Way of the Wicked: Heralds of Hell (Inactive)

Game Master Divinitus

Time for the character creation process!

Level- Gestalt 1 (Stipulation: one side of the gestalt must be leveled up in a SINGLE class).

Ability Scores: 24 point buy system, from a base of 10, with increases and decreases to scores occurring on a one-for-one basis. Remember that no ability score may be higher than 18+-modifiers or lower than 08+-modifiers.

HP- Maximum per level.

Classes- Any official Paizo. You may inquire about third party material.

Alignment- LE or NE is highly preferred.

Race- Any official Paizo. You may inquire about third party material.

Skill Points- 2 bonus Skill Points per level.

Traits: 2, plus a Crime Trait, plus an additional Trait if you choose a Drawback.

Starting Equipment: Even though you will begin with no equipment, save for a ragged prisoner's garb, you will have 500 GP worth of belongings that have been confiscated by the prison in lockup.

Now, although this will not be until later, I would suggest looking up the Lords of the Nine Hells and having one in mind for being the character's 'patron'. Your patron will bestow upon you a unique permanent buff, a unique skill, AND a unique piece of equipment that levels in power with you. You may request specific things that you might want in regards to item type and power themes, but ultimately it will be my decision on what the item does.

One quick question from me before I leave you all to parsing out how to recreate/tune your characters: do you want the game to resume where it left off or do you want to just start fresh?

If you have any questions, feel free to let me know!

Dot.

I am currently almost done rebuilding Xoruk as a Thaumaturge/(Steelfist Commando) Warlord. I can either copy the stuff about the Thaumaturge to a Google document or just take screencaps with Gyazo, whichever is easier for you, DM. :)

Also, a cursory glance at the Lords of the Nine Hells shows that Geryon (lord of Stygia) is pretty much perfect for Xoruk. As the lord of the home of Hell's libraries of sin, it seems perfect for one who has dabbled in dark powers.

Damien/Nathanial checking in. I've updated Damien's sheet for your character creation rules, and I think Dispater would be the most appropriate archdevil for him. I'm going to see how the other recruitment goes before deciding which character to play in this game, because I really want to play Nathanial but I don't want to play him simultaneously in two different games.

Soren here. She was built to be a follower of Asmodeus, and I'm pretty comfortable leaving her as such. It fits pretty well with how I'd play her, anyway. You allow re-flavoring of traits, yes? I might take the trait that gives me Trapfinding from Mummy's Mask, if that's alright with you.

I'll update Soren before I go to work. Other than more points for ability scores, she should be mostly done, I'd just have to pick another trait for her drawback. I'll post my confiscated gear there as well. As for firearms, what is their level of prevalence? Would it be possible for me to get an advanced/modern firearm for Soren, or would I have to stick to early firearms?

Also, I for one don't care much if we start from the beginning again, but since we're all gonna be here it seems silly to not just retcon in the changes and keep going from where we were.

I'm okay with either starting over from the beginning or from where we were. It was a couple days of posting, at most, so we'll be past that point pretty quickly.

Also, was the patron instead of worshiping Asmodeus? Because Xoruk wouldn't choose between the two. He'd have Asmodeus as his primary deity, and then the various other Lords of the Nine Hells would deserve worship as well, because they're pretty much part of Asmodeus' pantheon. Geryon just happens to be the Lord that Xoruk is mostly likely to get his power from.

I'd rather start from where we just were, since we did that already, but if the Boss has anything different to start us out with it won't hurt my feelings to start anew. Whichever y'all prefer.

I'll have my new trait and ability scores updated tonight. I'll give some thought to the patron benefits (you know who my patron is), and get you a message about it.

Thanks for taking us on. I am really excited to continue.

I'm fine with either way. We've barely done anything so far, just got out of our cells and started killing the two guards on duty.

Okay, threw together a google document with Xoruk's Thaumaturge class and the various other Spheres of Power stuff he's using. :)

You can check it out here. In addition, I believe I've finished rebuilding him entirely. He should be 100% good-to-go. :D

That looks like a really cool class. Although I'm not a fan of getting to choose what stat you cast from, at least it's limited to mental stats (some 'godling' style class let you cast from everything, I don't care what your argument is, muscle doesn't make magic).

Alexander Armstrong is disappointed in you, Carl. His muscle magic has been handed down the Armstrong line for generations!

There is actually an option for casting off of Constitution, but it requires taking two Drawbacks. SoP is pretty cool in that you can actually reproduce all the drawbacks that normal Spellcasting has, but you don't have to.

Ok, my love for Alexander Armstrong is my one and only exception. With the exception that it's muscle alchemy ;)

I've never liked that ability to cast off Con.

First, let me apologize for posting late. I didn't wake up until around 5:00 P.M. and played Dying Light for hours before realizing the time!

So, the consensus is to restart where you all left off then? Go ahead and dot gameplay and discussion. Once you have, post in discussion that you are primed and ready to go. The campaign will resume once all five players have dotted the thread.

The fifth player should be on soon, posting from my profile (It's my girlfriend, who will get no DM/GM pet perks!).

Xoruk- Ah okay, so that's how it works. It is allowed. As for how the patron works, it can be in addition to. It's kind of like, as odd of a comparison, a patron saint for your character. The power and scaling item that you get will be tailored to both your character and your patron, which is why you must choose one. It's mostly for thematic purposes.

Soren- I will allow you to reflavor Traits.

Steven- You're welcome!

In light of Nathanial not being picked for your other game, would you be alright with me playing him here instead, as you suggested earlier?

Awesome. Did you see my firearms question? I don't really mind sticking to muskets, but I was curious if ever picking up a rifle would be possible. Either way, I'm thinking I'll flavor her firearm as being some sort of lever-action rifle, just to account for eventual free action reloading.

Also, I just thought of an idea for Soren, for later on. It could possibly even be her Asmodean boon, but if not I'll come up with some way to do it. Basically, the idea is Hellhounds. Soren has 1-2 Hellhounds that protect her in combat, and ravage enemies to give me attacks against them. I'm not sure how one goes about getting a Hellhound, though.

CampinCarl9127- I am perfectly fine with that. Once combat is finished, he will be in a cell with the other new PC. A question though: do you still want Damien in the campaign as an NPC or would you rather him face Talingarde's justice?

Soren- As of now, firearms are in the early stage, due to them being seen as dishonorable by most in Talingarde. There are still specialty gun stores in major cities and a few NPCs have been outfitted with them. To further answer your question, you may have a rifle later on. You may also request a scaling magic firearm as your Patron Boon once everyone chooses Patrons later on. Sound amenable?

If you want to use Damien as an NPC, feel free to. If you have no use for him, I don't have any plans for him.

Thanks for giving me a chance to play Nathanial! I'll get him updated shortly.

I added the additional trait. There aren't a lot of traits out there that make sense for Shalewigg, so I modified the Black SHeep trait from Runelords. Her parents never watched her closely, or were creeped out by her, and so she snuck around a lot. It uses the same mechanics as the trait, but blames the parents instead of a bitter noble.

Is "24 point buy a typo? Cause it says 24, but normal point buys are 20 or 25. We made our dudes with 25 so dropping a point will hurt. : )

It's 24 on a point for point basis, not scaling. So actually, our abilities scores went UP, not down.

Scarab Sages RPG Superstar 2013

Oh...so 14 costs 1 and not 2? I can work with that.

Yeah. Getting a score to 14 is 4 points, and getting it to 18 is 8. It's a nice set-up.

Also, if I were to get a rifle, would you allow me to treat it as a musket for Musket Master? There isn't really an archetype for advanced firearms. Pistolero works for all pistols, but rifles, by the rules, are considered different than muskets and thus Musket Master would be a useless archetype for me.

Scarab Sages RPG Superstar 2013

Alright...minor changes are completed. Still debating a Str of 16 instead of increasing Dex, but she's ready to go for now.

Soren- I will allow that minor tweaking.

CampinCarl9127- You're welcome! I rather like this crew. :)

I made some pretty big changes to Xoruk today (changed from Thaumaturge to Soul Weaver, and from the Conjuration Sphere to the Death Sphere). I updated the google doc to reflect the changes, so you can peruse it at your leisure. :)

I also saw only two people have dotted recruitment. Has everyone else did one of the 'invisidots'?

No, they would show up under the players and characters tab if they did. Soren and Shalewigg have yet to dot.

Okay, cool. Otherwise I'd just do something other than Musket Master, but I like the idea of it.
