I say we each grab a key. XD If they're all the same, it never hurts to have more people capable of opening stuff.

Celestine, the Hellish Incanter |

Ah, yes. o wo~ Well, that takes care of that.
I think I can still store some lightweight valuables we can distribute later...
(This'll get easier once Celestine's storage is actually of a good size. XD)

Celestine, the Hellish Incanter |

On a more meta level for Celestine's personality, Play-By-Post is slow as it is, without needing to kick every puppy and burn every orphanage along the way. XD For the most part, I'll be trying to avoid side-quests and stay focused on the main plot. Keeps things going, y'know?
(Although speaking of going, I won't be here for the next three days. o wo/)

Announcement:
Since Ultimate Intrigue is now available to subscribers, I'm letting everyone know that I'm not allowing it AT ALL for the time being. When it shows up on the Archives, that might change, but after that playtest, I don't want the book anywhere near my tables.
Fair enough. Good to know, actually, as I do intend to be taking a look at it myself. Didn't see anything from the playtest on this one, but the ideas proposed sounded interesting.

Also this. Sholano is definitely a details-oriented kinda guy, but I'm gonna try and keep my sidetracking to hand-wavey "and then I did a bunch of stuff" kind of things whenever possible, in the interest of continuing the story.

Sholano Gale |
1 person marked this as a favorite. |

If the Sergeant has nothing left to offer, Sholano's gonna murder him or encourage Erick to do so immediately. We need to keep up our pace getting out of here before too many more guards converge on us.

Marvin Fenster |

I'm getting married this weekend and then will be off on my honeymoon next week. Please feel free to control my character so my absence doesn't slow things down.

Celestine, the Hellish Incanter |

Celestine doesn't really want any of that loot, so feel free grab stuff without worrying about her. ^^

Sholano Gale |

I just got around to glancing at your character sheet, Erick, while Sholano was sizing you up. Just from your attributes, my brain came to the following conclusion.
Sholano is going to love having Erick around, once we've had a little time to chat. Big, violent, and a bit gullible? Fantastic.

Sholano Gale |

Hm. Seems like Sholano's trying to take a little bit of command here. I wonder how this is going to go over.
Does anybody else have their characters demand to do something they didn't expect sometimes? Happens to me pretty regularly.
Oh, and on a more technical note - the hall Sholano is intending to cover a few squares of with oil and (eventually) fire is room 16, in case that wasn't clear. That's assuming the guard noises are coming from the stairs in that room, otherwise adjust as you think is appropriate to somewhere he might think they'd be coming from.

Celestine, the Hellish Incanter |

I try to roleplay my characters as actual characters, with specific motivations. XD Since I know what their motivations are, I'm usually not surprised by what they'd do - although I do occasionally find a new situation and have to make a snap judgment.

Sholano Gale |

I do too, naturally, but sometimes they get away from me. Their personalities sort of develop on their own and I find them wanting to do things I wouldn't usually have pegged them as doing if I thought about it from a purely intellectual place. I'm an actor by inclination and (sometimes) trade, so I tend to throw myself into their mindset as much as possible and see where they go (weirder and harder when playing villains!). I find it fascinating, though I try not to think too hard about what it might say about my psyche. =P

Zyx looks upon Sholano, Erik and Linus as mere tools. They lack any spellcasting abilities and are thus limited. i think Zyx wont take kindly to a thief leading the party.

Zyxtyvia Darkshadow |

which is why Zyx stood by the door leading towards the kitchen...

Sholano has much the same attitude about...well, everyone, actually, but especially people without much in the way of social guile. He doesn't much care about taking command, personally (he'd rather be in the shadows, most days), but he does get rolling when he thinks he's got a good idea. One way or another, this should be interesting.

Celestine, the Hellish Incanter |

I think it's obvious by now, but Celestine has a low opinion of those who don't think big. XD
A thief who just wants to rob a place for money is the lowest.
A thief who trains hard and commits major robberies (usually for valuable items or large amounts of coin) is still low, but better than petty thieves, because at least they're going for a big payoff.
A thief who steals things with the intent of exposing secrets and undermining people in positions of power who are a threat to their goals may actually be worth dealing with.
After all, she is lawful evil. XD If thievery is involved, she'd be more of a robber baron (running a well-regulated criminal enterprise) than an opportunist. Like, say, Gentleman Johnny Marcone, if anyone else here has read the Dresden Files.

Zyxtyvia Darkshadow |

Baron Marcone now.

What about a thief who likes all three options? =P
Also, yay Dresden Files.

Sholano Gale |

Honestly, though, Celestine, if you get a chance, take a look at Sholano's backstory. He's made a couple of mistakes in his history (mostly due to arrogance), and scored an awful lot of people's money along the way, but his real game is the darker side of politics - he came back to Talingarde to enact revenge on the Mitran church for getting him tossed out of his noble house. He might like thievery, but in the end, he's playing a much larger game, with the money just being a means to an end. He might not exactly be Marcone, but a simple burglar he ain't.
...Actually, come to think of it, he'd only be a mediocre burglar at best if he tried. He's got the knowhow, and he can definitely pull the easier jobs, but frankly, his Dex just couldn't keep up with the top end of that particular profession. He's much better at getting other people to do the dirty work.
Huh. Now I'm really wondering about this. If Sholano was really trying to be a thief instead of a politician/spymaster/wicked vizier, I think he'd end up being something like Danny Ocean (without the scruples), or maybe Locke Lamora. Fascinating.

Celestine, the Hellish Incanter |

My example was mostly a general one, not TOO specifically about Sholano. XD It holds true across the spectrum, though. She prefers people with genuine ambition, because they're better at helping her achieve her goals.

Sholano Gale |

Sorry I've been totally absent the last few days, folks: I've been on the road, and there was less time than I thought there would be to post stuff. I totally should've warned you ahead of time, my bad. Anyway, I'm headed home tomorrow, so I should be back to regular levels of attention-paying by Wednesday at worst (if long car trips destroy me tomorrow).

Sholano Gale |

Woop - definitely thought I'd already posted something. I'll get to it today, but safe to assume that Sholano follows after Erick soon as it's clear we're not getting stabbed on the other side of the door.

Marvin Fenster |

Do we want to take their dogs so they have a hard time tracking us? >.>

Zyxtyvia Darkshadow |

better just to kill them

Your Benevolent Dictator |

I need someone to summarize the plan so I can update.
--------------------------------
*copied to all my games*
There won't be much activity from me until next week. I have a 15+ hour workday tomorrow, and then will be at MegaCon. On that note, if you happen to be attending, let me know so I can say hi. :-)

Celestine, the Hellish Incanter |

I'm pretty sure we're just moving as best we can, ready to retaliate the moment anyone bothers us. XD

![]() |

Yup. Erick is walking ahead as a 'prisoner so our more diplomatic people dressed as guards can try to talk us past first.

Zyxtyvia Darkshadow |

get close, bluff, overwhelm, kill them, run off...

Sholano Gale |

Sorry I took so long chiming in there, folks. I'm on day 20 or so of a streak with no days off, and also started rehearsing a play this week. My brain is starting to melt a little. I'll try to stay more on it, though.

Linus Traian |

I will be taking a few days to myself. I live in orlando and have a lot of friends in the LGBTQ community so I want to make sure they are all okay before I do anything else. Sorry for any inconvenience this causes, but I need to take some time.

Zyxtyvia Darkshadow |

godspeed to them.

Celestine, the Hellish Incanter |

Speaking of equally splitting cash, do you guys want to split stuff six or seven ways? Celestine has that GP in her extradimensional storage, currently unallocated.
(The seventh would be the "Party" loot, for buying things like Wands of CLW and other restoratives or useful items that any of us might need.)

Zyxtyvia Darkshadow |

*Looks up*
...You know, a slave or two COULD be interesting. XD GM, how much freedom might we have for that? (In terms of designing them and their personalities - obviously, I'm not expecting to just buy NPCs with class levels or anything)

Your Benevolent Dictator |

The slaves you've been given won't be yours permanently. They're meant to satisfy your more carnal urges and won't be coming with you once the plot advances.
That being said, if anyone wants to buy slaves, that CAN happen but will be difficult. It's not legal in Talingarde, for one thing. I'll also mention that this campaign allows (and encourages) PCs to take the Leadership Feat. It's modified to facilitate the creation of a guild/cult/etc or grant you several useful contacts throughout the country.

Yes. Most definitely, Sholano is all about the shadow organization dealy. Ex-TREME-ly picking up Leadership come 7th. Slaves...probably not so much with the slaves, most of the time. Not out of any particular moral issue, but more because it's damn hard to ensure the loyalty of folk who aren't there of their own free will.
Also, on the saved potion - that works fine for me! I actually escaped Branderscar relatively unscathed, so I'm fine with a dinky heal for now and saving some for later.
