Tarnish Gaborza |
Were the skeletons we fought goblin size or human size?
Tarnish scratches his head. He says, "The whole thing makes no sense to me. Why raid the town as a diversion to get something that could have been taken by stealth just about any night they wanted to? The only thing I could suggest other than trying to follow the tracks to see where they go, is that the Sheriff should keep his weapons handy until this gets sorted out."
Strife Ayrhart |
"It's a metaphor, if you throw one stone and kill two birds with it, it is considered very efficient. In this case, the human leader of the goblins stole the corpse and probably had another motive for not stealthing in: maybe he wanted to disrupt the festival, maybe he wanted to kill some people in town, maybe he wanted the goblins to suffer heavy losses..." Strife suddenly stops, realizing that he is rambling. "Uh...I'm sure you get the point." He steps back, trying to divert attention away from himself.
Kugrim |
Kugrim smiles at Strife. "I understood the general concept but not the specific application. I should have been more specific and said, 'To which two birds do you refer?'Thank you for your list of possibilities, however. Sheriff, were those more or less the lines along which you were thinking?"
Wivvy |
"I was thinking that the goblins would be more than happy to divert everyone by burning the town to the ground. In one swing, you win whatever form of respect a goblin can have, and you get a nifty little diversion while you steal a body for who knows why." The sheriff sighs as if he's already tired, "Now if you'll excuse me, I've got to go back to my desk to try and make head and tail of this mess-oh, and this should cover food for the week." The sheriff bodes them all farewell and tosses them 5gp apiece before leaving.
Oh and about that religion check, you can think f several demonic rituals involving body parts, none of them pretty.
Tarnish Gaborza |
Tarnish says, "Thank you Sheriff."
When the Sheriff departs Tarnish talks to the rest of the group. "Looks like we're at least unofficially on retainer. Tavius, do you want to try tracking where the goblins and their leader went to?"
Tavius Taurandir |
"I can try." Tavius says inspecting the tracks.
Survival: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (17) + 7 = 24
And succeed Like A Boss
Tavius Taurandir |
"Well they came and went this way, excuse me for a moment." Tavius says as he drops his flail and spear, and trys to jump over the wall.
Acrobatics: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (15) + 3 = 18
See last ooc
Wivvy |
I knew I would miss it eventually :P
Eventually, the others make it around to the other side of the wall where Tavius is with them. The tracks are faded from being a day old and they are hard to follow.
I'm going to assume that Tavius takes 10 on a survival check for 17. If that's not what you do then just say so.
Tavius can still see the tracks heading Northwest in a straight line.
Tavius Taurandir |
Tarnish Gaborza |
Ok, rear guard it is. Then Strife in front of me, Kugrim in front of Strife and Tavius on point. Unless somebody objects, but there just aren't too many other options.
Tavius Taurandir |
Wivvy |
Hehehe, always come prepared!
Also, how far are you guys going out? Following tracks would put you guys at about 1.5 mph. Tavius would know that the tracks are bee lining for the Tickwood Forest and that would take about an hour to walk to.
Tavius Taurandir |
I'll follow the tracks as far as I can
"Gentlemen, and Gentlehob, we are going to my favorite place in the world the Tickwood Forest, watch for boars they're not friendliest creatures in there." Tavius says as they follow the tracks.
Wivvy |
After about 30 minutes of traveling, you are walking through the Hinterlands, there is nothing of note on any side. Then, suddenly, you here the flapping of leathery wings coming to your right. When you turn around you see the giant form of a Dire Bat flying towards you.
So the bat goes after you guys an the Battle Map is updated. Have fun :) Also, you have 5 mnutes left on Mage Armor Kugrim.
Tarnish Gaborza |
I hadn't said, but Tarnish would have had his sling staff loaded and ready to go.
Tarnish says, "I hope this isn't one of Setius's friends."
Tarnish attacks the bat using his sling staff.
Attack roll: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (16) + 3 = 19
That probably hit.
Damage: 1d8 + 4 ⇒ (1) + 4 = 5
Strife Ayrhart |
Round 1
"Holy... wow!," Strife exclaims as Kugrim grows in size. Strife steps to the northeast, making room for The hobgoblin's growing form, "coincidentally" putting Kugrim between himself and the giant bat.
"Well, you definitely have this, right?," he asks as he casts Guidance on Kugrim.
------------------
Move: 5' step northeast.
Std: Cast Guidance. Target: Kugrim.
Currently have Guidance buffs: Kugrim.
Guidance: This spell imbues the subject with a touch of divine guidance. The target gets a +1 competence bonus on a single attack roll, saving throw, or skill check. The target must choose to use the bonus before making the roll to which it applies.
Tavius Taurandir |
Tavius Draws his bow and fires at the large bat before them.
Attack: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (1) + 3 = 4
Damage: 1d8 ⇒ 5
well then
Wivvy |
The bat shrieks in anger as Setius' claws rake his face. He screams in anger and snaps at Setius, but Setius is to quick and dodges the bite. Tavius' arrow was a wild miss and narrowly missed Setius as well.
Tarnish Gaborza |
On the battle map you have Strife bravely interposing his body between Kugrim and the bat. That should probably be the other way around. :-)
Tarnish drops his sling staff and draws his sword as he moves to engage the bat. (Moving two squares south and then one square southeast.) Tarnish strikes at the bat when he gets into position.
Attack roll: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (9) + 5 = 14
Damage: 1d8 + 4 ⇒ (2) + 4 = 6
Tavius Taurandir |
Tavius fires agains hoping to strike true.
Attack: 1d20 + 3 - 4 ⇒ (10) + 3 - 4 = 9
damage: 1d8 ⇒ 8
lvl 2 cannot come sooner
Wivvy |
I fixed the map, Strife is no longer the valiant oracle we always knew he was meant to be :P
Frustrated and Setius scratching at him, the bat ingores him and heads straight for Kugrim.
The bat lunges at Kugrim, mouth open wide, it just about snaps its jaws on its prey when it realizes that there is a horsechopper in it mouth, going straight down into its stomach.
150 xp a piece.
Tarnish Gaborza |
Tarnish cleans off his longsword and sheaths it. He retrieves his sling staff and loads a bullet in it. He says:
"Now, I'm a city person, born and raised there. I don't know much about the forest. But I think that unless the boars here learned how to grow wings and fly that this critter isn't one of them. So, in addition to the boars, overgrown bats, goblins and a corpse stealing nut job is there anything else we should be wary of?"
