impression on Theron because of his rambling during his hangover ;)
Septimus Smythe
Septimus just doesn't know when to keep his mouth shut. I don't think things are going to get better as he detoxes, either. Conveniently this should start right as we are heading to Harrowstone.
By the way, don't worry about the group not trusting Septimus. I think it's an interesting RP opportunity and I made my own bed by choosing a Neutral PC with a slimy (pun intended) background.

Hah, I had a feeling you knew what you were getting into when you designed your character ;)

While we're on the subject, I don't think y'all have vetted Lem carefully enough. How can you be sure that under that parade armor isn't the twisted black heart of a Zon-Kuthon worshiper? Keep in mind that Lem's player has a history of height-challenged PCs who distribute food and wealth not out of kindness but dreams of world domination...

Sinious McHagus, the 5 Cha chaotic "neutral" halfling thief, who distributes food and gold solely to build his own reputation. Hey, at least I gave a plausible reason why that scumbag would attract followers :-)

Bah! Your assuming because we haven't done inner monologues about Lem that we trust him. Let me put that worry to bed for ya. Raj trusts himself and that's about it. :p
Alright, Theron is OK because we play for the same team...
And Kendra, come'on, most every guy goes goofy over a hottie once...
And Walt may be shaky but he's a good kid...
And Rose is a little too forthcoming to be fake besides the Way ain't recruiting from half-way around the world...
And Karrik - well - he's got the sensitivity of ball-peen hammer but it's an honest kinda insensitive...
And Dragomir is too growly and bear-like to be a good spy...
And Lem clearly wouldn't spend so much time looking after folks if he was all bad...
Hell, I guess it IS only you. :D
Actually, Raj works for the Way and he's gonna 'scout' the whole team through a maze-like death-fest of undead tricks and traps.

We've actually already met the Whispering Way's most dangerous agent in Ravengro numerous times: the Redwing following Walter around (15th level druid).

LOL! I actually did something like that once in a game. The good guys were hunting an assassin that was hiding in a merchant caravan while meticulously picking off select caravan targets. Turns out he was a Ninja/Druid transformed into a draft horse.
Rose Springdawn
A friend of mine had our group spied upon for years while in our home city. One of our opponents was a Wererat (we didn't know it) Druid, and had awakened a bunch of the city rats to spy on us. The characters NEVER found out, but he eventually told us players.

Dragomir Tries to Read a Book: a Comedy in 3 Acts
Yep - glad you caught it.
He's not dumb... he's just poorly educated. I'd say maybe grade 4 or grade 5 primary education (as in the reading and mathematic power of a 10-11 year old in modern educational terms).
Back in the early 1900's a lot of kids pretty much got schooling until 12-14 when it was time to work.
Dragomir did it the other way around. He worked until 12-14 then got his letters and numbers taught/beaten into him in the long boring periods that characterise mercenary work. Sadly he missed out on finger painting, gluing macarroni to cardboard and pretty much anything resembling literature.
He's functionally literate and numerate... given a running start.
He's on the start of a long journey - I am a long term RP-er. I hope this game goes the distance and so am planning character growth 4-5 levels ahead of when it actually will kick in.
Plus I want to build the RP to power attack just like Raj is building to cantrip use. I did some foreshadowing on that earlier when we first visited the Pharasim church.

Drago wrote:Dragomir looked at the axe... then back to down and then the axe again. He shrugged and took up the axe.Man, this could have gone any number of ways... anyone seen the Shining?
LOL. I was thinking 'Amityville Horror' myself. As I recall, there is a scene where the obsessive father goes outside and takes the 'inherited axe' to a woodpile in an increasingly manic way.

Caught and enjoyed.
I'm trying to balance the short-term RP of Septimus needing a reason to travel with the group with some longer term RP such as his (hopefully) improving relationship/amends with Kendra and the Professor, archetype ability development (what do you suppose that centipede in a jar is going to be used for?), etc.
I'm actually hoping there's a good opportunity for Septimus to need to use one of his extracts on another party member in Harrowstone, only to realize he can't, paving the way for a reflection on his own selfishness and a good reason to take the Infusion discovery. I'm sure Cyn will provide us with enough scares for this to be a pretty realistic situation.

Or any macaroni picture literature. :)
A mind is a terrible thing to waste.Plus I want to build the RP to power attack just like Raj is building to cantrip use. I did some foreshadowing on that earlier when we first visited the Pharasim church.
Good on ya! I'm all in favor of building characters organically and showing how they get from A to B.

Hey everyone. Really sorry about the continued delay. As the Green Goblin said in Spider-Man, "work was murder".
I might be able to make a post today...but I'm not liking my chances. Sorry for what I assure you is a temporary hiatus. I will check in again in around 16 hours or so.

It's alright. Septimus is having a grand old time eating cheese and luring unsuspecting rats to their demise.
Now if only he could find a peach. He could eat a peach for hours...
