Backstory:
Kendren was born in Roslar’s Coffer, but his parents both perished in a plague when he was but a year old. He was taken in by the priest at the Bastion of Light, and raised in the temple. The priest sought to teach him compassion for others, how to help those who were injured in the town, and that no one was truly beyond redemption. Once he was old enough, Kendren would assist the priest in treating some of the townsfolk’s more minor hurts.

When the Twisted Nail attacked Roslar’s Coffer, he was sent away with a couple of other acolytes as the priest stayed to help protect Roslar’s Coffer. Kendren, distraught that he was unable to do anything to protect either the town or the priest who had raised him, journeyed with them to the temple of Sarenrae in Vellumis. Once they arrived, he sought out a paladin of Sarenrae, Hasan al-Fasir, and asked to be trained to use Sarenrae’s light to protect others and prevent such tragedies from occurring ever again.

Hasan had once been a questing, crusading knight, but as he’d gotten up there in years, he had retired from such active ventures and dedicated himself to the construction and repair of Sarenite temples. Agreeing to take on Kendren as his squire and apprentice, he taught Kendren both the more martial aspects of paladin-hood, as well as building and stonemasonry techniques. Kendren traveled throughout the Inner Sea region with Hasan to temples of Sarenrae in various lands, helping with repairs and construction, even as he was taught to embrace the inner light of Sarenrae to bolster and defend his allies.

After eleven years studying under Hasan, Kendren was officially ordained as a paladin of Sarenrae. Able to choose his own path, he decided to return to Lastwall, where he felt he was most needed to protect others. Before leaving, Hasan gave Kendren the scimitar he had used in his adventures, Radiant Dawn. Upon arrival in Vellumis after a six-month journey, he learned that they were in the process of rebuilding Roslar’s Coffer, and that the Bastion of Light had been reclaimed from a monster that had taken up residence in it. Deciding that he could put all of his skills to use there, he convinced the priest at the temple of Sarenrae to allow him to journey to Roslar’s Coffer to assist in rebuilding and protecting the town, and to assess what would be needed for rebuilding the Bastion of Light.

After journeying to Roslar’s Coffer, he presented himself to [mayor/authority here], and offered his services to help protect the town, as well as assist in construction projects. He has spent the past six months doing so, while spending free time in the ruins of the Bastion of Light. Although he feels sorrow over its current state, he also feels a certain amount of pride in knowing that he will rebuild it to the once-great structure it was.

While outside patrolling the area round Roslar’s Coffer one night, he felt a sudden, searing pain wash over him - pain like he had never felt before. Mercifully, the pain lasted only a brief time before he blacked out. When he came to, he was…disoriented. Everything was out of focus, and blurry. He could scarcely think or remember his own name. He found a backpack…his backpack? It had food in it, so he could eat something. Eating was something he needed to do. Where was he? What was he supposed to be doing? Why did he hurt so much?

For several days, he existed in a mental fog and in pain, trying to find out where he was to go. One day, he ran into some people, who said they could help him, make him feel better. There was something…wrong with their porters, though. What was it? It was when the arrow struck one of them that he realized they were zombies. Undead! Abominations! A scimitar was suddenly in his hand, and he was blazing with light as he struck at the undead creatures. He yelled for their handlers to surrender, but they cast spells he was able to shrug off. Forced to fight, he wept, for some reason, that they had not surrendered. Why did he feel such sorrow at having to inflict violence?

The battle suddenly ended, and he fell to the ground, weeping, until the unknown archer approached and offered to take him to safety. He said his name was…Jando. Jando Parr. Had he known Jando once? He slept.

Upon waking, the pain he had felt was gone, and the fog in his mind had lifted. He remembered who he was, and why he had come here. Jando told him what he knew had happened to Roslar’s Coffer, and Kendren wept yet again. Once again, disaster had come to Roslar’s Coffer, and once again, Kendren had been able to do nothing to protect it. He decided he could only trust Sarenrae to lay his path before him, for she would not abandon him. He knew she wouldn’t.

Jando left him be, for a time, until he heard voices outside. Jando was talking to someone. He had mentioned other survivors. Perhaps Kendren would join with them, and they could do something to help. Sarenrae had seen to it that he survived the destruction of Roslar’s Coffer not once, but twice. She must have needed him on this path. He would follow it to its end, and her will.
