A bit late to the party, but I will be submitting Solace. A female, half-orc Paladin of Erastil.

Are you allowing alternate racial traits?

Solace wrote:

Yes as long as they're from Paizo.

Have you perused the thread? Take a look at page 2 where I made a sample in-game post and requested that all applicants make their own sample response in-character. I look forward to seeing yours, as everyone else has made a great response.

It was perused. Just had to break for early dinner and assist in a scenario where a hedgehog is piloting a helicopter and assaulting a castle.

Scenario:

The birds were particularly loud this evening, singing from the dense treetop canopy that covered the forest on either side of you. The eastward route along the Thruway that cut a line through the woods was growing more decrepit with each passing mile; the old road hadn't received more than a semblance of upkeep in more than a century, but the fact that it was still usable was a testament to the grand society that once was.

The summer heat weighed down upon the traveler's shoulders like some heavy cloak, and when the sudden not-so-distant thunderclap rang out across the evening sky, it brought with it hope for a respite from the oppressive seasonal warmth. The pitter patter of rainfall perked up the lone traveler's ears, quickly becoming the only audible sound as the drops fell relentlessly upon the leaves all around. The rain drops were cool - thank the gods - and while it delivered on its promise of relief, a menacing thought accompanied the feeling of relief; these woods would make a fine hiding spot for highwaymen, and highwaymen were a growing scourge in these lawless times.

Keeping a close eye for trouble on the tree line, the traveler rounded a bend in the thruway that rose up around a rocky hill, the sounds of rushing river waters growing louder with each step. The heckles suddenly raised on his or her back when road leveled out atop the hill where a cloaked and lightly-armored woman stood sentinel, blocking access to a sturdy wooden bridge. Her curvaceous figure stood there confidently, brandishing a quarterstaff in one hand, momentarily silhouetted by a shock of lightning behind her. The woman stared at the traveler, seemingly ready for this encounter.

There was no apparent way around; the river's water churned angrily below, dispelling any notions of swimming across. Before the traveler had a chance to speak, the bridge's guardian called out through the rainy evening air -

"Welcome! This is my bridge, and if you want to cross it you'll need to pay the toll. Five gold coins, or a hearty spar - the choice is yours."

She motioned to the bridge's edge where a 2nd quarterstaff lay against it, waiting for you to take up her challenge.

side note:
Note: I believe you intended 'hackles' when you wrote 'heckles'

Response to Scenario:

perception: 1d20 ⇒ 5

"Hello my good woman. Though I do wonder how you acquired ownership of this bridge, I find myself more than willing to give you a good spar for the privilege of crossing it."

Unwilling to come to a quick judgement about the woman's motives, Solace will pick up the quarterstaff and move forward to engage the woman.

melee attack: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (20) + 4 = 24

confirm crit: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (16) + 4 = 20

damage: 2d6 + 4 ⇒ (5, 4) + 4 = 13

If the woman is knocked down, Solace will offer her a hand back up, saying: "I hope that spar was enough for you."

If the woman is knocked out, Solace will bend down to render aid and ensure she did not harm the woman too badly.

If she is still up, she will attack again.

I an working on my submission still but have been busy with work. I hope to have it finished in time! :D

Very interesting attempt to curry favor. It is an obvious misspelling in the sentence's context and hardly worthy of taking the time to point out. I'm taken aback that you thought that was a good idea.

Please refrain from posting further in this thread. You will not be selected.

I wanted to get my dot in and on the record before recruitment officially closed. Sarrissa is a tiefling cleric (no archetype) using Adabar as her deity, but could really go towards many lawful or good based deities. She's mostly complete, just trying to finalize equipment and a feat. I will post a sample in-game post in the morning.

Any feedback is welcome and thanks for being a GM.

Hello and welcome. At a glance everything looks solid. Other than requiring your sample reply (which you're aware of) I don't see any issues.

Sample:

Despite the heat, or perhaps because of it, Sarrissa found herself walking with other purpose than progress. She was in no rush, yet she didn't lollygag either. Her pace was one of balance, not too fast, not too slow.

She had been walking for hours. The scale mail armor and the sweltering heat made for an uncomfortable march, but she was no creature of comfort. Still, she longed to find an inn or tavern and hopefully a bed. She hoped not to have to sleep outside again tonight. Nature was not her area of expertise.

The crack of thunder in the distance returned her focus to the current moment. As the rain drops began to plink off of her armor, she paused for a moment and stared up at the clouds, drinking in the refreshing chill that the rain brought with it. After a minute or so, she shook her head, letting her hair shake off some of the wetness like a wet dog just come in to the house. She signed and to herself.

"Time to push on girl. We won't make it to the Orchard just standing around." She nodded to herself and pushed on, one foot after the next.

She heard the sound of the river roaring before she even saw the bridge. Surprisingly though, someone stood atop the bridge, almost as if defending the pass like a castle guard standing atop the ramparts. Sarrissa stopped at the edge of the bridge before actually stepping foot on it and looked around.

Perception: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (15) + 9 = 24

"If this is your bridge, then what's he doing here" she asked, nodding her head towards the man hiding in the brush. As she spoke, she readied her pole arm for whatever happened next.

You see so many GMs just casually modifying one persons house rule, copying another persons house rule. It's great to see GMs are collaborating even in such a distant way

I'm not sure what you mean. I'm assuming you're referring to my house rules since this is my recruitment, but my house rules are my own and not part of any collaboration. Also the "distant way" descriptor is confusing me.

I'm going to give Tundran a little bit more time (this morning and afternoon) to get in a character but I will be closing recruitment sometime later today. I'll have a list of my selections at that time.

I think he means that this recruitment thread has similar house rules.

1 person marked this as a favorite.

:)

Ancient Dragon Master's post makes sense now. Aku is a friend of mine from a previous game. He enjoyed my house rules (the version he has posted are a previous iteration of my house rules) and so they have become his house rules as well. I am honored that others enjoy/agree with any modifications I have made to this game we all enjoy.

Liberty's Edge

I knew that I has seen them before...lol I have also applied to Aku's game and know him from other games. I though I was loosing my mind, but it all makes sense now!!

I better withdraw- I just haven't had time to finish it up, I'm sorry. Thanks for waiting for me. :D

Good luck to you all! I hope to get in on a future recruitment, GM Zedth.

Friends,
As usual this is never the fun part as I do not enjoy turning enthusiastic people away, especially people who are clearly talented writers. Thank you all for your character submissions. I made my decisions based on a number of factors, and here are my picks:

  • Pinto Donasetti (Fabian Benavente) - Human Brawler
  • Eina (Adam Warnock) - Human Shaman
  • Brandt Holgarson (DBH) - Human Skald
  • Taecuss dyn Bru (Markofbane) - Elf Investigator
  • Erodin Stark (Tazo) - Tiefling Fighter
  • Dunganagar the Mad (Peet) - Dwarf Barbarian

    ---------

Players - please head on over to the Discussion thread and dot.

  • oh well, have fun all. I had a feeling I was not gonna get in...

EDIT: @Adam... guess we are never gonna get in a game together again... oh well that's the way things are I guess.

    Liberty's Edge

Congrats everyone...please keep me in mind if you need to replace any of the chosen group.

    I will indeed.
