Moving around the last maggot so as to get it between her and Alfred, thepaladin makes short work off it.
"They did it! They won! They killed the snakes!" Stevarn cheers from the background. "Twasn't snakes, young man, don't they teach you anything in schools?" retorts Gwerm, "that happened to be maggots, and considering their size, I don't want to see any fly they might have developed into." His tone gets purposely hurting. "Though I can see how this would confuse you, given whose hand you're holding."
"Gwerm, stop it!" Anevia interrupts angrily. "We have no time for insults." "Ah, thanks, but let him be, I'll probably deserve this" comments Aravashnial apologetically turning to Gwerm, though the grip around Stevarns hand becomes so firm that the young boy winces.

She complimented before turning back to the arguing group behind them. "She is right, we do not have time for petty arguments right now. Instead we need to focus on the task of getting out of this pit and to do that everyone can be of some assistance to the overall goal and don't allow your personal biases to get in the way of the most important thing in here...surviving."

As Anevia and Arianna said, we must work together to ensure that we all survive to return to the surface. Insults and anger will only serve to cause us failure. "Lady Iolaire, am I correct in surmising that you can also see in the darkness? If so, it may be best if we were to take the lead--I speak from experience when I say that down here, others can see light from a considerably farther distance than it lets a human see." "Let's move on. None of us want to be down here any longer than we have to!" Spear in hand she sets out towards the far end of the cavern, eyes searching the darkness.

May I suggest the Rule of Two? If two people agree on a path of action (like going left or right) then that's what the party does. It keeps things moving faster than if we have to wait for everyone.

She agreed moving to the front of the pack and gazed down the passageway with the light from the stone trying to focus it my closing her hand around the lit stone. "I'll go ahead and take the lead if no one has any objections, hopefully I should be able to make sure that there are no more nasty surprises waiting for us."

There are the cold remains of a campside fire to be seen, as well as an old, mossy bedroll someone left behind. And just past the campfire, there's a pile of bones, broken equipment and other rubble, so it seems as if this cavern was inhabited for quite some time.

Cockroach 2 attack bite: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (18) + 1 = 19 damage: 1d4 ⇒ 1

yeah, you're right, and sorry that I didn't post anymore but I had a hell of a day at work and nearly no time at all. So Cockroach 1 is the one adjacent to Alfred, 2 the one behind it and 3 the one next to 2. I also see that I made a mistake because the second attack in my last post would be from Cockroach 4 against Iolaire. Result stays the same, I guess, the stupid beast misses anyways. ^^ Apart from that, I'm waiting for Alfred to adapt his move, but that shouldn't stop you from making your moves as well.

I take it you made a five-foot step to threaten three of the cockroaches but still attacked the one still standing (where the black dot is? ) Still would mean that you get an AoO, because the other ones, will stand up. I'll make the necessary rolls this time, if it's ok, just to ensure that we don't waste too much time on this.
Kendrens spell shows immediate success, when two of the cockroaches slip on the suddenly greasy ground and fall prone. Alfred takes this opportunity, and wWhile swinging (and missing) at the first cockroach, makes a quick sidestep to get the two fallen insects into his reach. He calculates rightly that those will immediately try to stand up again, giving him the opportunity to attack another time.

cockroach 2 bite attack: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (16) + 1 = 17 damage: 1d4 ⇒ 4
Alfred feels a burning pain as the beasts mandibles claw into his leg. At the same moment, the crossbow bolt shot by Rianne flies harmlessly over the attacking cockroach and crashes into the rubble behind it.

            Round 1 summary
Kendren cries out as one of the cockroaches scratches him with a claw. Backing away to allow those who were better suited to melee combat a crack at the creatures, Kendren speaks arcane words and causes a puddle of grease to appear beneath three of the cockroaches, in the hopes he can knock them on their backs to aid his party members. The Arcanist's spell spell shows immediate success, when two of the cockroaches slip on the suddenly greasy ground and fall prone. Rianne reacts fast, and moving to get a better angle 5-foot step, she loads her crossbow, and fires at one of the cockroaches knocked off what passes for it's feet by Kendren's spell. She's a bit to hasty though, and her shot glances harmlessly off the beast's flank and crashes into the rubble next to it.
"Damn Vermin. Do I look like an exterminator". Alfred looks thoughtful for a moment, then he steps forward and brings his flail to work. Unluckily the insect's carapace seems just strong enough to avoid major hurt. Alfred hears the chitine armor cracking but the cockroach seems unimpressed and continues its attack. Then, taking the opportunity offered by Kendren's magic, he makes a quick sidestep to get the two fallen cockroaches into his reach, thereby also evading his opponent's counter attack. He calculates rightly that the prone insects will immediately try to stand up again, giving him the opportunity to attack another time. He hits target, bashing in the head of the beast that falls twitching to the ground again, it's convulsions stopping after the blink of an eye. The third cockroach uses the time to come to it's feet again and immediately attacks Alfred, as he is the one standing next to him. The fighter's armor proves to strong though, and withstands the beast's mandibles.
Iolaire jumps when the cockroaches appear but recovers swiftly, stepping back into the cave to strike the nearest roach. Unfortunately her surprise shows in her aim and her strike is wild.
Uldir steps up, hands already blurring through the motions of an Acid Splash. Extending a palm towards one of the fallen creatures, the sizzling glob zooms towards its target. The writhing bug, scrabbling to regain its feat, managed to thrash its way out of the acid's arc, and the spells sizzles into the grease to no effect. "Slag and ruin, Uldir! Aiming like a drunken orc today!"
At the same time Arianna draws her rapier and moves swiftly in close and nimbly jumps behind one of the cockroaches, way to fast for the beast to react.
Round 2 Initiative:

Group 2: The Cockroaches
Group 3: Arianna, Iolaire, Rianne and Uldir

Not having prepared any offensive magic, and not being a good enough shot with a crossbow to avoid the risk of hitting his compatriots, Kendren sets himself to the side and prepares to strike any bugs that approach him.
Smack 'em with the quarterstaff!
Quarterstaff, attack: 1d20 ⇒ 11
Also, I just noticed Alfred entered the grease puddle. Don't move quickly, Alfred.

Alfred frowns in concentration, peering at the one that almost bit through his armor.
"Your next"!
He then proceeds to attack the first roach he attacked... but finds the newly greased ground vexing, and his blow falls short.

The cockroach Alfred attacked tries to bite him again, acompanied by the second one, that has found sure footing in the meantime. The third one still attacks Iolaire.
attack Cockroach 1: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (15) + 1 = 16damage: 1d4 ⇒ 1
attack Cockroach 2: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (20) + 1 = 21damage: 1d4 ⇒ 4
attack Cockroach 3: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (12) + 1 = 13damage: 1d4 ⇒ 2
Alfred, having to defend against two of the beasts, only can avoid the first one completely, but is bitten by the second one. Iolaire, only confronted with one of the beasts, easily evades its attack.

Critical hit confirmation: 1d20 + 3 + 2 ⇒ (16) + 3 + 2 = 211d6 + 2 ⇒ (5) + 2 = 7
If the cockroach is dead I would also like to go ahead and take a five foot step behind the cockroach with the orange and red dots

The cockroach that just bit Alfred squeaks and shivers when it gets hit from Rianne's bolt from one side and at the same time from Uldir's spell from the other side. Obviously it is hurt, but it still won't stop from it's assault on the fighter.
Arianna's rapier breaks the insect's protection and buries deep within it's body. In the same fluid motion, the half-elf draws her weapon back and moves behind the second cockroach, while her victim falls dead to the side.

Iolaire sidesteps to get out of the insects range and wield her spear more effectively. This time her attack is much more precise, and strikes the insect's carapace with force.
Attack: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (18) + 4 = 22 Damage: 1d8 + 4 ⇒ (4) + 4 = 8
At the one attacking me if its still alive. If not then move to attack another one = I'm a bit hazy now on who attacked what.

Kendren moves to smack the remaining roach with his staff.
Moving next to Arianna.
Attack: 1d20 ⇒ 16
Damage: 1d6 ⇒ 1

            "Ouch! You Bastage"!
1d20 + 7 ⇒ (1) + 7 = 8 Flail (+2 for flanking?)
Wow!
But somehow he got some of the grease on his hands from the floor, and only ended up sending his trusty (Till now) Flail across the chamber.
1d8 + 4 ⇒ (2) + 4 = 6 Damage
That hit on Alfred might be a critical if the thing can confirm.

Iolaire steps up once more, circling to flank the insect and striking out.
Attack: 1d20 + 4 + 2 ⇒ (9) + 4 + 2 = 15 Damage: 1d8 + 4 ⇒ (6) + 4 = 10
Do ignore me if I'm too far out of turn :)

Thanks for the honesty, Alfred, but my fault, so I won't punish you with trying to confirm that critical threat
Kendren lands another hit on the remaining cockroach, while Alfred loses his flail while trying to finally kill the beast.
Attack CR: 1d2 + 1 ⇒ (2) + 1 = 3 damage: 1d4 ⇒ 4
But the flail flying aimlessly to the ground seems to irritate Alfred's opponent enough so that its own attack misses as well. And enough that it doesn't see Iolaire's spear coming, taking life out of it.
End Combat

Rianne attempts to salvage her missed crossbow bolt recovery chance, high is good: 1d100 ⇒ 23 but finds it unsalvagable.
"Stupid roaches. The grease was a good idea Kendren."
She goes back to searching around the room (take 10 on perception for a total of 14).

Uldir mutters, quietly chastising himself for his poor aim, and moves to the far of the room (skirting the cockroaches' nest) to check further down the tunnel. Perception: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (10) + 2 = 12
"Let's take a quick gander about the room, then be on our way. The sooner we've returned to the surface, the better, I think."
