No sweat, I haven't been online for a few days either, just curious what the word was.

Okay, I'm having trouble finding time to reignite this game. I was meant to move into our new house a week ago, but the solicitors hadn't done their jobs. We expect we will move in late next week, but don't actually have a date yet. Everything is in boxes waiting to be moved, including my computer, and clothes other than shirt and tie for work. I'm amazed my kids are so patient with it all.

I am very keen to keep this game going again. Thank you for your patience.

Male Halfling Sorcerer 2| AC 18 T 15 FF 14 | HP 11/12 | F +2 R +4 W +4; +2 vs. Fear| Init +3 | Perc +2

Thanks for the update. It's been great so far. We'll just have to be patient. I know moving can be a pain. Especially with kids.

Trap Spotter Male Dwarf Rogue/2

Thanks for letting us know what's happening. Hope you can get things to work out well in a timely manner.

Heyo! Hope that works out for you OberonViking. Keen to keep playing when your ready mate.

Okay, so who wants to resurrect this game?

I'll be working on some new material to reignite the flame and restarting on Monday.

Trap Spotter Male Dwarf Rogue/2

Still here and still interested.

Alrighty

Still in.

I think Peony has left the pbp realm, there has been no posts from that account since mid-August. I could recruit for one more or we could continue on with three. Either way, I'd like to finish this combat first.

What should we do about Peony right now? I could GM-PC her, or one of you could play her, or some other option... what do you think?

Trap Spotter Male Dwarf Rogue/2

I'll stick with just playing Khazak. I'd say GM Pc Peony unless one of the other players wants to run her.

DING! Level up!

Time to re-evaluate.

Have you enjoyed the game?
Frankly I am very impressed that you three were still around to resurrect the game.

Do you enjoy three players? Do you want four or more?
Personally, I have found only three players to be much less of a chore than larger groups. However, I will reconsider this if you want more players. I am concerned that as we approach the holiday season we will have one or more players (or GM) need to drop out for a time, perhaps weeks and weeks on end as one after the other needs time out.

Do you enjoy the game? Is it what you expected? Is it what you want?
RPG is most fun when everybody has the same expectations of the game. I wanted to run a pretty harsh game. I had no intention of pulling punches; in fact I was annoyed that I couldn't kill Peony when it seemed that her player was no longer around. If you've ever played the Lord of the Ring Living Card Game you'll understand the harsh reality of failing solo scenarios again and again, particularly at first. That is more or less the idea I had in mind for running a LotR game; very difficult to achieve at first. I chose Kadaxin as a difficult encounter quite deliberately.

If you want to know the mechanics behind Kadaxin Shadowash:
He is from the NPC Galler (IIRC). He is as written on paper a Gnome Paladin 4. I chose to reflavour this as a goblin anti-paladin without changing any of the stats or details (other than Smite Evil became Smite Good, racial +1 against goblinoids became +1 against humanoids and ranks in Diplomacy became ranks in Ride, and I gave him a wolf mount.

Please discuss with the aim of creating a better game for all of us.

I found the encounter with Kaxidin to be somewhat disheartening. Khazak was doing everything he could and the goblin not only would not go down, he didn't even seem to have been affected that badly. Khazak also couldn't handle the level of damage it was dishing out. I was wondering what it was we were supposed to be doing that would have made any real difference. I don't like having to be saved by GM fiat.

Other than that I think that things went pretty well. That the game went into hiatus for a while and might have to do so again occasionally is the sort of thing one has to expect in PbP games.

Whether or not more characters might be needed is going to depend on what the encounters are going to be like. If there are more "Kaxidin" like encounters out there we're going to need at least two more heavy infantry fighters to stand a chance. If we're going to be dealing with more balanced scenarios then that might not be necessary.

Somehow I missed us being saved. One moment Khazak was going down, the next he was waking up with the elves. Did I miss a post where they saved us?

I have enjoyed the game very much. I especially like the chase. They are different and underused in my opinion. Once per book in an AP is about right.

Things did get a little confusing with the last fight.

I think three is ok, but I think we need a tank. A cleric, a rogue and a sorcerer going up against a martial type could get messy quickly. If you plan to expand then I would recommend only by 1 and it being some sort of martial to go toe to toe with the BBEG. I am certainly going to need to be a bit more blasty if we don't go to 4 and maybe even if we do. Color Spray didn't have much of a chance of taken down Kaxidin with his +8 will save.

As I said I am enjoying the game, especially the idea of low magic. I enjoy trying to put a mundane spin on my arcane powers.

I wouldn't say this was what I was expecting, but that is good as it's been a pleasant surprise and it's definitely what I want.

Male Human Teacher/11 | HP: 30/38 | AC: 9, T: 10, FF: 10 | CMB: 5, CMD: 4 | F: 5, R: 4, W: 9 | Init: +2 | Perc: +4

Thanks for the feedback.

One of the things I have recognised is that I am not as good as describing what is in my head as I would like to be. I have trouble getting my descriptions into a GM post.

For example, Kadaxin was meant to be a boss fight, but I don't think I made that clear. He was also meant to be an orc as another indication of a boss-fight, but I wrote goblin in my notes then transferred that mistake to the game.

The elves were coming at the end of that round regardless of how the fight went. Tobold put Kadaxin to -3 (from memory) with his final acid squirt.

In terms of balance, Kadaxin was meant to be very challenging. I chose to add the wolf-mount when there were four players so I am very glad Tobold took care of it early on. Khazak took a great chunk of Kadaxin's hit points, but with his lay-on-hands ability as a swift action when healing himself Kadaxin was always going to fight to the death - though that was not his intention. He had 36 hp, and returned 16 hp to himself through healing.

I wanted the elves to come along to save the day (whether or not you won) just as happened in the book. The elves are now an opportunity to rest a moment and reappraise what your mission is and what to do next. And to heal. The elves heal you back to full hit points.

I think I would like to stick with three players - I will need to craft encounters more carefully for the rogue, cleric, sorcerer combo that we have.

As you level up, could you also tell us all some of the highlights that level 2 means for your character. This will help the players to work to each others strengths. It will also help me as GM.

Trap Spotter Male Dwarf Rogue/2

Happy Thanksgiving everybody. :-)

HP: 15/15 | AC: 20, T: 14, FF: 17 | CMD: 12 | F: +5, R: +4, W: +7 | Init: +3 | Perc: +5 | Channel Energy: 6/6 | Bit Of Luck: 3/6 | Agile Feet: 3/6 | Crossbow Bolts: 20

Sorry for my absence. Not much for me in level two. +1 BAB and another spell per day. I improved my sense motive and perception skills

Trap Spotter Male Dwarf Rogue/2

More or less the same here. The biggest thing is getting the trap spotter talent.

Thanks for that info.
Khazak, can you add Trap Spotter with the Male Dwarf Rogue/2 so that I might remember to use it.

I apologise for my lack of posting too. I am about to start a three day game for 8 junior high school students (so is Kip) and I've buried my head into that whilst trying to finish off things needed for the end of term (I'm a high school teacher).

If you're interested I'll be starting The Curse of the Crimson Throne using Radiance RPG.

I'll be back on board, properly dedicated, by the end of the week. Feel free to continue posting either between yourselves or with the elves. Now that the term has ended I should have time for some posts. I was hoping you would provide some ideas for the direction you want the game to take.
