You know, maybe I should do a last minute switch out of my 'Valor' inquisition, since it seems like I'll always be in the back XD
OK, so a couple things that occurred to me. The bloody V is Splatter Man's MO. Splatter Man was a wizard of some ilk which means he might have had a familiar, and Walter and Vesmera spotted a red bird (that should have been asleep) near the blood-stained statue. So... perhaps the bird was a familiar, either for the Splatter Man or his copycat.
Also, Walter and Vesmera spotted a red bird on their date beneath the bridge. It might mean absolutely nothing. But given Vesmera talking about being 'different/odd', I'm kinda wondering if maybe she is a caster.
I've put together a doc comparing what we know of the 5 prisoners, if anyone wants a copy, just PM me.
My guess is Rose was trying to say we could use this as an additional part of distracting Kendra from going into Harrowstone ;)

Hey all,
So yesterday and today are my serious work crunch days as I mentioned before joining. Wasn't able to get a post in edgewise at all and doubt I'll be able to get on in today, but it's possible. I'm just trying to play catch up at this point. It's not good timing, but unfortunately have very little control over it. I was in meetings from 6:30 am until 9:00 pm yesterday, with a "social" dinner that was essentially another meeting until midnight.
Anyhow.
As far as dissuading Kendra to come to Harrowstone, she already has a pretty strong dislike for Septimus, so it probably wouldn't hurt things if he had to be the messenger. The mere fact that he's coming along is probably enough to deter her!
Other things we need Septimus's expertise/advice on prior to Harrowstone? Although I don't have time to post, he's definitely going to need an info dump on what you've done so far. You don't have to do it in character, of course - but if we assume you guys sit him down and tell him about the last few days I'll write a post with some reaction/questions in-character.
Also - depending on time (and donation of party gold) I can begin to churn out any potions I have in my formula book that we think might help (cure light wounds, disguise self, enlarge person, etc.
Making alchemical items takes a bit longer, but I can work on those as time permits as well. It's definitely something Septimus would do (oh, his eyes are going to bulge at the Prof's alchemy setup). Cyn, we may want to have a sidebar about alchemical crafting, as I know there was some groundrule discussion on this earlier on and I'm not entirely sure where it ended up. From my experience, alchemical crafting takes a pretty absurd amount of time, even with the little perks and feats alchemists have to help them out.
Oh - and one last thing. Septimus will make knowledge checks (arcana, dungeoneering, and nature as appropriate, being his trained ones) to try to learn anything he can about the general dangers of the wild and/or dungeons in this part of Ustalav in an attempt to get a "lay of the land" so to speak.
"If Miss Lorrimor can best grease the wheels of this cart by workin' through that book, or researching, or other tasks in town like keepin' an eye peeled for more bloody letters croppin' up..." He avoids meeting Kendra's eyes. "... then I think maybe she should stay here."
Karrik scowls at Rajuna, "If you wanted to discuss who was or wasn't going, it might be prudent to actually say it." The scowl shifts between Rajuna and Kendra, "And was there a suggestion that Kendra actually enter Harrowstone? Because that is simply not one of the options available."
Rajuna shakes his head, both irked and amused. Having worked with half-orcs before, he's seen their typical directness. He holds up a slender lockpick for Karrik's consideration. "At times, this is a better tool than a crowbar, Karrik. Subtlety is a tool too. As for the 'options available', I expect the lady has her own mind about what is and ain't on the table for debate." He tosses a deferential nod in Kendra's direction.
Karrik regards the lock pick, "I don't disagree that there's an appropriate time for subtlety. From what I can tell, it's generally a tool used when you don't desire others to realize what you're trying to accomplish. In this case, I think it imperative that everyone be in agreement as to where Miss Kendra will be during the.. uh…" He pauses, once again eyes being drawn to the new human. "… maybe we should handle something else first." Karrik takes the two intervening steps towards Septimus, sticking one gray, meaty hand out for a shake, "My name's Karrik." His tone and direct look clearly ask, And your business here is?
Oh, you have no idea how tempted I am to write a now boys, there's no need to fight over li'l ol' me post here. ; )

Yep, you know the game is awesome when just reading the RP posts at Kendra's house DISCUSSING going to Harrowstone is very entertaining. Obviously, we are all looking forward to the actual delve into the prison itself. But I'm really enjoying just reading everyone's interactions at the house, honestly.
I'm so glad we're out of research and everyone is back. Karrik talking smack to Rajuna and Dragomir going full Jayne Cobb has been the most entertaining thing I've read since... the last entertaining thing you guys wrote in this PBP.
I am kind of sad that I didn't get a chance to post Walter's reaction to Rose putting herself down-- but, unfortunately, it'd be mostly internal since Kendra said what he was thinking (to read the walter rendition add approx this: 2x"Um," 3x"..." and 4x"Er", and 1x"Well, uh...") and Walter's not forward enough to give her a talk about believing in the me that believes in you.

Truth be told your characterisation of Kendra got me fired up so much I put myself in Dragomir's shoes and said '**** it, she needs to hear this'.
The Raj bit? Believe it or not that was a deliberate dirty tactic - I figured the bar room brawler in Dragomir wasn't above hitting below the belt.

Much as it pained Karrik, he realized he couldn't -- at the moment -- mount a better argument for his position than Dragomir just had. He contented himself with giving Kendra his level lest gaze, a frank shrug, and a nod to echo Walter's sincere addition.

Just want to confirm that I've been keeping up with the great developments in the gameplay thread but that it's killer to try to write a decent post from a phone. I think there has been a bit of bleed-over between what has been read (but wouldn't be known by the characters) in the Game thread, what is character knowledge in the Game thread, and what has been said in the OOC. Cyn did mention that we didn't have to do the entire discussion IC so maybe this kind of bleed is a natural result.
Having said that, I wouldn't mind getting one thing cleared up - what do the characters know about the Kendra/Raj situation?
Dragomir kind of alluded to it in the Game thread with his character choice on the "how would you feel if he died?" question, and then mentioned it here in the OOC as well. Aside from the occasional look passed between Kendra/Raj and possibly Kendra's glare during her 'Prince Charming' speech, I don't think there have been any indicators to the other characters that anything has happened... and I don't recall any Sense Motive checks against Kendra or Raj to confirm any reasonable suspicions. So, my assumption has been that no one knows and Raj, being the private person he is and concerned for Kendra's reputation, would try to keep it that way for as long as possible. He always refers to her as Miss Lorrimor for a reason.
However, Cyn wants to play this - whether as a secret or an open secret that everyone in the house knows about - that's fine. I'd just like to know. I don't think it requires any retconning because Dragomir could have picked Raj 'at random' or because he is known to be Kendra's knife-fighting instructor... i.e. there is some sort of relationship that he could use for his 'low blow'.

I was conflicted about whether or not Lem was a "monster" but then I flipped through his sheet and saw that he was completely willing to have a dude with a crossbow ace a thug that he knew by name and Lem even had had close relations with his guy's family. Lem is a cold-hearted killer underneath his purple butterfly armor. Don't be confused.

On the romance thing, I haven't seen any kiss or such but lets face it, Raj is a bit flustered around her and Dragomir has misinterepted (albeit correctly) your closeness to Kendra during the research session, and the jokes made when you came back from the 'Scroll' shop.
I haven't made any sense motive rolls to be sure but Dragomir is a trained observer of people and has played a series of hunches.
I don't doubt however, that there may be some bleed through too. In a RP session all the stuff happens very quickly and the memories as to what you know and don't know is easier to keep together... on a pbp the memories of events gets blurred over days and weeks.

Sorry, looks like you're out of luck. The church at Ravengro isn't terribly militarised, so they're unlikely to have an aspergillum of the sort you want. They will have an ordinary ceremonial one, which you will be allowed to borrow--but it has the fragile quality (becomes broken on an attack roll of a natural 1).
The cost of the aspergillum (for your own record-keeping purposes, in case you break it!) is 5gp; it's not as sturdy as a battle aspergillum, but it does have some intricate work on it.
That's perfect--I actually wanted just a regular aspergillum anyway, not a battle one, so it's all good.
As for Harrowstone, I can wait until Wednesday my time if you prefer, but if you're wondering if everyone is ready to start sooner, I'm ready to go, FWIW. Either way is good for me.
