Fade hollers, "You think that little spell of yours is going to take us down? Fat chance!" Despite that he feels woozy and extremely sick. GM_Starson |

Okay, try and keep that stuff up to date in the future. Also, do you take any penalties for attacking an opponent who you haven't challenged? Also, I'm afraid you can't step there because that would require you to teleport through a wall. You can take a 5 foot step in the other direction, though that will place you between green and the captain. Stepping downwards puts you only being attacked by 2 pirates instead of 3, so I'll put you there.
One of the pirates steps up and slashes at Matsu with a wild attack.

Yup, 12 damage from the spell, but it was a will save so Evasion doesn't help. Also, weirdly, despite it saying in the description "Entangle foes with your whip" the improved whip mastery doesn't actually allow that. Instead, I'll fudge that a little and say you did a dirty trick maneuver, which while provoking a AOO he can't reach you so, no damage, and give him the entangled condition.

She starts to lead her team back towards the door away from the rest, not running for it, but clearly leaving the unasked question in the air. She gives a look to Fade and Ryskovich with their bow and magic, knowing they have no chance in running if they tried.

Ryskovich looks on as Deremin’s head by bobbles along the wooden floor. He tries to stop the fleeing pirates out the back door, but lowers his bow.
He watches as Bell and her crew try to nonchalantly leave as he pipes up.

"You helped out at risk of your own life and frankly, I really don't care either way if you run." Fade replies to Bell's unspoken question. "But my friends here, they obviously think otherwise." he says pointing to Ryskovich's leveled bow.
"How about you serving out your sentence with the Society like they mentioned earlier? It pays as well as or better than your pirating ways for sure. You have a worldwide organization at your backside, willing to dispatch a team of killers like us to take care of the likes of you should you run into trouble. Think about it. We have more still to do here, but you handled yourselves well in helping us out."
Turning to look at Evarial, Fade asks the group, "Will someone please wake up the elf? They just sort of fell over and started droolin' after that spell."
Fade will offer up a CLW potion if no one succeeds at a UMD roll to get the wand to work. Oh and his Temp HP will regen to his ward at the rate of 1 per minute so it should be back to full in no time.

GM_Starson |

Bell shakes her head.
Look... I get what your offering. And it sounds like a fine deal. It really does. But like I said, I got family here. If you let me and the crew go, I swear we'll go straight, but I can't just go joining up with some organization and running around the world. So...
She drops her weapon and turns her back on the pathfinders. Her voice is firm as she continues.
So I'm going home. I think I got you pathfinders pegged, and I don't think you'll shoot an unarmed woman in the back. So you can knock me out and take me back and hand me over to the guards, I won't fight you, or you can kill me right here and save them the time... but I don't think you will. Thanks for sparing me... hope you guys have some luck. You deserve it.
She then slowly starts to walk away.
Luka and Jorgen stare at bell in shock, then look back to the pathfinders, as if waiting to see how they'll handle this.

She sits down and pulls her knees up to her chin. She seems to be shaking a little. Luka and Jorgen kneel down beside her and untangle her feet, but they make no move to run or walk away, having resigned themselves to their fate.

GM_Starson |

Fade's Perception makes this pretty easy.
Leaving their "captives" to wait for them (Assuming someone to guard them), the team soon finds a room that presumably belonged to the captain. Wall hangings, paintings, and rugs futilely endeavor to cover up this room’s mildewed surfaces, making it resemble a plague victim slathered with makeup for a funeral. A large bed in good condition sits in the room’s northwest corner, and a writing desk, chair, and small bookcase of damp wood round out the furnishings. The room is heavy with the smell of incense, which masks the omnipresent dank odor. On a desk is a journal.
Flipping through the journal reveals a most recent entry.
"Met with Helkit in the City Today, Charming as ever. Gave her her cut of most of the recent Pathfinder Raids. Don't know why she needs it; she's even richer than most bloodied. Fenced supplies are pocket money to her. I've heard there's a razmiri Bounty on pathfinder boats, and I'm sure that's where she's really earning profit here. Need proof- might blackmail if things go sour. Till then, just have to trust my Pirate Queen will continue to bless her favored son as he plies his trade on the river."

![]() |

The Eclipse stands guard over the 'prisoners' while some or all of the others search the captain's quarters/office.
When the journal and its contents are revealed, he lofts a brow... "Helkit? Who's that?" I can't believe I never put points into know local for him... sigh... gotta remedy that next level

GM_Starson |

Bell and the other to raise an eyebrow at that name.
Teacher? Teacher is involved in this?
They look at each other, but as usual, Bell takes the lead.
Helkit is the teacher of the gladiatorial school we all graduated from... that's how we knew each other. We had just graduated, and she just got finished saying how we wouldn't make good gladiators and should stick to bodyguards or something else... when Deremin showed up and offered us the job. Do you think... she arranged it? To get us to join I mean?
Bell shakes her head.
Helkit is super strong, one of the strongest bloodied in the country! She's rich to. And dangerous. We wouldn't cross her, period.

![]() |

As they look over the journal, Fade pipes up, "Looks like the favored son was a bit off the mark on that last line."
know local: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (18) + 2 = 20
"Helkit is a bloodied warrior who runs a gladiatorial school. She's a bit of a rough customer and has some serious respect in these parts, not to mention she is rich. All that together makes her dangerous. Just the kind of person we should go talk to!"

GM_Starson |

Fade also spots super easily a latch to a back room, revealing crates of goods all stamped with the pathfinder symbol of the open road.
It might be a good idea to go back to Smine, turn over the captives to the guards, and let him know where all these supplies are first.

![]() |

I agree, let's report and deliver our captives before we consider more... perhaps Smine might have some input on that.
"Before we consider talking to this Helkit, which may or may not be a good idea at all, we should head back, report what we've found, and deliver those in our custody."

![]() |

Fade rolls his eyes and nods to the ceiling, as if acknowledging and thanking the gods. He brings his hands to his face in mock surprise and lets go with an exaggerated outcry, "Gods! I almost forgot about our captives! We can't just leave them here. Best be getting back to Smine, turn this lot over to the guards, and let Smine know where the supplies are."
Then the group works on healing up before going any further. Fade walks over to Evariel, "Hey elf? You awake yet? I could use a shot or two off that wand of yours if you are..."

GM_Starson |

The gods remind Fade not to be a smartass, less they decide a errant lightning bolt is in order.
Evariel is awake, though just barely, feeling like he was run down by a freight train. At 0, but could hit themselves with the infernal wand.

![]() |

The first potion brought me to 0, which is consciousness. I can get the rest.
Evariel awakens while the others are dealing with Bell and her allies. Groggy and in considerable pain, he sits up slowly, oblivious to the conversation around him. Must get to... my wand before... anything else happens.
He reaches slowly into his backpack, pulls out his own healing wand, and touches it to himself while muttering the command word. While the cure potion had mended some of his wounds with a calming glow, the effect of the wand is much different. His skin stretches itself grotesquely over the many sores that had opened, and the inflamed areas rot and fall away to reveal intact skin underneath. Two uses of the wand and Evariel is good as new. He stands and discovers that Bell has surrendered herself. "Well I'm surprised you didn't just leave," he tells her, oblivious to the preceding conversation. "But have it your way, I suppose."
Knowledge (local): 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (18) + 8 = 26
He nods at the mention of Helkit. "I'm familiar with her. Quite rich, quite formidable. A multiple threat, if you will."

![]() |

Fade nudges Evariel once again, as a gentle reminder of his earlier question...
Then the group works on healing up before going any further. Fade walks over to Evariel, "Hey elf? You awake yet? I could use a shot or two off that wand of yours if you are..."
"Looks like you might be the healer with that stick of yours. Poor Bait was having a heck of a time getting it to work. I only have one potion left, and I would like to save it for an emergency like waking up a sleepy elf when we can't get a wand to work." Fade says. Afterwards he stands there... blinking occasionally.
Did we check the bad guys for anything of value? Might as well do that too while we are healing up.

Matsu hands over his wand to help with the healing.
One can see he is quite angry, yes more than furios his enemy ran away.
Nevertheless he shakes his head. "Piracy is very very bad, we will have to bring the others to the officals. All of you. But if some of you will somehow manage to escape in the night, I do not have time to follow them!"
