"Dangerous?" He laughs and lifts the man's chin before pushing his head to the side. "For a man who has had a bounty on his head for 10 years you might think so, but he ain't. Tried casting a spell to run away without a fight, but it didn't work out for him."
He has a look over a yellowed old report. "Jask Derindi, male Dafari now age 45. Formerly a government official in the Protectorate, now wanted on charges–"

Jask Derindi |

"On charges of corruption and illicit deals with the Confederation of Freebooters. Yes, the same evidence I uncovered against my superiors! The are all lies! I was a simple scri–"
The man's impassioned protestations are brought to an end when one of the guards strikes him in the solar plexus with the butt of their halberd.

No One of Consequence |

The constable rolls his eyes, "And I'm the King of Ilmarond! Tell it to the new governor when they get there. If they live long enough, they might actually give a hoot."
Turning back to Alizandru, he says, "Anyway, it's like that. The man's a former paper-pusher, was working in a town further south as a scribe. My grandmum's more dangerous and she passed on 12 years ago, gods rest her soul."
"Anyway, there's a reward for whoever brings him in. It's not big enough for me to bother a special trip, but since you're headed that way anyhow..."
He hands over Jask's papers and Captain Kovack looks over them for a moment. Finally giving a sigh, he motions for Ishirou and Mr. Devers to take the man below.
"A real pleasure doing business with you again captain. Like I said, it's not much but it'll more than compensate you for the stowage and meals. Say, bring back some of that dark rum they make down south and we'll have a drink next time you pass thru. I'll be interested to see how things are developing down there. A lot of investors have been reconsidering the trade viabilities the way things have been going. Syrene go with you!"
The captain nods to the constable and then murmurs an apology to Lisa and Gelik as he follows his men down into the aft cabins.

Laithoron |

You are once again underway shortly after Brightpool begins its ascent in the east — not even an hour past noon. For the rest of the day, the White Pearl sails westward towards the mainland. Given the high number of fishing vessels in the area, the captain has Mr. Devers maintain a slower course.
At your present rate, by nightfall you reach the channel that separates this, the largest island in the archipelago, from the one closest to the mainland. With any luck, by Lansday evening you will have reached Titan's Cove, your last port of call before Light's End.
Once you are underway, 'Ellie' approaches Sasha, who has been keeping to herself near the prow and asks, "How are you doing this fine afternoon?"

Sasha Nevah |

Caught in a rare moment of relative stillness and quiet, the red head looks about to see if the curvaceous brunette is addressing someone else. When she sees no one else, she gives a lopsided grin and grabs a line to swing herself up onto the railing where she has a seat. Hooking one foot behind one of the balusters, she leans back over the water and holds her hands up in the air.
"Well I'm doing great, thanks for asking! I hear we took on a political prisoner in the last port. That sounds kind of exciting don't you think? Speaking of excitement, what was all that ruckus in your cabin a few days ago. It sounded like your Momma was giving you a whooping! Oh, and why did your Pa get off the ship? Nobody seemed to pay him much mind except your Momma, what's up with that?"
She puts her hands on the railing and leans forward, legs kicking and eyes bright as she awaits whatever it is you came over to talk about, her mouth open and face lit up with a silly, expectant smile. It about reminds Lureene of the look Grak makes when he's expecting a morsel of food.

Lureene Ourson |

Lureene gives Sasha a silly grin of her own, "Oh you noticed that, haha. Well, let's just say Momma got a little excited when I told her I might be pregnant. I said Andre would be a good father, but she doesn't believe him. As for Poppa, he has other business to take care of, in Mallos, I think. They don't tell me about all that money stuff, ha ha, as long as I can eat, that's all that matters to me."
She gazes across the bow watching the waves, and continues in quieter voice, "I overheard the captain talking about him. Do you think that guy is dangerous? No one seems to think so, but I am scared of him! Oh, what should I do, Sasha?'
Bluff, for the heck of it. 1d20 + 14 + 1 ⇒ (1) + 14 + 1 = 16 lying
Waitaminute, is Ushari here?

Sasha Nevah |

At your comments about being pregnant, Sasha arches an eyebrow and tilts her head to one side. You get the feeling that she's trying to figure out if Ellie is messing with her. After a moment, she says, "Oh! Haha! Well that's... kind of funny actually, huh? Guess that's what they get for not filling you in on the old family business!"
When talk turns to that of the prisoner, Sasha's eyes light up. "Oooh, I wonder if he's a spy or an assassin or something! Wouldn't that be exciting? He doesn't look like much, but you don't really know until you cross blades with someone. Say, your husband looks like he's seen some combat, I bet he could tell some war stories!"
Sasha gives a sigh and a silly laugh, flipping her hair over her shoulder with her injured hand. "If we run into any pirates, I'd put some money on him taking out at least a few! Oh man, that would be so great..."
The woman bites her lip as if savoring the thought and turns around, seemingly scanning the seas for signs of any ships that might be pirates.

Lureene Ourson |

Lureene joins Sasha in scanning the horizon, but inwardly groans at the mention of assassins. As if this trip was not bad enough, now she had to worry about possible assassins. Well, at least if there was an assassin aboard, it would NOT be Jask, as that would be too obvious. She wonders if maybe Sasha was an assasin herself. But if she was, then who was her target? Was their cover already blown?
She wonders at the true story behind Jask, and briefly considers using magic on him, but quickly discards the idea. The risk of it being discovered outweighed the potential benefits of what they might learn. Plus, the Captain certainly had him under lock and key.
She thinks about the drunkard Aerys, and what her 'husband' said about her owing a debt to the captain. She could not think of any way to use that against her, but the trip was still early.
If there are pirates, then hopefully they will be drawn to 'Her Lady's Grace' and not to us.
"Sasha, it was nice talking to you, but I really should find my husband, he is probably sneaking a nap, I'll bet." She stands to her feet, and stretches, enjoying the fresh sea breezes. She then hops down to the main deck, but turns to Sasha again, "Are you sure you are OK?"

Sasha Nevah |

Editing to keep things in order. Damn ninjas! :P
"Sasha, it was nice talking to you, but I really should find my husband, he is probably sneaking a nap, I'll bet."
Sasha's shoulders slump a little bit, but she still smiles and says, "Mmm, a nap actually sounds pretty good you know. You should go join him."
"Are you sure you are OK?"
She looks almost surprised by the question. "Me? Oh, never been better! Thanks for asking though, I'll talk at ya later I guess!"
With that, she leans over the prow, running her hands over the face of the mermaid on the figurehead. Lureene can hear the almost inaudible whisper, "Looks like it's just you and me now beautiful!"

'Lisa' approaches her nurse and says, "Sarah, I do believe my emotions get the better of me seeing Gerrold off like that. My heart is all aflutter. Help me to my berth, before I fall down, dear..."
Once they are out of earshot of the rest of the crew, she comments, "Gelik, that gnomish fellow, is actually a member of The Academy it seems. I get the feeling he had to leave Malatesta in a hurry though, still trying to figure out why."
It doesn't take long for the two women to reach the door to your cabin. As agreed upon by all of you, you knock first just in case someone has removed their hair pin. After a moment, 'Andre' opens the door and let you in. Atop the desk within, you can see that he's been hard at work imbuing an amulet to aid Priyya in her defense. In fact, it appears that he was in the process of cleaning up and has actually finished it.
"Oh well it looks like someone has had a productive voyage so far! Nicely done, 'Andre'!"
Ben: I'll leave it to you to describe what it looks like and to actually give the complete amulet to Priyya (in case you wanted to RP it or anything).
A moment later, there is another knock at the door and Ellie enters, "Oh, nice timing!"
Now behind closed doors, Alis removes her hair pin and breathes a sigh of relief and hops up into her hammock. "I really can't stand feeling all wrinkly like that. Anyway, I managed to overhear the conversation between our captain and the constable while we were in that last port. In case any of you missed what was said, either that man, Jask, had a warrant on him for making crooked deals while he was a government employee in Dafar a decade ago. Now he claims that it was actually his superiors who were making those deals, but who knows for sure."
She looks up with a serious gaze in her eyes. "If the man is indeed guilty, then it's a trifle. 'The governor' can deal with such a matter when time permits. However, if he's telling the truth, then that points to a far greater concern — one that it might behoove a ruler to learn of prior to taking office."
"Do any of you have any thoughts on the matter? It would appear that the room in which he is being held is just down the hall from ours. I'll attempt a reading later on, but can Alíta provide any spells that might avail us during direct questioning?"

Lureene Ourson |

Lureene heads down to the cabin, still feeling guilty about her talk with Sasha. I need to see if she is ok later, perhaps after we reach our next port.
Once she has entered the cabin, and closed the door behind her, she keeps her hairpin in her hair, for although she misses the presence of her wings, it would be somewhat difficult to explain. She hops onto one of the bunks, and replies quietly, "I was thinking the same thing, Momma. Sasha thinks he is some kind of assassin, but I don't think so. I do have...certain talents to discover thoughts of others, so if you are OK with that, then I will certainly assist in your questioning."
She glances towards the Captain's cabin, "Is this something we should not inform the Captain?" On Alis's questioning look, she clarifies "Should we keep the Captain in the dark, or should we ask for permission first?"

Alis Kirmoon |

Oops! Missed Mal's reply while I was working on the NPCs' exchange earlier. This is probably the most convenient time for him to report it though...
Mal finds a time to relay the conversation he overheard about Aerys, thinking maybe there's some leverage to be had either for the girl, the group, or the ship's captain...
"Basically, the captain walked away muttering, 'Reckon we'll figure another way she can pay 'er way if'n she's too sotted to do an honest day's work.' I didn't know how it could immediately be useful, but surely we can collectively think of a way to turn this bit of information to our benefit."
"Hmm, so it sounds like the black-haired half-elf is an alcoholic." She gives a laugh and shakes her head. "Now there's a cliche for you, a drunken sailor who gets into brawls. At least in this case it's a woman."
"So she's not a regular member of the crew, but a passenger working to pay her way to either Light's End or some point further south." She thinks on the matter, tapping her forefinger against her lips. "Unless she's a miser or just that bored, I doubt Aerys would be working if she could simply afford passage on a swift ship like this. I wonder what the purpose of her trip is and if she'd be of any use to us if a kindly old woman took pity on her situation..."

Lureene Ourson |

Alis frowns a bit. "Ever hear the saying that it's better to beg for forgiveness than to ask for permission?"
Lureene chuckles lightly, "Why, I believe you have Momma! Is that how you were able to tie Poppa down in marriage?"
"So she's not a regular member of the crew, but a passenger working to pay her way to either Light's End or some point further south." She thinks on the matter, tapping her forefinger against her lips. I wonder what the purpose of her trip is and if she'd be of any use to us if a kindly old woman took pity on her situation..."
Lureene twirls a black strand of her hair around her finger, and absentminded starts chewing on it. "Hmmm, Momma, I think that is a good idea, especially since Poppa has left. She seems pretty capable sort, and it would be nice to have someone who can handle themselves in a fight." She notices her hair strands in her mouth, and hastily removes them, not wanting to risk any split ends. "We should see if she wants to share dinner with us."

Alis Kirmoon |

"Why, I believe you have Momma! Is that how you were able to tie Poppa down in marriage?"
Alis laughs and continues the act by replying, "Well, at least that's how we got it by your grandfather! He didn't care too much for Gerrold when we first met."
"Hmmm, Momma, I think that is a good idea, especially since Poppa has left. She seems pretty capable sort, and it would be nice to have someone who can handle themselves in a fight. ... We should see if she wants to share dinner with us."
"Don't chew your hair dear. I knew a girl when I was younger than you who did that. She died because her stomach split open. All the hair chewing formed a big wad in her tummy." she shudders, "It looked like she'd swallowed a badger when the coroner cut it out of her..."
"As for dinner... well I suppose that would be the forward approach now wouldn't it?" Alis looks over to the quiet forms of Priyya and Mal and asks, "Did either of you have thoughts on any more subtle tactics? If the woman is actually an alcoholic and not merely a rowdy sailor, taking her out to dinner when we reach Titan's Cove could be... embarrassing. Also, what is our proposition for her? Guard? Informer?"

Priyya Surya-ka-Vahaak |

"...I'll attempt a reading later on, but can Alíta provide any spells that might avail us during direct questioning?"
Priyya nods, "I can pray for the ability to create an area of truth. It is not infallible and the spell will effect us as well... but it can be done."
"Did either of you have thoughts on any more subtle tactics? If the woman is actually an alcoholic and not merely a rowdy sailor, taking her out to dinner when we reach Titan's Cove could be... embarrassing. Also, what is our proposition for her? Guard? Informer?"
Priyya shrugs, "I'm not sure I understand the point of recruiting a drunk in the first place. Why would 'Lisa' et cetera, be looking to do that? If we are trying to remain inconspicuous then shouldn't we limit our intelligence gathering to more subtle methods?"

Lureene Ourson |

Lureene resists the urge to chew on her hair again. When did I pick up that habit? She replies to 'Sarah', "If we are to maintain pretenses, then looking to hire extra protection, especially since we are headed into a troubling situation would be prudent."
Lureene gets up and paces the cabin floor, clearly her mind working hard, "If she needs a honest wage, then she might consider working for Momma. Plus I would not mind knowing why she is headed south as well. You don't need to sail in order to get drunk, despite what Poppa has said."
She shrugs, "If she cannot control her tendencies, then we bid her farewell, no harm done."

Alis Kirmoon |

"I can pray for the ability to create an area of truth. It is not infallible and the spell will effect us as well... but it can be done."
"Us telling the truth could be... problematic, although if it is the same spell that Bishop Tredônia cast, then it doesn't actually compel someone to speak, it merely forces them to tell the truth when they do speak."
Alis thinks for a moment, reflecting on topics she recalls both Alexis, and Lureene talking about. Suddenly her eyes light up. "Priyya, you said it is an area spell correct? Since it persists for a while, that must mean it's an emanation right? As long as it's not also a spread, or we remain outside it's area, then it wouldn't affect us. My message cantrip doesn't need to travel in a straight line and it can go thru cracks as small as say... the gap under a door."
She beams a big smile, pleased that she's actually picked a thing or two about how magic works from the company she keeps.
"I'm not sure I understand the point of recruiting a drunk in the first place. Why would 'Lisa' etcetera, be looking to do that? If we are trying to remain inconspicuous then shouldn't we limit our intelligence gathering to more subtle methods?"
"Well that's part of the reason I asked. I don't see much point in recruiting a drunk either. However, for the next few weeks we're stuck in a 'closed circle'. The resources we potentially have access to are limited to what is already inside that circle. I think that's what my son-in-law was getting at when he brought up the idea. And yes, I certainly prefer more discrete forms of intel."
"If we are to maintain pretenses, then looking to hire extra protection, especially since we are headed into a troubling situation would be prudent."
"Just because she gave the First Mate a bruised cheek doesn't mean she's cut out for that sort of thing. Also, she's already displayed that she cannot control her tendencies. That's the problem. It's also why I was asking if any of you had thoughts on what potential for usefulness she has."
The princess gets up and raises her hands in the air. "About the most good I can see is that if she likes us, she's less likely to slug us when she gets drunk and more apt to go along with a friendly suggestion. Although, to be honest, I'd feel better about myself in the morning if I helped someone to rise above a personal failing rather than exploiting it for my own gain."

Priyya Surya-ka-Vahaak |

"There are a few stops before we reach our goal... not all of them 'troubled'. To hire that woman under the story you propose, would seem to publicize our destination. If she is a drunk that babbles, our destination will become public knowledge. I'm not even sure if the Captain yet knows our final destination. It wouldn't surprise me if Lisa purchased our fare to another destination."
"IF we are looking to recruit 'guards' - Ishirou seems a more likely choice, not a boozed up sailor."

Alis Kirmoon |

"When I was looking into our 'means of conveyance', I was specifically looking for vessels that travel as far south as Port Eldarion. Since and vessels traveling into the Gulf of Dafar have to stop at Light's End, we have the opportunity to disembark or continue as we see fit."
"At this point, I specified that I was interested in reserving this cabin for the duration of its port rotation. Since Mallos is a port-of-call on the return trip, there's no reason to think that might not be our final destination also. Perhaps to reunite with Gerrold after concluding business elsewhere."
"On the topic of additional guards," she shakes her head, "I'd rather not. The only reason for someone to hire guards is if they need them. Like 'Sarah' says, that would only attract curiosity."
"If we don't encounter any problems while aboard the White Pearl, then I'd prefer not to change vessels. The more often we do, the more often we expose ourselves to a whole new set of potential threats. Also," She thumps on the hull of the ship with the side of her fist, "this 'clipper' is a fast ship. At the rate we're moving, we should arrive as quickly as if this were a military ship on a direct course..."
She laugh, "I might have to eat my words about who the better ship builders are if I see that giant, Roshen, again."
"As for where Aerys is going, I don't think Andre said. What about that red-head you've been talking to, Ellie? Besides that gnome, Gelik, she seems to be the only other person on board that has taken a particular interest in any of us. Well, aside from the time your father spent talking with the captain and first mate anyway. Incidentally, I get the impression that Gelik didn't know where this ship was headed when he boarded. It seems he was in something of a hurry to get out of Malatesta. I'm not certain why yet, but I did discover that is a member of The Academy and deals in antiques. Judging by the way he dresses, I'd say expensive antiques."
Alright, that's about enough for me for one night. Tomorrow I'm planning to get a map of the ship posted. Been looking for good ones all day, but everything I've found requires compromise. Need to do a bit of editing before I have something suitable.

Lureene Ourson |

Lureene replies to her 'mother', "Well, considering how she came onto Andre so quickly, she was hoping for some male company. She reminds me of myself when I was younger..." Her voice trails off, her mind taken back to days long past.
After a moment, she jerks back to the present and continues, "After talking with Sasha some more, I get the impression she is lonely, and could use a friend. I was considering asking her to sup with us, maybe after we arrive at Titan's Cove. What do you think?"

Malandraenas |

"I tend to agree with Pr..." he sighs, shaking his head at the need for all this duplicity and opts to just point at Priyya. "...with her. I'm all for knowing about the people around us, but I'm not sure we need to recruit or employ them. Though I guess I'd rather have them as friends than enemies."
He thinks for a few moments, "Though I might go share a watch with the Aerys girl. More than any other ploy, a simple conversation may be the best way to find anything out about her."

Alis Kirmoon |

What is it with Lureene wanting to take everyone to dinner?
"I happen to agree with you, Andre. Personally I'm starting to think that Ellie just really wants to be winded and dined." Alis laughs lightly and winks at her friend. "Let's just keep things casual for now. Sarah, if you have any thoughts on some good probing questions for Jask, let's get those worked out. In the meantime, we'll keep an eye out for when no one is in their quarters so that we can conduct our questioning with greater privacy. Since it is possible to resist that spell, as Lucia proved to us, it might be worth our while to use it on multiple occasions to ensure any answers we receive match up."
"In the meanwhile," she stretches, "it sounds like the cook is ringing the dinner bell in the galley above us. Let's get some supper and then perhaps some rest..."
MAP: The White Pearl, (N/PC Sleeping Quarters)
Going to be out for the rest of the day. Dinner with my folks followed by karaoke with friends. Feel free to work on any plans, etc. Ben, if you want to RP giving that finished amulet to Priyya then go for it.

Malandraenas |

As they all gather up to leave, Mal grabs Darkmane's arm, "Stay here for a moment. I finished your amulet."
He steps over to his bunk and digs around in his stowed pack, pullin out something wrapped in a simple white rag. As she unwraps it, he shrugs, "It may not be much to look at, but it should give you an edge. Can't have our Darkmane falling to a stray arrow, right?"
What she unwraps is just what he said. On a simple braided strand of blackened leather hangs some form of shell, like one would find on the small colorful crabs running up and down the waters around the city of Malatesta. The shell itself is simple enough, though Mal did seem to find one that was a shining off-white color with a pearlescent surface buffed to reflect the light.
"Anyway, hope it comes in handy. And try not to lose it, will you?"
I'll have to think about my approach to he drunk girl...

Priyya Surya-ka-Vahaak |

Priyya admires the necklace for a moment before putting it on. "I think its quite attractive and I prefer that it be understated. I'm not into flashy jewelry. Thanks, Mal." She smooths the necklace, "So, does it look good? Does this mean we're engaged now?" She smiles and laughs at the look on his face.

Malandraenas |

"Well, you're welcome, I…" Mal's eyes widen in surprise and confusion as Darkmane asks her two final questions… his mind spinning fruitlessly to figure out if she's serious…
"Well.. yah.. uh… anyway." And he turns, walking into the wall next to the door. He rubs his head with one final look back at Darkmane and heads out the door.

Ishirou |

The four of you make your way top-side to get some dinner. Outside your cabin, Talvyra (still in canine form) is resting atop the bedding Mal placed atop some crates in the ship's small cargo hold. She looks up at her big brother with big, green eyes as he passes and he has the distinct impression that she is well aware it is meal time and expects to be well compensated for guarding the approach to your quarters.
You are a bit surprised to find that no one is taking their meals at the long tables on the lower deck. It doesn't take long to figure out why though, from inside her cabin, you can hear Aerys alternately moaning, banging on the door, and cursing like a sailor.
Ishirou, who is sitting on his hammock, not far away nods politely and remarks, "Prease excuse. Sick woman no member of Captain's crew. This good ship!"

Gelik Aberwhinge |

Top-side, you find those sailors who aren't manning the sails or the helm taking their meal atop the sterncastle on the quarterdeck. You can also overhear Sasha and Gelik complaining to Captain Kovack about how difficult it is to get any rest with Aerys clamoring for a drink.
Upon seeing you approach, Gelik waves and says, "Lisa, my friend, please suggest to the good Captain here, that he should put that obnoxious woman off the ship at the next port!"

Alis Kirmoon |

Alis turns to see Mal and Priyya bringing up the rear. "Far be it from me to tell a captain how to run his ship. However..."
"Andre," she calls out, waving Mal over, "My son-in-law spent these past few years in the military. Andre dear, how did the marines in your unit handle things when you had a problem with a soldier who was a problematic drunk like this?"
The Captain gives a sigh of resignation, scratches the back of his head and looks to see what the big man has to say.

Malandraenas |

Mal looks between Alis and the captain, "Well, it was pretty simple. Issues that didn't affect a soldier's work, his ability to fight, or his unit's reputation were overlooked. If it became a problem he got reprimanded. Depending on the severity of the offense, he could be verbally called out, given extra duties, had his pay docked, or beaten til he could barely walk." He shrugs, "Our unit was somewhat of an anomaly, however…. with a more free-form organization. Plus, in the military, you've signed on and agreed to uphold its rules and expectations. I don't know if that's the case with these sailors… or that girl, for that matter."

First Mate Alton Devers |

First Mate Devers furrows his brow looking between Mal, and his Captain, pointedly ignoring the red-head.
"Cap'n, I've never had a problem disciplining a member of the crew," he says without pride or enjoyment, "but for one, she's not a regular, and for another, I don't believe in striking a woman."

Captain Alizandru Kovack |

"Arright, arright!" Captain Kovack waves his hands for everyone to give him a moment. "First things first, that lass ain't a member o' my crew, otherwise I'da put 'er in 'er place! But, her daddy be an ol' friend o' mine though so I told 'er she could pay what she could an' jus' work tha rest."
"That bein' tha case," he presses his finger into his palm for emphasis, and raises his voice, "I ain't puttin' my friend's lil' girl off in a strange port e'en if she is a thrice-damned drunk! I'll gladly change up yer rooms, or refund ye passengers yer fare at Titan's Cove if'n ye wanna git off, but that's the most I kin do. If'n ye gots any suggestions that don't involve beatin' Aerys ta hell or tossin' 'er overboard I'll be hearin' 'em. Otherwise, yet bellyachin' ain't no worse 'n 'ers!"

Malandraenas |

"Not to intrude - and gender biases aside - captain, but either she's a part of your crew or not. If she is, then you treat her so. If not, well, I'm not sure what to tell you, then, cause she has no reason to respect your authority. Just my opinion, anyway."
Hmmm... could have sworn i got that post in before yours... oh well.

Priyya Surya-ka-Vahaak |

Sarah's face looks pinched and unamused as only a woman of her advancing years can. "If the girl is simply an ill-behaved sot, there is nothing to be done about that. BUT, if she is suffering from withdrawal then I may be able to ease her pains enough to quiet her down so the rest of us can get some rest."
Mike - let me know if a heal check is appropriate, etc.

Lureene Ourson |

Ellie thinks for a moment, then asks, ”Captain, sir, if I may, have you tried talking to her about why she feels a need to drink? I mean, does she have personal issues she is dealing with? Maybe that is why she is drinking so much, to forget her problems. “
She looks at Sarah, and nods in approval, ”Sarah, you are good at that kind of stuff, helping me with my issues. Maybe you can talk to her?”

Alis Kirmoon |

Lisa give the Captain an apologetic look and takes Ellie's hand to lead her towards the galley. "Now dear, there's no need to mention such things in front of strangers. It's none of their concern. Let's leave this to Sarah and get you some dinner. Gelik, would you care to join us? If you'll excuse us, Captain."
With that, the two leave to go get some supper.
Justin: Go ahead and make a heal check to see what you can do for her. I'll reply further in a little bit. Need fooooood!

Captain Alizandru Kovack |

The Captain grumbles something indecipherable under his breath as the gnome departs. He then clears his throat and says, "Miss Sarah is it? Gerrold said ye was a healer o' some sort. If'n ye kin help Aerys, sure as the sea is wet, 'twould be a right favor. Break 'er pappy's heart if'n 'e saw 'er like this."

Priyya Surya-ka-Vahaak |

Before everyone leaves...
"Fiddlesticks!" says Sarah in a suitably curmudgeonly fashion, "You youngsters get so wrapped up in the drama of your lives, you can't tell your left shoe from your right hand! If she is truly suffering from the tremors, I'll help her. If she is just a spoilt brat, well she can scream all night for all I care! My hearing isn't so good anymore and I've got wax to put in my ears if need be. How do you think I tolerated all the romantical sobbings and wailings of you girls, eh?"
Sarah turns to the Captain, "Maybe she's got problems, maybe her only problem is an elbow that likes to move a pint to her mouth. I'll talk with the girl IF she behaves herself but I'll brook none of her nonsense, Captain. I'll scruff her like a kitten if she comes at me... friend's daughter or no! And, believe me, the one thing I know how to do is set willful little girls in line."
Priyya is clearly warming to her role as 'nasty-tempered-disapproving-old-spinster-nurse'.
Sarah graciously accepts escort down to the girl's room, bringing along her kit. Looking over the girl, she appears to have swallowed a lemon. "Well, my girl, what is all this caterwauling about? Hm? Beau left you at the altar?"
Heal (Take 10) 10 + 8 = 18
If Priyya can Take 20 instead, she will. It will give her a chance to really observe the girl closely.

By 'you girls' I'm assuming Sarah means Ellie and her older sisters, since Lisa appears to be in her 50s and at least a few years older than Sarah.
With the captain's leave, Alton leads Sarah to Aerys' cabin. Before he lets her in he quietly warns her, "She's got a mean left hook. If you need a hand, I'll be taking my supper at the table out here."
"'Rys, coming in. Got someone here to see you..."

Yeah, I figured Sarah was an old family retainer who had seen plenty of 'girls' over the years so she views them all as a collective. FWIW - I figured that Sarah had to be older than Lisa since her cover story was as Lisa's nurse... I assume that meant infant nurse.

Spot-on about the family retainer bit. As for 'Lisa's Nurse' I meant in the sense of a caretaker. Something of a cross between the nurse you hire to look after your parents when they get older and one to look after your children. I'm assuming she would have been with the family for about 25+ years at this point, hired when Lisa was either pregnant or a new mother.
BTW, could you make a Diplomacy check?

Justin: Go ahead and add a +2 circumstance bonus to that Diplomacy check as a sort of AA bonus from Mal. EDIT: NM, I'll just factor it in. Stupid site is so damned slow today...
Alton nods to Mal appreciatively after he places the meal on the small desk in Aerys' cabin. "You have a beautiful wife, and her mother is a fine woman too. It seems you have done well for yourself, my friend. Tell me, your wardog... I hear the Malatestans bred them for battle from the stock of wolves. This is the first time I have seen one myself, she seems quite intelligent. Can she hunt also?"

Sarah thanks Devers for the warning, looks at his shiner, and tut-tuts. "Come see me later about that eye, I'll fix you up."
So is Sarah a cleric or just a healer? I'm wondering how far I can go in healing folks here.
