Karthurg "The Lurker" |

Karthurg takes another big hit. I am going to need another hit off that special stick you use after this fight. He then brings his hammer down on the next orc.
attack: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (11) + 5 = 16
damage: 2d6 + 9 ⇒ (1, 2) + 9 = 12

![]() |

We'll get you fixed right Karthurg. I could do with a shot myself.
Sofia raises her longsword again and brings it down on the head of the Orc the one to Sofia's south east
Longsword attack: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (18) + 2 = 20
Damage: 1d8 ⇒ 4
I'm pretty sure only a nat 20 is a crit, is that right?

GM MacShack |

Yeah, only nat 20s.
Round 3
Phedran
Belliken
Orcs
Karthurg
Sofia
Hank and Cammy
Karthurg nearly caves in another orc’s skull, although it seems to be alive only thanks to its bloodlust, and Sofia gravely wounds the final remaining one.
However, another orcish voice can be heard from the tunnel to the east.

Hank the Keeper |

Increased Threat Range
Sometimes your threat range is greater than 20. That is, you can score a threat on a lower number. In such cases, a roll of lower than 20 is not an automatic hit. For example:
19–20/×2: The weapon scores a threat on a natural roll of 19 or 20 (instead of just 20) and deals double damage on a critical hit.
18–20/×2: The weapon scores a threat on a natural roll of 18, 19, or 20 (instead of just 20) and deals double damage on a critical hit.
So, it's a little complicated, but since you have a longsword, you threaten a crit on a 19 or 20. Your last attack doesn't threaten. However, if you had a scimitar instead, it'd be 18-20 and you'd have threatened a crit. And then, after the threat you have to confirm by hitting the monster again.

Hank the Keeper |

"Comin' right up! I'll get ya in a second, Sofie!"
Hank draws the party's wand of Cure Light, steps forward, and applies it to Karthurg.
[ooc] Move: draw wand. 5-ft step. Standard: Cure on K. [/oox]
Cure Light Wounds: 1d8 + 1 ⇒ (7) + 1 = 8

Cammy the Camel |

Cammy gallops forward, shimmying carefully around his friends and cannily avoiding the orcs until the moment is right to lunge forward. The moment arrives.
He takes the one fighting Sofia unless it's already dead. In which case, the other one.
Power Attack Camel Bite: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (7) + 5 = 121d4 + 9 ⇒ (3) + 9 = 12

![]() |

Phedran takes aim once again, this time careful not to hit Cammy's errant hump.
Attack, longbow: 1d20 + 3 - 4 ⇒ (9) + 3 - 4 = 8 (-4 for soft cover)
Damage, piercing: 1d8 ⇒ 2

Hank the Keeper |

I know it's not quite my turn, but this shouldn't interfere too much with anything...
Hank takes a really big step for a halfling and ends up just able to stretch out and whack (erm, tap) Sofia with the communal joystick:
Cure Light Wand: 1d8 + 1 ⇒ (7) + 1 = 8
"There ya go, Sofie! Now wreck 'em!"

![]() |

Phedran shuffles past some of his teammates to get a better line of sight on a target.
Attack, longbow (eastern-most orc): 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (5) + 3 = 8
Damage, piercing: 1d8 ⇒ 7

Sofia feels wamrth coarse through her blood as the pain of her wound subsides Thanks Hank! She runs forward to the nearest Orc, seeing Cammy trying to take a mighty chomp out of his ugly green skin. Hey Cammy, maybe I can help carve him up for you?
Sofia swings her Longsword at the Orc's collarbone, trying to take his head clean off.
Attack with Longsword: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (18) + 2 = 20
Damage: 1d8 ⇒ 5
She feels a satisfying thud as steel meets bone. That's going to sting in the morning sweetie!

Karthurg "The Lurker" |

Seeing both of his enemies felled, Karthurg moves up to hit another enemy. Thanks Hank, you are good with that wand. Once he finds some enemies, he swings his large earth breaker in a wide arc attempting to hit 2 orcs at once! I will target the two to the right of the map so that Cammy and Sofia don't need to move if I drop one or two of them. Also, I believe I provoked an attack of oppertunity against the one closest to Sofia.
attack: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (12) + 5 = 17
damage: 2d6 + 9 ⇒ (3, 6) + 9 = 18
if last attack hits, attack another one: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (15) + 5 = 20
damage: 2d6 + 9 ⇒ (3, 6) + 9 = 18
Now those are some nice rolls!
Benefit: As a standard action, you can make a single attack at your full base attack bonus against a foe within reach. If you hit, you deal damage normally and can make an additional attack (using your full base attack bonus) against a foe that is adjacent to the first and also within reach. You can only make one additional attack per round with this feat. When you use this feat, you take a –2 penalty to your Armor Class until your next turn.

GM MacShack |

Attack of Opportunity: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (7) + 5 = 12
One of the orcs takes advantage of Karthurg moving past him, but his axe glances off of Karthurg's armour.
Karthurg then takes a mighty swing, and fells two orcs at once.
Sofia's blade severely wounds the remaining orc, and it seems to barely be alive.
Hank heals Sofia for 8 HP
Cammy clambers out of the water and lunges forward, and the orc crumples to the ground.

Belliken Weaver |

What a tussle friends, looks like they took a hammerin' to you there. you're doing a good job keeping the tough ones all up and at'em Hank. Belliken begins to prod over the bodies with the tip of his crossbow, looking for anything of value on the bodies.

![]() |

"I'll be damned; I can't hit anything I aim at, it seems." Phedran gives his bow a disdainful glare, then ducks his head under the bowstring to carry the weapon over his shoulder.
"I think I'd be more effective throwing rocks or, seven hells, even throwing clods of Cammy's dung would serve you better as a distraction, at least."

Hank the Keeper |

You're doing a good job keeping the tough ones all up and at'em Hank.
Hank makes a jaunty salute with the party's wand, which swishes up to his forehead like a swagger stick. "Always glad to make m'self useful, and all the better if it's keepin' you folks on yer feet. Speakin' o' which..."
Hank notices that Phedran and Karthug could both use a dose. He gets to work, scuttling from one to the other and patching them up. If we have a moment before the next fight, that is.
Cure Light Wounds for Phed: 1d8 + 1 ⇒ (5) + 1 = 6
Cure Light Wounds for Karthurg: 1d8 + 1 ⇒ (5) + 1 = 6

Sofia notices Cammy’s awe and sheathes her longsword, slapping Karthurg on the shoulder as she surveys the ruins of Orc on the cavern floor. Impressive, you must teach me some of your moves one day. A Paladin is always open to new ideas. She turns to the others taking a seat on a mouldy rock, stretching out her shoulders It’s good to be back. I’m happy to split the loot later and move on for now if everyone else is

Karthurg "The Lurker" |

Karthurge nods, The hammer is mighty. It has saved my hide many of times. I will gladly show you how to use it and how to swing in a wide arc like I did. I think that skill will translate well to your weapon. He looks at Sofia's sword.
I agree, spoils of war are to be divided up after the war has been won. There are still enemies afoot.
Ready to move on.

GM MacShack |

The next chamber contains several crates, the majority of which have been smashed open and ransacked. Across the room, two orcs stand armed. One of them bangs on the door behind him and shouts something in orcish.

Karthurg "The Lurker" |
1 person marked this as a favorite. |

Karthurg moves in to lower the distance between him and the enemies.
Wir sind ein NO-Jahr und zwei Unternehmen entweder!
We aren't the friendly kind of company either!
For anyone who speaks German, those are German words but the sentence lost all meaning because when I translate to fantasy languages, I always translate from English to Arabic because the translator is always AWFUL at that then Arabic to English then that into what ever language seems appropriate. For once, crappy translators come in handy haha Side note: Happy Valentines Day everyone!

Phedran follows behind Sofia. (Move 30')

GM MacShack |

Sofia's sling bullet flies wide of her target.
The orc closer to Karthurg steps forward and slashes at him with his axe.
Axe: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (4) + 5 = 9
However, his hasty strike is too slow to connect.
The one behind him unstraps a javelin from his back and takes aim at the nearest target, with no more luck than his companion.
Javelin vs. Karthurg: 1d20 + 1 - 4 ⇒ (8) + 1 - 4 = 5

Hank the Keeper |

Hank takes a deep breath as he sees his friends bravely heading into the passage ahead.
Can't let the tallfolk do all the fightin'. Time to use this here blade.
"Follow me when ya can, Cammy! An' bring my body back to ma if I don' make it! I love you!"
Phedran, bow at the ready, notices something squeezing past his thigh.
Sofia, sword raised, is a bit jostled in her armor.
Because Hank is double moving, drawing his scimitar as part of the move (yay level 2!), and now stands just in front of Sofia, wand in one hand, scimitar in the other. He looks ahead to the noise of Karthug's challenge, facing the darkness.

What an oddly inspiring sight, thinks Phedran.

Karthurg "The Lurker" |

Karthurg looks at the orc right in front of him in the eyes as he swings his large hammer at him.
attack: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (14) + 5 = 19
damage?: 2d6 + 9 ⇒ (5, 3) + 9 = 17
He laughs as the hammer makes its impact. I think I have rid the world of another pesky orc.

![]() |

My bad, didn't catch that this was Round 2 of combat.
Phedran pushes past his compatriots to see Karthurg engaged with an orc bandit. He calls out to the ranger. "Right behind you!"
He lets go of an arrow at the orc.
Attack, ranged (shortbow) -4 firing in to melee, +1 point-blank shot: 1d20 + 3 - 4 + 1 ⇒ (10) + 3 - 4 + 1 = 10
Damage, piercing: 1d6 ⇒ 2

Moira Keening |

Moira, focusing as well as she can on the task at hand rather than on the excitements of the fair, realizes just how awkward it is to try to find a specific sex worker in a crowded place. She’s impressed by Aishe’s upfront approach, but is unsure whether to join him, or whether that would seem weird.
Instead, she hangs out with the girls. Her appreciation of their fresh and flamboyant haircuts begins to morph into slight anxiety. Audria is just too cute with that lush blond hair and people are noticing… and Alexis looks tough but adorable. Gotta keep an eye on them… hmm, they are probably magnets for the sort of folks who would be Spindleshank’s clientele. That’s bad… but maybe useful?
“Girls, if anyone suspicious starts hitting on us, maybe… we should ask them if they’ve seen Grace Spindleshanks? It’ll feel gross, I know… but we’ll keep each other safe.”

GM MacShack |

The remaining orc narrowly avoids Phedran's attack, then draws another javelin and hurls it at Karthurg.
Javelin: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (18) + 1 = 19
Damage: 1d6 + 3 ⇒ (2) + 3 = 5
The weapon manages to catch Karthurg before he can regain his balance from his mighty swing, and pierces his armour.
