Male Human Engineer/4 (ding!)

Everyone who reads this thread should totally go vote for one of the top 6 monsters in Mikko's Monster design contest!

A Sword for Hire Website, which is Mikko's blog about game design. (Mikko as in our stalker Mikko)

Scroll down to see the top 6 monsters as each one has its own blog post with comments from the judges.

Voting blog post with link to the voting booth.

Because Steve is too nice to say, you should vote for the Slag Heap by Steve Hanis, our very own Papasteve08. Vote for his monster!

I want to point out your prayers are answered. Behold ypur "paizo.com is experiencing heavier-than-usual traffic" banner on paizo.com

Congrats Steve! I had no idea it was your monster until we had selected our Top 6. I really like the flavor and special abilities. Good luck in the voting!

Only 2 days late, but it is nice to see the banner.

Male Level 1 Human Commoner

Heck yeah, Steve! Congrats, dude! That monster is awesome. Time for you to usurp Mikko as the king of monster creation :)

Male Human Engineer/4 (ding!)

Thanks everyone!

@Chris - Fat chance of that happening anytime soon :D

Did you see those reviews! I've got lots to work on. The good thing is (I think) that the general theme was it was all things that can be fixed pretty easily, especially with more experience writing up the stat blocks.

Lots of really awesome stuff in those review to learn from for sure, I know I will be referring back to that the next time I create another little beastie.

Mostly it was just fun writing it. I think (who am I kidding?) know that's why I like this PbP thing so much.

Good work, Steve! And good luck in the voting.

Forgot to say that I voted.

Not telling who ... ;)

Steve, love the Hellforge Slag! I'm no expert like the panel that critiqued them, but an idea I had that might work with them is if they came in size varieties like elementals with increasing CR and if they had a special ability to combine into a single larger version or to separate into smaller versions. I know that would be a lot more work with multiple stat blocks from Small to Huge or whatever, but as living slag I could easily see it being possible.

They recently published a creature like that, Aaron: The Flytrap Leshy. I really like the idea on top of the Hellforge Slag for it to coalesce into a larger creature, perhaps that is a way to do it?

Thanks for the comments and kind words on my beastie!

I love the idea of them being able to combine. The contest is already 'over' for submission and change purposes, and I've already been lucky enough to come out in the top 6 - all that is left to do is convince people to vote and wring my hands/chew My nails and hope I win the popular vote :)

Voting closes sometime tomorrow!!

Get your votes in if you haven't already!

It's 7am and Paizo is already slow as. I'm done. Just totally over this.

I'm caught up for on all the games I'm playing in. Not coming back to this steaming pile of shit today. I'll see about tomorrow, but I'm probably going to take the weekend off from posting. It's just not worth the frustration.

Time to write more Benaiah and Arimar backstory! Wooo!!!

Male Human Engineer/4 (ding!)

So I didn't win the Here be Monsters 2 contest. [sad face emoji]

But its all good, because my little beastie is still getting published by Rogue Genius Games!!

I think that is the thing I am most excited about - I had completely forgotten that was one of the perks and prizes for the top 6.

Not sure on the timing, but mostly I just wanted to say thanks to my crew here for all of your support!

Nice! Congrats, Steve!

Nice work mate!

My parents are arriving in Houston (coming from Australia) tonight (1 day earlier than I expected). Not sure if and when I'll get to posting tomorrow. Apologies for the late notice!

Awesome! I'm glad that you got published, that is pretty cool!

Steve That is fantastic! Send us the link when it is published, I for sure will buy it! Hoping its free though :)

Damien Enjoy every second of their visit!

Male Human Retail Manager 9 / Musician 8

Congrats on getting the Hellforge Slag published, Steve! I know from playing covers for money that whenever I write a good song, it feels nice to give back to the art that I draw so much enjoyment from. Now you have done that for the RPG community!

With the recent announcements in another thread in mind... If any of you are missing some pbp in your lives, there would be a need for replacement in Skulls & Shackles -campaign.

It's not quite one-post-per-day, so it doesn't have quite the momentum of our other games. But it's been progressing slow and steady since summer 2014.

Check it out, and let me know if you're interested...

Male Human Engineer/4 (ding!)

Have fun on your vacation Damien!!!

I would be more jealous, but I'm going to Florida in a few weeks, so I am only a tiny bit jealous...

Thanks mate. Would you be more jealous if you knew I was going to Florida in June to stay at a friend's beach-side chalet anyway? No idea why I'm trying to make you feel jealous...

... thanks for wishing me well! All the best for you, too!

Assume you all know about the big news about the game we don't play anymore.

Not sure if that changes anything, but it would be fun for the Drongos to try it out.

called it!

Indeed, indeed, indeed. I know Damien has quite clearly expressed he is out of PFS. But what about Steve and Chris? Just resting a bit or dropped out of Drongo's? I'm up for continuing after a small break (April/May onwards).

Dark Archive

Human (Minnesotan) Rules Lawyer 4, GM 5!

If we do, I know there are a couple of players that would enjoy stepping in for the missing Drongos... If we had Steve, Jyri, Chris, myself, and one other, we could still take on EotT, if we so desired, and then move on for the new arc. (I would be up for that, I will have the seven replays required for all seven scenarios).

But, if we wait much longer than that, I may want to play Gunari again. Hard to hold such a fun character back (though Lucius needs to get more play before Paizo Con)

Silbeg wrote:

Seriously, I am right here.

In all honesty the PFS break is a much needed one. Whether or not we pick up again or not will be a decision much further down the road for me personally.

John, Sorry... thought you were out. I'd for sure love it if you were to play again. Seriously. Wouldn't be the same without you.

Male Human Engineer/4 (ding!)

I'm with John - While I am dealing with a little bit of withdrawal lately, I have been swamped IRL and would be totally overwhelmed had we not taken this break. I am glad for it, and I will be glad when we are able to kick start playing again.

You won't have to try to hard to convince me to jump back in the pool. Aaron and Jon caught on at the worst time, they are both sucked in and loving the PbP thing, only to have the rest of us pull back.

For all of my frustrations with PFS lately, a new seeker arc is exactly the kind of thing to get me all sorts of excited again. I love that it is a 12-15 tiered adventure series... (Level 15 Pathfinder??!?!?!?! YES PLEASE!) and the fact that you could use the same character to go through Eyes of the Ten and the new arc... well thats just cool.

In time... I think we all just need a little time... and then the fire will be lit anew.

New seeker arc? Aw hell. You try to get out and they pull you....

... nah, still out. I may do some module leveling for Lort post GenCon so I can join in on the finale with you boys if you'll have me. Otherwise, though, no PFS for the foreseeable!

Very cool news, though. Very cool indeed.

Okay, some of you played with me, some haven't, but I am having pbp withdrawals and I NEED to make a post. So here goes! Thanks for the indulgence!

Instead of another nerve-twisting ride on a sailing ship, Glarifyur decides to spend some down time between missions in the bustling merchant stalls of Katapesh. It is not long indeed before he checks the first task off his list; while wandering and perusing the market stalls he is drawn to the rhythmic pulse of steel on steel. Following the sound down a side street, Glarifyur breathes deeply in, filtering out the animal dung, exotic spices, and the scent of wildflowers sparsely growing along the sides of the street and focuses on the bouquet of hot metal and steam; of burning coal and vapored sweat. The coal-blackened, weather-beaten iron sign swings above the stall with a gentle metallic creaking sound, it's etched and chiseled words forming an oval around a meticulously engraved horseshoe.

Rulmin's Dwarven Metalworks...this place would be perfect! Hopefully Master Rulmin will appreciate a fellow dwarven apprentice.

The pulsing is replaced by a rush of hot steam, refreshing the aroma of the forge in his nostrils and filling his ears with a seductive, snake-like hiss. A stocky, well-muscled and aging dwarf buries large iron tongs into a wooden vat filled with water and glances up towards Glarifyur.

"F'yer lookin fer armor repair, there's an armorsmith two roads past this'n. 'Is work is quality, fer a human."

Rulmin wipes his bronzed forehead on his sleeve and a stream of tobacco juice escapes the only gap in his tied-back, graying beard.

"No, Master Rulmin, I do not seek armor repair, I seek knowledge. I am Glarifyur, son of Durifyur of the Egdoras Clan, though my work as a Pathfinder has found me far from home here in Katapesh. My devotion to Torag has drawn me here; I have a strong desire to learn to create. I seek no payment, only your guidance. What say you?"

As the steam dies, Rulmin flips a seemingly perfect horseshoe out of the water and into a deep, nearly empty wooden box.

"No. If ye have a horse that needs shoeing there is a farrier just out o' town that I supply. Or if it is a specialty request, I can meet yer needs. Otherwise, I've work to focus on, my boy. No 'ard feelins. Well met, Glarifyur, son of Durifyur."

As Rulmin turns to gather more iron for his furnace, the clip-clapping of a horse approaches the stall, it's rider a well-apportioned amalgamation of flowing, colorful robes, steel armor, and a curved sword that slaps the right flank of the steed gently as they come to a stop.

"Master Rulmin, your orders are not filled; our dervishes are in need of a hundred more shoes just to start. Your work is without equal, but it has been slow of late. Training drills begin in ten days'; the farrier needs five to finish his work. If our drills are delayed, we will find another supplier for future orders. Good day."

Rulmin sighs and looks toward Glarifyur. "The pay is nutthin. Ye'll sleep at the back of the forge in a cot and ye'll break bread with me twice a day." There is a slightly awkward pause followed by another gout of tobacco spit. "Well, whatcha waitin' fer? Get that pretty armor off and let's get to it!"

I spent my two skill points on an additional rank in diplomacy and a first rank in Craft(blacksmith)

The days turn to weeks as Glarifyur's knowledge grows faster than his beard. Though nowhere near Rulmin's quality, the horseshoes made by Glarifyur are of a good quality and his spirits are high. Perhaps it is his renewed devotion to Torag. Maybe the desert sun beating down on his now thickly bronzed skin. Or the constant barrage of embers finding their way painfully between his clothing and body. Whatever the reason, Glarifyur notices his skin has become hardened, almost armor-like itself <Gained Heartstone class ability> and the cracks and callouses on his hands seem to heal by themselves as he massages them at the end of his days. <Gained Lay on Hands class ability>

Though his training is far from over, duty eventually calls as one day a messenger brings a rolled parchment, a blob of red wax bearing the Silver Crusade's sigil sealing the scroll.

That was awesome!

Well, your NCAA brackets maybe utter rubbish by now, but there is still a surefire bet out there, I cannot, for the love of all that is holy, get recruited into a game.

To date, I have only once ever applied to a game (that had a vetting process) and been accepted.

So thank you Damien for taking a flyer on me and your first foray into PbP GMing.

Hey John, sucks that you can't get recruited. You're quite a humble guy.... maybe more self-promotion required? Link to your past glories? Also, there are worse things than being unable to get recruited (eg. getting recruited into a shit game).

In any case, you are more than welcome for your recruitment. You've given me more than enough in return. Your posts continue to amaze and amuse.

I've been playing in a Crypt of the Everflame PbP game since June 2015.

Man this PbP sucks, and I'm going to quit it.

Nearly a year?! Wow. That doesn't sound enjoyable.

---

@Drongos: Sorry for falling off the face of the planet after concluding the Blakros scenario. The issues with that scenario coupled with issues in other games have left my recent PbP attitude to be less than desirable, however the drastic reduction in my games (mostly from GMs and players dropping off the face of the planet midgame, which is where the problems started from) has at least made logging on and updating not feel like a chore.

If there are any problems that still exist on your Chronicles, I will update them for you.

---

On another note, I hope you guys are doing well and I do quite miss having the quality of players that comes from this group in my games (either as GM or as a player).

Liberty's Edge

@Deussu: sometimes it's just better to give up, than to struggle on with something you don't enjoy. I don't know how quitting works on PFS, though. The half-finished scenario never happened?

@GMBS: Yeah, there's been a lot of losing appetite for pbp lately, even among the Drongos. But speaking of which, I feel I've somewhat overcome my personal pbp burnout. So the idea of riding with the Drongos starts to tempt again. How about the others?

Sorry to hear about that deussu! Yes, sometimes it's better to just walk away.

@GM BS - I concur with Jyri, the burly bug has been almost an epidemic lately. One way or another, I am determined to finish the story of the drongos. It might not be through pfs, but it will happen.

I am getting ready to board the flight home from Florida. Is between an awesome vacation full of zoo animals, Disney, cirque du soliel, and a $600 superfecta at the nearby dog track. Minus the Disney, we might just make visiting family in Florida a yearly thing.

In a tavern outside of the Grand Lodge, a terrible scene unfolds. A once proud man is being dragged out of a bar, his monkey being carried out with him. "I not so drunk I can't take you all!" the Varisian man mumbles, though it comes out more like "Mrenodunk...take youwallllll" and he swings at the bouncer.

"Damn the Society... what are they thinking these days, letting their Pathfinders stew on the bench for so long." says the large Ulfen man. His partner, a Garundi man nearly as large, replies, "Especially ones this. They should know that if he doesn't get sent on missions, he's only gonna drink his profits away. And that damned monkey! Tries to drink everything he can get his little hands on!"

Early the next morning, a messenger comes back from the Caydenite's apartment to Drandle Dreng's office. "Sorry, sir, I couldn't rouse him. Don't you have someone else you can send on this mission? Couldn't find that half-orc you wanted, either. Doesn't look like he's been in his room for days!"

I'll get Lort leveled up to 12-13 area so we can play the new seeker arc together when it comes out. I won't be doing so over PbP, though.

Damien!!!!

Hope you are ok down there in all the rain. I'm trying not to be worried, but sometimes I can get anxious. Be safe my man.

Heh. Thanks for the concern. It was absolutely pouring down last night for a good 10 hours. I slept not a wink with all the rain pelting against my windows and the thunderclaps every 30 seconds or so. Insanity. Most of Houston is completely shut down... and the lake out the back has risen about 10-12 feet. The walking paths within 10 yards of the lake have completely disappeared and more than one oak tree has been submerged without trace.

Anyway, after some patchy Internet and electricity issues, the storm has subsided leaving me stranded on an island and thankful we went to the supermarket yesterday!

Nothing will help 0 hours sleep, though, so please forgive my posts today if they are a little haphazard and random.

I almost wish I had memorized it. Woulda been a sweet party trick.
