Female Human 5th level Cleric

Sure

Female Human 5th level Cleric

So, for the sake of future expenses, I want to keep a running tally of everyone's gear and expenditure of gold for the group to ensure we have the right equipment or nobody is paying too much out of pocket. This should help in the future for a party fund. We should probably set a system like 10% of all loot goes to the fund and the remainder gets split among the party, or something like it.

That way, we won't have one person always reaching into their pocket for expenses because some of us are gold hungry. (Like Yeldrid's ammo)

If everyone would care to post their gear and gold to me over PM's or here, I'll set up a doc to keep track of everything.

Female Kobold

I'm giving you guys a short window to respond and roleplay, to pace things out. Then we're going into the forest proper.

One problem I'm seeing with the "bonus slot" idea: Split parties leads to a split timeline, and the delays are probably a bit annoying to the bonus slot's player. Rest assured, Trekkie, the next post will move Zyxebrax's story along.

I would say as long as you're willing to message the bonus slot player when the group actually gets around to their area it should be fine. From my perspective at least, it's only 'a little bit annoying' not knowing when I actually have to start paying attention to the thread, or if I will in the case of a party that has trouble deciding what it wants to do--and it really isn't that bad.

Female Kobold

Gotcha. I'll message you when the time comes.

Paladin 1 | HP 11/12 | AC 17, Touch 11, FF 16 | CMB +3 | CMD 14 | Fort +4, Ref +2, Will +2 | Init +1 | Senses: Darkvision, Scent | Perception +2

Are Baylily and Lanoula still here? Also, I still need help getting out I think.

Female Kobold

Yeah, I'm not sure. They haven't been posting much.

We'll assume someone helps you out. Everyone ready to move on?

Female Kobold

Urgh. Sorry, guys. Today really got away from me. We'll move on tomorrow, when I get home from a town hall.

Female Kobold

I should probably acknowledge right now that Fridays are always going to get away from me, as they're the days where I get up early for the bus, run one game, then get home and play in another, then stay up late talking to my sister (who gets home on the weekends). If any day of the week is going to be dead for my posting, it's Friday.

NG Female Half-elf Druid (Leshy Warden) AC 16, touch 12, flat-footed 14 | Perception +11, Sense Motive +9,

Sorry for being a bit absent. Between being busy at work and general stress-related issues I haven't been as active.

Baylily isn't really coming to life for me as I hoped she would.

Female Kobold

It's okay! Let me know if there's anything you can think of to make her more interesting to play. If it becomes necessary, you can work on a replacement.

I'll get a post up later tonight.

Male Kitsune Swashbuckler (Inspired Blade) 1/ Paladin (Virtuous Bravo, Chosen One) 1 | HP 7/18| AC: 17 T: 14 Fl: 13 | CMB: +2 CMD: 16 | F +3 R +5 W +2 | Init +3 Perception +0| Panache 4/5

Not going to tell us what's in that spoiler, Yeldrid? :D

Female Human 5th level Cleric

I think he might be busy with the bear that might attack, so he'll get to it when it starts being a problem, which it is not at the moment. XP

Paladin 1 | HP 11/12 | AC 17, Touch 11, FF 16 | CMB +3 | CMD 14 | Fort +4, Ref +2, Will +2 | Init +1 | Senses: Darkvision, Scent | Perception +2

It is the problem. They have a bear cub.

Female Human 5th level Cleric

Oh s**@, you're totally right! I didn't even put 2 and 2 together. I thought it was like...you know what, I don't know what I thought it was.

I'll amend Yeldrid's last action. That's suss and I would think Yeldrid would comment on that bag to everyone.

Female Kobold

In fairness, FTW is from Australia. Bears are, like, #38 on their list of dangerous fauna.

Female Kobold

Just so you guys know, a lot of the early playing is sort of testing for me—I've never run a play-by-post this fluid before, so I don't know what works and matches the tone I want to set. Feel free to voice criticisms and suggestions. :)

Female Human 5th level Cleric

Seems fine so far. Though we're not far into it but I'm getting a good feel for the adventure already.

Also, sorry for the delayed response everyone. House inspections happened today and yesterday I had to do some cleaning and I forgot to update here.

So are you done with Baylily or the game?

Female Kobold

We might want to be taking stock of this game. KingOfAnything isn't feeling the character, and YoLlama isn't posting very often at all. As a general rule of thumb, when I have to go to a previous page just to find a post from a given player, there's a problem—especially since we're not exactly powering through the pages here. As I said on the Recruitment thread, I want everyone to be fairly proactive in their roleplaying.

I'm still up for running this game, obviously. I know I was posting a little sluggish out the gate, but I'm trying to get at least one or two posts up per day now (with the exceptions of Fridays, which I'll probably only rarely post on at all). If you are still interested in playing, post within the next two days saying so. If there are changes you think would make your character or this adventure more engaging, let me know. If, on the other hand, you feel like it's time to bid your farewells, that's totally fine.

In summation, I'd rather have a small core of enthusiastic players than a large group of mixed enthusiastic and bored players. If one player isn't having fun, it has a negative effect on the whole game. I want everyone to be having a decent time here.

Male Kitsune Swashbuckler (Inspired Blade) 1/ Paladin (Virtuous Bravo, Chosen One) 1 | HP 7/18| AC: 17 T: 14 Fl: 13 | CMB: +2 CMD: 16 | F +3 R +5 W +2 | Init +3 Perception +0| Panache 4/5

I'm still definitely interested! I don't think I've got anything I want to change about Isamu at present.

Female Human 5th level Cleric

I'm still down.

Paladin 1 | HP 11/12 | AC 17, Touch 11, FF 16 | CMB +3 | CMD 14 | Fort +4, Ref +2, Will +2 | Init +1 | Senses: Darkvision, Scent | Perception +2

Still here.

Female Kobold

Alright, so that's three of us. I think it would be best if we brought Lily Shadow into the main group.

What we need to consider: Do you guys want to try to pick up some new players, or should we go ahead with 3-4? Should we NPC Lanuola and Baylily, or should we try to move their characters out ASAP to avoid hassle?

Sure, I'll need to remake my sheet though; mythweavers had a bit of a glitch earlier in the month. Want me to remake her as just a level 1?

Male Kitsune Swashbuckler (Inspired Blade) 1/ Paladin (Virtuous Bravo, Chosen One) 1 | HP 7/18| AC: 17 T: 14 Fl: 13 | CMB: +2 CMD: 16 | F +3 R +5 W +2 | Init +3 Perception +0| Panache 4/5

I'd like to stick with a smaller group. Larger groups almost always have this issue, from my experience.

Paladin 1 | HP 11/12 | AC 17, Touch 11, FF 16 | CMB +3 | CMD 14 | Fort +4, Ref +2, Will +2 | Init +1 | Senses: Darkvision, Scent | Perception +2

Gunslinger, Swashbuckler, Paladin, Vigilante. We better murder everything before it hurts us or we are going to get bogged down from damage. 4 is a good number though.

Female Human 5th level Cleric

We are pretty stealthy overall, though. I think using that to our advantage will be rather helpful.

But yeah, clearly a smaller group of people is for the best...

Male Kitsune Swashbuckler (Inspired Blade) 1/ Paladin (Virtuous Bravo, Chosen One) 1 | HP 7/18| AC: 17 T: 14 Fl: 13 | CMB: +2 CMD: 16 | F +3 R +5 W +2 | Init +3 Perception +0| Panache 4/5

Remember that Isamu is going Paladin, too, starting next level. Though he's going to stick with the light-armor dexterity-based combat style of the Swashbuckler, just with holy power to back it up.

Female Kobold

Yeah, go ahead and move to level 1, Trekkie.

Female Kobold

I'm going to be looking to resume the game tomorrow, but we'll need decent exits for Baylily and Lanuola. I'm thinking wild bear attack. I'm pretty sure I have an idea other than "wild bear attack" that'll leave the door open for a potential future reentry. :P

Look for the post in about fourteen hours. I'm going to bed. Today was a rotten day—lost my iPod. #firstworldproblems #butIlikedmyipodthough

Female Kobold

Sorry, it's been a crowded day and I need to get a submission done tomorrow morning. I'll look to update things tomorrow.

Female Human 5th level Cleric

Hey, Almonihah. You might want to have a look at this this archetype for Isamu. You can scale your Swash stuff with your paladin levels, if you're okay with losing spellcasting.

Male Kitsune Swashbuckler (Inspired Blade) 1/ Paladin (Virtuous Bravo, Chosen One) 1 | HP 7/18| AC: 17 T: 14 Fl: 13 | CMB: +2 CMD: 16 | F +3 R +5 W +2 | Init +3 Perception +0| Panache 4/5

Oh, neat! Thanks for pointing that out to me. I'll have to debate over it and decide if I'm willing to lose all of those features to play up the swashbuckler side of things.

Paladin 1 | HP 11/12 | AC 17, Touch 11, FF 16 | CMB +3 | CMD 14 | Fort +4, Ref +2, Will +2 | Init +1 | Senses: Darkvision, Scent | Perception +2

To all my games. Going to be on vacation from tomorrow to Sunday. I will have my phone but I hate posting using a touch screen. Phone is new a little sensitive so some words don't come out right.

Female Kobold

What do you guys think of this house rule: If only one or two players are aware of something (such as spoilered information, or dialogue in another language), give them about 8 hours to post. After that, everyone else can just assume they translate it, to keep things rolling.

Female Human 5th level Cleric

Seems good, particularly since we might have some people absent for a bit. It should help keep the narrative flowing.

Male Kitsune Swashbuckler (Inspired Blade) 1/ Paladin (Virtuous Bravo, Chosen One) 1 | HP 7/18| AC: 17 T: 14 Fl: 13 | CMB: +2 CMD: 16 | F +3 R +5 W +2 | Init +3 Perception +0| Panache 4/5

Seems reasonable to me.

Female Kobold

It occurs to me I'm not really keeping my promise of a 50/50 split of combat and roleplaying. Sorry about that! I'll look to even things out a little—I can probably make combats a lot easier to run if I streamline the map process just a tiny bit. :P

1 person marked this as a favorite.
Female Kobold

"Morning, KC! So we need to kill and gut the four bantam roosters today. And that means catch them. Go do that!"
"one of them keeps running into the enclosure with the killer ram"
"Hmm neat okay well have fun!"

Fancy Swordplay:

The swashbuckler's Opportune Parry and Riposte states that the only important requirement for activation is,

Opportune Parry and Riposte wrote:

Using no language that bars attempts against attacks made at reach. However, it does state that while the swashbuckler can parry such an attack, the riposte portion of the ability can only be used

Opportune Parry and Riposte wrote:
...provided that creature is within her reach.

Clearly preventing retaliation if the swashbuckler themselves cannot reach the creature that attacked them.

Isamu Stabbed First:

Isamu cannot use Opportune Parry and Riposte with any attack that is not directed towards him. He can, however, use his standard action to Aid Another against an attack directed against Lily. This is an attack roll made against an AC of 10. He would need to ready the action, since he cannot Aid Another while an attacker isn't within range. Additionally, the attacker must be within Isamu's own attack reach in order to activate the Aid Another readied action.

Aid Another (Combat) wrote:
In melee combat, you can help a friend attack or defend by distracting or interfering with an opponent. If you’re in position to make a melee attack on an opponent that is engaging a friend in melee combat, you can attempt to aid your friend as a standard action. You make an attack roll against AC 10. If you succeed, your friend gains either a +2 bonus on his next attack roll against that opponent or a +2 bonus to AC against that opponent’s next attack (your choice), as long as that attack comes before the beginning of your next turn. Multiple characters can aid the same friend, and similar bonuses stack.

He could also make an Attack action as part of a Readied Action, so long as he ends his turn within reach of where he wishes to make the attack. Readied Actions are standard actions. He cannot ready a charge attempt. This is because when he could ready the charge, he could take more actions than just a standard action, preventing a standard action charge as part of the charge rules.

Charge wrote:
If you are able to take only a standard action on your turn, you can still charge, but you are only allowed to move up to your speed (instead of up to double your speed) and you cannot draw a weapon unless you possess the Quick Draw feat. You can’t use this option unless you are restricted to taking only a standard action on your turn.

This rule is due to an important developer philosophy: cavaliers cannot be allowed to have nice things.

None of these actions prevent Opportune Parry and Riposte against attacks directed against him.

Shutting down...

Ah, I should have checked here first. :D

Female Kobold

Holy s@+#, those rolls. Now watch as you guys end up fighting something really nasty and it gets two crits in a row, right?

Female Human 5th level Cleric

RNG gods are watching. Waiting for that perfect double crit.

Female Kobold

Sorry, I know I've been a bit scarce. There'll be an update in the morning. This is probably a tricky adventure to get into, due to the semi-sandboxy nature, so I understand some of this stuff is harder to respond to.

Female Kobold

Alright, west it is. I'm in town right now, but I'll post an update in about 6 hours when I get home.

Male Kitsune Swashbuckler (Inspired Blade) 1/ Paladin (Virtuous Bravo, Chosen One) 1 | HP 7/18| AC: 17 T: 14 Fl: 13 | CMB: +2 CMD: 16 | F +3 R +5 W +2 | Init +3 Perception +0| Panache 4/5

Unforutnately, Isamu won't be doing decent damage until 3rd level. XD

Female Human 5th level Cleric

I've been trying all afternoon to put this message out but

KC CAN'T UPDATE TILL THURSDAY

Kay.

Female Kobold

Finally, the site's working! Yeah, a ton of work suddenly came on my plate over the last few days. For one little tidbit of my current list of tasks, I now have to help edit someone's novel for about 25% of what I would get paid for equivalent time flipping burgers. So I need "a few days" (just one day, now, since I spent the last couple days scarcely able to access the forums) to get my schedule in order.

A post will be put up tomorrow, either noon or evening! Rex and Lily will be NPCed if they haven't posted by then.

Female Human 5th level Cleric

Also, I know your plight Almonihah.

Gunslingers don't really come online until higher levels either. At this point, Yeldrid is a glorified crossbower XD
